When I start writing

I started writing when I was 8 years old. I remember that year was 1991, I was at grade 3.

My first fiction is very short and funny.

I remember its title was 'Love under the tree'. I wrote in Khmer language.

I can still remember its plot. It was a bout two classmates, girls, one had sister and another one had brother. They brought their sister and brother to meet under the tree, and the sister and the brother fell in love with each other.

It's my fiction. Funny, right?

A fiction written by kid is always like this.

In 90s, Cambodia just got up from the war. We did not have fancy product like today. Even note book was expensive and hard to find. I saved money to buy a small note book, and I wrote in that note book.

I wrote to read myself.

Breaktime was good chance for me to write. I did not go out to play and sat at my table and wrote.

My teacher found it, and she asked to read my story.

When she returned my book, she told me to continue writing.

Since then, I began writing story.

After, my family found out; they told me to stop; they said I should focus on study, and I followed them.

Actually, I missed writing so much, but I could not write because I needed to study.

When I entered university, I wanted to write, but my health kept falling down, so my family refused because writng is needed to think a lot, they were afraid my health would become worse.

Until 2005, my love for writing was triggered. I could not stop myself anymore. I demanded to do what I like, and my family agreed. In fact, they did not want me to write, I know, but they did not want to make me angry - anger will cause problem to my heart.

And my writing career began officially.

In 2005, I submit a story to writing contest. It was not selected, but I kept continue submit the stories year after. During that, I joined workshops and trainings. Most of them were taught by Australian and American authors, and they instructed short story.

In 2007, my story was selected, and I've got third prize.

In 2008, my another story was selected, and I've got second prize.

I stopped taking contest.

I worked in writing industry, but most of my works were related to translatation and interpretation because at that time, short story was not popular, and publisher was less.

After 2010, writing and publishing industry seemed to be up. There were several NGO, but they wanted story for children. So, I developed my skill; I learnt writing story for kid.

In 2012, my story for kid was published, then year after, my second story was on show.

I kept improving my writing skill day by day, year by year.

Short story cannot compete with novel, but I don't like writing novel; however, I have to study to write novel because readers love it.

My heart for short story does not change. I have tried my best to promote short story. I tried to find concept of story in hope to get my short story published.

I ever wrote story and made a hand-book myself. It was ghost story based on my own experience. I made 10 books, and all of them were sold. Then I found a way to sell my short story. It was writing short story about ghost. I wrote ghost short stories, about five stories, then presented to a private publisher - they agreed to buy with price $30. The four stories were published in same book in 2017.

It was unbelievable that the readers liked it, then the publisher asked me to write more and sold to them. Since then, I was named 'Ghost' writer, and I wrote ghost short story to sell to earn money.

Until 2021, there were many upset events that made me unable to continue, so I decided to stop working in writing industry.

However, I never stop loving writing, I just don't want to write for money anymore.

Like nowaday, I still write, but write for pleasure - online like I do on asianfanfics.
