Why Does Your Summary ?

Just - WHY?

Why does it so badly?

WHY?!

I'm going to make this plain and simple: the summary is one of the most important parts of the story.

Your hook, your preview, your WHATEVER THAT IS ON THE FOREWORD. It is the first thing readers will see. I don't give a damn if you are "popular", too -- that is no valid reason for not having a legitimate summary as the first thing I see.

Why do I say this?

Because a ton of summaries I read .

For example, when the author uses the first couple of lines to introduce themselves and . Maybe these writers are popular or something, but I have no idea who the hell these writers are, so when I see the summary, I go: ... the hell? Why would I read this?

Especially when even that part has terrible grammar/spelling T.T

You know, those stories that the first thing you see is the author's annoyingly cheery greeting to the reader for her __ story along with some graphic or whatever.

Hai gaiz!! it's ______ with my one-hundredth-twenty-second story! i know i have a ton of other stories to complete, but whatevs! i hope you gaiz luv this and comment and subscribe. COOKIEZ FOR ALL.

Oh my gosh, someone just stabbed my writing heart and threw it to the dogs.

Or when the summary has a load of questions. More questions than anything else.

donghae and eunhyuk meet. what will happen? will they fall in love again? will something bad happen? will they be together in the end? find out by reading! COMMENT PLEASE.

By that time, I don't even care to know, because it probably won't be good. Because if your questions can be applied to any story out there, then it is boring. And if your summary is boring, your story is boring. And if your story is boring, I will not read it.

I also don't care if you have an awesome graphic. Your picture will last one page. I will have to suffer through your terrible writing for the rest of who-knows-how-many chapters.

But, if you have an amazing graphic and good writing/plot/grammar/everything else, kudos to you. I like you. I also like you if you just have a good summary. Or if you have good grammar, good spelling, and a decent plot.

If you don't... I probably hate your guts.

I wrote this to rant because summaries are my favorite part of the story sometimes. It's what gets readers, and it's proof that maybe, just maybe, the writer isn't an illiterate idiot if the grammar/spelling in her summary is acceptable.

I laughed so hard at this. It's so true. I have often times turned away from stories, which may in their own right be brilliant, due to a lacking or simply absent summary. Introduce your story, tell catch our attention!!

Hmm...I won't feel offended in any way with this rant of yours, because I, 100%, agree with you on everything you've said. But I still read some stories that has those descriptions you've mentioned just for the hell of it when I'm bored xDD

I agree with you. The summary is the main attention to a story, it's what brings the reader in, which sparks the interests and whatnot. *gives you two thumbs up*
