How I get name for my characters
Hello, let me show how I can find name for characters of my story - both main and supportive characters.
It is simple way.
1. From press
Newspaper, online news etc. are the sources I can get the names. I have a note, I usually write down the names that I see, including surname, firstname, , hometown (city or rural).
2. From TV news
I am interested to listen to the host narrates the news and I focus on the names of people who involve in the news. Even the written words that run at the bottom of the TV, if there is name of person, I will read and write in my note.
Sometimes, I take the name of the host.
3. From namelist
I was an administration officer.
When my workplace organized workshop or seminar, there would be a list of participants that came to enroll. The participants would give their full name and signatures. I ever copied the namelist. It is for using in my fiction only, I never use their information to do illegal activity.
4. Name of patients
I usually go to hospital - because my health is weak.
When I am waiting for my turn to meet with the doctor, I hear the receptionist announces the name of the patients - and that time, I hurriedly take my phone out and write down in note.
5. Name of actor/actress
When I write story which is having Chinese or Korean characters, I usually take name of the actor or actress - because I don't know Chinese or Korean. Mostly, I take their real names.
6. Name of friends of sibling
Yes, it is good way to get the name.
I like to ask my siblings about their friends' names. Some of them have amazing names and I really like it.
7. Name of relative/friend
Nothing is fast and easy than taking name of people around us. Relative, friend, neighbor - especially our name.
Here are the ways of mine to get the name for characters of my story.
I think some of writers have the same method.
I hope this will help the writers, especially the new writer, to find names for their characters.
