Let's Deviate

In today's context, where our life are governed by two lifeless yet ancient objects/measurement; time and money. We seem are living in a dog eats dog world, a rat race where everyday seem to be an endless battle against time where we are putting everything on the line just to earn more money for each of our desires; cars, house, better life.......

Yet, we seem to have forgotten something very important that supports the crux of the society and our lives: Compassion or Passion. These two simple yet foreign words identify how we work in this world where nobody stops for a single second to take a look around them.

These few days, I had the pleasure to venture out and stop people to complete a survey. Most of the passerby just brush passed me, not caring for a minute what I could offer to them, but some stopped and aided in filling the survey.

To those that had did my survey, I found out a very interesting fact about them: they were aware of what their surrounding provides for them. Hard to understand? It means that they were able to stop, smile and offer help to the people around them.

How?

Just to let you know, besides me, there were buskers performing on the streets, the less-fortune/disabled people who were erking out a living and teenagers/young adults handing out flyers.

These ''deviators" actually spare a moment of their busy schedule lending a helping hand not only to me but to others as well - Sparing spaces in their bags to fit another paper, giving donations to the needy, giving their support and attention to the performers...

It's actually quite a touching and rare sight to behold. I, for one, had the honour to witness such acts...of compassion. Those little acts might mean nothing to you. However, how many people actually stop to do these? Not many...Not many...

Nowadays, we consider the norm of life is to continue on moving onward, such acts are slowly disappearing. More and more are rushing to their next destinations, to earn papers that can't be brought over when one passes on. Thus, I would like to glorigy such acts before they become a thing of the past, before the world loses its passion for helping others.

In life, we always have a choice, but the final decision lies within our palms. Will we grow to be the "norms"? Where we just continue moving forward and not caring about what lies around us? Or will we deviate from our paths? To stop, look and smile; offering whatever aid we can to strangers alike.

I choose to be a "deviator", to enjoy what life has to offer, to stop, look and smile at strangers, to offer my assistance to people, to love people around me. I know that I might not live lavishingly but at least I know, when I depart this world, the marks I made will last in the lives of others and I know I have lived for selflessness and not for selfishness...
