My Writing Style. What's yours?

Thought I'd fill this in!

1) What do enjoy writing most (e.g. poems, short stories) and why? Chaptered fictions because I love having the space to develop a character, although I love one shots for a moment in time so to speak :)

2) Do you listen to music whilst your write? Why/Why not? I always have music going when writing. It feels odd not to.

3) What do you think is your strongest point in terms of writing? Dialogue. I tend to create realistic characters that are relatable. I believe that comes from work on dialogue and characterisation. I've done writing workshops to improve this.

4) What do you think is your weakest point in terms of writing? Personally, remaining motivated and setting/planning a story in the beginning. I tend to get overwhelmed to write the idea that I don't stop to see if I can actually progress it further than 3-4 chapters.

5) What genre do you enjoy writing most? Romance/Drama or Romance/Comedy. I enjoy tragic one shots though lol.

6) What genre do you tend to avoid when writing? I'm not sure. I'm not interested in OTPs or unrealistic boy on boy scenes. And whilst I have done ual related pieces, I prefer stories that are realistic and well thought out, not about bonking all the time :)

7) Do you keep a notebook for writing? I used to but I tend to do everything online. I have a "to do" notebook in which I sometimes jot down ideas or things I want to write, but never often.

8) Are any of your characters remotely based on real people? Most of my characters are based on real people. I've created a few influential characters in the past five years of writing, however I prefer to draw from experiences and personalities of people I'm accustomed to. Plus I have a bad habit of writing myself into stories... >_>

9) What does your writing style say about you? How did you develop it? I've been told that I really try for a realistic approach to my writing, and that I'm very moralistic - there's always a reason to what I write. Developing my style, well I am lucky/unlucky to have a visual mind, so I see everything I think. Generally stories run through my mind like a scene in a movie and I just write it as I see it scrolling through lol. But I have dedicated my university studies to improving my stories also, I've taken courses on general writing, to writing plays, and then focussing on short stories last year. I hope to take the Writer's Masterclass next year.

10) Encouragement for younger writers? Don't be impatient. Trying to develop a scene or plot can be difficult for all writers. Don't judge yourself by other's standards. Find your own rhythm and don't be afraid to ask someone for help. Always have someone to bounce your ideas off of so you can improve the storyline. Look for avenues to fix your weaknesses, whatever they are. No one is born a writer over night, you have to work hard at it :)
