PERSONALITY

positive: charismatic, creative, outgoing, playful, self-confident, sociable, witty

neutral: carefree, clever, fun-loving, mischievous
negative: cocky, impulsive, inconsiderate, manipulative, petty, self-centered, stubborn

OVERVIEW
— born in busan but moved to seoul at age 16, where he would later attend hanlim multi art school.
— jinhwa developed an interest in music at an early age thanks to his older brother joowon, an aspiring producer and songwriter, who first started giving jinhwa mini lessons when the latter was about 11 years old. it was the k-hiphop and underground rap scene in particular that captured his attention, and so with his best friend dohyun at the time who also shared the same interests, the two of them started to explore more together from keeping updated about new releases to learning piano and the beginning steps to music production.
— during the time jinhwa was finishing middle school, joowon had just graduated university and received a job in seoul, and so they both thought it would be a great opportunity for jinhwa to move with him and attend a performing arts school there. in 2017, jinhwa began studying at the hanlim multi art school.

— being surrounded by idol trainees at hanlim, jinhwa's interests began shifting as he no longer solely focused on rap but instead started gaining interest in becoming an idol, especially as he quickly befriended many of his classmates and became known as well-liked and a social butterfly throughout his year.
— although he researched numerous entertainment companies, an opportunity presented itself to him thanks to his older brother's connections and affiliations with prism entertainment. after watching the first season of mnet's 'high school rapper' in 2017, jinhwa had registered for the next season as soon as it was available, and it was through joowon spreading the word among his social-professional circles to encourage support for his brother (and showcase samples of jinhwa's work) that the younger came to prism's attention as a potential candidate for their first male trainee—and so following his application and audition, prism's first male trainee he became, one who would raise anticipation for his new company's future plans through his appearances on high school rapper (2018) and produce x 101 (2019).

— things have always gone well for him (ie. receiving praises for his skills, getting into prism entertainment without extreme difficulty, being well-liked in both school and on survival shows, and securing a spot in prism's future boy group) but it also means he hasn't experienced the struggles and hardships his fellow members have, such as facing rejection and failure and uncertainty. in a sense, it makes him spoiled and almost sheltered.
— despite being charismatic and clever in how he knows what to say to evoke a certian reaction, he's usually quite genuine when interacting with others—but if someone shows dislike towards him, he'll take it personally and try to flatter or subtly win them over by doing a lot of nice things for them. it might come to a point where jinhwa gets so frustrated that he'll directly confront them about what their problem with him is, and if they still dislike him and are unwilling to 'compromise' or change their perspective on him, then he takes it as some kind of declaration and does a 180 by intentionally doing the most to annoy and bother the other person from then on. he can be quite petty and immature despite not appearing so in public, but his line of thinking is that it's easier to cope with someone disliking him because he actively makes them dislike him vs. them disliking him despite him trying his best to befriend them.
— although he never used to cry because there was really nothing that he's ever suffered or had an extremely hard time with, jinhwa's character arc involves learning how to by becoming more empathetic and wanting to share s' pain—and because music has always been a major part of his identity, his growth as a person can be shown alongside his growth as an artist. as jinhwa explores more of human emotions through hearing the experiences of others, his lyrics will become more meaningful and personal as if he's seeking to tell their story and dedicating these works to them.
— but alongside forming new bonds with his groupmates comes mending old ones with a former friend—dohyun, who he'd grown up with and always thought would be by his side, only to now denounce jinhwa as some mediocre idol rapper after rising in fame as a soloist himself. what seems as a petty feud the public has become too invested in, in truth, runs much deeper than mere jealousy; and as someone who has yet to recognize his privilege and evaluate his own faults, there is still a long way to go before jinhwa can reach out and rebuild a broken friendship.

POSITIONmain dancer, vocalist, center
TALENT TWINStxt's yeonjun (dance, vocal, speech)

PERSONALITY

positive: affectionate, charismatic, dedicated, empathetic, kind-hearted, loyal, open-minded, passionate, supportive

neutral: introspective, perfectionist, protective, sensitive
negative: argumentative, blunt, cautious, distrustful, hesitant, overthinker, pessimistic, reserved, self-sacrificing

OVERVIEW (tw: absent father, homophobia)
— born and raised in san francisco, california.
— learned dance at a young age and wanted to become an idol not long after, and after passing an audition, he moved to korea where he became an idol trainee, enrolled into the school of performing arts (sopa), and joined a dance crew.
— winston originally came from another company and it was there where he competed in a survival show that would determine the debut lineup for the company's upcoming boy group. his natural charisma and dance experience gained him a lot of praise from the judges and viewers which let him rise in popularity, yet in the final episode, it was revealed he failed to make the final lineup. understandably, his fans and supporters felt that it didn't make sense that someone as well-liked and skilled as him would fail to debut, and in truth they were right that there was more to meet the eye regarding his final ranking.

— despite being sociable and outspoken, winston is actually very private about his family background, and the reason is because he has two moms: his biological mom and his stepmom, the latter who'd been his biological mom's closest friend for decades and stepped in when his dad had left them. rather than remaining silent out of shame, he instead genuinely adores them and would endlessly show his love for them if he could, but he also understands there is a stigma around lgbtq+ communities in korea and that it would be safer for all of them if he remained quiet about his family. as a result, he can only refer to his stepmom as his 'aunty', though it was painfully clear to his fellow trainees (and future fans) that he holds this person close to his heart.
— while winston didn't reveal details to his former fellow trainees, the company he'd been under at the time was aware of his family situation and had assured him that it would not be a problem—but in hindsight, perhaps he had been too naive in blindly trusting the company and the other trainees because reality hit him during his time on the survival show.

— all in all, winston was rigged out of the lineup and left the company (or rather, 'invited to leave'), resulting in him gaining a lot of distrust and withdrawing from his pursuit to become an idol for awhile.
— for almost two years, he stayed quiet with only his dance crew and dance studio activities, at least until he accepted that he's only ever worked towards becoming an idol all his life and that he couldn't imagine doing anything else. with that, he once more began the application process for numerous entertainment companies between 2019-2020, but having learned his lesson, this time he would only agree to a trainee contract if there was written confirmation that he'd be allowed to freely talk about his family in the future.
— it was a time when he was filled with much internal conflict, torn between chasing after his dream yet adamant to not turn on his family even if it meant letting a contract slip away, but prism entertainment came as a saving grace that offered him the protection he'd long hoped for. and so in early 2020, winston signed a contract with them and once more officially became a trainee.

— his main character development throughout the story focuses on learning how to open up again, especially with his complicated relationship in distrusting companies and other trainees on instinct because of what he went through at his last company. but prism doesn't tolerate bigotry and the members he debuts with are (likely) good people who come to care about him, so he'll gradually learn how to let the distance between them and himself slowly close.
— he seems so wild and free on stage because that's when he feels most at ease and in his element, and gradually, he'll more naturally show his genuine emotions with his fellow members. and in the future, especially after he reveals more of his family to fans, he's likely to become someone who a lot of fans place their trust into knowing he's extremely supportive with the lgbtq+ community.
— despite seeming fierce and distant and even a little intimidating, in truth winston is a very kind-hearted person who has a lot of love to give and affection to show (even if he's a little aggressive in showing it), and it's heartwarming to see him one day feel comfortable enough to go on and on about how much he loves his moms and how much he appreciates s and fans for being accepting of him and two of the most important people in his life.
