Personality. 

growing up tsubaki was constantly praised, by her family, then her fans, then tsunku, she was always told how amazing she was so it really boosted her ego. she has no shame when it comes to acting cute because thats what she's known for. she can use it to get what she wants too. she's gotten what she wanted for so long that she doesn't know what no means. even when she was in angerme her members accomodated her more than they should. so now she just expects people to do what she wants and when they don't she's seriously taken aback and sulks because why wouldn't they? do they not like her?

tsubaki was always around people that had her back so she expects everyone to have pure intentions and want to help her. if they're in her immediate circle like her staff and members then she'd trust them automatically because she never got burned before. so for them she's an open book. even with other groups she'd trust because hello project was like one big family. she's big on loyalty so she expects them all to have her back like she'd have theirs.

she isn't very considerate to others but its not intentional because she was literally raised getting everything she wanted. sometimes she gives off kid vibes, innocent and energetic and easy to trust others. her onstage personality isn't much different from offstage. she acts cute on a regular basis and really does love skinship. she has bursts of energy and is encouraging and loud. tries to bring the mood up when its down. she is clueless about many things since she was sheltered. she wears her heart on her sleeve, if she's upset she'll sulk all day, smile during broadcasts then sulk all over again.

she's super determined in everything she does, she's good at seeing the big goal and working towards. no one can ever say she doesn't work hard. she loves what she does and doesn't mind practicing over and over and over even when she's exhausted. she knows when to stop usually but when things aren't going her way she'd overwork herself to prove them wrong. with a big ego like hers she knows she's talented and amazing but she still needs constant praise. sometimes she'd even straight up ask how she did or if she's pretty then get so happy when they say yes. when she doesn't get it she gets confused and questions herself. thats where the overworking comes in.

people might say she needs to snap back to reality but to her this is the reality. she grew up with celebrity syndrome and doesn't know anything. not everyone will like her, not everyone will kiss her , she won't get what she wants all the time and thats a hard pill she doesn't know if she's ready to swallow.

Background.

mikan was born as tachibana tsubaki in 2000. she is the baby of the family and has 3 older brothers. she was born into a family that loved music, whether it was jpop or ballads, music was always playing in her house so she too grew up loving it. her mom was a singer, she wasn't insanely famous but had a small group of dedicated fans, especially in kiso. her parents owned a cabaret and her mom performed often with other acts and open mics happening almost every night. they had a little band with her brothers playing the instruments and her mother sang, half covers and half original songs. from when she was 3 she was performing with them, singing and dancing on stage and making her family proud. she took dance lessons from when she was 3 and her mom gave her singing lessons. she was the baby of the family so they adored her and guests of the cabaret did too. 

when she was 6 a video of her performing ooki na ai de motenae by c-ute at her parents cabaret went viral in japan after an audience member uploaded it. they swooned over how cute she was and people started visiting the cabaret just to see her. soon she already had her own little fanclub with more videos being uploaded, people would ask to take pictures with her if they saw her on the street and she was only in first grade. record producer tsunku got a hold of the video and contacted tsubaki's family offering her a spot in hello pro egg that same year in 2006. of course her parents were excited, tsubaki was too. she was the youngest in hello pro egg so she was seen as the cute baby, everything she did was adorable. since she was popular she quickly got commercial advertisements and modeling jobs, even got some child acting opportunities and voice acting on top of singing and dancing training. even got the chance to perform ooki na ai de motenae with c-ute.

in 2010 she finally turned 10 and was the minimum age to join morning musume so she auditioned for their 2010 9ki auditions. she made it to the final round but not the lineup. it upset her fans but the judges had a plan for her already. if anything that was just to get her more publicity. morning musume was already the most popular hello project group but angerme was struggling popularity wise so they wanted to add tsubaki to help with that. the next year when she was added to angerme her fans were upset they put her in a failed group but they all hopped on the angerme fandom which is what the company was hoping for.

in angerme, tsubaki was the most popular member. some will say she outshined her group. the loved being in angerme, she was only 11 when she joined and the youngest member but the company thought it was worth it. she loved every minute of being in angerme, she was constantly praised and given more opportunities than the other girls. even as more members joined and they got younger, tsubaki's popularity never wavered. she still stood out for her cuteness.

in the eyes of japan and tsunku, tsubaki could do no wrong. so when it was announced that she was graduating all of a sudden everyone was confused because why would angerme's money maker leave? everyone thought she left to be a full-time actress since she was getting roles and they made more money or even a soloist. after seeing produce48 contestants do so well and yuna debut in rose she was convinced that going to korea would give her more international fame. she talked to tsunku and her members about it for a few months beforehand. kagiriaru moment / mirror mirror was her graduation single and a graduation concert was held for her. fans expected her to debut solo soon but instead she went mia for a year and a half and was suddenly announced to be debuting in a korean group.

Relationships. 

family / tachibana kentaro (1960), okeda airi (1965), tachibana daidai (1988), tachibana yuzu (1990), tachibana sudachi (1991) / parents are owners of a cabaret in kiso, her brothers have regular jobs and also in the family band / tsubaki isn't very close to her family since she was away from them for so long but she loves them and they have a wholesome relationship. they're supportive of everything she does and want her to be happy. they just cheer from a far and baby her often and go to all her performances. mostly she talks to her mom on the phone.

pandora / since she can't speak korean well its hard to get close to them unless they speak japanese. she will expected to be babied by them though. she tries to include sage since she's alone often but they aren't close because of the language barrier.

angerme / tsubaki is close to angerme, they adore her and were never on bad terms even after she left. she hopes that they all continue to have a successful career and support her as well. she still talks to them especially rikako. she's closest to her since they were both known as amazing dancers and practiced together often and choreographed too.

tsubaki got into dal media with the help of yuna who got her in contact with hyojin and was willing to scoop her up. tsubaki already knew what to expect with training because of yuna but she thought since she was more famous than yuna she'd have it easier but she was completely wrong. other than when yuna came around tsubaki was really lonely. she still kept her cute persona, people thought she was adorable yet no one knew who she was. she expected special treatment like she got when she was in hello project but instead she was treated like everyone else and she never got used to it. she really hated training but her competitive side saw it as a means to get super famous so she stayed hoping it would be worth it.
