HA  SUNGJIN .

Nameha sungjin

Nicknames

☀ sungie, sungjinnie / affectionate nicknames friends and group members might call him.

☀ variety king / sungjin's charisma, wit, and seemingly endless energy make him a thrill to watch during interviews, reality shows, and variety show appearances.

☀ the bad influence / funnily enough, sungjin is considered a bad influence for the younger members; his fun-loving and daring nature means he's always up for exciting ideas, even if they're not the most wise... or sound. he'll persuade someone to marathon horror movies with him even if they're both easily terrified, or invite a member to join him for a 2am vlive despite the very likely scenario they'll cause a ruckus at an ungodly hour of the night.

☀ the gambler / somewhat related to the nickname above. sungjin is extremely competitive and can turn anything into a bet, like a 'no screaming while watching this horror movie' challenge and the like. even if the odds are stacked against him, his pride and stubborness keep him from backing down. his siblings and the members know this very well so it's quite easy to make him do things like chores as long as there's some kind of incentive (don't believe he can clean the house alone under an hour? loser of the bet has to treat the other to coffee for a week!)

Birthdate. april 3, 1998

Birthplace. seoul, south korea

Hometown. seoul, south korea

Languages

☀   korean / native ; born and raised in korea.

☀  english / intermediate ; from elementary to high school, sungjin has always performed exceptionally well in all (or most) of his classes. his english grammar is considered very good and reading and writing don't come as too much of a challenge, but he's far from being fluent and still retains a noticeable accent in his pronounciation.

☀ mandarin, japanese / conversational ; like other trainees, he was instructed to learn mandarin and japanese for future international promotions. sungjin can hold a general conversation and knows some terms beyond basic vocabulary, but he still has lots to learn.

Height. 180 cm (5'11")

Appearance

☀  general sungjin is a tall young man with lively brown eyes, natural dark brown hair, and a presence that directly mirrors his personality—vibrant and charismatic, marked by an air of charming confidence that garners him attention amongst a crowd and is only further aided by his rather noisy nature. perhaps what makes sungjin so likeable is the sincerity behind his actions and words, as his expressive features seem to always convey his current emotions, be it genuine excitement or heartfelt sorrow.

☀  distinguishing features sungjin has multiple piercings including a lobe, an upper lobe, and a helix peircing on each ear. he also bears a scar along his left elbow from falling down a tree in middle school, which is kind of... an embarrassing story. the scar doesn't cause him any pain but fans still worry when they see him do any intense workout or choreography that involves heavy floorwork.

Style

☀ wardrobe sungjin has a very broad range of style spanning from simple hoodies and jeans to expensive coats and luxury suits, though the latter are typically saved for special occasions like pre-debut orchestra performances and award show appearances. his usual outfits include simple tee shirts underneath blazers, loose button-downs tucked into jeans, and long oversized coats worn with slacks and boots. though his wardrobe comes in all shades, he favors neutral hues for a casually classy look. rings, earrings, hats, and cross-body bags are also some common additions to sungjin's daily outfits, all color-coordinated and thoughtfully considered every morning before he leaves the dorms.

Personality

sungjin is the definition of a textbook extrovert, a social butterfly and entertainer at heart who thrives off the energy in the room and basks in the spotlight. his outgoing nature and great sense of humor make him great company, capable of drawing in others whether through natural charisma or by invitation, as he seems to live by a 'the more the merrier' motto. well-spoken and witty, sungjin welcomes attention with no signs of tension or nervousness before the presence of a crowd; if anything, he's quite known for his captivating storytelling skills thanks to his ability to read the audience and build off their reactions, a manner no different to how he interacts with others on the daily. such traits make him a joy to watch in variety shows, not to mention his eagerness towards games, challenges, and displaying his special talents. perhaps he does get a little too loud and rowdy sometimes, but at the end of the day it makes for a great time and even greater content.

as fun-loving as sungjin is, his ambition and work ethic ensure all responsibilities are completed prior to resting and lounging around, even if it means tackling the tasks head-first for hours on end with minimal breaks. his concentration is quite a feat itself, and he'll stop at nothing until he perfects a song cover or violin piece unless faced with nagging from friends or family to rest for the time being. fortunately, he's also a quick learner; most of his practice time is spent more on refining the performance than learning the notes themselves, though he won't consider himself fully satisfied until every minuscule detail has been perfected to his taste.

it's because of this why formally working with him can be both a blessing and a curse. the standards he upholds for himself have always been extremely high, and while he understands holding others to the same standard is unfair, it's inevitable that his perfectionistic tendencies will eventually slip out. sungjin's criticism doesn't come from ill intentions, though. he merely strives for the best and would like to encourage his fellow trainees and members to do the same, always happy to help with mini lessons and honest feedback. as long as a person shows genuine effort and a good attitude, sungjin will treat them with friendliness and respect no matter how much they may be struggling or falling behind. he'll also try to lighten his tone when addressing what improvements could be made, even if this kindness remains absent for criticism toward himself.

with a reputation as someone always so competent and self-reliant, it's no surprise he has a very independent nature with a pride to match, one not particularly easy to wound but still vulnerable to failure nonetheless. he's generally very civil towards any rivals or competitors but it'd also be a lie to say his pride doesn't feel a little deflated after losing, be it as small as a friendly karaoke contest or as grand as a music show award. when addressing strangers or acquaintances, he'll hold in the frustration and congratulate them sincerely, though silently hoping for another chance in the future. if it's with friends or his fellow members, however, he'll likely sulk for a few minutes—maybe even a few hours, at most—in a manner that resembles a dejected puppy according to fans.

regardless, he'll get over it eventually, likely even more invigorated to improve and become better. whether it's minor setbacks or seemingly overwhelming challenges, sungjin will tackle them all head-on, bold and unwavering, always one to inspire confidence.

Background.

there's certainly no shortage of artistic talent in the family, and perhaps this is where his own musical aptitude comes from. as the only son of a concert violinist and a professional pianist, sungjin grew up learning both instruments from the early age of four, constantly surrounded by the melodious notes of classical pieces resonating off the walls of his home in seoul. he was eventually discovered to possess absolute pitch like his mother, a rare ability to identify any musical note by ear without reference, which only served to accelerate his progress with learning the violin and piano. lessons were scheduled every week and personally taught by his parents, and though they were strict with his training, sungjin somehow didn't mind. he enjoyed the beauty of the music, the sense of satisfaction when he properly executed the notes, the expression of approval from his parents with every productive lesson.

the results proved fruitful and evident by the time he finished elementary school. however, despite exceling with both instruments for his age, it was around this year when sungjin was given the decision to prioritize one for future competitions, to which he chose with great diffulty the violin. he hadn't understood the purpose at the time why his parents presented this decision to him, in all honesty, and it wasn't until midway into his first year of middle school that he really started to understand their reasoning—homework and weekly lessons had always been manageable but his entry into the school orchestra soon introduced rehearsals that gradually packed his schedule, not to mention additional practice for recitals and solo competitions.

still, sungjin managed, or rather he excelled, driven by his love for music and growing desire to stand out from the crowd. applause from the audience fueled him and praise from his parents' colleagues pushed him to seek for more; ultimately, his ambition granted him
first chair in his school's orchestra alongside multiple awards from violin competitions, both local and national. such achievements led to his acceptance into the hanlim multi art school, where he majored in applied music for violin.

it seemed like sungjin's life was set in stone for him: graduate hanlim, graduate university with a violin performance major, and become a concert violinist. it's no wonder why he was so caught off guard when an entertainment company recruiter approached him one afternoon, almost immediately following an after school performance at hanlim. his musicality was incredible, she'd claimed, and when he thanked her for her kindness, she revealed this was not the first performance she'd seen by him before inquiring his interest towards other mediums of music. perhaps sungjin shouldn't have spent so long conversing with her, but ever the socializer, he couldn't help but feel intrigued by the information she enthusiastically shared.

he didn't respond immediately to the proposition, of course, and for some period even refrained from revealing details of the encounter to anyone except his closest friends and cousins. but, the idea of becoming an idol... what a fascinating thought it was. as did anyone else, sungjin knew what the job generally entailed, but he proceeded with countless hours and days researching the company—this... 'dal media?'—alongside their application process, audition procedures, all the technical steps in between and after. the more he contemplated, the more he found himself drawn to the new path opening before him. to be performing center stage had been what he'd always wanted, but what should he perform as? a violinist? a singer? an idol?

when sungjin finally disclosed details of the encounter with the talent scout to his parents, he was surprisingly met with less objection than predicted. though their reluctance and hesitation remained clear, they agreed to remain open to the idea with the condition that
he continued to properly pursue violin as a backup. he agreed to their terms happily.

sungjin ultimately passed his audition, though not to the outstanding vocals he'd come to hone within the following few years. sure, he'd taken a few vocal lessons prior to the auditon, but he was certain his technique likely paled in comparison to other auditionees who'd practiced for years on their voice. perhaps what won over the panel was not his vocals but rather his charisma, charming confidence, impressive musical background, and a brief but flawless live violin cover of 'introduction and rondo capriccioso' that left no room for doubt of his musicality and passion for the arts—and so, in spring 2014, sungjin officially became a dal media trainee.

Likes.

☀ coffee / iced or blended or hot, he'll drink any coffee as long as it's not too bitter. sungjin mostly enjoys coffee for the taste but will welcome the caffeine boost, as if his energy reserve isn't already endless enough.
☀ adrenaline rushes / whether it's rollercoasters or bungee jumping or paintball, he loves the thrill and will almost always attempt to drag someone to accompany him. one day he'd like to try skydiving as well.
☀ shopping / sungjin loves window shopping and buying new clothes, shoes, accessories, etc. he doesn't always make big purchases but an occasional slurge is as expected, even if he does feel slightly guilty afterward.
☀ social media / twilight's main vocalist is very active on the group's social media accounts, known for his frequent q&a sessions and singing/violin covers on twitter and vlive. the tiktoks he posts are also quite... chaotic, especially if they involve the other members.
☀ games / board games, video games, variety show games, he'll give his all to win. it makes him a valuable asset during staff-hosted challenges, and rewards like free meals and extra cash only serve as further incentive for his competitive nature.
☀ classical music / not a surprise given his upbringing, but sungjin adores classical music whether played by an individual or by an orchestra.
☀ theatrical and musical productions / sungjin absolutely loves plays and musicals and classical music performances, and would used to drag his friends and family to accompany him. the twilight members have become the newest additions to his pestering, not to mention he'll spontaneously burst into song from his favorite productions.

Dislikes.

☀ losing / he's not genuinely a sore loser... but it'd be a lie to say he wouldn't sulk a little.
☀ napping / unless they're during car rides, naps generally make him feel sluggish and unproductive afterward. if sungjin's feeling an energy slump early in the day and needs a good kick, his go-to solution is coffee.
☀ half-heartedness / sungjin hates the idea of approaching anything with minimal effort. if he wants to complete a major task or seriously learn a skill or musical piece, he'll dedicate all his time and attention to perfecting it; as a result, it's very off-putting whenever someone else approaches a major task with little effort, especially if it affects a group.
☀ dishonesty, manipulation, apathy / sungjin's love for forming bonds and connecting with others allows for his sincerity to be felt through words and actions. while his ambition ensures he's always driven to be the best, sungjin's personal satisfaction comes from his own achievements rather than from the downfalls or shortcomings of others. he considers manipulation and deceit to be cheap tricks, and while losing leaves a dent on his pride, he'd rather lose fairly than succeed through dubious means. respect and integrity have always been two of his biggest values and he'll openly express discontent towards people who lack moral and empathy.

Hobbies.

☀ watching dramas / he's a huge kdrama enthusiast and will try to stay as up-to-date as he can, at least when schedules permit. marathoning a series with the other members is considered one of his favorite group activities in the dorms, and don't be surprised if he spontaneously recites a script from popular scenes during vlives or variety shows.
☀ going to theatres and concert halls / watching live theatrical and musical performances brings joy to sungjin and even acts as a destressor. sure, viewing recorded performances online may be nice to play in the background, but having the privilege to attend one live is a completely different experience that sungjin thoroughly loves.
☀ singing and karaoke  / with vocals like his, karaoke is a must. back during his predebut days, he would drag his friends, siblings, fellow trainees, basically anyone and everyone to noraebang. though the idol life now prevents him from routinely spending afternoons and evenings at the karaoke venue, it doesn't mean he won't belt out notes in the dorms and practice rooms with those 'karaoke version' lyric videos on youtube—nor does it mean he won't attempt persuading the members to join him at a proper noraebang during one of their free days, however uncommon those may be.

Habits.

☀ inability to remain still / he has a tendency of drumming his fingers against the table, spinning in his chair during interviews, bouncing his leg, things like that. maybe it's just his excessive reverse of energy kicking in, but sungjin seems to have a hard time staying still.
☀  spontaneously singing / with a voice like that, it's no surprise that he just never... shuts up. whether it's popular mainstream tracks or lyrics from musicals, it's not uncommon at all to find him belting out notes in the shower, in the kitchen, in the car, just anywhere and everywhere.
☀ inability to hold in laughter / when people say he's loud, they mean in all aspects. his laugh is no exception and what makes it even worse is that he has trouble containing it. even catching side glances and knowing looks from the members during interviews or award shows has him cracking a smile, and if there's ever a 'try not to laugh' challenge, he's practically doomed to fail first.
☀ removing his earpiece during live performances / like many other singers, sungjin has a habit of loosening or removing his earpiece before hitting very high notes live, primarily to hear the crowd’s reactions and feel the atmosphere in the concert.

Fears.

☀ ghosts / not that he'd ever voice it, of course. sungjin would rather make himself suffer by attempting to prove his bravery than admit he's scared of anything remotely horror, as if it already obvious by the slight crack in his voice or the subtle tremor of his frame.
☀ blood / his fear of blood isn't drastic enough to make him faint, but it's definitely enough for his complexion to visibly pale at the sight of any red liquid resembling blood.
☀ failure / on a more serious note, as much as sungjin's optimism and growth have convinced him that choosing the idol career was the correct path, the immense weight of his decision remains lingering at the back of his mind. it'd been a huge gamble, choosing to tred a new path when everyone including himself had thought one was already laid before him... but, he's hopeful, and he's excited for what the future's to bring. becoming an idol doesn't mean he has to give up violin entirely either—if anything, it's a compromise, the best of both worlds, or at least that's how he views it. as intimidating as the uncertain future may be, sungjin doesn't regret dedicating the past six years to his idol training, and he certainly hopes that fortune smiles upon twilight for their debut and what's to come.

Special Talents.

☀ absolute pitch / the ability to identify any musical note by ear without reference, similar to his mom. not only can he identify the note, but he can also recreate it either through his voice or his violin. it's likely thanks to absolute pitch that sungjin's voice improved at such an impressive speed after joining dal media. some people say he has it easy and in truth, even he agrees—but his improvement also came with endless hours of hard work and dedication, and if he's sacrificed so much time and effort then surely it'd be a shame to not show off just a little, no?
☀ violin / the love of his life, or so everyone seems to tease. the one he owns now is the same one he's had since middle school, and with such difficulty parting from his violin, it now sits in all its glory in his room. and no, he doesn't have a name for it... (nobody believes him though).
☀ piano / another instrument he's quite adept with. while sungjin had chosen to focus on the other, he still practiced the piano for years so he's not at all rusty—it's just nowhere near the proficiency of his violin skills.
☀ k-drama trivia knowledge / sungjin's arsenal of k-drama knowledge is commonly displayed on shows and during games, from naming the cast to reciting quotes and acting out scenes.
☀ crying at will / he's able to force himself to cry, and when asked how, he states it's by remembering the saddest scenes in 'goblin'.

Additional trivia.

☀ favorite color / red
☀ favorite season / autumn
☀ favorite brand / dior
☀ favorite food / baked lobster tail
☀ favorite drink / iced caramel macchiato
☀ favorite music genre / ballads
☀ favorite composer / saint-saëns

☀ mbti / enfj-a (the protagonist)
☀ harry potter house / gryffindor
☀ representative emoji / sun emoji '
☀️'
☀ education / he attended hanlim multi art school where he majored in applied music for violin. by 2020, he graduated with a university degree similarly in applied music with empahsis on violin performance.
☀ alternate job / in an alternate universe where he isn't an idol or a violinist, he'd like a job in international public relations.
☀ dorm life / overall sungjin is very neat and tidy, never leaves too much of a mess—at least not for long. sure, his attempts at cooking may be a little... chaotic... but in general he likes keeping the dorm and his side of the room organized and clean.
☀ designated driver / well, one of many in the group. he got his license at the age of 17 but doesn't have a personal car, though he used to occasionally take his mom's sedan.
☀ pets / sungjin never had pets growing up because his parents never allowed him to, but his close cousin sangmi adopted a pomeranian puppy from her friend about a year ago. the pomeranian's name is alle and sungjin spoils the pup with treats and attention whenever he visits.
☀ spice tolerance / he can't eat spicy food for his life, but will that stop him from trying? absolutely not.
☀ tearjerker / when it comes to sad movies, he absolutely cries easily. not even misty-eyed but actual trails of tears. as one can imagine, this often subjects him to teasing from the members.
☀ casual gamer / by no means is he a skilled gamer, but sungjin is at least decent with competitive multiplayer games like pubg, overwatch, and valorant. he also enjoys heavy storyline-focused series like resident evil, detroit: become human, outlast, and the last of us (or at least... the first one). for someone who hates anything remotely scary, horror games are his guilty pleasure—even if he is screaming and jumping out of his seat every ten or so minutes.
☀ failing with confidence / what makes sungjin so meme-worthy is he's sometimes way too confident for his own good. for example, he's never been an amazing athlete but is extremely competitive and likes looking good—he'd be the embodiment of the type of person who holds a basketball and goes 'this one's for you' before completely missing the shot.

Relationships.

ha youngsoo and kim sunhee.
parents ; professional pianist and concert violinist.

as the only child, sungjin will forever and always be their baby, no matter how strict they may have been with his upbringing, no matter how much he proves time and time again his independence and maturity into adulthood. the respect sungjin holds for them remains unfaltering, mirroring the adoration they hold for him. both pre-debut and after, though schedules may prove an obstacle, he actively keeps in contact with phone calls and texts, and when time permits he'll take a trip back home. on one or two occasions he's even surprised them at the concert halls where they perform, melodious notes resonating throughout the auditorium, a bouquet of fresh carnations cradled within his arms.

ha sangmi.
1998 ; cousin ; university student (applied music - piano).
fc: choi yena.

seeing that they lived within ten minutes of each other and had always attended the same school, sangmi and sungjin were each other's closest friends and practically inseparable. like most of their family, sangmi was gifted with music from a young age and often performed with sungjin at recitals, competitions, and art festivals as his piano accompanist. the pair had also enrolled into hanlim together with sungjin majoring with applied music in violin and sangmi with applied music in piano. as his most trusted confidante, she naturally became the first person to hear sungjin had been scouted by an entertainment company recruiter and listened to all his musings, even aiding him in his research as sungjin began to genuinely contemplate the idea.

'of course i'd support you,' she'd laughed after sungjin uncharacteristically expressed his gratitude to her the day after he revealed the details to his parents. 'whether or not we're on the same stage, you were born to perform. now quit being so sappy, it feels weird.'

needless to say, a part of him feels in debt to her for always being there for him, cheerful and supportive, even if she did at any available opportunity. they still keep in contact of course, and to say sangmi is an avid fan of twilight would be an understatement.

willow wen.
1994 ; sister figure ; member of twilight.
fc: wjsn's wu xuanyi.

his fellow enfp and gryffindor-aligned= member—it's no wonder why they get along so well. she is the older sister he's never had, and if anyone can get sungjin under control when he's being a little too unruly, it's definitely willow, as he'd feel nothing but guilt should he ever disappointed or upseted her. if asked what he admired most about twilight's eldest member, he wouldn't know where to begin. her positivity and lovable personality? her incredible rapping talent and performance skills? it's a miracle that willow can actually keep sungjin's energy in check... though, just a small secret? sungjin definitely enjoys getting babied by her.

gu dalhee.

fc: loona's jeon heejin.
collab with @rojeulite!

his platonic other half and partner in crime, undoubtedly the closest companion he's made since joining dal media. though dalhee initially joined as a foreign trainee, the initial language barrier was no match for sungjin's outgoing nature and the power of translator apps, and before long they became each other's teachers of their respective languages, with sungjin teaching hangul to dalhee and the latter returning the favor with conversational english and slang. with time their friendship became more comfortable, and sure enough, the duo became infamous both pre-debut and after not only thanks to their awe-inspiring duets, but also for their seemingly endless (playflul) bickering. later on, sungjin is also motified to discover that perhaps she also knows him better than he knows himself—it is actually dalhee who first senses sungjin's strange... development... towards youngho, and rather than disapproval of his feelings towards her former crush, he is met with much support and much more teasing than deemed healthy for his heart—especially when dalhee decides to be playfully mean and cuts it a little too close, with said leader standing only barely a few meters away.

moon jehyung.
1999 ; rivals ; member of twilight.
fc: soloist park jihoon.
collab with @lilacyouths!

for a duo who matches each other's charisma and wit, the two couldn’t be more different. it’s precisely this why they constantly clashed heads both as trainees and as debuting idols, even multiple times nearly escalating into a physical fight if it hadn't been for the watchful eyes of the senior trainees. their tense relationship stems not from jealousy towards jehyung's privileged background or anything of the sorts, but rather from sungjin's distaste with the former's insincere nature and cold demeanor, seemingly lacking any hint of empathy—and sungjin calls him out for it, which only serves to worsen their already existing bad blood. in the eyes of the public they're known as the tom and jerry of twilight, because they're both capable of acting somewhat civil before fans and the press. yet even so, their bickering never ceases. but, sungjin does have to admit that they make a formidable team when it comes to games and challenges... and if one day they somehow resolve their conflicts and jehyung proves himself capable of human emotions, sungjin will be happy to forget their conflict-ridden past.

xu huxiao.
1999 ; relation ; member of twilight.
fc: su ruiqi.
collab with @lilacyouths!

sungjin and huxiao are an unexpected comedic duo, a 'dumb and dumber' pairing who struggles with the most mundane tasks like cooking ramen but suddenly regains all abilities when it comes to causing chaos. their friendship has been strong since pre-debut days when sungjin first joined dal media as a trainee, likely due to his openness to help her with korean. later on as sungjin gradually improved his vocals, he was happy to teach her his techniques in addition to providing honest feedback and eager demonstrations. it wouldn't be a lie to say they got distracted more often than not, and even now in twilight, just one shared glance between them could prompt a sudden fit of stifled giggles. all in all, sungjin appreciates huxiao as a beloved friend... but if there's any flaw she possesses, it would be her terrible taste in men (read: jehyung).

twilight.
2020 ; rookie idol group ; found family.

the bashful: as the group's main vocalists, sungjin and the bashful are a force to be reckoned with both onstage and off. the two of them became acquainted early into their trainee years due to their shared areas of expertise, and as a result were likely to have worked with each other more often compared to with other trainees. sungjin wholeheartedly appreciates the bashful for her hard work and humble nature, and knowing certain situations may make her uncomfortable, he's always willing to hop in and steer the conversation away for her.

the visual: sungjin holds nothing but respect for the visual, as the latter's push to make a name for himself beyond handsome features is nothing short of commendable. it must be tiring hearing endless praises of one's appearance rather than for their perseverence and talent; though the two may not have been close during their trainee days, sungjin would be more than happy to offer assistance when it comes to singing techniques and practice.

the youngest: sungjin either spoils the youngest with affection or leaves them to fend on their own with no exceptions in-between. either way, he's often commented as being a terrible influence on the maknae given his rowdiness and fun-seeking nature, and if there's any opportunity to drag the youngest with him, one can bet he wouldn't waste it. despite sungjin being a part of the elder line, nobody trusts him to babysit the younger members and for good reason, because everything is fun and giggles until something almost catches on fire—just ask willow and youngho.

Stage Name. sungjin / in his eye, there's no need for him to take on any alias other than his name. sure, he may not be the only sungjin in the industry, but he's confident in his ability to make a title for himself as the one and only, twilight's ha sungjin.
Plotline. the boisterous (the free)

Vocal Twin. ateez's choi jongho (seventeen's dk)
Dance Twin. ateez's choi jongho (golden child's jangjun)

Trainee years. six years.

Trainee Life.

with nearly nonexistent vocal experience other than maybe three months of lessons before his audition, sungjin entered dal media as a trainee whose acceptance was almost solely based on his potential to learn. some would argue this placed him at a slight disadvantage, as he had no vocal, rap, or dance background when most other trainees had spent years developing such skills; yet some would instead argue sungjin had it easy with his absolute pitch, an ability that soon proved pivotal to not only helping him overcome the learning curve, but also with accelerating his progress at remarkable speed. the misspoken lyrics and broken vocal exercises that marked the beginning of his training period eventually evolved into beautifully executed riffs and runs and mesmerizing covers, the birth and growth of a future high note powerhouse.

of course, however remarkable his learning speed may have been, it was still a while before sungjin could fully deem himself worthy of a main vocalist title. it brought him great satisfaction though to eventually become someone who younger and less experienced trainees seeked out over the years when they needed mini lessons, demonstrations, and feedback on their technique. in combination with his friendly nature, sungjin's eagerness to help made him well-liked and respected especially among new recruits as he grew to become their friend and reliable brother figure.

but, as all know, becoming an idol entails more than singing. sungjin also has to give credit where it's due for while his absolute pitch undoubtedly aided him with his vocal improvement, it did nothing to aid his dancing skills. as swift of a learner as he was, this level of whole-body coordination was completely foreign to him, and in all honesty he would've struggled much more had he not been met with kindness from trainees who specialized in dance—and to his joy, it was actually with one of these trainees who joined him in the official debut line-up not only as a member, but also as twilight's appointed leader.

all in all, sungjin's six years at dal media meant he grew up surrounded by those sharing the same aspiration. though it's sad that most of his friends in the company would not be able to debut alongside him, there are some who will, and to say that sungjin is grateful for them would not even graze the surface of the admiration he holds for his new found family.

☀ "twilight's sungjin praised by singing in the rain musical cast for amazing cover" / in a clip from one of his vlives, sungjin unofficially performed a reenactment of a scene from popular musical 'singing in the rain'. there was no rain involved, of course, though he did throw in an umbrella for fun. fans didn't know what was more impressive—his versatile voice or the way he had watched the musical so often that he'd memorized most of that choreography. clearly, sungjin has had no formal musical theatre training so the performance was more of a treat to fans than a serious cover, but somehow the video gained enough traction to garner attention from the official theatrical cast, whom sungjin later thanked for their kindness.

☀ "twilight's sungjin spotted at charity concert with family" + "fans of twilight celebrate sungjin's birthday with massive charity donation"   / likely occurs some time after their debut and rise in stardom. the project idea supposedly first sparked when sungjin was spotted with family at a charity orchestra concert to support the youth with hearing impairments. fortunately his appearance didn't amass a crowd until after the event concluded, and he was able to safely leave the premise with his parents and close relatives. both as an apology for the commotion and as commemoration for his next birthday, fans hosted a successful celebration by donating a huge sum to the organization that the concert had aimed to support, to which sungjin and his family matched a portion of as gratitude for their generosity.

SHIN  YOUNGHO .

Name. shin youngho

Backup. tba if needed!

Personality.

your app describes him best!

Love Story.

youngho and sungjin work as a balancing act—one gentle and soft-spoken, the other a ball of endless chaotic energy. youngho's patience is certainly an impressive feat if it means being capable of tolerating sungjin for the past six years, for despite his seniority, their similar roles as dependable leader-like figures during their predebut days made sungjin view him more as a same-age friend than anything else. the two weren't the closest pair of trainees in terms of relationship but they did get along well, and in a sense sungjin even feels in debt to the older who'd helped him learn basic dance moves and choreography at the beginning of his inexperienced trainee career. even when the reveal of twilight's official line-up meant many of sungjin's close trainee friends would not perform alongside him in the future, he was happy that an individual as selfless and diligent as youngho would.

though, the same probably can't be said by the other given how much secondhand embarrassment and grief sungjin's probably given his new leader. living together now meant subjecting all the members to sungjin's thunderous volume, spontaneous singing fits, and absolutely chaotic shenanigans; and as tolerant as youngho may be, even the most serene soul would question whatever the hell was fueling sungjin's energy and antics.

as if that isn't enough, sungjin's also a terrible influence on the younger members, acting as their hype man and noisily cheering them on even when their ideas are dubious at best. it doesn't help that willow seems to be the only one who manages to keep sungjin under control, as he views her as the older sister he's never had and would subsequently never want to upset. but youngho on the other hand? simply put, sungjin's antics usually result in a sigh of resignation from the older, if not, accompanied by the fleeting plea of mercy to whatever deity will successfully force sungjin to behave. the fact that youngho even once genuinely considered the bashful's suggestion to keep sungjin on a leash (not a pet one, but like those monkey backpacks with a safety harness made for kids) is quite... concerning.

all in all, do the two get along? absolutely, they're great friends and even each other's skinship and fanservice buddy. but that doesn't mean youngho's completely guilty-free of wishing sungjin was a little bit more mindful of his volume and absolutely terrible influence on the others.

the romantic aspect of their relationship doesn't actually develop until months after debut, and it certainly doesn't emerge with an abrupt bang or sudden explosion of fireworks—not all at once, at least. if one were to ask sungjin, he himself couldn't offer an answer as to why or when it all began; all he knew was that he'd always enjoyed spending time with youngho, even teasing and messing with him for hopes of evoking a reaction of exasperation, and somewhere along the line he found himself purposely seeking more and more of the older's attention

sungjin wonders at what point he became absolutely hopeless for youngho because as time passes, what once was casual skinship has somehow turned into fleeting touches, what once was their comfortably platonic firendship has turned into lingering gazes and knowing smiles and ambiguously borderlining flirty comments. did youngho somehow sense the change in their relationship, or was sungjin just overanalyzing and misinterpreting their interactions because of wishful thinking?

the ambiguity is driving him up the wall, and for once, the always confident young man is now inwardly plagued by his lack of answers. but, there's absolutely no way he's asking for clarification from his group leader, because there's no way youngho would know, right?

(poor sungjin. whether by self-awareness or by insight from another member, youngho absolutely knows.)

Status. group members / friends / slow-burn.

Ending statuswould love a happy ending, but i don't mind if their relationship is secret or public. ultimately up to you!

Trivia

playlist / seventeen's 'very nice'. the boyz's 'thrill ride'. chuu's 'heart attack'. txt's 'poppin star'. nct dream's 'anl'. nct's 'all about you'.

sungjin's love language is acts of service. while he generally treats someone he's interested in the same manner he'd treat others, sungjin will go above and beyond to help with small tasks like cleaning, preparing meals, retrieving groceries, just anything that would maybe be useful to alleviate some stress and bring a smile to the other's features. it's especially evident with youngho, for countless responsibilities weigh on his shoulders as twilight's leader.

though it takes time before sungjin develops feelings for their leader, eventually he'll really start going out of his way to do things that might make youngho's life a little easier. if anything, there comes a point when he's become a little too eager. perhaps this strange enthusiasm is what starts raising suspicion among the members.

youngho was one of the trainees who helped sungjin with his dancing during their predebut days. they've developed a close relationship since then, and both became known as dependable leader-like, brotherly figures to younger trainees, especially with their respective specialties.

funnily enough, youngho is actually sangmi's (sungjin's cousin's) bias. she light-heartedly bugs sungjin for youngho's autography every other week, maybe even pleads him to hook her up with youngho merch and album inclusions. sungjin wonders how she'd react to finding out her cousin's developed a rather embarrassing crush on her bias, or rather, his own group member. and her reaction to them dating...? 'no, no, that's enough daydreaming' sungjin thinks... even if a teeny, tiny smidge of hope betrays him.

#youngsung is one of the most common ships among the fandom, primarily because of youngho's commendable patience (or maybe just... tolerance) in dealing with sungjin's shenanigans. their mutual liking towards skinship helps as well, with youngho being sungjin's go-to partner for fanservice—it'd be too scandalous to do anything excessive with the girls, and the youngest members? he's like their brotherly figure. fans comment their complementary representative emojis too: a sun and a sunflower, a main vocalist and his leader.

sungjin loves buying matching items whether it's clothes, bracelets, necklaces, phone cases, etc. he usually gives the other item to one of the members he's close to (including but not limited to youngho), but if the two end up together, sungjin would reserve almost all the couple items for the older.

☀ #youngsung duet subunit? / jus2's 'focus on me'? ten and taeyong's 'baby don't stop' is also another option, though it might be too dance-heavy for sungjin. twilight's main dancer and main vocalist though, talk about a power duo!
☀ twilight's reality shows / twilight having a reality series similar to seventeen's 'one fine day' where they have to fulfill certain missions to win rewards would be fun! a travel series that follow them on an overseas vacation trip like in bts's 'bon voyage' show would be nice too, especially as a way to celebrate their debut anniversaries in the future!
