BANG CHAN ADDED KWON MARI TO THE CHATROOM
Traits.
Positive: Protective, Accepting, Hard Worker, Kind
Neutral: Impulsive, Competitive
Negative: Stubborn, People Pleaser, Insecure
Personality.
"Not while I'm around" Mari is very protective of her friends and family. Her parents taught her to cherish the people she loves and protect those that she can. She will stand up for and fight for her friends if need be. She has always had the mindset that the people in your life are more important than the things. Protecting those she cares about is second nature and she does it without need or want of a reward for it. Even through a phone or long distance, she does her best to support and protect those she cares about.
"You're unique. What's so wrong about that?" Mari takes the world in stride and accepts people for who they are without reservation. She embraces the differences in people because she truly believes it is the strange things about a person that makes them who they are. She draws inspiration from people for her work as an architect and tries to imagine what would suit the person she is designing for. She does have a habit of being informal around people, which can make some people angry.
"I can handle it, don't worry!" Since childhood, she has always been one of those people that works hard at whatever she does. Putting her full concentration and effort into whatever task she is given, she always does her best and to the fullest of her abilities. She takes pride in her work and hopes her family and friends are proud of what she's done.
"I'm right here, no matter what" She loves to listen to people talk about themselves and their lives and offfers her ears, mind, shoulder, and advice when she notices something is upsetting her friends, family, or even that lonely person at the bus stop. Mari gives really good advice and is able to put herself into the shoes of the other person and figure out a way to help. She's listened to her friends go on rants, just to get it out of their systems, before smiling, giving them a hug, and then dragging them out into the world to cheer them up. She encourages her friends to pursue what they love, always being there to be the first to listen to a new song, see a record broken, or encourage them in their goals.
"It's the perfect day to avoid homework" Mari is the type of person who, if the situation allows it, will act on her childish impulses like running through a flock of seagulls to make them fly away. She's always been a little impulsive, especially when she was younger, always running off after school to hang out with Chan or dragging Felix with her to get ice cream. If she stayed out too late, her parents would always worry...until they called Chan's parents only to hear that, yes, Mari was at their house hanging out with Chan. When she was very young, her running off always gave her parents a fright. She tends to act before she thinks but is trying her best to learn to bite her tongue.
"You sure about that? Give me your best shot" With a taekwondo instructor for a dad and a love of academics, Mari was always in competition with something. She loves it and thinks that it helps her grow as a person; however, if she gets too much into the competition, she forgets that it isn't always fun for other people. It helped her reach the academic level she needed to get into the University of Sydney but it put a slight damper on her ability to work in a team. When she was younger, her and Chan were always in competition when it came to swimming.
"I can do it myself!" She doesn't give up on things even when they seem to be hopeless and, though may times it doesn't work, those few times that she manages to complete the task, she feels an extreme sense of pride and tends to rub it in with a snarky, off-handed comment. This stubborn attitude can sometimes cause problems with the people around her. It also takes her a long time to admit she was wrong about something.
"Of course! No problem at all!" Pairing her hard work with her competitive nature and eldest sibling complex, she is a people pleaser to the extreme. She has a hard time saying no to anything and will drain herself helping other people. She tells herself its worth it because it makes the other person happy but it causes her to burn out very easily. She is quick to say no problem, even if the thing she was asked was the biggest inconvenience.
"You're just saying that..." With her affinity for academics and gravitation to have more boy friends than girl friends, she dealt with her fair share of bullying growing up. She has the mom-friend override with her friends, siblings, and children but it doesn't work for her own mind. She only got the hang of make-up when she entered the professional world. She has a very difficult time taking compliments or praise because she doesn't believe she deserves them. In the same way, she finds it hard to believe that someone would fall in love with her.
Background.
Her parents met when they were both students at the Unvirsity of Sydney. Woobin was studying sports therapy and Hawon was studying interior design. They ended up at the same swimming club and hit it off almost immediately. Hawon would roll her eyes at Woobin's childish nature and boyish flirting but she loved every minute of it. After school, the two of them quickly got married and settled down in Sydney before having Mari. When Mari was four, Chaerin was born. The four of them were very close and would often go on day trips together if work allowed.
Mari took after her mother, at least that's what her father said to her mother's chiding, in her studies. Woobin was always proud that his wife was smarter than he was. Though she took after her mother, she was always her dad's little girl. She would follow him to his gym to practice taekwondo when she was little and he took her to the swimming club every day in the summer. She met Bang Chan at the swimming club when she was six. [See Love Story for more info]
When she entered high school, she focused more on her studies and taekwondo than swimming as she found it hard to enjoy it as much without her swimming partner. She would go with her father when he travelled to competitions to help with equipment. She met Felix when she was sixteen and he was 12 at one of these competitions. They became fast friends, much to his annoyance, and she hung out with him and his older sister all the time until she went off to school at the University of Sydney for architecture as she enjoyed the math mixed with design.
Graduating in 2019, she accepted a position at Gansam's Seoul office and moved there almost immediately after graduation. She lives in a condo that overlooks the river near her work.

Relationships.
Dad / Kwon Woobin [Gong Yoo] / 48 / Taekwondo Instructor / Childish, Doting, Stubborn / Mari is a daddy's girl and he loves to dote on her and her sister. The two of them get along usually but sometimes heads when he acts too childish and she gets annoyed with him. He taught her Taekwondo and, even though she wasn't great at it, that was how she met Felix.
Mom / Kim Hawon [Jun Jihyun] / 47 / Interior Designer / Creative, Hard Worker, Gentle / Mari and her mother get along as well as most elder daughters and mothers do. They are very similar in their career paths and the way they approach problems, leading them to gang up on her father a lot which just makes him smile. They keep in touch regarding current trends in design and architecture.
Little Sister / Chelsea Kwon Chaerin [Tzuyu: Twice] / 22 / Student - Education / Prankster, Caring, Outgoing / When they were younger, Chaerin followed Mari around everywhere and would always imitate her to the point that Mari would get annoyed. Once they got older, Chaerin became more outgoing than her elder sister, though she still loved to play pranks on her.
Little Joey / Lee Felix / 22 / Idol - Stray Kids / Awkward, Middle-Child Syndrome, Athletic / Mari and Felix met during a Taekwondo tournament in Sydney during the down time between matches. She had gone with her father to help with the equipment. She started talking to him when they met in a hallway and they realized they lived pretty close and had a lot of similar interests. Over the years, they got closer and her, Felix and his older sister would hang out together which consisted of his sister dragging him out to get food with them. She was in university when Felix left for Korea. They keep in touch with texts or calls maybe once a week.
[lil bro] Chris beat me at Uno yesterday. I had to draw 12 cards at once!
[mari] when did they add draw 12 cards?
[lil bro] nah not one card he kept adding onto my draw two and draw four until I ran out of cards to play
[mari] I'm pretty sure that's against the rules...
[lil bro] ...
[lil bro] I'll call you later, I have to go beat up hyung
[mari] don't hurt him too bad
[mari] felix...?
[mari] I shouldn't have told you that
That Psycho Shiela / Ki Hwiae [Heejin: Loona] / 23 / Stewardess / Optimistic, Dramatic / She doesn't know Hwiae well at first, just general information that Bang Chan and Felix know about her from Han. Once they started chatting in the chatroom, Mari found it hilarioius how much Hwiae enjoyed horror movies. Being someone who can't watch a horror movie alone and never in the dark, she frequently tells her how brave she is. Mari also enjoys asking her about all the places she has gone to with her stewardess job.
[mari] Where have you been recently?
[mari] Did you see any cool buildings while you were travelling?
[mari] Having a bad day at work, could use a shot of your optimism if you've got the time.
[mari] I know you've been travelling a lot recently so make sure you eat and get proper rest. We'll find time to grab bubble tea when you get home.
Odd Sunbae / Lee Kibum [Chansung: 2PM] / 28 / Architect / Flirty, Intelligent, Protective / Kibum had been working at her architecture firm for a few years before she started. After about six months, he started to flirt with her and ask her out after work. Mari always brushed him off and, though he would teasingly keep asking her out, he gave up after he noticed a shift in her attitude a few months after the COVID protocols hit Korea. He tends to shield her at work from inappropriate comments and looks from the older men at their office and clients. He originally put his name in her phone as "Kibum :)" but when she deleted it he changed it to "Kibum <3" and when she deleted it again he changed it to "Oppa <3". She hasn't changed it as she is afraid of what he might change it to again.
WishIWasAzn - Ash - 7/8.
Comments/questions. I hope you like her! I know in the guidelines you say you like simple but once i get started on a character I have a hard time reigning it in. I also hope you like their love story, I had a lot of fun writing it. I promise this is relatively short compared to my normal applications hahahaha looking forward to hearing your feedback on her!
Suggestions. Any kind of pranking the boys; playful arguing about which of the boys did the best in the newest music video; ganging up on the boys in their lives; chatting about places to travel; meeting up to get bubble tea or coffee; MOVIE NIGHTS THAT THE BOYS ARE JEALOUS OF
