Personality Before Depression: Katie was an outgoing, fun girl with a great personality. She had many friends and was a fun girl to be with. She was funny, adventurous, and always happy. She was honest, but kind about it. She picked her friends carefully, though she was seen as a friend to anybody. She was willing to help anyone that needed it. She was a clown in class, which made it fun. She was a fierce competitor, who wouldn’t back down to any challenge. She was a loyal friend, willing to stand up for all her friends and support them. She was even kind to her competitors, wishing them luck and always meaning it. She was a great friend and person to be around. She would go out with her friends and have a great time and she would always smile. She loved taking pictures of her with her friends and keeping them, promising that they would stay her friends forever. Katie was the straight A, fierce gymnast, envied girl in the school. She had everything, and she was happy.

Personality During Depression: While Katie’s smile remains on her face, anyone could tell it’s not true. She doesn’t have the light in her eyes anymore. She doesn’t like to talk to people and she’s very shy. She tries to put a happy face on and speak to her friends, but it drains her energy, emotionally, and she finds herself not able to keep up with conversations. She can’t focus in school, and her grades are slipping. All she wants to do is sleep, and she finds it the time of day she looks forward to the most. She doesn’t want to go out with her friends anymore, and they soon drifted away from her (except two). She doesn’t have the same sense of humor she once had and she doesn’t have the same energy she used to. She doesn’t find gymnastics to be fun, but rather an obligation that she would rather not do. She dreads practice everyday, but she can’t say no. When she looks in the mirror, she can’t help but only see her imperfections. While she tries to keep her smile on her face and get along with everyone, she can’t keep it up for long. She doesn’t cry because if she does, she won’t be able to stop.

How did you get depression: Katie was a fantastic gymnast. She had all the moves and scored the highest scores. Every gymnast in Korea knew her name, and even gymnasts in other countries knew who she was. She was on her way to the Olympics in 2012. However, when she went to Nationals to compete, she ended up falling off the beam and hitting her head, knocking her out completely. She lost Nationals, and her only chance to compete at the Olympics, representing Korea. She was upset, but she got over it after a few weeks, using it as motivation to work harder than ever. However, her coach didn’t. He put more pressure on her, criticizing her and always reminding her about the Nationals and her mistake. Even her parents would criticize her for not working hard enough. Soon, it got to the point where she stopped fighting back and putting effort into life. She started to believe their criticism to be a part of her life and began to hate herself. Even when she would tell her coach and parents it hurt, they would criticize her even more. When her grades started slipping, her parents continued to scold her, not realizing she had depression. She feels as if everyone has turned their back on her and there is no one to turn to. Now, her parents realize her problem and try to support her and not criticize her, but her coach is too stubborn to listen. He continues to make her feel like crap. Katie doesn’t think she’s depressed, she just thinks everything her coach tells her is true.

Degree of depression: Mediocre – she isn’t doing anything dangerous to herself (though she thinks about it often) but it isn’t small either.

Personal Flaws: (This is what she thinks)
-She’s ugly
-She’s fat
-She’s a horrible gymnast
-She has no friends
-She has no life
-She can’t win anymore
-She’s stupid
-Nobody likes her

Personal Strengths: (She doesn’t think these, but they are true)
-She’s a fantastic gymnast
-She’s a great person
-Her family and two friends love her to death
-She’s strong
-She’s beautiful
-She is very smart

Background: Katie was born in New York City, New York. She is one of three children and also a twin. When Katie was ten years old, her parents had made enough money to open their own restaurant...in Korea. So, they decided to move there. In Korea, Katie was very happy. She found a great gymnastics coach (who is now an ) and became the best in the country. She was well-liked at her new school and always asked questions about life in America. Her siblings and parents support her, completely. Even at the beginning stages of her depression, Katie’s siblings were always there to comfort her.

Family Members:
[Father] Shin Daejung | 50 | Owner/Chef of restaurant | He’s a strict father with values. He’s was hard on Katie for not doing well in gymnastics (especially because he pays so much for it), but once he learned of her depression, he was much softer on her. He only wants his little girl back.
[Mother] Shin Eujin | 49 | Owner/Manager of restaurant | She’s a laid-back mother who’s very fun and kind. However, she’s easily stressed and that can cause her mood to change. Though she used to be hard on Katie, she’s also softened up. She just wants her daughter to be happy again.
[Brother] Shin Danny | 20 | University student | Though he’s away at college, he always calls Katie to make sure she’s ok. He always tells her how awesome she is and how much he misses her. When he comes back for vacations, he’s her number one fan. They get along very well.
[Twin Sister] Shin Kasey | 18 | High School Student | She’s the funniest person Katie knows and is always there to cheer her up. She knows how to have fun (like Katie used to) and is always there when Katie is feeling sad. She bad-mouths her coach and tells her she’s beautiful and talented (though Katie doesn’t see it). Kasey’s main priority is to make Katie happy again.

Counselor:
1) Eunhyuk – Super Junior
2) Taemin – SHINee
3) Thunder - MBLAQ

How he will treat you?: He is very supportive and is always positive. Though Katie pushes him away (believing that she doesn’t need any help and that she’s not depressed), he’s always by her side and there to tell her how great she is. He’s very patient and funny, trying to use jokes to make her feel better.

First impression of him: Katie’s first impression is that he’s an idol who just wants more fame to “help” her. Katie feels as if she’s a pawn in his stupid fame game. However, as time goes on, she starts to realize that he really cares about her.

Rivals: Lee Minah (OC) | 18

Story/How you became rivals: Minah is a bully to Katie. She is a gymnast as well, and she ended up taking Katie’s spot on the Olympic gymnastics team (with Katie being named the alternate). Minah is not a nice girl, always rubbing it in that Katie missed her spot on the Olympic team. Even with her verbal abuse, Katie doesn’t fight back. She believes all of it.

Have you been selected in apply fics before, how many times: I’ve been accepted in a few. I don’t know how many times (cause I’ve applied to a lot) but I have to say at least 50% of the ones I’ve applied to.

Others: Her coach’s name is Kim Myungsoo while her only two friends (the ones who have stuck by her during her depression and tried to help her) are Kim Jungshin (school friend) and Park Jihoon (gymnast friend). Jungshin is her age while Jihoon is a year younger than her.

I hope you like Katie and good luck with the story!! ^_^
