Why do you write?
Take a few minutes of your time, and ask yourself this question.
Why do I write? Why do I even bother writing such long paragraphs?
Is it because you want fame? Is it because you want to improve your writing skills? Is it because writing is your refuge from all the stress of your life? Is it because writing is your hobby? Or do you write because you simply like writing?
Now, if you really do LOVE writing, if writing really is your passion, then why are you complaning about not having subscribers? Why are you complaining about having no one comment on your story? Why are you complaning you don't have readers? It bothered me that some authors delete their stories; not knowing how amazing their plot was; because they claim to be unmotivated due to no readers.
Do you know some of the ancient painters? Some of the ancient scientists?
Back then people thought they were crazy, people bashed them, people did not like them, people paid no attention to their creation. Look at the world now. The world now worship their creation, and their creations are finally appreciated.
I honestly think it's the same with your fanfictions.
The other day, I came across this story. It had not much comments, not much subscribers, and not much views but it was a completed story with around 10 or more chapters. The story was posted around a year ago. I decided to check the foreword out, and I was indeed intrigued. I paid no heed to the fact that the story barely had readers. I read it, in one day. Now, the chapters were long, each chapters consisted of more than 2000 words. And I was not the kind of person who liked to read long chaptered stories back then. But this story was an exception. Why? Because the grammar, the writing style, the plot; everything was perfect. I may sound like I am exaggerating but it's true. The story was beautiful. Simply beautiful that it triggered my heartstrings in so many ways that I end up sobbing over a fictional story. That was the first time. And I ended up saving the story into my Microsoft Word. That was, also the first time.
I came to a conclusion that nobody read it because, the main character wasn't a really well-known idol. Nobody writes about him, and there aren't that much fics of him on this site.
And this comes to another thing that bothers me.
All of you. Okay, maybe half of you. You only read the story of your biases. You read the story because the story features your bias.
Why do you read? Tell me why do you read.
Is it because you love reading? Or is it simply because you want to read a story that features your bias?
You don't read the story, for the plot, don't you?
Plot comes in second after your bias.
Why?
I see you reading Twilight, the characters in there are fictionals. You don't even know how Edward Cullen looks like, you don't even see Edward Cullen on TV all the time. Heck, you don't even see Edward Cullen until the movie version of Twilight came out.
I also see you reading Nicholas Spark's novels. Dear John? John is a fictional character. You only knew how John looked like, through the description of the author.
Maybe it's called a FanFiction for a reason.
I don't know.
But for me, I tend to read all kinds of stories.
Why?
Because I'd feel like I'll miss a great story if I was picky.
It's the kind of feeling when the news reporter announce about a shooting star, and you wait on the roof but nothing happened. And then you're afraid if you sleep, you'll miss the shooting star.
It's the kind of feeling when you're watching Music Bank Live on TV, and you wait for your favourite artist to perform, but you're afraid to change the channel because you're afraid you'll miss the performance of your favourite artist.
I try to explore on different genres, reading different stories featuring different artists.
I do the same in everything, actually. I try listening to all kinds of bands there is in the music industry, because I'm afraid I'd miss a great song.
Because sometimes, I see author's giving up on their stories; oblivious to the fact that they had a great plot; and they deleted their stories. While I, sit here and shake my head. What a shame. If only she was strong enough, if only she was more passionate with her writing.
Some artists are underrated. Some stories are overlooked.
Why don't we give them a chance?
Maybe it's just me. But I'm just voicing out my opinion.
;)
