birthname. Song Mari
nicknames.

Appa + Because of her style and fiercely protective personality, many trainees she has worked with and her groupmates have given her the nickname of "Appa". Some fans call her this as well but it is mostly her nickname among those she works with.
Oppa/Hyung + Younger trainees used to mistake her for a boy and accidentally call her oppa or hyung. At first, she was a little confused and it caught her off-guard, but now she responds more to oppa/hyung than she does to unnie/noona, unless it is a voice she recognizes.
Prince Charming + Originally, this name was a teasing nickname one of her best friends from her hometown would call her. Once she debuted and her love of Disney came out, her bandmates and fans began to call her Prince Charming as well.
Navi + She loves playing video games (especially Legend of Zelda), so when she is being too annoying or pushy, her bandmates call her Navi (the annoying fairy from OoT)

birthdate. July 20, 1992
birthplAce. Tongyeong, South Korea
hometown. Tongyeong, South Korea
ethnicity. Korean
language(s).

Korean + 100% | Born and raised in South Korea; she has the Gyeongsang dialect due to the region she was born in
English + 100% | With school lessons, helping at the local record shop, watching foreign films and her father teaching her a little, she is fluent in English. However, she does have a definite accent when she speaks.
Japanese + 100% |  Living so far to the south, her home was near Tsushima and Fukuoka, Japan. Many of the people in her hometown spoke the language and when she was old enough, she would travel to Tsushim by herself once every few months with her friends. Plus she loves watching anime and Japanese romance dramas.
German + 71% | She decided to learn the language to set her more apart from the other trainees once she moved from Stardom. After 5 years, she still messes up a lot so she only considers herself conversational at best. She can sing fairly well in German but still finds it difficult to hold a fullblown conversation at times.

— Mari isn't generally noted as a typical beauty. She usually sports very short, boyish cut hair or hair that falls just above her shoulders, she opted for the longer of the two cuts when she got closer to the end of her trainee days. She isn't averse to growing it out, she just always felt short hair was easier to deal with. Her hair also has a habit of changing colors frequently, depending on what she is feeling or the competition she is having with a friend. Her natural hair color is dark brown but currently it is blue ombre. Her complexion is slightly more tan than most girls because she grew up by the ocean and spent most of her time outside. The palest she has ever been was after she moved to Seoul to become a trainee because she was inside more than normal. Her face is very boyish, sharp jawline, dark brown eyes, and full lips that are always set in a smirk. She hardly ever goes anywhere without a hat (she prefers flatbrims and beanies) or a necklace that her siblings got for her when she went to Seoul. Her body figure is that of a bboy only less defined, bascially she is more muscular than a girl dancer but it comes from playing sports. Her legs are longer than her torso, which makes her look taller than she actually is, and she has wide shoulders. Her fingers are long and thin with small calluses from playing guitar and she always keeps her nails cut short.

Mari also has a few "body modifications". She has two piercings on her right ear that she got when she moved to Seoul, as she didn't really wear earrings before then [further described in love interest section] and she has a nose stud. Mari also has two tattoos: the Olympic rings with the phrase "Citius, Altius, Fortius" across them on her left shoulderblade (a tip off to her family as well as her own aspirations) and a small infinity symbol connected by the word young just behind her left ear. She is also planning to get a small lion tattoo right above her heart in the near future.

stYle.

— Mari isn't one to keep up with fashion, girl's fashion at least. She prefers boy's clothes for their comfort and utility but also because she has horrible clothing coordination sense. She is extremely thankful to have someone that picks her outfits for performances and her groupmates that help her pick out outfits that aren't as boyish. Her style is mostly tomboy with some surfer and themed clothing thrown in, but she definitely cleans up well when it comes to formal occasions. When she does themed clothing, they are usually based on a favorite video game or Disney characters (a lot of things you can find on pinterest). When she wears darker clothes, she accents it with a lot of bright colors, specifically neon greans and blues. Combat boots, Nike tennis shoes, and beach sandals are the only footwear that she owned before moving to Seoul and they are still her go to. When she doesn't have to look too nice for the public, she defaults to jeans, t-shirts, hoodies, and cargo shorts. She uncharacteristically has a lot of jewelry she enjoys wearing and, as stated earlier, she never goes anywhere without her necklace and is almost always seen with a hat. She is not big on make up, mainly because she didn't really grow up wearing it and it looked weird with her tan complexion when she tried wearing it.

As for dorms and practice attire, she wears sweatpants and t-shirts or tanktops. Her hair, when long enough, is pulled back in a small ponytail and a headband keeps her bangs and stray hair out of her face and eyes. She enjoys wearing patterned socks with her favorite band logos and animated characters. Her practice tank tops are usually ripped t-shirts that have dark Disney themes or are just paraphernalia that she has gotten online. She wears no jewelry except for her necklace and sometimes a very precious ring her father gave her, part of a set. At airports, she cleans up a little more so she won't be called out for it, usually defaulting to her Link from LoZ inspired outfits.

elaboration.

"I've got your back." Mari is extremely protective of the friends that she has made throughout her life. Her parents taught her to cherish the people she loves and she shows that by protecting them. She will stand up for and fight for her friends if need be, even if it puts her image and career in jeopardy. She has always had the mindset that the people in your life are more important than the things. This protective nature started around the time when JoongKi was being bullied and it carried over into all of her relationships. She also tends to be protective of children and animals more than most. If she sees kids being bullied or people picking on homeless animals, she will step in and stand up form them without need or want of a reward for it.

"Believe me, I've seen much weirder things." Growing up in a small town with a best friend whose family owned a record shop and where she got hit on by girls for looking like a boy, she has always been a bit off. Her family was pretty well known in the town because of her parents' occupations. She takes the world in stride and accepts even the strangest of things as something normal and useful to the world. If someone's strange tick or habit comes out while they are with her, she'll brush it off and smile. She embraces the differences in people because she truly believes it is the strange things about a person that makes them who they are. She does tend to be a bit informal around people because of this which can make some people angry.

"I can handle it, don't worry!" Mari has always been one of those people that works hard at whatever she does. Putting her full concentration and effort into whatever task she is given, she always does her best and to the fullest of her abilities. She can get lost in a trance when she is working on her vocals or her rapping or trying to get a dance down and it takes some time for peope to get through to her when she is in "work" mode. She wants to be the best of the best so that her parents and siblings will be proud of her and so she can prove to herself that everything she has gone through and the sacrifices she had to make to get to where she is were worth it.

"I'm #EXPOSED's Main Vocalist -winks at camera and smirks-" [ON-CAMERA PERSONA ONLY] Mari plays the role of the confident wide range main vocalist of #EXPOSED with grace and ease. She loves to play up the fans and the camera with her boyish looks and her crazy vocal range. She owns the stage with as much charisma as a veteran main vocalist and she uses it to her advantage. It's like a switch she can flip on and off when she goes on the stage. Her offstage persona has just as much outgoing attitude but lacks the fierceness she portrays onstage. It's much more of a happy pride that she exudes offstage than the arrogance that she portrays onstage. She's the one that takes all the group pictures and forces her way to the front with her crooked hat and signature smirk. She also is known as the one that feeds off the fans the most.

"I'm always here if you need me." While her participation in the world can be a bit limited, her observation skills are better than most. She loves to listen to people talk about themselves and their lives and does tend to eavesdrop on peope's conversations without meaning to. She is an exceptional listener and offers her ears, mind, shoulder, and advice when she notices something is upsetting her friends or groupmates or even that lonely guy at the bus stop. Mari gives really good advice, even if she hasn't experienced what the other person is going through. She is able to put herself in their shoes and figure out a way to help them. However, she isn't too fond of ranting unless there is a clear reason behind it and it is leading to a situation where they need advice.

"You can do it, I know you can." Growing up with an Olympic Trainer for a father, Mari and her siblings were always challenged to do their best and that is something she brought with her to Seoul. Whenever she sees someone that is struggling or seems to want to give up, she challenges them and helps support them to get them back on their feet and find why they love to do what they do again. She can get a little pushy, especially when she was a trainee and didn't understand why some of the other trainees would complain about the work they were given. She does have quite a bit more stamina than most people who haven't been doing things all their life but she still expects people to give it their all.

"The ocean was calling me...I had to go." From impulse buying to running through a flock of pigeons to make them fly away, Mari has always been an impulsive person. It isn't really a good thing or a bad thing because she is mainly under control but it can come out at odd times, especially in her early days as a trainee and right after her debut. She was more impulsive when she was younger, escaping to go surfing or to hang out with HyungJin and her parents would freak out trying to find her. Over time, they understood that she would always come back but when she was very young, just as the twins were being born, it gave them quite a fright. She is a person who usually acts before she thinks and she's trying her best to work on it.

"To be perfectly honest..." Mari grew up in a family where everyone was always honest to a fault, which made her become a rather blunt person. This can be good and bad. She is honest about everything but will tell some white lies when she picks up on cues that it would be better to do that. She is very upfront about the advice she gives and isn't afraid to tell someone something that might hurt their feelings, especially if she knows that it is better for them to know this than to learn about it later. Despite the fact that she is blunt, she is completely oblivious about her own feelings, espcially when it comes to falling in love with someone. She tries to brush everything off and the only way to get it through her head is to be blunt with her.

"We are going to be the best of the best, I just know it!" Usually being optimistic is a positive trait, and for Mari, being optimistic is great. However, her optimism can have its points of annoyance, especially because she is a morning person. She has a naturally loud voice and she embarrasses her groupmates when they do any sort of competition by cheering for them loud enough that they have to take her microphone away. Her optimism spun from her excitement of finally being in the career she always wanted and it helped her keep her head up when she was switching companies, when her original group fell through, and dealing with everything that came in between.

"You think you can take me? Give it your best shot." With a trainer for a dad and a speed skater for a little brother, Mari was always in the center of competition. She loves it and thinks that it helps her grow as a person. However, she can get a little too much into the competition to the point where it isn't fun for people anymore without knowing or realizing. She becomes completely focused on the task at hand and loses sight of the world around her. It has helped her get better as a vocalist and as a rapper and she has won a few video game and surfing competitions with it but it puts a slight damper on her ability to work in a team.

"Uh...sorry I missed that..." Seemingly contradictory to her hard working nature, Mari can be a rather big airhead. She tends to get lost in her thoughts when she is going through some personal issues that she isn't sure how to bring up in conversation. When she comes back to the real world, she has usually missed something very important and ends up asking stupid questions to get brought back up to speed. Variety shows love that about her because she can always be good for a laugh. She can also be rather childish and teasing at inappropriate times and enjoys letting her crazy side loose, but it usually is at the wrong time and makes the people around her irritated or mad.

"I can do it myself!" She doesn't give up on things even when they seem to be hopeless and, though many times it doesn't work, those few times that she manages to complete the task, she feels an extreme sense of pride and tends to rub it in other people's faces (though not extreme, more like a snarky, off-handed comment). When she became a trainee, people told her that she wouldn't go anywhere because she was just "some small town girl with her feet stuck in the ocean". This stubborn attitude can sometimes cause a problem when it comes to practice. On the one hand, she is a hard worker but when she can't fully grasp something, she will work until she has exhausted herself and even then she'll say she isn't tired.

"Would you just shut up for like a second?" Admittedly, it takes awhile for Mari to get to this point of anger but, once she snaps, everyone should watch out. She speaks harshly and tends to lash out when she is in such a state. It usually comes from being stressed out and someone says something at the wrong time or she is at the peak of frustration and someone asks her what is wrong. It takes her awhile to calm down, though it can take less time if she has her favorite candy and puts on some music or a Disney movie. Having her favorite person around also helps a lot -cough- Leo -cough-. If it gets too bad, she'll sneak away and go to the batting cage. There was one point in time she even called HyungJin to tell him she was coming hom and he managed to talk her out of it. She can sometimes have a foul mouth when she gets really angry but that is rare.

"-eyes you up and down with a raised eyebrow- Uh huh..." Growing up with a mischievious little sister plus a close knit family, Mari has learned to be wary of a lot of things. She has become so skeptical because of pranks her younger sister used to pull on her, she has difficulty trusting anyone completely. She always checks everything to make sure no pranks have been pulled and this can take the fun out of plans or surprises that people try to do for her. She doesn't mean to be so skeptical of things but it was how she grew up and how she came out on top once her younger sister got smart enough to plan detailed pranks.

"You're just saying that..." With her boyish features, optimistic attitude, and general demeanor, she dealt with a lot of bullying growing up and when she first became a trainee. She has the mom-friend override with her friends, siblings, and children, but it doesn't work for herself. These were the times where she tried to use make-up but couldn't figure it out with her skin complexion, same with her fashion sense. Now, she has a very difficult time taking compliments or praise because she doesn't believe she deserves them.

background.

Mari's mother and father met in downtown Seoul. Her father was a newbie in the training world and was there to meet his mentor and to check out some speed skating prospects for the next Olympics. Her mother was on her way to her last performance in her university career, already lined up to join the Busan Philharmonic Orchestra when she graduated. The two of them ran into each other, literally. Sheet music and notes went everywhere and mixed together. It was love at first sight. The two lived in Busan for awhile before HyunJoon proposed, both marriage and a move to Tongyeong, his hometown. Though it was a change for Shinhye, she accepted without delay and was excited to become a music teacher at the local middle school. They were married and a year later, Mari was born.

Since she was a child, Mari had always been outgoing and loved living by the ocean. Whenever her father wasn't training, he would take her to play in the water. When Mari turned 5, the Song family was blessed with not one more child but two. Her twin siblings were born and became the light in everyone's life. When they were old enough to walk, they folowed Mari around everywhere. She began singing in order to get them to go to sleep when her parents couldn't do anything about their crying. She also started to learn to play acoustic guitar so she wouldn't wear out her voice. Her mother noticed her talent for music and decided to help Mari learn to hone her vocal skills. It was around this time that Mari met HyungJin and they became friends.

As she grew older, she came into her own style of song and began to get into rap because she enjoyed the rhythms. By the time she was in middle school, she was the talk of the town, and not just because of her skill in surfing. She was constantly asked to do small performances at the record store (to which HyungJin would playfully get annoyed at her for) or to enter the school talent shows. To get away from everyone asking her to perform, she would take her siblings out to the ocean and they would swim and surf together. Her siblings were the ones to tell her that she should try and make her musical ability a career, or become a professional surfer (which resulted in them being thrown into the water). She began to think about it seriously but wasn't quite sure how to bring it up in a way that would make her seem confident.

She changed her style when she entered high school for the ease of taking care of herself as well as her thinking it matched her image better. Her parents were a bit against it at first (her mother complained that she cut off her beauitful hair) but eventually they grew to be okay with it. When she explained that this was her wanting to be her own person, they understood. This began to let her open up about the possibility of going to Seoul to audition for an entertainment company. This change of look also began the teasings and flirtings at school, girls mistaking her for a boy caused her a lot of drama in high school.

Her siblings began to become more interested in things once talks of Mari joining an entertainment company started. Shiwan became more interested in piano and her mother would teach her at home. JoongKi became interested in speed skating and her father gladly took him to his training facility and began training him to one day compete in the Olympics. Mari was mainly left alone to study and practice for her future audtion that she kept psyching herself up about. Her parents were pulled back into work and so she became in charge of picking up her two younger siblings from school. This was where she started to notice that JoongKi was being teased and stood up for him against the bullies. She continued to pick them up until she reached her senior year of high school. Her classmates would laugh at her when they found out that her two options for a future career were an idol or a professional surfer.

When she was finally starting to get serious about auditioning, she found that there was an audition for Stardom Entertainment that was starting soon. This made her become curious about what she could do with the rest of her life, given a realtively new company. What if she could make this passion she had for music and performing into a career like she had always dreamed of? That night, she spoke to her parents about it and they were surprised, but very supportive (though her mother started to complain that she wasn't ready to go off on her own). They were happy because it was the first time she had truly decided something for herself. Her little siblings, on the other hand, were a bit less happy when she decided to do it because they loved her too much and didn't want to let her go to a place where they wouldn't see her. As a compromise, the family went to Seoul to support her during her audition. Her parents loved being able to show their kids where they met.

With the support of her family and despite her younger siblings' protests, she auditioned for Brand New Stardom at the age of 18 with vocals and some rapping. They were amazed with her vocal range and control that she had without any formal training as well as her lyrical ability and rhythm. She was accepted as a trainee and when she told her family, all five of them were the focal point of a lot of glares for how excited they were. At first, she was a bit homesick and would video call her family whenever she had free time, her siblings trying to convince her to come back home. Once she became used to the schedules (and met Zico and the rest of the trainees that would become Block B), the calls became less frequent though she still tried to do it at least once every few weeks.

father > : Song HyunJoon (Gong Yoo) / 50 / Olympic Trainer / Outgoing, supportive, stubborn, kind / 5 out of 5
Mari is a bit of a daddy's girl and he loves to dote on her whenever he gets the chance. They sometimes get into big arguments because of their similar personalities but he believes in her abilities more than almost anyone and supports her decisions, even if he doesn't know the first thing about music. He, of course, worried when she chose to become a trainee but he knew that she was strong enough and talented enough to make it, even if it took her away from home.

mother > : Kwon ShinHye (Choi JiWoo) / 51 / Cellist/Composer, Music Teacher / Overprotective, sweet, tempermental, forgiving / 4 out of 5
The two of them are not as close as Mari and her father but they do get along really well, especially since Mari inherited her musicality (something she will forever remind HyunJoon). Being her mother's first child, ShinHye does put quite a bit of pressure on Mari to be a good older sibling but not so much that Mari can't handle it. She hopes that her daughter will let music guide her in her career and never get to the point where she feels like she can't take the reins in her life.

younger sister > : Song Shiwan (Jang ChomMi) / 21 / Pianist, Composer / Quiet, stubborn, creative, mischevious / 4.5 out of 5
Shiwan loves to bother her older sister about her tomboyish looks but she really looks up to Mari and admires her musical ability [though Mari swears Shiwan has surpassed her already]. The reason Shiwan started playing piano was because Mari would sing and play a little bit of guitar when she was younger to help her and her brother fall asleep. Shiwan is quiet around everyone but her family and close friends and loves to remind JoongKi that she was born first. Shiwan studies piano at Baekseok University and hopes to perform with Mari someday.

younger brother > : Song JoongKi (Christian Yu) / 21 / Olympic Speed Skater / Happy, loyal, perservering, airhead / 5 out of 5
JoongKi adores his eldest sister and is jealous of Shiwan because, like his father, he has no musical ability. Mari used to protect him from bullies before she became a trainee and so he really looks up to her and is proud to be her younger brother. He bragged about her being a trainee a lot when he was in school. He started training with his dad when he was in middle school to try and toughen himself up. JoongKi studies at Korea National Sport University and hopes to become an athletic trainer like his father after he retires from skating.

The Derp Brigade > : Woo Jiho || Zico / 26 / Leader, Block B; Solo Artist / Derp, protective, strong, complete dork / 5 out of 5
The two of them met as trainees under Stardom Entertainment the year before Block B debuted. They ran into each other in the hallway of the company and instead of apologizing immediately, they both made derp faces at one another and started laughing. The two of them trust each other completely, being a huge form of support in the entertainment world, and Mari looks at him like a brother. Zico knows and understands about how homesick she gets and, when his schedules are free, he does his best to come and visit her. They don't see each other in person often, settling for skype and phone cals, but when they are together, no one can pull them apart. They are often seen being derps together on Instagram.

Pterodactyl Gamers > : Lee JaeHwan || Ken / 26 / Main Vocalist, VIXX / Hyperactive, pouty, childish, sore loser / 4 out of 5
Ken and Mari met when she was asked to be the girl in their Hyde music video. She thought he was really talented both in his singing and his ability to have such a strong presence in front of the camera when in real life he was a huge dork. The two of them bonded over vocal lessons, video games, and challenging each other to high note sing offs. The two of them enjoy teasing each other and bothering the other members of VIXX. He treats her like he would a younger sister even though he is only a few months older than her.

Sarcastic Little s > : Han SangHyuk / 23 / Main Dancer, VIXX / Troublemaker, show-off, acts older than he is / 4.5 out of 5
Another name for the two of them would be VIXX's worst nightmare. They, like her and Ken, met on the set of Hyde and bonded very quicky over stupid little pranks. The pranks turns into teasing the members and the two of them became really fast friends. Hyuk was really the person that brought her into the group and she treats him like a little brother, especially since he reminds her of her own little siblings. They call each other out when they are being stupid about things and are very blunt with each other. He helped her and Leo get together, at least he enjoys saying that he did. The two of them often film each other acting like idiots and he teases her by picking up and carrying Leo around.

Prince & Princess > : Cha HyungJin (Kim JaeWook) / 28 / Record Store Owner / Passionate, idiot, flirt, lazy / 5 out of 5
Mari grew up with HyungJin in Tongyeong. He was the older kid that she annoyed by following him around. He inherited a record store from his father, the place where the two of them met. Their completely different personalities cause a lot of arguments between them but every one of those arguments ended up with the two of them blasting music in the shop and dancing around like idiots. His favorite song to play when she was having a bad day was We Like 2 Party by Big Bang [taking a little bit of liberty with the release date of this song because it's so them it's not even funny]. When they were in school together, they would use each other to get rid of unwanted flirtations, more Mari using him to stop girls from hitting on her. She calls him her "princess" and, though at first he was annoyed with the nickname, it grew on him. He eventually started calling her Prince Charming. HyungJin always sticks up for her when they hang out. Once she became a trainee, they didn't see each other as often but when she visits, they usually end up going to the record shop and she helps him out while the rest of the time they are acting like idiots and when he visits her in Seoul, they end up going to the recording studio so he can critique her rapping, singing, and dancing, usually getting irritated with her dancing and helping to fix it. He also would close the record shop down for a few days and come and see her when she was in one of her moods and he would drag her to an empty training room and blast We Like 2 Party and it was a sure thing to make her feel better. He is currently serving his 2 years in the military.

Cuddle Buddies > : Song Lene (Bae Woohee) / Groupmate / Cheerful, clever, kind, aggressive / 3-4 out of 5
Mari never expected to get along with Lene but as they interacted and got to know each other better, they found they had more in common than they initially realized. The two of them speak in german together, keeping each other accountable for the language, and Lene helps her with her dancing. The major point of their relationship is that Lene frequently uses Mari's bed instead of her own, claiming that she is the best cuddler in the group. Leo wasn't the happiest when he found out but Mari found his jealousy adorable and Lene made sure to be overly touchy with Mari whenever Leo was around. The fans eat up their interactions.

Umma & Appa > : Kang Naeun (Soyeon) / Groupmate / Smart, goofy fiesty, loving / 3-4 out of 5
Naeun and Mari met as trainees at Jellyfish and Naeun was one of the first girl trainees Mari got along with. The two of them have similar personalities to a point but where Mari is a spitfire and will fight people when her friends are hurt, Naeun is the calmer side trying to go with peaceful tactics. The two of them are tomboys but where Mari has more boyish features, Naeun is more girlish. They tend to argue like an old married couple by Mari considers her one of her best girl friends. Mari enjoys getting fake jealous/angry whenever it is brought up that Naeun is Leo biased for VIXX but it's always in a teasing way.

Fire & Ice > : Breena Fayette Riverend (Lim Bora) / Groupmate / Observant, kind, humble, spontaneous / 4 out of 5
Mari met Fae once she moved to Predisposed. The two of them took vocal lessons together and, once they got more comfortable with each other, began harmonizing and doing covers together. Mari eventually asked Fae to help her out with her dancing skills so that she wouldn't slow the group down. During this time is when she met Lainey and she fell in love with the little girl. She waited a little longer to interact with her until Fae was comfortable with her around Lainey but since then, she loves that little girl like she was her niece and she is always willing to help out if something happens. Despite the nickname that the other trainees gave the two of them, their personalities are actually very similar and they get along very well.

Dashed Dreams > : Elemental (Kara) / Former Almost Group / Manipulative, closed off, harsh / 0 out of 5
This was the group that Mari was supposed to be a part of when she was scouted into Jellyfish. She was brought into a group of four girls who had already been rehearsing for a year or two together and was told that she would be debuting with them. The girls gave her the cold shoulder almost immediately and never interacted with her other than to critisize her skills. The bullying got worse when she was chosen to be the girl in Hyde, saying that she was getting special treatment because she was the new girl. And then it happened: about a month before they were supposed to debut, it got leaked that some of the girls had been sleeping with some higher ups in press to get better debut stories and that they had been lipsyncing to some of their songs. Jellyfish immediately scrapped the band and let the original girls go as trainees, only keeping Mari in the company.

2010-2013 Stardom Entertainment Years: Coming into Stardom, she was pretty well rounded with her strengths being in singing and rapping. She was a bit on the clumy side when it came to dancing so she was happy that her singing and rapping were good enough for her to be accepted. The company put her focus in vocals and she was happy with that as her and HyungJin used to sing together all the time and she would do the harmony and higher vocal parts. She did want to improve on her other skills as wel, however. After meeting Zico, he helped her to further improve her rap skills and helped her work on speed rapping, though she could never be on par with him. She also met P.O. and the three of them worked on vocals together, which made her lower ranges sound a lot like the two of them. Once Block B debuted, she still focused on getting her skills up to their level but she started to notice a bit of animosity towards her from the other trainees. Partly because of the fact that her and Zico were so close and partly because of her general sort of happy-go-lucky perservering attitude when it came to music, she had a bit of a target on her back. She did her best to ignore it an continued being friends with the members of Block B. She was even brought into their practice sessions sometimes when they needed to relax and they made her play acoustic guitar and ballad versions of some of their more popular songs. Then, in 2013, everything went to hell. Block B filed to have their contract nullified, the CEO committed suicide, and the courts ruled in favor of the company against Block B. Mari lost her respect for the company though would always be thankful for the opportunity they gave her. As Block B negotiated their transfer to Seven Seasons, she was talking to Jellyfish who were close to debuting a new girl group and were asking her to come on board. She decided to take up the offer to get away from the company that hurt her first friends in the industry as well as the barrier of animosity she felt was blocking her from being the best she could be.

giphy.gifSandra-Bullock-GIFs-sandra-bullock-23241 tumblr_mcqbqe1BWl1rimpp2o1_500.gif

2013-2017 Jellyfish Entertainment Years: She was brought in to the company in hopes to be part of their new girl group Elemental. The animosity she tried to get away from at Stardom was back in full force with this group of girls. They only talked to her to critisize her or bully her. The company asked her to be in VIXX's Hyde music video to try and separate them a bit and to get her some exposure. She worked her hardest to try and show her skills and further improve before the debut but in the end, the company scrapped the group due to scandals caused by the other trainees and let them go. Though she was heartbroken her debut was once again delayed, she was happy that she wouldn't have to be in a group where the girls didn't like her at all. She put her heart into the production of Hyde to make it the best music video she could. She met all of the members and found them to be very easy going and almost like a bunch of kids. She got along well with all of the guys except Leo...who was extremely shy and quiet when she first met him. After that music video, she began playing pranks on the rest of the boys with Hyuk. He became like another little brother to her and she was slowly brought into the group. She also met Naeun during this time. As with Block B, VIXX used her acoustic guitar skills to help them relax or mess around. She practiced her vocals with Ken and eventually Leo joined them. As she worked on her lower range at Stardom, she worked on her higher range with Leo and Ken, her vocals becoming clearer as she practiced. Being a girl, however, she was able to hit much higher notes than Leo and Ken, though Ken's and Hyuk's pterodactyl screeching put up a good fight. As she grew closer to the group, her and Leo became especially close, a bit to her surprise at first. [See Romance History] After a few years into her training at Jellyfish, her and Leo had become a strong, yet secret, couple. The only people that knew about the two of them were the rest of the VIXX members, and believe me, it was difficult to keep some of them quiet about it. After Gugudan debuted, she became heartbroken once again, the company hadn't even asked her to be with the group this time. It seemed like she'd never be able to debut and she took a long hard look at the lifestyle she had chosen and started to realize...some things just weren't right. How many times had Leo or other kpop idols been hospitalized from illnesses due to stress or overwork? How many times had the idea of resting seemed not to occur to them? How many idols did she know that had to keep their relationships a secret just so that they could protect them from their fans? How many artists did she know that went through plastic surgery because they didn't think they looked good enough? The industry was much darker than she knew...after Leo was hospitalized in late 2017 and Jonghyun from SHINee committed suicide, she knew she had to do something about it. That was when she was scouted by Predisposed to become a trainee at their company. Jellyfish tried to keep her with them, offering to let her debut as a solo artist, but she knew that she was not good enough to debut on her own. Though her heart broke to leave the company where she met the man she loves and some of her closest friends, she knew something had to be done.

giphy.gifSandra-Bullock-GIFs-sandra-bullock-23241 tumblr_mcqbqe1BWl1rimpp2o1_500.gif

2017-2018 Predisposed Years: When she joined Predisposed, she wasn't really sure why they had scouted her. The company seemed to give off a more y vibe that she could give off in a million years and it was so secretive. However, when she met the CEO and learned his goal, she knew she had found the right place for her career. She had trained hard for the past 8 years and had seen many of the dirty secrets of the industry. Her main goals were to expose the insane ways idols treat themselves for their fans, to the point of hospitalization, and to unravel the idea that idols were above normal humans and lacked human emotions like falling in love. After a few months of training, she got up the courage to tell the CEO about her relationship with Leo. He was a little concerned about her keeping up with her schedules while being in a relationship but when she told him they had been together for a few years, he was surprised. He allowed her to keep her relationship as long as she kept up the way she had been with her schedules. He also agreed that at some point in time, they would be allowed to reveal their relationship. Her vocals and rapping skills were defined at Predisposed. She met Fae during vocal training and Lene during dance practice and they hit it off having riff offs and dance offs together.

vocal twin.

— Younha (main) Korean / Japanese / English
— Christina Stürmer - German
Zico (lower ranges; similar not exact) unless she is mimicking a different singer

In addition, her vocal range goes much higher (about an E6, think Christine from Phantom of the Opera) and she is exceptionally good at imitating tenor men voices (think Taeyang and GDragon). She is most known for the emotion that she puts into her voice, her range, and her breath control.

rap twin.

Momo [Twice]

She is decent at speed rapping but she's better at the flow and rhythm of rap, not so much the lyrics (her talent lies in ballad and pop lyrics).

dance twin.

Song Da In [Wa$$up] (the one with the badge around her neck)

She is pretty good at copying dances after significant practice but she can't really come up with anything original except weird clumsy moves and moves centered around skateboard or basketball moves.

scandal(s).

"Stardom Ent Trainee: Boy or Girl?" In the beginning of Stardom years, she had extremely short hair and videos of the training got out with her practicing with both boys and girls and fans were unable to tell which gender she was. When she was named as the girl in the Tell Them and Be The Light music videos, the fans ate it up, half believing she was transgender and the other half finally accepting that she was a girl.

"Block B's Zico and former Stardom Ent Trainee Instagram Official Couple?!?" Because of their close friendship, her and Zico take lots of pictures together and post them on instagram. They are not and have never been dating and don't plan on it as they know for a fact that they are family through and through.

"Elemental Disbanded Before Debut" The scandal regarding her former almost group hit the fan real quick. She was lucky enough that the CEO of Jellyfish kept her out of the press as she had only been with the company a few months.

"VIXX Has a Seventh Member??" A few articles came out about her being a secret member of VIXX after she was seen on multiple fancams hanging out with them with her short hair. She thought it might've been easier to avoid fangirls harrassing her when she hung out with them but instead...she gained fangirls of her own. It was speculated that she was an unnamed composer for some of their music as she had been photographed with her guitar.

"Leo of VIXX Dating a Guy??" When they were still just friends (very close and to the point of secretly crushing on each other), the two of them were photographed together outside of the company heading to a gym to play basketball. Leo took off his beanie and put it on her and that's when the picture was snapped. Her short hair, once again, causing problems for the press and her friends.

"EXPOSED Main Vocalist Actually Lip Syncs!" She went on a program with her face covered and sang 'Who You?' by GDragon so well that it sounded like a recording and when she revealed who she was, people started to believe she had just lip synced instead of actually singing it and started to spread rumors that she couldn't sing at all and should be kicked out of EXPOSED. The scandal garnered so much attention that GDragon actually met with her to hear her sing and then went public saying that she actually can mimic his voice so well that he could use her as a singing double.

"EXPOSED's Lene and Cean Get Close." Rumors began to spin about Mari and Lene being in a possible relationship because they are the two members who enjoy skinship the most and are frequently seen with Cean's arm around Lene's shoulders and Lene's around her waist. In truth, they are really just good friends but secretly enjoy laughing at all of the rumors the fans spin about them. Their official couple name is MaNe.

personality.

— Hardworking, shy awkward, easily embarrassed, athletic, competitive, annoying, youngest sibling complex, self-doubting, kind, intelligent, caring

Leo is a very serious person when it comes to work and puts his whole heart into whatever he is doing. On stage, he portrays confidence and his vocals only enhance that. Off stage, he is a very shy and awkward person. He is terrible at expressing his true emotions and is often misinterpreted or considered to be a mean person because he isn't good at getting his feelings across so he doesn't say much of anything. It also takes him an exceptionally long amount of time to feel comfortable around people, enough to where he tries to open up about his emotions. He is also an extremely athletic person, playing basketball and football, swimming and doing TaeKwonDo. Because he is athletic, he also tends to be very competitive in anything he does.

Leo also suffers from the 'youngest sibling complex'. Growing up with three older sisters, he was spoiled a lot and tends to get a little annoying at points in time. Despite this, he is very kind and caring, especially to animals or children. When the group (or him by himself) go on variety shows, he can be an extreme airhead and he hates the cameras focusing on him during those moments. He is also extremely soft spoken when he speaks, a stark contrast to the way he sings on stage. He is absolutely terrible at aegyo (something that Mari finds adorable) and his bandmates about it all the time. He gets embarrassed easily and will do his best to get his groupmates to stop hounding him with questions when he's feeling shy.

When he is alone with someone he cares about, he can be very clingy and slightly insecure. He needs validation that the person cares about him but at the same time, he always feels like there could be something or someone better out there for them so until he feels comfortable, his insecurity can be a lot to deal with. Once he is comfortable though, he struggles with keeping it a secret because he is so unbelievably happy to be with that person.

history.

 At the beginning with you~

Mari and Leo met when she transferred from Stardom Entertainment to Jellyfish. She was asked to be in VIXX's Hyde music video during all of the turmoil that came with the band she was supposed to debut with and moving companies. They had seen her in the few Block B videos she was in and thought she would fit the part. She was surprised to be cast in such a girly role but she really enjoyed working on the Hyde set with boys. The only person she had to convince to be more aggressive during the filming was Leo and when he finally got tired of her pestering, he got more aggressive and that's the shot they took for the music video. After the filming, she became close with Hyuk and Ken especially as they enjoyed messing around. She became close to the rest of VIXX as well...all of them except for Leo. Leo felt so awkward around her after the music video and how aggressive he got but at the same time, he was kind of upset that she was friends with the rest of his groupmates. He started complaining to Hyuk about how he didn't think she liked him as much as the other members during a break in one of their practice sessions and Hyuk was tired of hearing it so he decided to text Mari something along the lines of "Leo-hyung isn't feeling very well, maybe you should come and cheer him up, I think Ken-hyung is annoying him." Mari had a hard time believing it was only Ken annoying Leo but she ran to their practice room, stopping only to catch her breath outside the room. When she came in and said hi, she walked into everyone staring at her wide-eyed...except Hyuk who was smirking and said "Told you she liked you, Leo-hyung." This caused Mari to go bright red and she started hitting Hyuk who started laughing along with the rest of the members. Ken asked her if she had run to get there and in the heat of the moment, she admitted to it before glaring at him. Leo got super embarrassed that she had run to come and make sure he was okay and the two of them began to get closer after that.

I try to make my way to you
but I still feel so lost

About a year into her training at Jellyfish, the Elemental scandal had blown over and she was working hard at her skills. She was asked to participate in Lyn and Leo's music video Blossom Tears. Leo did not want to act so closely with someone he wasn't comfortable with. The director let him choose the girl he would act with in the main portion of the video and Lyn would act the role of the previous girlfriend. Mari was already aware of her growing feelings towards VIXX's Main Vocalist but she accepted the job as she knew it would help him perform better. On Leo's side, his emotions were confusing him but all he was certain of was that he was happy to have someone that he was close to acting alongside him because he was sure it would help the acting flow more naturally. During the duration of the music video filming, the two of them found, instead of just acting, they each were actually expressing part of what they felt towards the other person. During the scene on the bed, the part with him her hair wasn't planned but he just felt it was natural to reach out but as he started to do it, he realized what he was doing and pulled away and then was scared when she took his hand and brought it back to her face. When he began to play his freak out session in the music video, she let her body take over and she went over and hugged him from behind and when he leaned into her, she had to hide her face in his shoulder to hide her blush. After the filming, they both seperately told themselves they were going to try and fix the feelings that had become stronger during the course of the music video. However...it didn't exactly work out like that.

 Tell me you want me
 Speechless and I'm shaking

After the filming, the two of them began messaging each other every day and would frequently go out to play basketball together. When he had schedules and she was training, they would video call and usually it would be between her and all of VIXX but near the end of the call it was always the two of them talking by themselves, neither wanting to hang up. Their respective friends kept pushing them to confess but both of them were extremely shy about their feelings. However, during one round of basketball in a park near the company, they played one-on-one until they were so tired they collapsed on the ground with Mari's head resting on Leo's stomach as they tried to catch their breath. Once Leo caught his breath, he muttered something causing Mari to turn her head and look at him to see him with his arm over his eyes and his face and ears were bright red. Sitting up, she heard his next words clearly. "It's okay if you don't...I'll understand..." which made her even more confused. She sat up completely and raised her eyebrow, asking him to repeat the first thing because she hadn't heard it. This made him visibly gulp before sitting up beside her and hugging his knees to his chest, not looking at her at all.

"I asked if maybe...you wanted to...to go out with me...as my girlfriend..."

At first she was floored that he actually liked her back but once she came back to reality and realized he was still waiting for an answer, she smiled brightly before leaning towards him and kissing his cheek as confirmation to his question. This caused him to smile before burying his head against his knees and clasp his hands behind his head in embarrassment.

The beginning of their relationship was a little awkward because they were a little unsure of how to act around each other. To the members of VIXX, it was obvious they were together but they could also tell that Leo was getting into his 'she should find someone better than me' mood. Ravi eventually told Leo he thought that Mari should be the girl in their music video fo Beautiful Liar. It was during the course of the filming that the two of them realized how much they really cared about each other and didn't want to end up like the couple in the video. The easiest way for them to communicate seemed to be through music. Their relationship grew stronger after that and they go to the point where they were comfortable showing a little skinship when they were around the VIXX members.

Do you love me enough to let me go?
 To let me follow through

The two of them became a strong couple over time. She has met his sisters and nephew and he has met her younger siblings. They did eventually have to tell the CEO of Jellyfish about it, just in case it came out before they were ready and, although he wasn't exactly happy about it, he agreed to let them continue as long as they kept it a secret. After Gugudan debuted, Mari went into a slump, thinking she would never debut and she missed her only shot, and Leo did his best to help her through it. When she started talking about fixing the kpop industry, they had their first major fight. He didn't understand her intentions and she was upset that he was just okay with the way the industry was with everything that was going on around them. They didn't talk for a little more than a week (which doesn't seem like a long time but when you are used to seeing each other every day and speaking all the time, it felt like forever). During that time, Leo was hospitalized with stomach pains but still continued to promote. Once he was hospitalized officially, she went and stayed with him in the hospital and tried to explain to him that this was part of the reason she wanted to change the system. She also told him that she had been scouted by Predisposed and she was going to take the offer. He was going to argue with her again but then he looked at the situation he was in and finally understood what she meant.

developements.

— Over time, it becomes increasingly harder for the two of them to keep it a secret and that can be seen in their actions for each other. Though easily played off to those who don't know them, their friends can tell clearly that they wish they could tell the world they were together. So more "accidental" skinship in public and things of that sort would happen as it goes on.

interactions.

— Because of their different companies and hectic schedules, they don't get to see each other in person as often as they would like. However, they manage to message each other every day whenever they have free time and at night, they do their best to make time to call or video chat with each other. Every month or so they try to find time to sneak out together and play basketball or just hang out alone and talk or have 'date night' and just be with each other. When they are together in public around people that they don't know, they just seem to be close friends. Leo keeps his usual poker face though he has admitted it is harder around her because he really just wants to hold her hand or hug her from behind or lean his head into the nape of her neck and relax. She teases him as usual and when she knows that no one is looking, she'll squeeze his hand lightly or slip notes into his pockets. If she is visiting VIXX, they act very close with each other, usually her sitting next to him with his arm around her or her sitting between his legs with his arms around her shoulders. They aren't a couple who is super open about PDA, but slight skinship like holding hands or hugging is fine.

conclusion.

— They have a set plan for revealing themselves to the public once their companies both agree that it is okay. Since they started dating, Mari has always said she wanted to peform "I Don't Want To Be An Idol" with Leo because she knows that the song is exactly the type of things that they get stuck with. She also plans to wear the dress that she had in Dynamite because she thinks its gorgeous and the way the colored powder fell on it turned it even more gorgeous. The two of them decided that when both companies said it was okay, they would perform together and reveal their relationship. Regarding the long run, they both would like to get married and raise children in the long run. They are both family oriented people and want to be together for a very long time. Leo wants to propose but he's not sure when the best time is with her finally getting a chance to debut.

- Leo met her younger brother when he was chosen as one of the torchbearers for the 2018 Olympics.
- Leo thinks it's adorable when he finds her watching videos of VIXX live performances and crying because she is overwhelmingly happy that her friends enjoy performing and feel proud of themselves.
- Her ringtone for him is a lion roar and his ringtone for her is a seagull call.
- Mari would love to show him her hometown and maybe teach him how to surf.

last words?/suggestions? Again, here is my girl. I love her very much and I apologize for the delay in getting her resubmitted. Thanks for considering her again. I know it's a lot to read and I definitely went overboard with the details but the app was so fun to fill out. Please let me know if you need any further clarification about things.
