謝舒淇

BIRTHNAME Tse Shu Kei (謝舒淇)

OTHER NAMES Shuki Tse

NICKNAMES

Ah mui! (啊妹!); As the younger sister of the family, her parents never seem to call her by name, but just simply yell out "lil' sis!" in Cantonese.
✩ Siu Kei (小淇); Her relatives, as well as her good friends, like to affectionately call her "little Kei".
✩ Kiki; A nickname derived from her English name, but not many people use it much aside from Shuki herself when she comes up with usernames on the internet.

✩ Aiko (アイコ); Her Japanese alias for her online persona, which fans of her Youtaite & VTuber content use. There's no real reason why Shuki chose this alias aside from liking the "Ai" (love) part of the name + it sounds different enough from her real name.

BIRTHDATE 26/01/1998; 21 y/o as of 2019

BIRTHPLACE Hong Kong

ETHNICITY Chinese

NATIONALITY Hong Kongese
LANGUAGES

✩ Cantonese--native; speaks at home
Japanese--fluent; she self-studied since she was 13
✩ Mandarin--semi-fluent; picked it up from school & her C-drama phase when she was 9-12 y/o before she got completely into anime
✩ English--conversational; learnt at school but Shuki was never really too interested in the language, and nor was she ever great at it in the first place ^^;; (her English is heavily laced with the Cantonese accent and tbh, she can't be bothered at this point)
✩ Korean--conversational; Shuki is currently diligently studying the Korean language, and even though she does have an accent to the way she speaks at the moment, throughout her time on PD101 she improves exponentially

FACECLAIM Leung Cheuk Ying

BACKUP FACECLAIM Kimberley Chen

HEIGHT 157cm
WEIGHT 50kg

APPEARANCE Not much alterations face-wise from the faceclaims, minus Shuki having more fuller, rounder lips (think Joy from Red Velvet). She may not have the sharpest V-line or the most obvious double eyelids, but Shuki radiates a gentle, natural beauty that eventually leaves an impression on people. Her large forehead used to be a complex for her, but she doesn't bother to hide with bangs due to practicality reasons, so now she just has a middle part instead.

Body-wise, she's on the thick end compared to Korean standards, but most of her weight is concentrated on her bust area (her size is comparable with G.NA's ^^;;), which more often than not frustrates her + makes excessive dancing a little difficult. Despite her short height as well, she is well-proportioned, boasting long, shapely legs compared to her torso height.

A physical abnormality that makes her stand out from the rest is her left arm, which is fully covered with thick scarring reaching to the back of her left hand as a result of a childhood burn accident. Surrounding her both thighs, there are also rectangular scar marks left off from the skin graft surgery that was needed to replace the damaged skin on her arm at the time of the accident. Throughout the duration of the show, she tries to keep both areas covered as much as possible.

FASHION STYLE Her usual dress style classy & flowy, and is definitely more conservative than the norm. For obvious reasons, many of her outfits either involve long sleeves or a single sleeve, asymmetrical style. If it's a T-shirt or sleeveless she has to wear, she will blatantly wear long sleeved gloves, or just the left one if it's really too hot. She loves face masks to hide her face too, but if ever management tells her to take it off, she'll happily oblige. Just not the sleeves. She has multiple sleeves to choose from to match whatever outfit she wears.

Stockings too, if she wears shorts/skirts she'll at least wear some sheer skin-coloured stockings to protect her thighs too. All this additional layering may make her more easily hot after a round of dancing, but as much as she can keep it hidden in case she gets booted off from her idol dreams, she'll endure it.

PERSONALITY

(+) easygoing, cheerful, energetic, introspective, emotionally mature, able to see thing from all perspectives, keen to learn, resilient

(-) Not very confident, dependant on people yet tends to hide/isolate herself from others too, poor time management when alone, no competitive drive for herself, sensitive to criticism, communicates indirectly/in a wishy-washy way, prone to guilt

ELABORATION Shuki's personality overall is balanced & pleasant--not too shy that she ends up being severely inhibited, but not too loud either that she becomes obnoxious. She is sociable with others, very composed, is highly responsible in group situations (emphasis: group situations, otherwise she is ridiculously slack herself when left alone) and has a way with words, which she can easily express her deep thoughts with provided that she has an adequate grasp of the language. She is a quick learner who, if she's found something she's highly passionate about, she is able to pour all her focus & effort to it. Unfortunately, this also means that for the less pleasant tasks of everyday life and other practicalities, she has a bad habit of putting things off until it gets too unbearable (which you can tell by the not-so-clean state of her bedroom back at home). Her quick learning abilities mean that she tends to take advantage of her ability to procrastinate, sometimes landing herself in trouble for taking too much time than necessary to complete just one thing. There have been times in her life where this has become a vicious cycle of failure + disappointment leading to discouragement + self-loathe, and this procrastination is part of the reason why. But luckily her 'down' moments never last too long, as she always finds comfort in relying on her friends & family. Before you know it, she will be doing things for people around her again, and functioning like a decent human.

One may argue she's a bit too dependent on others in this regard, for she seems to be lost without people in her life to push her on, and so sometimes in order to *seem* independent, she will seclude herself. It never really works out in the end.

She tries her best to separate emotions from her thoughts in order not to have clouded judgment, so she is never the type who will suddenly burst into irrational anger. Her ability to be calm is something she prides herself in, and even if there is tension going on, her method of attack is to not give in to emotional reactions at all, but just remain cold & stern.

But typically, Shuki has the desire to want to befriend everybody, to love & care for everyone, hence why she always takes on the peacemaker role. Growing up, she was always the one whom peers would go to for advice, and she's used to being the 'counsellor'. That's why, deep at heart, she does have an air of melancholy to her from the burden no one has asked her to carry except for herself, but she always hides it with her cheerful energy instead. If Shuki were to be honest with herself, this facade is often forced from within, especially in the presence of other people in the room. She doesn't exactly know whereabouts the pressure to always be happy comes from, but it instinctively kicks in when she is aware people are watching her. Subconsciously, Shuki likes to 'clown it up' in order to distract others from pitying her when they find out her story as a burn survivor. This is also another reason why she seeks for time alone--in order to recuperate.

She never acknowledges herself as 'wise', for she believes she still has much to learn. Sometimes, she can get a bit too humble for her own good in this regard--she's always aiming for something higher in terms of personal development rather than anything else external. This trait of always wanting to push forward though, is something that can benefit her, because regardless of how difficult a situation may be, her early childhood has taught her that she can overcome it, that bad times don't last forever, and that she is grateful to be alive.

Even though Shuki is shy with attention and as much as she tries to hide in the background, in one way or another she still manages to catch people's attention unintentionally. One can compare her to an uncontainable ball of light that cannot be dimmed, although it might take some time for Shuki to acknowledge that herself.

(Her personality as Aiko the VTuber, on the other hand, is a lot more chaotic and boisterous lol, and she really lets loose through her VTuber platform. She is completely comfortable & relaxed in herself as Aiko; she likes to have fun, joke around + her innocent, prim & proper appearance is contradicted by her little potty mouth especially when gaming. Very high in energy, she is known for her gigglish laughter, and she is less shy about her singing as Aiko.)

BACKGROUND Shuki was born & raised entirely in Hong Kong, spending most of her life in the North District area of the New Territories. This region is relatively quiet & laidback compared to the crowded hustle bustle Hong Kong is most known for in the south, and Shuki had an extremely ordinary & modest upbringing, nothing to boast about. Her mother works as a government secretary, and her father is absent most of the time as he is often too busy doing business up in Shenzhen nearby, crossing the border between China & Hong Kong. Shuki's brother, who is 7 years older than her, moved to Australia to study since 2007. He is now an engineer, and married with a child on the way.

Shuki spent most of her life as a burn survivor, having slipped arms-first into a bathtub of water freshly boiled from the kitchen after their usual hot water supply was suddenly cut off one winter night in 2002. Much of her complex comes from the physical aftermath of the ordeal, as she has been highly aware since young that she is a little different compared to everyone else because of how she looks. This is also the reason why around 8th grade, when she discovered about the existence of utaites who anonymously make vocal covers of her favourite Japanese songs under an anime persona, she thought hiding under a 2D identity is much better (+ more realistic!) than being a K-pop idol, which the latter was what her childhood bestfriend was dreaming to be back then.

But singing wasn't something Shuki did much of back then, nor was it her first exposure to music. Growing up, Shuki was more known for her piano skills, which was something her parents got her to pick up a year after her burn accident in 2003, partly in order to improve her limb function but also, Shuki was found to be gifted in detecting pitch when she was caught playing some tunes she would often hear from TV on her brother's keyboard. Unlike other kids, Shuki was never forced into piano lessons, so she ended up developing a strong passion for music. All thoughout her years growing up, every time she saw a piano in a shopping mall or some other public place, she would immediately run towards it to have a jam. She eventually completed grade 8 level piano in secondary school and made her first job teaching kids piano too.

Singing, on the other hand, was something she's always wanted to do, but was simply waaay too shy to do so on stage. The only kind of singing she did prior to her involvement with the international utaite community on Youtube (A.K.A 'Youtaite') in 2013 was during family karaoke + with her K-pop idol wannabe bestfriend. After her first few uploads on her Youtube channel as Aiko, she started gaining some traction, especially as she started to collaborate with other fellow Youtaites, and not to mention she was one of the rare few Youtaites who sung Cantonese versions she made herself of the most popular Vocaloid songs. The recognition she got as a Youtaite helped a lot to instill some form of self-confidence in her.

Her relationship with K-pop has been a bit funny since the beginning unitl now. Of course, thanks to her bestfriend, she knew K-pop quite early, around 2009-2010. But because of said bestfriend, Shuki used to 'hate' K-pop when she was younger because she thought it was overrated. But over the years, she gradually warmed up to it, becoming a fan of bands such as 2NE1 and Infinite. But her primary focus was still on Japanese music. After she graduated high school, she decided to pursue a modest career in nursing in hopes of giving back to the healthcare industry that took care of her so well when she was younger. Whilst juggling her second life on Youtube, she studied a 2 yr diploma straight after graduation and found herself a position as a nurse in hospital, only to regrettably find out that the job itself is a lot more stressful that she was prepared for. After a medication error incident, Shuki has completely lost all confidence as a nurse. But the PD101 auditions came about just in time for her to redeem herself in a completely new field she'd never thought she would actually consider before...the K-pop world.

It was a rather impulsive decision on her part, but she sent in her audition purely for the lols at first, curious to see if her vocals would fit the K-pop standard. When she realised she actually got in, however, she freaked. Considering that the thought of exposing her real self with her scars to the public is very intimidating for Shuki at first, she was hesitant. She even doubted that she could ever be a K-pop star with her kind of appearance. But she was quickly losing hope in her nursing career + her heart for music outweighs her worries.

Her parents, who have no idea about Shuki's internet activities (+ still don't understand it till this day), were initially opposed to the idea of Shuki ditching her previous career to become a K-pop idol, thinking that it is not a sustainable job compared to nursing. But when they found out Shuki had already been accepted in the audition before she had the talk with them, they had no other say over their adult daughter anyway. It didn't take too long for them to accept her new path. And Shuki herself, at least, was fundamentally interested to become a trainee to build up her experience more professionally. Whether she gets into the final group or not is just a bonus; Shuki tries not to be so ambitious for it out of fear of disappointing herself again.

RELATIONSHIPS

Because Shuki is coming onto the show by herself, there won't be many significant relationships that will contribute much to her character development during the story. Of course, her family + relatives are mainly supportive of Shuki participating on the show, since it's so big!

But the one who got Shuki into all of this in the first place is her childhood bestie since primary school, Li On Yi A.K.A Onyx. Of course, when she first found out Shuki will be on PD101, she was hella excited, yet also lowkey jealous, because Shuki's literally living out her childhood dream. Regardless, she is genuinely super supportive of Shuki. She & Shuki are like yin & yang. Whilst Onyx is more assertive & loud, Shuki is the cool cucumber of the duo. Onyx is currently a makeup staff, mainly working on-set in the TVB studios.

In the Youtaite community-wise, Shuki is most well-known for being a member of Noxalbion, a Hong Kong-based Youtaite group/unit specialised in making  vocal covers of anime songs, Vocaloid + other related Japanese music. Through connections & working on previous collaborations prior to the group being formed,  they banded up in 2017 and made a name for themselves within the community. Full of unique yet talented vocalists, members include (in age order):

 Mokkun (vocals; '95-liner)

Big brother of the group, but also: tired old man

 CC (vocals, animator; '97-liner)

Big sister of the group, carries the entire group on her back tbh

♀ Shuki herself as Aiko (vocals, mixer; '98-liner)

The only reason why Noxalbion sounds good together.

 Winnie (vocals, artist/colour; '98-liner)

voice af, makes us come alive with her adorableness + beautiful shading

 Aramis (vocals; '99-liner)

Screamo lord who's unafraid to sacrifice his sacred throat for our projects

 Fish (vocals, artist/lineart; '00-liner)

Baby little bro, he makes us all look on point every time

They have a LINE groupchat & a Discord server together where they chat, submit their files + stream together, so they are quite close knit at this point. Since all have seen Shuki in-person before (they've gathered as an entire group to celebrate Fish's 18th birthday previously), out of everyone in the Youtaite community she has only told her Noxalbion members that she will be taking hiatus because of PD101, which they were super excited for her.

STAGENAME Shuki (슈키)

POSITION Vocals

TRAINEE LIFE She received no proper training prior to coming on PD101. Most of her skills is self-taught via observation from other artists & Youtube videos for the technicalities. This has been built up since her young teens years.

IDOL LIFE She's not exactly an idol either. Yes, she may be well-known for her affiliation with Noxalbion but that is under her Aiko persona, and at the time of applying for PD101, she never once mentioned anything about her Youtaite/VTuber activities--she just simply said she makes singing covers on Youtube. Prior to her moving to Korea, she just simply announced publicly that she will be taking an indefinite hiatus to focus on her real life career, but while she is away, she will be preparing something extra special for the fans when she returns.

LIFE ON PRODUCE 101 Her identity as Aiko eventually gets found out pretty quickly after the broadcast of the 1st episode, since there were some fans who coincidentally watched PD101 too + were sus at Shuki at the similarities she shares with Aiko, from her voice to her Hong Kong background to her fluency in Japanese. The dots were easy to connect for them.

Throughout her time in PD101, she does gain some recognition because of her singing skill, but also there were flaws that were made known to her for the first time, including her untrained dance skills and poor stamina. So yes, she got to realise what were the areas she needs improvement in with the help of the mentors' proper training. She's a bit shy in approaching people to talk to out on a whim, but in group settings when working on preparing for performances, her cooperativeness and helpful, considerate nature makes it easy for her to get along with others.

There might be some conflict somewhere along the road, with people wondering why is Shuki always seen with a single long arm sleeve regardless of the temperature, or the secretiveness behind what she was doing prior to PD101.

OPINIONS ON THE MENTORS

Her knowledge about the mentors are limited, minus knowing Jaekyung from Rainbow, and Cheetah as a badass rapper whom she both admires + is afraid of at the same time! And of course, Minzy. Shuki is most excited for Minzy overall, since she was her favourite 2NE1 member back then. Her childhood bestfriend, who introduced her to K-pop, was a massive YG stan, and anything 2NE1-related brings Shuki back to her junior high/middle school days.

THE AUDITION Her audition song is the Korean version of the song Super Love by the Australian singer Dami Im. Shuki chose the song as she feels it best showcases her vocals, and also because her brother in Australia, who is a fan of Dami, introduced her music to Shuki. Shuki's outfit during the audition is a powerful red dress of this certain style (click), with sheer black stockings and red stilettos highlighting her shapely legs. No one really batted an eyelid at the covered arm since it's part of the look.

Prior to the audition performance, Shuki was very nervous, for this will be her first time performing live with her real face on full display. But she had been practicing hard to get every detail right for a while, so she manages to enter the stage calmly with feigned confidence. Everyone at first is absolutely blown away by her high range & power vibrato, accidentally thinking that she must be an established soloist already. No one really expected her to possess lungs, since on the outside she just looks like some cutesy but ordinary girl. Some were shocked that she is an independant trainee who never received proper training from a company, some criticised that she barely showed any dance skills. When asked to show her dance, Shuki quickly gets shy & awkward because she is unprepared, but in a comedic twist of events + some quick thinking, she suddenly vocalises the intro to 2NE1's I Am The Best', getting the audience to clap/stomp their feet to create the beat as Shuki sings the "naega jeil jal naga" part on repeat, audience eventually singing after her. She breaks into the dance in front of Minzy as soon as the "bam ratata" bit hits, showing that she is capable of dancing powerfully with charisma.

Of course, overall though, there is an evident gap between Shuki's vocals and dance.

FIRST MISSION SONG Shuki's preference for the mission songs will be:

1. 4minute's Volume Up (Shuki /loves/ this song ever since the time of the song's release, and she lowkey loves the long note belting parts cause that means she doesn't have to move as much xD)

2. Secret's Poison (She wants to prioritise challenging herself with the y concept over being cutesy, which she is also 100% capable of pulling off too! Shuki definitely can pull off Hyosung's outfits in the MV with her kind of figure)

3. Rainbow's Sunshine (Not her top preference, but she has no problems doing this song)

4. B1A4's Beautiful Target (Shuki knows this song already from the beginning, but she cringes every time she hears it. It's not like she hates doing boyband songs, but she'd rather pull off the cool boyband concept rather than.....this)

SEAT NUMBERS & PREDICTED RANK Shuki absolutely HATES this part of the segment, because as much as she wishes to get a place in the final group, she lacks the self-confidence + is too modest for her own good. In the end, she is found hovering over the 40's seats, settling for 47 as her minimum standard. Because of her subpar dance skills, she thinks she will realistically get C.

HELLO THERE, SHUKI, WOULD YOU MIND TELLING ME WHAT YOU SEE AS YOUR STRENGTH FOR BEING AN IDOL? "Hmm...I guess you can say my vocals are my strength?" she answers shyly, but grows more confident as she continues to explain. "I just love music, and I want to convey that joy of music to other people as an idol. Whether that is expressing this through singing, or the visual elements of dance, maybe even through the power behind rap, combined together, you get something that touches the heart, or at least...makes even a small little impact on the hearts of those who listen to K-pop."

WHAT IS THE CONCEPT YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF THE BEST AT? "I personally try to be open to trying out as many concepts as possible, since I think I'm still trying to figure out my own style right now, hehe."

IS THERE ANYTHING NEW YOU WANT TO TRY ON THE SHOW? "Just by me appearing on stage as myself in this show will be something new I've never done before...but I do want to try many things, as much as possible. I want to explore a new side of me."

HOW DO YOU SEE PRODUCE 101? "It's a big opportunity! The destination might not be too clear at the moment, but I'll go wherever it'll eventually lead me. I'll just try my very best as I walk...or should I say, run...this journey."

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE BY PARTICIPATING IN THIS SHOW? "Hmm...whether I manage to get into the final group or not is one thing. But the most important goal I have right now..." Shuki looks down as she pauses in thought before looking back at the camera/interviewer again, "...is to let the world know of my voice."

HOW DO YOU ACT IN A GROUP? DO YOU TAKE THE LEADING ROLE OR DO YOU PREFER TO SIT BACK? "It depends. I'll try to assess the situation at hand first, what skills each member has, and then if I decide that they need an extra hand, I'll have no choice but to step up. It's not because I want to be leader to boss everyone around, no no, but because as a group member, this is my responsibility to contribute to the entire group so we can all reap the benefits in the end."

(Shuki's prior experience working in multiple collaboration projects over the internet has probably helped her too.)

WOULD YOU EVER TRY TO COMPETE FOR THE CENTER POSITION IN A PERFORMANCE? "If I see a song that potentially fits me as centre, then I will try," she says with a single nod and a reserved smile.

WHAT IS YOUR MOTTO? WE'RE PRODUCE, WE NEED MOTTOS. "Mottos?" She frowns for a moment as she tries to think of one. "'Let's do our best?' No...that sounds too lame and plain...umm...'Let me shine into your heart?' God that sounds so cheesy too...ehh..." She displays a sheepish look on her face. "Can you please help me choose...?"

GROUPNAME Noxalbion (녹살비온)

COMPANY N/A (independent)

TWIN GROUP Hexenring

TWIN IDOL/TALENT TWIN Hope (in Hexenring; otherwise if twin talent needs to cover both vocals & dance, Takeuchi Miyu)

DISCOGRAPHY Unfortunately, Noxalbion doesn't exactly have their own original songs yet, since they are just a vocal cover group. However, since getting together as a group in 2017, they have released 6 covers as part of their entry to the prestigious chorus battles held every year within the Youtaite community, which garnered a lot of viral attention:

Liar Mask by Mayama Rika

Reincarnation by Mafumafu

Sin of Sidelines by *Luna ft. IA

BRING IT ON by Giga ft. Kagamine Rin & Len

theater D by MYTH & ROID

Touch off by UVERworld

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE Before Noxalbion was formed, each member was just doing their own solo covers + collaborating with other Youtaites too, including Shuki herself under her Aiko pseudonym. As Aiko, Shuki also began to expand her online presence to the VTuber community, and in 2018 she debuted as a VTuber personality herself, marking exactly 5 years since she posted her first singing cover on Youtube. She does make videos, but most of the time she does livestreams of her playing video games or live singing instead, communicating to fans predominately in Japanese or Chinese.

LAST COMMENTS Finally finished.......orz At this point this entire application is just blatant self-projection on my part with a few minor changes here and there, but if you need any modifications/new twin group that *actually* makes music then please let me know. xD

UPDATE 06/11/21 - HIIII I've changed + added a few additional bits outside of what you were waiting for in the review so all of these modifications are highlighted pink. I realised I've been a dumb all this time cause I've JUST noticed that I've accidentally mistranslated one of her nickname previously. orz

QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS N/A

SUGGESTIONS In case I didn't make it clear here, Shuki will be going into the competition being known as an ex-nurse & "Youtube cover singer" only, no mention about Noxalbion until rumours dig her Aiko self up.

! Also, now that I look over at Mystic & Fly, I have a feeling Shuki's Noxalbion groupmate Mokkun has probably gamed with them before......lol.

SCENE REQUESTS I think Shuki's gonna celebrate her birthday during the filming of the show so...birthday surprise maybe? :D

Also late addition if you can see this buuuut I'm wondering how long would it be feasible for Shuki to keep hiding her arm because I reckon mayhaps a trainee with keen hawk eyes might be able to spot that she does have some strange scars from her left hand alone peeking out from her sleeve (if she's not wearing a half glove or something). It might be a good trigger for her character development to be more confident, but realistically speaking I dunno how well will she be treated in the industry after the reveal.

PASSWORD PiONEX (OK, I know this song's English, but I sorta imagine this to be a special track found in their debut album or something ><)
