35 Questions for Fanfic Writers

1. From one to five stars, how would you rate your writing? (No downplaying yourself!)

3.5? I feel like I could never put the entire thing that is on my mind into my writing. So what I actually put out there is probably just half of what I wanted to write about

2. Why do you write fanfiction?

I long hang onto the saying 'Write what you want to read about'.

3. What do you think makes your writing stand out from other works?

Well, I guess the background of books and past fanfictions I've read has molded the way I write and the way I create a plot. No one has that same background so that would make mine unique? Lol.

4. Are there any writers that inspire you?

Cecelia Ahern, Jennifer Smith, JK Rowling, etc. Fanfic writers HottestVIPSone and ShermaineShootsYou, michiusa <3

5. What’s the fic you’re most proud of?

Proudest is MADE just because it contained more characters than what I am usually used to.

6. What element of writing do you find comes easily?

The mental plotting lol

7. What element of writing do you struggle with most?

Writing itself.

8. Which character(s) do you find easiest to write?

Side characters like Seungri, TOP, Taeyang... because they have such distinct characteristics that I could easily write.

9. Which character(s) do you find most difficult to write?

My main OTP lol.

10. What’s your favorite genre to write for?

Definitely the outlaw romance kind.

11. Who or what do you find yourself writing about most?

G-Dragon & Yoona. I guess a part of why is the lack of existing GYoon fics. I've always only seen HottestVIPSone and ShermainShootsYou. Oh and Hiirah on AO3.

12. Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about.

The Widow. A Gone Girl/Girl on the Train kind. It's a lot complicated so I'm not sure if I'll really pursue it.

13. First fandom you ever wrote for?

YoonHae. SuperGeneration lol

14. What’s your favorite fandom to write for?

SoShiBang <3

15. What’s the weirdest fandom you’ve ever written for?

That 70's Show

16. Any guilty pleasure trope(s)?

Dom/sub relationships, soulmates trope

17. A trope you’ll never, ever write for.

Hmm.. A/B/O? Just because I feel like I can't do it justice

18. Wildest fic you’ve ever written?

HAHAHAHA When Girls Talk and probably this special chapter for Fix You

19. Do you prefer canon-compliant, AUs, or something in-between?

AUs would allow me to work more freely but I also very much like idolverse

20. Gen fic or shippy stuff?

Shippy stuff but someday I will write Gen fic

21. Favorite pairing to write for? (platonic or romantic!)

G-Dragon x Yoona, and Yoona x junior boy groups (platonic)

22. Do you listen to anything while you write?

Yes. Depends on the fic I'm writing.

23. Do you prefer prompts and challenges, or completely independent ideas?

I haven't been doing well with prompts/challenges

24. One-shots or multi-chaptered works?

Multi-chaptered works because I tend to ramble on

25. Have you ever daydreamed about side adventures/spin-offs from your fic? Tell us about them!

Ugh definitely. I already have an epilogue scenario written for Fix You. I would love to write side adventures for Coup D'etat and MADE. I daydream about that a lot.

26. Is there anything you’ve wanted to write, but you’ve been too scared to try?

Yes. A TREASURE thriller fic about a non-fan suddenly getting obsessed with them. I'm scared to try because you have to put your head into that story and that's a scary path to take.

27. What’s the nicest comment you’ve ever received?

All the comments I get are very much encouraging and it inspires me to write more but one of my favorites is when they say they can see it playing like a movie? Since I feel like I am not writing it as well as I imagined it in my head, it's nice to know that people could still see it visually.

28. How well do you handle criticism when it comes to your writing?

A friend had begun to help me on an independent project. An OC fiction I wanted to write. She had helped me to think deeper and figure out nuances that I would otherwise either ignore or shrug past by.

29. Have you ever gone outside of your comfort zone for a fic? How did it turn out?

For Fix You. The idea of a more involved second love interest has thrown me off my game. A tumblr writer told me 'surprise plotlines can bring the best changes.'  That encouraged me a lot.

30. Tooth-rotting fluff or merciless angst?

I'm always in between -.- I can't write overly fluff or overly angst.

31. Do you have any OCs? Tell us about them!

None yet!

32. Summarize a random fic of yours in 10 words or less.

Boy sees a girl, brings down entire town for her HAHAHAHAHAAHA

33. Is there anything you wish your audience knew about your writing or writing process?

I wish you could see it the way I see it anddd there's lessons scattered there beyond the main couple.

34. Copy and paste an excerpt you’re particularly fond of.

Yoona smiled at him. And from merely holding hands, Jiyong manouvered so their hands are now intertwining. She laughed. "We're a couple of sleepless, damaged people, aren't we?"

Just because this line here showed how they've accepted that the other is not perfect and they found comfort in the fact that someone understands them and accepts them no matter how damaged they think they are.

35. Ramble about any fic-related thing you want!

At the end of the day, fanfiction for me is self-indulgent but the fact that there are people who look forward or have gotten comfort or even break out a smile when reading my stories makes me feel honored. Thank you for lending me your time. I hope you get something you can bring with you in your daily life.

Hi! Oh, it's been such a long time since I read a blog like this! I remember answering such questions a few years back! Let me get started, hehe...

1. From one to five stars, how would you rate your writing? (No downplaying yourself!)
- Maybe a 3/5... I'm on the same page as you; I may have a very clear image of a certain chapter, but it's often difficult for me to create that same image through my words, so yeah. Plus, there's always room for improvement, and I will admit that I have improved over the years, so I think a 3 seems about right.

2. Why do you write fanfiction?
- At first, I started off because it seemed like a cool thing to do (and I wanted to be a part of the huge community), but now it's honestly a pleasure! I enjoy writing stories and it also helps me with my English vocabulary and grammar and such.

3. What do you think makes your writing stand out from other works?
- I don't think my stories stand out at all, but I personally think my stories (at least the recent ones) have good pacing because I know exactly how to end a certain story. When I first started off, I would write as I go, and it was a little messy. But that has changed now.

4. Are there any writers that inspire you?
- Oh, there are so many! I can't list them all, but yes, there definitely are a handful of writers on AFF and on AO3 that initially inspired me to start writing!

5. What’s the fic you’re most proud of?
- There's actually quite I few that I love like children of mine because I'm genuinely happy with the output! 'Welcome to Nivon!' and 'The River' (my current ongoing story) are two of my proudest accomplishments because they both have supernatural themes (and magic?) and I basically created a new environment for these stories, so it seems more original, if that makes sense. 'As The Fire Dances With The Wind' is probably my favourite, because it has a really slow pace and it's mostly just conversations that drive the reader through a journey between two characters falling in love. It's a historical AU, something I've never tried before!

6. What element of writing do you find comes easily?
- I suppose the introductory section, as well as the character dynamics.

7. What element of writing do you struggle with most?
- Putting in my mental images into words! Oh, I guess plot twists and foreshadowing are a bit difficult to implement too.

8. Which character(s) do you find easiest to write?
- The protagonist(s) and antagonist(s) because I know exactly how to portray them!

9. Which character(s) do you find most difficult to write?
- Side characters, because I often struggle with what role I should give them.

10. What’s your favorite genre to write for?
- All of them have a little romance, but other than that, supernatural and light angst, I suppose?

11. Who or what do you find yourself writing about most?
- All my works are mainly BTS stories with TaeKook/VKook (Taehyung and Jungkook) being the main pairings, but I do have side characters from other groups. Recently, I've written a Seventeen and TXT story too.

12. Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about.
- There's only one at the moment, 'The River', which revolves around the members of TXT and a few members from other groups too, in a supernatural themed story. I'm honestly enjoying writing it so far, so yeah!

13. First fandom you ever wrote for?
- BTS

14. What’s your favorite fandom to write for?
- BTS, and to be more specific, TaeKook/VKook, I suppose? It's the fandom I've started off with and the first group I got into several years ago, and I'm most familiar with portraying these characters.

15. What’s the weirdest fandom you’ve ever written for?
- Nothing weird so far, I hope, hehe...

16. Any guilty pleasure trope(s)?
- Hmm, not really, but I'm a er for sad endings (only if they're reasonable though). I also like the whole 'friends to lovers' scenario because I'm intrigued as to how it all comes about.

17. A trope you’ll never, ever write for.
- I'm honestly not very sure. I'll have to check a list of tropes first, oops!

18. Wildest fic you’ve ever written?
- Wildest? I don't know how you'd define that, but nothing comes to mind for now! Maybe 'Street Lights'? It's an old work of mine, and I'm not very proud of it, but it had a weird plot...

19. Do you prefer canon-compliant, AUs, or something in-between?
- I honestly don't mind any, so yeah. As long as the plot's good, I'm good!

20. Gen fic or shippy stuff?
- I suppose ships and pairs, but I wouldn't mind reading a general story either. To me, the plot is what matters the most.

21. Favorite pairing to write for? (platonic or romantic!)
- TaeKook/VKook, because I'm most familiar with them and I've written this pair the most. However, I have various ships in mind and I would love to write for all of them. For instance, at the moment, my ongoing story has YeonBin and TaeGyu as the main ships, along with many other pairings from other groups, and I'm genuinely enjoying it!

22. Do you listen to anything while you write?
- Definitely! Music helps me focus when it comes to writing. It doesn't even have to be fitting for the mood, I just need some music.

23. Do you prefer prompts and challenges, or completely independent ideas?
- Independent ideas, because I can morph and shape the plot the way I want to. However, if I find a good prompt/challenge, I'd take it!

24. One-shots or multi-chaptered works?
- I've written both, but multi-chaptered seems to be more of an advantage to me!

25. Have you ever daydreamed about side adventures/spin-offs from your fic? Tell us about them!
- I don't know if this counts as daydreaming, but I force myself to imagine scenarios for new chapters and twists!

26. Is there anything you’ve wanted to write, but you’ve been too scared to try?
- Horror-driven thriller stories! I'm just worried as to how I can actually put up the feeling of suspense, and that's kind of holding me back. I also want to try something Gothic or dark romance themed...

27. What’s the nicest comment you’ve ever received?
- Ah, I could never just choose one! I appreciate and reply to all my comments, because they mean so much to me. Even if it's something really short, it makes me feel all giddy and joyous. Unfortunately, it's been a while since I've received comments, so yeah. Cue the tears.

28. How well do you handle criticism when it comes to your writing?
- Well, this is an interesting question. I honestly write just for the fun of it, not because I want to be a writer someday or anything like that. Therefore, criticism doesn't really affect me or stress me out. I take the advice and note it down to improve on later! For instance, I had a huge problem with paragraphing, but a wonderful friend of mine helped me with examples and such, and I took about two months to readjust the paragraphs of all my stories - it was a little troublesome, but it's done now!

29. Have you ever gone outside of your comfort zone for a fic? How did it turn out?
- I don't think it's out of my comfort zone, but there were certain ideas I didn't think I'd try before, and I suppose they turned out pretty well actually.

30. Tooth-rotting fluff or merciless angst?
- Oh my God, none! Too much fluff will make me squeal, and too much angst will freak me out. Perhaps a mix of both. However, on certain days, I might just go for tooth-rotting fluff, and for others, merciless angst! When it comes to my own writing though, it's usually a mix of both but on very light terms. There are a few stories with heavy angst though.

31. Do you have any OCs? Tell us about them!
- I usually avoid OCs as main characters but there is only one that I've written. It's called 'For 10 Days', and it was basically my exaggeration on some fans who think they'll actually get really close with their favourite artists. The OC's name is Cho Jihee, who joins BigHit as a makeup artist for BTS' J-Hope and it's a weird, unrealistic ride from there... Yeah. Weird.

32. Summarize a random fic of yours in 10 words or less.
- Two coffee-obsessed dancers refuse to accept their feelings! (Story: Selfish)

33. Is there anything you wish your audience knew about your writing or writing process?
- Hmm, I'm honestly very basic, hehe... Nothing too special in my process! A glass of milk or any drink on my table, music playing through, a notepad open on my screen with little points and ideas, and my document open for me to type! If anything, I'd just want to apologise to them for not being able to portray the image I wanted to portray... Yikes for me!

34. Copy and paste an excerpt you’re particularly fond of.
- It's a little long but here you go:

In a world of love and hate, good and evil, there will be ups and downs. Therefore, people around you will either cry with grief, or smile to show hope. Sometimes, those smiles may be genuine, but often, they’d smile even on their darkest days if it means that they’d make the world seem a little brighter than usual. Look around you, and find the ones smiling day and night – talk to them before they end up like me, talk to them before they rush into the phase I went through, talk to them because even the ones with the brightest smiles may have a broken heart. Oh, and if they say they’re not special, stop them. Truthfully, everyone is special, even someone like me. If I can find my way out of the darkness, so can you.

‘You aren’t special’, we say to ourselves, but we are. We really are, and it’s a pity that we don’t see that immediately, yet we shouldn’t frown because time will heal us.

Time will heal every individual on earth, even after death.

35. Ramble about any fic-related thing you want!
- It's kind of early in the morning and my brain's not exactly working but to everyone out there who's reading anyone's story, please do try and leave at least a tiny comment, and perhaps an upvote too! I know that it sounds selfish, but it's honestly like a pat on the back, and these little things motivate us so much, and thank you <3
