"New" AsianFanFics

I do not go on Asianfanfics much anymore. There's nothing left for me. However, due to my habit of grasping onto deep set loyalties for as long as possible, I still visit every once in a while. These visits are brief and leave only a trace of my former romance.

Regardless of all of this: today I see a banner on the top of the site prompting me to switch to the new AFF. It is unsettling to say the least because change is not a thing that sits well with me, though it is a necessary evil. Changes have been happening to the site for months now. I do not embrace these changes because I have no opportunity nor need to. I do not try out new features because they do not apply to me.

An entire revamp of the website applys to me.

And probably you, too.

The most noticeable change is a switch in the color scheme from green to blue. I remember years ago when we went from black and white to green; that was quite a stir in the community. It's not an ugly color in my opinion, but neither was the green.

Afterwards, I've come to the conclusion it looks like a mobile optimized site now. This is something I would see on my phone. It's simplistic and spread out. To be honest, I do not like it that much. If I'm on a computer, why would I want it to look dumbed down to fit my phone? True, many users on platforms all over the web are more active on their phones and perhaps synchronizing mobile and desktop versions is... intuitive? Not my cup of tea.

While the flashing/scrolling sub menus are cool, they're not nearly enough to win me over.

The advertisements seem signifcantly larger but that might just be a result of everything else getting smaller and more condensed.

Additionally, it doesn't seem like many features were added but this revamp was more so for asthestics. If I'm wrong, please point that out.

Thankfully, there's a button to undo the switch if you don't like it. It's, as far as I know, on the front page and says "switch to green theme" or something vaguely like that.

So apparently, "Switch to green theme" just makes the color scheme green. (Thanks katgirl) However, if you look around enough, you can switch back by scrolling all the way down and look at the tiny links at the bottom of every page. One of them is "Old Version". That should do the trick. (Thanks, applelover8943)

Even after finding this out, I 10/10 reccomend you do not switch. Or if you like mobile looking websites, go ahead. At least there's security in knowing you can switch back.

I'd like to add in that I always use the website zoomed out at 90%. I tried going into default view and still don't find it any better with the new version of the site. If anything, I find it worse at default zoom because the overwhelming air of mobile is suffocating.

I found that you can switch to the old version with that tiny link at the bottom of the page, left hand side that says 'old version'. I thought it would've been a bit ridiculous if you weren't allowed to switch back to the old version, at least for a bit...

"Switch to green theme" only switches the color scheme of the new layout to green. As far as I know, there is no going back once you've decided to check out the new AFF -.-
