So I don't know if you've noticed, I sure have, that there's a new feature on the site. (No pun intended.)

"Featured Random Story". We all know how to read, correct? (Or at least the majority of us...) Let me stress this one very vital part: Featured Random Story.

I actually clicked on a few of them... It appalls me that there are comments giving their congrats. Sure, congrats that you and your fic, out of the many, many fics, got chosen for this one day. BUT should anyone be congratulating,"Wow! It's your first fic and you're already featured!" No. No times a thousand. 

Why?

Simple. You did not get featured because you have quality work (not that normal featured fics have much quality these days. I only joke, don't kill me.) You got featured because out of all the names in the hat, you got chosen. Like a Hunger Games but all the less frightening and deathly. I cannot repeat that enough! You were lucky to get randomly featured. 

Now you see, I think there should be some restrictions on what gets randomly featured. Why should an abandoned fic, that hasn't been updated since EXO's first teaser, be getting it's fifteen minutes of fame? Sure, feature all the grammatically incorrect work you want, but at least let it be recent. (No. Don't. I'm kidding. Don't feature all the grammatically incorrect work you want. Feature something with quality.)

There ends my rant on the new installment of AFF. But since I'm on the topic, I'll talk about normal Featured Fanfiction, too.

The stuff these days....

 EX: "OPPAAAAAA. SARANGHAEYOOOOO. EXO EXO EXO. [Insert random Korean letters]"

Well... you get what I mean. But isn't just every damn story like that? I can't even look at the latest fanfictions without seeing around six EXO ones. I just tried it; I got five EXO fics. Plus, they get featured like hot cakes. (Not counting the occasional changes with different groups... or a poster shop.)

Now, I'm not saying I hate EXO. I just hate how much everyone else on here freaking loves them is all. Exo this, Exo that... Why not a BTOB fic!? (Pushing my inner Melody down...)

Anyway, I don't even know what I'm trying to say anymore. Other than... Yup, I just lost my train of thought. I'll move on then (Oh, there's more.)

Why the heck do poster shops and "fact" fiction get featured?! Those aren't even stories. Sorry, I don't want to know more about EXO planet, I want to read a good fic. Now what exactly is a good fic? Totally different topic; I want to actually stay on topic. And speaking of the topic at hand...

I actually do know why these "stories" get featured. Because people like you, yes you, the one reading this blog post right now, subscribe to them. The featuring algorithm is very, very flawed. I can't ask much of Nichi though, because Nichi is a busy man. He doesn't need to deal with my pestering. 

Oh, did I shock someone yet? That's right, karma doesn't really matter when it comes to getting featured. It's a lie so you don't pester Nichi. I'm fairly sure a good amount of people know this though. If not... sorry, your fairy tale just broke. Alternatively, this might bring up hopes for those with low karma. You just need the subscribers now. 

Subscribers are everything. If you want attention. There are some people out there who write for the fun of it, whether because they know they're bad and will never get the amount of readers they need or because they're confident and frankly don't care how many readers they get. Personally, I think being a mix  is a nice compromise. (Not really, just become a fearless badass and put your work out there for all.) 

Well... Sorry if I offended anyone and if I used your fic in a vague example, I apologize for that also. This was not meant to offend or hurt, only to express my opinion. Oh and I might seem a bit angsty and hateful.... but only because I typed this up at midnight. I'll probably come back and reread/rewrite this. Thanks for making it this far.
