The first, of course, is her dazzling smile that could probably power a small nation if we figured out how to harnass it. See, you wouldn't say she's a shortie queen from the fancams or the the photos, she holds herself with an aura that's larger than life. She radiates star power, but not the kind that puts her up as a goddess that cannot be touched, more the kind of star power that makes you want to do anything for her, for just a morsel of her attention. And she'll give it to you, she'll radiate your way with a smile and a real sincere compliment and oh my god she recognised you from a fansign you managed to squeeze in 11 months ago!! Sakura » Oh my god I was at Hybe first what the is she doing here?? 

So Nohee doesn't have anything personal against Sakura (yet??) but there's always been a one-sided competition in Nohee's mind against her. She had to grow to become bigger than the biggest IZONE star. Nohee has been judging herself by IZONE's standards for so long it's habit now and Sakura remains the one to beat. If she can beat Sakura then Nohee really would be the absolute biggest star that came out of Produce 48. If she beat Sakura then maybe, maybe, she might finally feel fulfilled enough, she will have finally 'shown them'.


Chaewon » And her, too??

See here are some more direct mixed feelings. Nohee knows within her heart of hearts that it was Chaewon who was rigged into IZONE. That means either she or Chowon were cast aside in favour of this little doll-faced girl. She has nothing personal against her but that stings, man.

Wonyoung » Don't forget I always beat you and I will beat you again

They hardly really spoke at Starship, Wonyoung was An Infant and one with connections to boot. She always presented herself as on a different level and Nohee had no real wish to become a babysitter regardless. Then as Produce happened she became in Nohee's mind's eye the very representation of Star's ery and the one to beat and oh she beat her every single time. Sure, Wonyoung ranked higher in the online votes, but Dohee had to watch her face every single time they had a performance together and it was Nohee who was on top. That felt pretty good tbh. Now Nohee knows that Wonyoung is A Babe and it's a little faux pas to be so stupidly competitive against an actual child, even such a priviledged as hers, so she keeps her feelings close to her chest. But Pop winning out against IVE would still feel pretty damned good ngl.

sTRENGTHS » Nohee is magnetic, you will get pulled in by her gaze and her smile of pure enjoyment and pride. It doesn't matter that she doesn't execute all the moves when she looks like she's having so much fun doing it! And don't you want to have fun right alongside her? This girl has fan service down to an artform, she will talk to the audience before a performance and make them feel seen, she will find the phones pointing her way and give a little wink just for your fancam, she will stay way longer waving at all the fans gathered at the entrance of the music show venue than her managers want, she might even come take the flowers you're offering even though Kwon is screaming on the inside that they'll be late.

 

And she doesn't even know she's gathering an army of the most loyal fans one smile and comment at a time! Nohee just wants to bask in all the attention, she is LOVING THIS and she's loving being loved and she WILL remember you from one fansign to the next. She WILL spot you in a crowd of cameras and know you were the one recording her last time weren't you? Well she gave you a wink that time so how about she shoots you a little heart this time? WEAKNESSES » As an idol and entertaining? None, really. Nohee was made to be a star, she was made to be adored by the masses, she was made to be charming and silly and just willing enough to make an utter fool of herself in front of the camera. 

Now when it comes to teamwork, there's a bit more to be explored. Nohee has never been super good at teamwork, it was always one of her trainee weaknesses aside from the mediocre talent and all. She's just rather naturally self-centered. It never comes out in a mean or backstabby way but Nohee is an attention who craves the spotlight and Nohee will maneuvre herself to get it. She's also a terrible leader please do not make her leader I know she's the oldest but Hybe you know better than this.

Nohee was streetcast by SM when she was only 12 years old and made it in through sheer power of being an adorable tween but she didn't hold up in the super competitive environment for very long. She wasn't pretty enough to be an SM-level visual and not talented enough to be an SM-level talent and not competitive enough to survive. She left when her contract was over.

She entered YG right after upon recommendation from the SM trainee manager. This was a horrible mistake. YG was worse, not in the least because of the CEO's own creeping. Nohee hated every second of it and left as soon as her contract let her. 

She next somehow entered JYP. Companies kept being taken in by her charms initially but then her talents wouldn't cash the cheques. Turned out JYP had a trainee who was fairly similar to Nohee in looks and charms but a bit more talented so she wasn't, in the end, considered for Sixteen and JYPE let her go to purse her dreams elsewhere.

As she gained popularity, ty allkpop articles started referring to her as the girl who could have debuted in Red Velvet, Blackpink, and Twice. This was absolutely ridiculous, she never got anywhere close to any of these lineups, but it does make for a pretty picture doesn't it? As if she was always destined for success but was never in the right place at the right time. 

She actually came closest to debuting in Starship which the articles always forget to mention unless it's to milk some imagined beef with Wonyoung and Yujin. She was in the debut lineup for a little while before she was cut in favour of Yeoreum. Nothing person, just kpop politics. Then she wasn't selected to be sent to Produce 101 as Starship wanted to project an image of talent and she wasn't deemed to have much of it. Still she stayed, mostly because she didn't really know where to go next and there was still the contract. When Produce48 came up she firmly requested to join. She was firmly denied, now deemed too old (for with Wonyoung joining talent surely wasn't much of a factor anymore, or so Nohee judged).

 

Ok. Fine. She'd ing do it herself then.

 

 

PRODUCE48 » *she'd replace Shiroma Miru in all her performances, rip Miru, and Sian in Rumor cause I couldn't resist Rumor

She applied as independent trainee and this mad lad actually made it in. She was introduced grandly as the trainee who had trained in all big 3 companies with much fanfare, after which Mnet loved to show how inadequate she actually was as she did an ok rendition of Bubble Pop on her own and got yeeted into C.

For most produce contestants, something so humiliated would have been the end of it. It certainly was for Jinny and Roya. Not for Nohee who, despite her initial lack of screentime, won fans hearts at during the first live performance where she beat out Wonyoung to come #1 in her group of Very Very Very despite her few lines. She absolutely carried with adorable facials and pre-performance fanservice and the audience loved her and her ranking rose to the top 20.

This continued for the rest of the show. She got more and more screentime but always as a second fiddle to those whose companies had paid mnet to make them main character, but always Nohee would beat them out with the live audience. Memes were made of the ever-invincible in the rankings Wonyoung consistently getting beaten out by this independent unnie that flared up even brighter once mid-way it came out that Nohee was an ex-starship trainee as well. Then it became a Thing and she got even more votes from Wonyoung's antis and Nohee started to hit the top12 like a storm after Side to Side.

 

She continued to grow in power after Rumor showed she could do y as well and entice everyone and she was second in the total rankings only behind Sakura. Honestly, she entered the finale with all confidence that she would make it. She even got a decent part in the finale song!

So there she was, on the stage, waiting for them to call out her name. And they call out one after the other. There's Hyewon. There's Minju (what, really?). There's Marie. There's Chaewon (what the ?). There's Yena. There's Yuri (ehm, ok). One by one names get called and at first she doesn't want to hear her name cause the later they call it the higher her ranking is, right? So she's calm and confident and then it starts to waver. Could she be #4? Could she be #3? Could she be- no, she is not called as a potential first place. She's shaking at this point, she can barely stay on her feet. Then it's her or Chaeyeon, and who could ever want to deny this to Chaeyeon? Turns out she doesn't have to.

She's 13th place.

Except she's not really, is she?

So why did she get rigged out of the IZONE, you might wonder? Well, Nohee was magentic and energetic and cute, but so were Yena and Yujin and they were younger. Nohee was magentic on stage, but so was Wonyoung and Wonyoung was younger and prettier. Nohee was a stan attractor who was natural with fans, but so was Sakura and Sakura was famous and prettier. Nohee had a chipmunk cute lil doll face, but so did Chaewon and Chaewon was younger and also paid for. Do you see a pattern here? They might have considered her in the leadership role but she had failed spectacularly at that during the show so Eunbi was chosen over her and Nohee was rigged out unceremoniously and left sobbing on the stage as she was announced at 13th place.

Besides, as an independent trainee they would have had to share all of the Izone earnings directly with her and they'd seen with Jaehwan that it made a single idol far too powerful.

 

 

POST-PRODUCE » So, after That Whole Thing Nohee spent some time being very depressed in Jeju. Then she started getting legit lovecalls from companies who wanted to sign her! Sure, they didn't want to debut her into idol groups she was already considered old for that, but calls with "sign with us and we can get you into X variety show" or "sign here and we can get you into dramas" started rolling in with vague promises of solo debuts and real promises of fansigns. Fansigns! She still had fans!

Of course she still had fans, she was the original #3 of Izone. 

So she signed with one of them and the circus started. She started with some small fansigns where she'd perform songs from the show (oh god, another round of Naekkoya??) and connect with fans and damn she had way more than she thought she would. She went on a round of variety shows mostly centered around produce but she got more and more popular for her own charms and started getting invites to feature on episodes of gameshows as well. Her first big break was when she got cast for Idol Drama Operations Team with 6 other actual idols which blew up and got even more fans into her basket. She actually got some endorsements now! Look at her, she was succeeding!

Her star was rising more and more. She got cast as a Music Bank MC which was a steady gig she did for a year. She was a guest on Amazing Saturday once where she was consistently horrible at the games (she dumb) but super funny about it. She's been on Running Man. She MCed the Insane Quiz online show with Ilhoon. She got more and more endorsements for makeup and at one point for coca cola. If she were to compare herself to Izone (and of course she never would) her popularity was rising above the lower level Izone members with ease at this point.

Then rumours of the rigging for Produce 48 started circulating and god ing damnit. Everything made sense now! She didn't even need the court to officially name her as one of the wronged, she'd felt it in her bones the moment the rumours started boiling. And then succeeding became personal and Nohee knew she would became the biggest brightest star in Korea even if it would kill her.

Her real astronomic break is when in late 2019 when she got cast of the revival of Invincible Youth, a show everyone was asking for and finally appeared. She was the oldest on the show and the only one who wasn't actually a debuted idol, the rest of the girls were all rookies but technically she was the rookiest. And she dove into it headfirst. She honestly had the best time of her life digging into the mud in some farout Korean farming town. She may not be super smart but she sure could run after a chicken! Honestly she loved every second of it before they had to stop due to the pandemic. She was an absolute delight and the breakout star of the show and suddenly most of Korea knew her name! 

She rose and rose. Now she was doing chicken endoresements and the very top makeup brands. She was doing pictorals with luxury brands in magazines. She was invited back frequently to Amazing Saturday. She participated in year-end special stages and was a guest role in a handful of dramas. Were she to compare (and why would she? She definitely would never compare herself to Izone) she could give Wonyoung and Sakura a run for their money now. Who really was the breakout star of Produce, huh? And she didn't even have to release any music for it! In fact, her company had been pushing on her to do a solo song but that was the one thing that really scared Nohee. Really popular idols frequently went solo and nobody cared, not a drop in the Melon top 100. Nohee was dwarfed by IZONE's charting success (not that she'd ever-) and how embarrassing would it be if she released someone and nobody except her fans cared? So she kept doing fansigns and kept doing cover songs and talk segments and dodging any question of when she might debut as a singer.

And then she got the mother of all lovecalls: Hybe came calling. Mother. ing. Hybe. And Nohee knew it that this was the golden opportunity she had always been waiting for.

 

 

FUTURE ACTIVITIES » Well before debut, I think it would be absolutely rad if she'd got to do Pop before the full group is announced like Soyeon and Idle Song. It'd be hilariously apt and also Nohee was afraid to debut solo for fear of failure so after all this time that's what she hasn't done yet while the fans have been clamoring for her and reddit and twitter posts flying out the door about when will Im Nohee debut solo?? So it would just be perfect for her to first join Hybe which has everyone's tongues wagging, then debut solo with Pop! which charts like mad and is the biggest relief for her who was so afraid of looking the fool and failing, and then debuting in POP. 

Her contract isn't quite the same as everyone else's. Nohee has tasted freedom for a very long time now and she's heard many horror stories from idol friends. She made sure that her contract set some freedoms for her in stone. For one, she only wants to be in one subunit to leave time for her individual schedules and career growth. Secondary she has to stay at the dorms only during promotional time and any other time she's at leisure to stay in her own apartment (with Livy). All of her earnings from individual schedules go to only her as well (hey, Pop never made any of that happen, they should honestly be happy she's here to sell their albums they're still getting rich off of her anyway). She's very much one of them but also not.

comments/suggestions » Thank you for letting me make her a little bit older than you had intended! You're welcome to change her training background if it conflicts with someone else or if it's a bit much, I just thought it'd be funny to have this inconsequensial big 3 trainee who then ends up debuting in the big 4 but funny is all the thought that really went behind that. I imagine her doing Yujin's audition for gp999 which would make it that much better for her to debut with Pop!
