KIM SEMI
"SO ETUDE HOUSE JUST CAME OUT WITH A NEW SAILOR MOON EYELINER -"

NICKNAMES:

❒ Okay, y. the lights dim on the stage, and the first groovy notes  of "Growl" fill the hall. Fans scream with excitement as seven silouhettes appear, all wearing ties and ready to shake booty. Then, the camera switches to independent trainee Kim Semi, who grips her tie smirks. Kim Semi, the cute sixteen year old who has fit right into Apink's performance. Kim Semi, whose jaw hung open and cheeks reddened as the Hot Issue team did their legendary performance. That Kim Semi smirks into the camera with lazy bedroom eyes, ruffles her tie,  and says "okay, y" with so much appeal that the crowd goes wild and every single girl in the waiting room bursts into loud exclaims of wonder. Needless to say that "yeah, come on" would get attached to Semi's name for the rest of the show, much to the girl's groans and embarrassed protests

LANGUAGE(S):

❒ korean, native.
❒ english, basic but she tries so hard.
❒ japanese basic. Other than the occasional google translating during an online shopping session, before signing with PRISM Semi hasn't been in contact with the language. Two years of vigorous training later, and Semi can speak Japanese... kind of. She can read it, very very slowly, and given enough time she'll be able to memorize and sing lyrics in the language (though not without an accent, thank god it's less noticeable when singing). But other than a basic vocabulary fit for asking for directions and thanking people for coming to the concert (and, of course, the ordering process of an online shop), Semi is still far away from speaking freely.

FACECLAIM: loona's Chuu
BACK-UP: oh my girl's Arin, iz*one's yena

HEIGHT: 168cm

APPEARANCE:

the bangs follow Kim Semi wherever she goes. They've been a constant in her life since middle-school, even before the braces came and went, even before her nose was retouched by a surgeon and her thighs got two moles that are oh so common among idols who get carbon injections. The bangs have been with Semi through puberty, through acne and growth sprouts, through bad grades and parental scoldings. The bangs have never disappointed. The bangs have been there when her first crush broke her heart, and when she placed 25th on Produce 101 (so close, and yet so, so far), and when she had to wait and train and train and wait. The bangs have been with her for so long that her forehead is slightly whiter than her already white face. They are her curtain, her shield, her comfort. They are her. Sometimes, she lifts the locks, looks in the mirror, and sees another person. A stranger, mysterious and unknown. Sometimes she's afraid of this stranger. Sometimes she wants to find out just who exactly that stranger is.

STYLE:

the best thing about being a girl is, without any doubt, the skirts. Periods and births may have been created by Satan, but pretty skirts and dresses and cute little bows and hair ties and shoes... those are the creations of angels. Semi adores them with a passion - everything that is pretty and cute and colorful has a soft spot in her heart, and boy is she glad she was born into the gender that can wear these freely without any prejudice tailing behind. The feeling of stepping outside with a flowy flowery skirt, a pretty blouse, some adorable doll shoes, and a pretty necklace around your neck... nothing would give you that much-needed energy and confidence boost quite like that. She has her fair share of jeans and shorts too, of course, and even the occasional printed t-shirt - they have their place in the circle of life too. But everything cute or pretty or adorable is where it's at. She spends an embarrassing amount of time shopping online for cute accessories from China and Japan, and if she spots a cute thing at the mall (like a hat! or a ring! or socks! or those cute Etude House lip tint cases!), you better bring out the big guns because that's the only way you're getting her out of there.

A MESSY COMPILATION OF RENDEVOUZ'S SEMI FUNNY MOMENTS

The horns blow loudly as the stage lights flash and Happyface's Hwang Sooyeon lifts her shirt to the beat of Hot Issue. The other four girls follow her, and the crowd goes wild, just like the girls in the waiting room. The camera focuses on independent trainee Kim Semi, whose jaw seems to have met the floor. Face the shade of a tomato and eyes wide and full of wonder, she stares at the screen, a silent scream on the tip of her tongue. Jellyfish's Kim Nayoung notices the state of the girl and bursts out laughing loudly, and Fantagio's Kim Doyeon is visibly forcing herself not to fall on the floor in a fit of laughter as she ruffles Semi's hair affectionately. Kim Semi doesn't care, she just stares as Kill Bill sirens sound on top of the audio. Such is the power of the Hot Issue team.

Semi comes exactly like the cute, useless things she orders online. There is the adorable packaging, with a diaphanous window at the center that showcases the product - perhaps a little battered, perhaps not exactly what they showed on the site, but it tries. Oh it tries so hard.

Girly, adorable, with a tendency to awkwardly laugh after doing something embarrassing, and an all-consuming passion for everything cute – That is Kim Semi, and that is really all you need to know (if the girl in question is to be believed). The kind of girl that squeals and rushes over to show you the new most adorable lip tint Etude House has ever produced, even if that's the exact thing she said last time they released a new product. There's not much to her other than that. Sure, she's a great listener and really fun to have around. She's a good friend and a good person. That's what everyone says. That's all they know.

Jokes and memes are her bread and butter, self-deprecating ones being the sweet strawberry jam you can't help but add even when you're on a diet. The awkward, loud laughter accompanied by a scratch of the head and a furious blush is practically a trademark (or at the very least the core of many, many crack compilations on youtube) of Semi, be it an awkward situation, tense moment, or really just a very funny joke. She is exactly the right combination of "oh sweetie no" and "awww" to spice up any company.

Two and a half minutes of Semi gushing to everyone about the sailor moon eyeliner she bought that one time.

There is a cloak that envelops Semi like a protective film - a thin, transparent coat that may seem like good protection, but in reality isn't all that hard to look through. She is a closed person, in theory. She doesn't like talking about herself nor does she like talking to others about her insecurities or any of her negative feelings. Even when tears of frustration streamed down Semi's face after an especially bad scolding by the vocal trainer, she shook her head and stuttered that she was alright. Talking about herself makes her uncomfortable, and painfully exposed. But stress and frustration and sadness can eat her away, and keeping up with everyone else is terribly lonely and exhausting when you're trying to appear as if you're not going through anything at all. That is the main reason why she started using the camera as her personal journal - the camera is her, and is the only thing Semi is comfortable talking to. It's her, yet not quite her so somehow it makes it easier to share the burdens that she wishes to conceal from others.

And it would've been all nice if it wasn't for the fact that Semi is practically an open book. In her naivety, she believes that she isn't all that bad at hiding her feelings, yet they are written all over her face at all times. A protective film that isn't protective at all. One look at Semi tells you everything you need to know - who she is, what she feels. Try to talk to her about it, and she wouldn't understand how you figured out she was upset.

But still she loves to listen. There is a kindness to her - the kind that makes her shake her head in horror after watching something bad happen on the news, and the kind that has created a list of potential charities she would like to donate and endorse when she is successful enough to afford it - and it drives Semi with a strong desire to help and make things better. She has big dreams (has always had them, for better or worse) but she starts small. She offers a sturdy shoulder and an open ear to anyone who seeks it, be it a friend or even just someone who's only talked to for a few times - though you don't need much to be considered a friend in her eyes. She sees someone in distress and immediately wants to help. While she's not always good at it - too naive to offer solid, practical advice, and too insecure to truly feel like her advice is any good - she tries, every time. Even if all you need is someone to provide the back vocals of Bohemian Rhapsody. She will belt the "Galileo" part for you.

Semi walks into the training room, camera ready and rolling.
"OKAY Y!" comes out in a chorus of various girly voices.
Semi walks out of the training room, camera judgementally pointed at the floor.

Semi dreams big. In her dreams, there is a stage and there are her groupmates and there is her. And she is wonderful and beautiful and great. She is effortless, a true star, like the ones she had seen on tv as a little girl and all but idolized into godhood. But like all dreams, come morning they fade into wisps, and reality greets with a big smile full of sharp teeth.

She's never shied away from hard work. Semi has always believed that she was born to be a star, and has been determined to achieve her dream. She's surprisingly studious when it comes to the things she wants to learn: be it training at the dance academy or at Prism, hours on end at times, or researching the theory behind vocal techniques until her eyes hurt and her ears ache from the earphones and her tongue feels swollen from singing. The problem is, in Semi's head there is a straight line from hard work to success. There is no account for luck, connections, outside circumstances, and the simple truth of talent. So when her vocal technique gets scolded despite the years she's spent working on it, something is wrong in the code. She never blames others, only herself, but she never understands what can be done. She can't settle on "that's just the way things are" - there is supposed to be no limit to one's abilities but the sky, so how is it possible that she can't improve? It's her, it's all her, but there's nothing she can do it about, no matter how much she tries. Of course, she wouldn't tell that to anybody until it eats her away. That cycle is vicious and ruthless, and has won many a battle against Semi's ambitions and confidence.

But the dreams remain. This image of the glamorous entertainment industry she imagined as a ten-year-old remains, the sterile glamour and the pristine shine of stardom. She knows right from wrong, and she knows about all these awful things that happen in the world, but it's all in theory, in the part of her mind that naively sees it as the "outside world". A girl who never had to ask for anything, it's hard for Semi to understand that there isn't a difference between the awful things she reads about online and real life. She doesn't think about consequences when doing something, not as thoroughly as one should - signing up with an unknown company so quickly and impulsively could've gone entirely different in the blink of an eye, but Semi doesn't think about it. Things like that don't happen to her or to those she knows, it's something reserved for sad newspapers and online articles.

In her mind, things just sort of work out, one way or another. It sure did for her, despite her long and tedious journey. If anything, that six-year long journey is the type of hardship Semi thinks happens, as it was the hardest thing she went through in her life. Debuting and experiencing what the "real" world is like will be a huge wakeup call for her - her ambition is as practical as her dreams, and faced before the things she might see in the industry, she might not have what it takes to overcome it all. Semi dreams of the stars, of people like SNSD and BTS, but she only sees the destination, not the road, and the road (Semi of 2028 has come to realize) is the important part of this equation.

Determination and practice can only get you so far.

But she tries. She really tries so hard.

BACKGROUND

Suwon had done a wonderful job of preparing Semi for the wonders of Seoul. It had everything a growing girl with big dreams could ever have - a booming metropolis, large enough to get the Big City Experience but not so large as to feel overly crowded. Kim Semi grew among these concrete jungles that were almost yet not quite Seoul, and she had always felt like a big city girl. Appropriately, Kim Semi had big city dreams.

Dreams of stardom have not been rare among Semi's generation, the Girls' Generation made sure of that. Gee swept across the nation as quickly as the Plague, and ten-year-olds across the city danced to the moves and sang about the perfect Prince Charming and the innocent love they knew nothing about. Semi, of course, was among them. With Girls' Generation came SHINee, and then T-Ara and Beast and the entirety of the second and third generations of Kpop. And what a Big City Dream it was, to stand on stage in front of thousands and perform, to be the It Girl of Korea, to meet celebrities and be one. With stars in her eyes and the screams of her fans in her ears, Semi begged her parents to sign her up for singing and dancing classes, and when she first stepped into the studio of the dancing academy, it felt as if she was just one step away from being a star.

Six years later, and she was still there. As a teenager, Semi's desire to be an idol hasn't disappeared, though she has met the harsh reality of how competitive the industry is. She has failed dozens of auditions - SM, JYP, YG, time and time again, Cube, Starship, Pledis, Source Music... She tried them all, again and again and again, and all of them had said no. She was sixteen and hopeful, yet the countless failures had left their mark on her confidence and ambitions. Six years is a long time to work for something and not see the light at the end of the tunnel. She enjoyed singing and dancing, a lot, but it was different - she was taking private lessons and attending a dancing academy. Those didn't create a pretty little path towards a project group and MAMA, an entertainment company did. Frustration and disappointment and fear have festered in Semi as she entered high school and had to start thinking about her future - her real, actual future that was going to come sooner rather than later. A few months and Semi might've given up on her dream. Thankfully, Produce 101 happened.

It was one of her teachers at the dance academy who said that he knows someone in a production team of a new survival show that Mnet was going to do, and that they were recruiting participants. Mostly trainees from companies, but they are looking for some independent girls too. A bunch of girls decided that yet another trip to Seoul couldn't hurt, and Semi, never one to back down from an audition, decided to go. And for the first time in six years, someone looked at her and decided that Kim Semi was exactly what they wanted.

Produce 101, despite all of its ups and hardships, was the best thing that happened to Semi in her life. For the first time in her life, Semi stood on a real stage. The competition was cutthroat and the shooting was long and exhausting and the screentime was total and utter bullcrap, but it could all be forgiven because Semi was performing. For the first time since she started her journey to idoldom, Semi felt like she was going somewhere. Being an independent trainee in a competition where your company is almost as important as you was tough, but with her adorable looks, dorky jokes, work ethic, and most importantly one viral performance, Semi managed to climb the ranks and reached 25th before being eliminated in the 10th episode. Only a few days after her elimination she was approached by a scout from a newish company that was in the process of scouting trainees for a potential girl group. She didn't know much about Prism Entertainment, but the promises of a quick and sure debut were alluring, especially after tasting the forbidden fruit of standing on a stage.

In retrospect, she should've known it was a bit too good to be true. A "quick debut" turned into two years of vigorous training to fix and improve the skills she had acquired on her own. Semi had to move to Seoul on her own (thank god for the Prism dorm) and change schools to SOPA. It was hard and tiring and scary, but at least she was there. A trainee, on the way to becoming a proper idol.

TRIVIA

LIKES

❒ photography and vlogging - Semi has always loved taking pictures, but during her trainee days her mom had gifted her a small video camera so she can send her parents videos of herself. Since then, Semi has fallen in love with photos and videos. It also helps her cope with her own feelings, as taking photos and video and talking to the camera feels almost like telling someone what she feels like, but not really so Semi's deep thoughts are kept safe.

❒ cute things - has a not so mild obsession with cute, mostly useless things - the kind you see on Wish and Aliexpress that cost less than a dollar so it's easy to go overboard and order like a hundred. Semi goes overboard, always.

❒ praise and compliments - Semi thrives off of positive reinforcement thanks to her her ambition and self-conciousness. She loves being told she's good, and in return she loves and always makes sure to give other people around her plenty of compliments so they can feel good too.

❒ k-pop girl groups - hey, she chose her career for a reason. She prefers girl groups over boy groups because girls are pretty and make everything better, and mostly because she has been fangirling and fantasizing about 2nd gen girl groups since she was 10. Her absolute favorite idols are the charismatic, powerful women like Taeyeon, Hyuna, Hani, Sunmi. She knows all the choreos to all the girl group songs in existence.

❒ animals - whether cute ones like dogs and cats, or cool freaky ones like spiders and snakes, Semi adores animals with her whole being.

❒ flowers - Semi absolutely adores flowers, and thinks it's the highest form of romance to gift flowers to someone.

❒ ramyun - the forbidden fruit, the carbs taste so good but the face bloating looks so bad on the camera. Semi goes through Sophie's choice every time she passes the ramyun section in the convinience store.

❒ romance - Semi is a hopeless romantic, fueled by her naivety and plethora of k-dramas. Will she get her heart broken? Probably. Does that make her not idolize every couple she sees or reads about? Nope.

DISLIKES

❒ scary things - gets scared extremely easily. Jumpscares, haunted houses, those Produce pranks and segments where you have to put your hand inside the box... Semi hates them with a passion. She'll scream and she might even cry, and will definitely curse to hell and back. Variety shows are going to be fun.

❒ being compared to others - it triggers her self-conciousness and her doubt, and she starts thinking she's not good enough. She's had plenty of that during training and to this day it makes her either teary or very annoyed.

❒ cooking and cleaning - boy does Semi love to eat, but she cannot for the life of her cook. It takes forever and it's so difficult! She'd much rather make some instant noodles instead. And cleaning? Oh boy, that's so hard and it just gets messy like five minutes later!

❒ arrogance - as someone who is very insecure, Semi can't stand people who are so confident in themselves they ignore everything around them. It irks her that people like that exist, most likely because on some level she kind of wishes she'd have a fraction of their confidence to boost her own. She gets very annoyed at arrogant people.

❒ malicious comments - Semi would like to say taht she isn't bothered by those, but truth be told she takes them very seriously. They always mirror what her darkest thoughts are saying, that Semi isn't good enough and shouldn't be here, and Semi hates listening to these thoughts. She tries not to read too many, but sometimes she gets into a rabbit hole on naver and cries herself to sleep.

HABITS AND HOBBIES

❒ embarrasment - gets embarrassed really easily, and gets all red and giddy when it happens. Usually laughs it off quickly (and very, very loudly).

❒ snorting - when Semi laughs (and it happens like every 5 minutes), she tends to snort very loudly, which makes her embarrassed which makes her laugh which makes her snort even more.

❒ stretching - Semi stretches whenever possible and it has become a habit that helps her deal with stress. She does it almost unconciously - when she's eating, watching tv, brushing her teeth. She's scared many a rendevouz girl randomly dropping into a split during casual netflix time.

❒ social media - Semi's love for photography and videomaking translates beautifully to instagram posts, youtube videos, and countless v-live streams. The problem is that Semi records everything. And Semi loves going live. But Semi is chaotic all the time. Wooseok and Suran have heart attacks every time Semi presses the "Record" or "Go Live" buttons, but Semi doesn't care - she thinks that recording these years is the best thing she can do. She wants to record her journey with her groupmates, so that she'd have something to look back and remember how wonderful her youth was (she's always imagined that Girls' Generation members do the same).

❒ cute collections - Semi's room is filled with her cute useless things to the brim - the one back home and the one in her dorm. She is very strict about keeping them organized too, everything has a place, be it on the shelf or on her nightstand. And you bet her bed sheets are all ing adorable.

❒ games - Semi loves games, even though she's not very good at them. She absolutely adores cute games like stardew valley and animal crossing, and is a total pro at sims. She loves multiplayer games like league of legends, overwatch, pubg, and fortnite, but she's really not that good at them and ends up losing a lot.

❒ makeup - Semi really likes doing makeup for fun. She might not be as good as their makeup stylists, but she always likes experimenting and trying different tutorials she found on youtube.

TRIVIA

Produce 101 has played a big part in her desire to record everything. It serves as a documentation of her journey, and Semi goes back to watch it every once in a while. She sees her growth, her memes, her moments with her produce friends, and she's thankful that she got this opportunity, and that this opportunity was recorded. To have that, but for a period of a decade? That would be invaluable.

got her nose done when she was sixteen, as a birthday present from her parents. It was still a tiiiiiiny bit swollen during the early episodes of Produce 101 but thankfully no one has commented on it.

Semi hasn't had her first kiss yet. The hopeless romantic in her wants to think that it's because she hasn't found the right one yet, but training since the age of 10 didn't leave much time for romance and boyfriends, despite her curiousity.

Because of that, Semi probably doesn't even realize she's biual, despite being attracted to women too. They're so pretty and make her go weak in the knees, but in Korea's ty reality it will probably take her a while to realize that's what she's feeling. She's definitely kissed the Taeyeon poster on her wall one too many times for it to be completely innocent.

despite not having much talent for it, Semi really wants to learn how to compose and produce music. She finds it absolutely fascinating and really wants to get good. She's been pestering Prism's producers for a while now, but so far there hasn't been much progress. Her problem is that while she has a lot of enthusiasm, she lacks in creativity and understanding of creating something deeper than a simple melody.

Semi is short-sighted and has 3 pairs of different glasses. It's not that bad, she can still see without them, though everything gets a bit blurry. She usually wears glasses around the dorm and company building and wears contacts during various idol activities.

you can bet your that once she gets her hands on Instagram (her own account or the group's, doesn't matter), she will post pictures of all the cute things she sees. Expect to see 15 pics of that one raccoon cafe in Itaewon. Cuteness like that has to be documented!

Her audition performance for Produce 101 was of Red Velvet's Happiness, but it was never broadcasted since she was deemed not interesting enough.

Favorite colors are yellow, purple, and pink

Favorite food is any sort of noodle. She also really loves watermelon, cucumbers, and pizza.

Will probably add more soon~

JIN SIRYEON
(work) mom | april 21 1978 | kahi

Semi adores her boss with her entire being. Not only is this the lady who has all but adopted her into her company - and believed in her, and trusted her to do well!! But to Semi, Siryeon is the embodiment of grace and womanly strength. Siryeon respects her tremendously, and loves her from afar like a love-sick puppy. If she didn't want to be Hyuna, she'd definitely want to be Siryeon. Semi makes sure to give Siryeon at least one cute plushie per comeback.

SOHN EUNBI
(work) aunt | march 4 1983 | seo jihye

Then again, Semi also really wants to be Eunbi. Another cool boss lady in her life, only this one is chill and badass and makes Semi fangirl in a not-completely-straight way. Semi also understands what goes into Eunbi's work a lot more than Siryeon, and so she actually understands what she appreciates - the concepts, the aesthetics, everything that makes Rendevouz shine on stage, make Semi shine. She makes sure to give her two plushies per comeback.

LEE SURAN
(work) unnie | july 9 1988 | jaekyung

Semi is very grateful for all the help Suran has been throughout her trainee days, she feels like without Suran she would've lost it two weeks in. At the same time, Semi truly feels as if Suran is her sister, and her naivety makes her feel hurt sometimes when Suran is more professional or pushes them to do something. She has publically declared that it's her job to "melt Suran-unnie's heart". Suran doesn't understand why Semi thinks her heart is frozen.

KANG WOOSEOK
(work) oppa | septmber 29 1990 | wi hajoon

Wooseok usually has to take the most of Semi's chaotic cuteness overloads. With Siryeon and Eunbi being "too high up", and Suran not always accepting it, Woosek has to deal with most of the "OH MY GOD OPPA LOOK HOW ING CUTE MY NAILS ARE!!!" and most of the gushing whenever a new cute pokemon comes out (and they're all cute). He says she's too much, he says she's annoying. Semi knows better (or does she?).

MIN JOOHYUN
groupmate | march 14 1999 | dreamcatcher's gahyeon

Opposites in some ways, Semi and Joohyun both condradict and compliment each other. Joohyun doesn't say much, but she hugs Semi and she indulges her when she needs to show someone all the cute things she got from aliExperss. They both adore cute things, and both love photography, and that's enough for Semi to consider Joohyun a great friend. She always makes sure to include her in whatever she's doing if she sees Joohyun drifting away, and she makes sure to always include extra cute stickers or a plushie when she orders things. Semi, however, doesn't always understand the concept of boundaries, and does tries to make Joohyun open up whenever possible (her thing is listening to others, okay?? Without that is she even a good friend!?), even when it's not a good time to do so. Semi's naivety and blind optimism also makes her not understand why Joohyun is so pessimistic sometimes, and she comes off as very naive, unreasonable, and illogical - things have to turn out great for them, they have to! Who needs to think about stuff, that just leads to problems Joohyun-unnie!

PRODUCE 101 GIRLS
jeon somi, jeon soyeon, kwon eunbean, kim chungha, kim sejeong, kim doyeon, choi yoojung, park siyeon

Semi loved her time in produce 101, and has made many friends - though they don't talk as much now that two years have passed. Out of all of them, Semi is closest to Eunbean as they're the same age, and Somi who is almost the same age. The three still talk in their kakaotalk chat, but Semi really wishes she can meet with her produce 101 unnies again.

RENDEVOUZ'S SEMI

main dancer, vocalist

TALENT TWIN(S):
oh my girl's yooa

PAST EXPERIENCE(S):

❒  private vocal lessons and dance academy

Has been featured in a few dance videos on the youtube channel of her dance academy.

❒  Produce 101 - January 2016-March 2016

❒ Ep 3 - first evaluation - I Don't Know team 2 + (as Kang Mina, 0:11)
❒ Ep 6 - dance evaluation -Growl  + (as Park Soyeon, 0:08)
❒ Ep 9 - concept evaluation - Don't Matter + (as Kwon Eunbean, 1:19)

Semi's most viral moment was her transformation from her performance in I Don't Know to her performance in Growl - she was praised for overcoming her hardship with performing a y song and for delivering a very charismatic and sensual performance (though Semi herself thinks she didn't do a good enough job. When comparing herself to performers with actual appeal and charisma, like Hyuna and Hani, she feels as if she's failed miserably, and was only noticed because she was extremely cute in the previous performance).

Other than that, she was mostly known for her cute visuals and her expressive face which has become somewhat of a meme. She skyrocketed in votes after episode 6, and remained steadily at rank 25 before being eliminated in episode 10.

TRAINEE LIFE: March 2016 - June 2018, 2.5 years

Being a trainee at a proper company was perhaps even worse than participating in Produce 101 in terms of a sleeping schedule. Managing between school (and a new school at that! During Junior year of high school! If that wasn't the scariest thing Semi had done in her life...) and training, homework and workouts, Japanese lessons and dancing lessons and, perhaps the worst of all, vocal lessons... there wasn't much time to have a social life, talk to her parents, or just eat and sleep. It was a terribly lonely experience - though most of the trainees at Prism turned out to be nice to hang out with - and the fact that her vocal abilities had been basically deemed irreparable did not help at all.

Turns out that her vocal technique is absolutely horrendous, if the vocal trainer was to be believed. According to Prism, most of what she had been taught was wrong, and now Semi had to do damage control before debuting. Frustrated and ashamed, with her confidence plummeting just like in the days of her failed auditions, Semi had no choice but to try and "fix" her voice, even if everything they tried to make her do sounded, in her opinion, absolutely wrong. Never one to back down from hard work, Semi took it upon herself to improve, but her voice was used to one way of singing for years now and struggled against her attempts to change. Two and a half years later, there is considerable improvement if Prism is to be believed. Semi doesn't really know what to think - on one hand she does feel like her voice has gotten a tiny bit more powerful and she can understand that some of what she did before wasn't exactly by the book. On the other hand, her voice has something unique about it, so who cares about the book? Her voice is still high-pitched and airy, but better enough than her Produce 101 days for her instructors to see that there's actual improvement.

MEDIA PRESENCE: Other than the usual articles covering the trainees of Produce 101 and their performances, the only other article about Semi has been regarding her signing with Prism, and later about her being a member of Prism Girls and Rendevouz.

HEADLINES:

memes - I imagine Semi will have a lot of memeable moments, so maybe if she goes viral she'll be covered in an article? I can see her pulling a Chuu and inventing the apple bite heart.

disrespectful semi - as Semi is very affectionate and lacks boundaries, I can see an interaction with a sunbae getting painted in a negative light, making some people call Semi out for being disrespectful towards her seniors.

❒ will add more if I come up with anything, but honestly do  whatever you see fit I live for both drama and wholesomeness

CAREER ASPIRATIONS: Semi really really wants to succeed as a group. She's fantasized about Girls Generation and their comraderie (while completely ignoring the Jessica fiasco), and she wants to have the same kind of friendship with the rest of the girls, and she wants them all to succeed together. Of course, she also really wants to be popular herself, and has always dreamed of also debuting as a soloist (and in her fantasy there's no jealousy, everyone supports each other and they all love it that Semi's so popular!!). Debuting in a unit would also be something she would love to do. Collaborating with any female idol from the second generation would be a dream come true, but Taeyeon, Hani, and Hyuna would send her into a fangirling bi frenzy. More realistically, she'd wish to collab with any of the Produce 101 girls who have debuted - Somi, Soyeon, Chugnha, Sejeong, Doyeon and Yoojung, Eunbean.

Other than that, Semi really wants to try everything idol life has to offer. She would adore shooting commercials, MCing, and absolutely dies to be cast in a variety show of some sort. Acting is also something she would love to try (but there's doubt if she'd actually be good at it or fall into the idol actors realm).

CHOI YUNBIN

BACK-UP LOVE INTEREST: okay so she's a chaotic biual so feel free to pair her off with whoever you want to and whoever has a cool dynamic with her. I will ship the out of it no matter who it is <3

also if you will choose Yunbin as Semi's love interest, feel free to ignore what I wrote here and come up with whatever you want! Also I wrote her birthday before checking Yunbin's app and they have the same birthday, is it destiny? idk but I'm using it

FACECLAIM: cix's jinyoung

DATE OF BIRTH: May 21st 2000
OCCUPATION:
idol, member of vesper

PERSONALITY:

organized, disciplined, assertive, attentive, protective, critical, ambitious, tactful,  irritable, insincere, arrogant, apathetic, envious

Yunbin is everything that Semi is not. He is annoying and rude and so ing arrogant and Semi is very, very displeased that they've been born on the same day because ever since she found out her special day has been ruined by his mere presence.

Semi doesn't understand how someone can be so confident in themselves. As someone who has spent the better part of her life doubting her skills and ambitions and thoughts, she looks at Yunbin, hears how he talks and sees how he carries himself, and it baffles her.

She knows he hates her. Knows he hates how she talks and how she thinks, thinks that she's annoying with her cute things and cute skirts and cute everything. She thinks he's ridiculously annoying too, with his whistiling and his beautiful lips puckering all the time (what! not beautiful, bad thoughts Semi!!) . But she doesn't think she can hate him. Not really.

There's something about Yunbin that Semi can relate to on a level that she has never quite felt with anyone else. The unwavering ambition, and the envy for others when it comes to things they think should be theirs. It's the sort of feelings Semi hates, the sort of feelings that make her feel like she's a bad person, and Yunbin? He's feeling all that too. And Yunbin's arrogant and rude and terrible, but he's also practically the first who has forced Semi to deal with the reality of the world. He's shown her that bad things aren't some far away concept, happens in her life directly - people can be rude to her, and people can disagree with her. And it's okay. Life continues to happen. And that means that her own negative emotions are fine too, they're a part of life that Semi can deal with, can accept.

Yunbin is the first person Semi wants to tell about what she actually feels like. He's terrible, he's infuriating, but he's so human and real, and she knows that he won't judge her. It makes her want to hear what he has to say, in return. She knows that he won't talk to others, because she won't. And yet she knows that he probably terribly wants to, because she does.

She wants to listen to what he has to say. She wants him to confide in him. She wants to tell him that sometimes she feels the same way.

It makes her heart feel weird.

LOVE STORY: I don't want to restrict you with anything when it comes to Yunbin, especially since he's your character, so definitely feel free to do whatever you want!

I can see them as being these sort of misguided enemies/rivals (I imagine Yunbin will find Semi VERY annoying and stupid at first, probably even more than she finds him annoying and arrogant) that realize they have some things in common and slowly warm up to each other. Both have a hard time opening up because of their own dark thoughts, and both live off of compliments and affirmation and could really use someone to lend them a ear. They can also learn a lot from each other - Yunbin could use some of Semi's blind optimism and enthusiams, and Semi could definitely use some good wakeup slap that not everything needs to be perfect and that life is sometimes ugly and that's okay. I can see how at some point Semi would try to make him talk to her, and will show him kindness despite everything that will start the heart melting process.

TRIVIA:

Semi admires Yunbin's voice a lot. She would never say it to his stupid ing arrogant face but he sings beautifully and his voice helps her wind down and calm down when she feels stressed.

She will also never admit this to him, but his height makes her knees weak. She's always fantasized about kissing someone tall.

She also thinks he's terribly pretty but she would die before admitting it to his smug face. He's too ing arrogant already!

CURRENT RELATIONSHIP STATUS: potentially sort of misunderstood enemies/rivals to slowly warming up to each other
ENDING RELATIONSHIP STATUS:
to hopefully lovers?
