How I became a Prisoner

I'm going to tell you today how I got taken prisoner by Them.

I had know I idea you exist

Why were you hiding in the mist?

One day, while flipping channels my sister told me to stop at a random channel I had never seen before. It was called KBS World. A drama was showing where a beautiful girl was talking to her friend (I think). The language sounded alien to me but there were English subtitles underneath. The dialogues sounded mildly interesting but I forgot about it soon. Turns out my sister hadn’t. She followed the whole drama, which is apparently called Boys Over Flowers (What? Won’t the flowers get squished?) but missed the last episode. She begged me to show it to her on the internet. Being the nice and kind sister I am (sarcasm intended), I did buffer the episode and watched it with her. She informed me that the ‘pretty girl’ I had seen before was indeed a guy (that explains why he was wearing a suit and kissed the girl, I had thought they were…). My sister was also apparently in love with him and told (commanded—no she is not my older sister) me to find out all the dirts on him.

Again being the nice and kind sister I am (sarcasm intended again) I fulfilled her wish, finding out in the process an obscure (to me) realm called kpop where there are ‘idol groups’ and Prince White Charming was the leader of one such groups with a name which I had no clue how to pronounce.

I told my sister that her prince was a singer of the group ‘Sesefivezeroone’ (my ignorant self thought that was the right pronounciation). I thought I was done but how wrong I was? She demanded to see their music videos. I complied again. But this time I received the shock of our life. I watched the video and was left emotionally scarred forever (Is that guy wearing eyeliner? Like eyeliner? Like I wear? Like girls wear? He’s wearing make-up? Ear rings? Is that *cough Youngsaeng cough*even a guy? What’s with the cars? Why are they dancing?)

I had no exposure to such culture so obviously I was shocked. But at the same time, something prompted me to download the video and watch it at least once every day. I liked the song (SS 501’s Love Like This). And I started watching KBS more regularly. One day, on Kpop selection they featured Infinite. I was intrigued by their name (it was the first name I had no problem in understanding, before that I watched SS 501, TVXQ, SNSD, Shinee). I really liked the clip of Nothing’s Over and I totally loved the video and song. I also liked the members, especially Sungjong and I thought Sunggyu was one of the maknae (I was so sure Woohyun was the oldest).

I searched Infinite and found BTD. That was the turning point. I unconditionally fell in love with Infinite and they are the ones who made me a prisoner to Kpop. Later I learned to love other groups, like B.A.P, Super Junior etc. but Infinite was and is the Only One.

Infinite, sarangheyo.

I’ll be yours’ forever long.

As long as I breathe

You will be in my heart.
