— Elly has a small frame, delicate features and soft brown locks. Her creamy pale skin is slowly starting to burn now that she is out on the ship in the sun. Her fingernails that were usually perfectly petticured are chipped, broken and rough. Her hair is a mess because she never had to take care of it on her own, but one of the women on the ship showed her how to tie it up out of her face. She is dirty and wants to take a bath so bad.

People have designed lines specifically for her and she never wears the same dress more than once, often changing multiple times a day so she is sceen in as many beautiful gowns as possible. Now that she is wearing oversized mens clothing she is slowly loosing her mind.

Elly is her own person and is used to people not being able to handle her. She doesnt take direction easily and wont let just anyone come into her life. When people dont listen to her she uses the phrase 'do you know who your talking to' with them. She cares for her family greatly and would do anything to protect them, obviously, and she doesnt like leaving people who are relying on her in need. She often will do outreach to help those in need in Newhaven. She is good at problem solving, one of her past times is puzzeles and she loves riddles. She once set out a quest for the best riddles in all the lands then held a festival for it. She loves having fun and will never say no to a party.
Elly holds herself in a way that even she knows is arrogance. She is rich so you better show her respect or she will on you for it. She has the outlook of its my way or the highway, even if its a situation she doesnt really know about, she will fake it and start taking over. She does not take direction very well at all and has no problems with yelling at people. moves faster than her brain and she has a habbit of saying some nasty things to people then having to back track to apologize. She can admit when she screwed up and face the music though.

BACKGROUND : As a young girl Elly lived in the lap of luxury. She always had the finest silks, bedding and anything she wanted in her life, young girls would audition to be her aquaintences and young boys took classes to one day be good enough to be a match for her. She never wanted for anything
She was raised in education and taught to be proper and to be a lady. When her sisters came along she was also expected to help with them as they learned how to be a lady as well. She set the standard for the family and she did well, everyone always commented on how well she grew up and that she was going to make an excilent wife someday. Elly always thought it was a great compliment.
There was two schools in Newhaven, one for the rich and one for the less rich, Elly clearly went to the privious. She learned things like how to cross stitch, read and write better and classic fashion. Only a few women were allowed in but they took it as an honor to let a Braunstone in. She did well but always knew most of what she learned wouldnt be put use, she was going to end up being the wife to an elietest.
Following in her mothers footsteps, Elly learned how to host parties, events and gathrings that even the Highqueen has attended more than a few times. Her mother was slowly stepping down, letting her do more events and stepping into the light more and more. That also lead to her getting more and more suiters offering themselves but her father never accepted one, he wanted her to help choose her parter.
Elly always had things going on in her life but she never really did anything new or exciting. She never left Newhaven and scretly wished for something but never told anyone about it. Her father and tutors constantly told her about the dangers with pirates, that they were dirty theives with no morals and she needed to avoid them at all costs. She wouldn't even go to the hangings because there was a danger one would show up to it.
Newhaven was invated a few times but no one ever made it very far, never to the govoners mansion. This time it was differant, they had a well thought out plan. Multiple ships came into harbor and they attacked in multiple locations. The governor was known for letting citizens into the basements during attacks and the pirates used that to their advantage. Eight pirates went in under the guise of seeking shelter but as soon as they were in they headed upstairs. They easily found where the staff were hiding but it took a bit longer to find the daughters.
Sybyll was actually taken but she refused to let go of the bedpost and the pirates were getting bothered, one pulled their sword out to hit Sybyll so they could go but Elly stepped right in front of him. She offered herself so Sybyll would be freed and she was. The pirates took Elly back to their ship and she didnt fight them, she didnt want them to go back for Sybyll because she was fighting.
When she got to the ship she was tossed into the hold but not tied up. She did everything she could to get the door open but it wasnt happening. She was going to fight whoever came in the door but as soon as the door opened and she threw herself at the pirate he grabbed a hold of her and held her body against his. She uderstood what he wanted and pulled away from him as soon as she could. She kept something between her and him until he grew bored and left.

PERSONALITY:

— Charles is not proper, likes to swear and has a gruff exterior and interior. He doesnt make friends because he doesnt like having people close to him, he likes the crewmates but thats about it. He is smart and often can see the bigger picture so he is great at solving problems and he has an amazing memory so he doesnt often need to see his maps to know where to go.

BACKGROUND:

— Charles was raised in Newhaven to a moderatly wealthy family. His two sisters were arranged to be married and he was set up to join the royal navy. He didnt mind the life chosen for him, he was an awkward young boy with no real frineds in Newhaven.
In the years before he joined the navy he spent time at the school in Newhaven, mainly aeronautics and science. He took to it well and was a good student, however when he joined the navy they had him doing things he didnt want to be doing. They didnt let him at charts or the stars, instead put him in the gunners bay and tried to get him to learn to shoot. He was a terrible shot.
After being in the navy for two years he was dischared and he did not want to go back. He didnt stop in Newhaven to tell his father that he failed out of the navy. Instead he jumped onto a merchant ship as their navigator. Now that he was doing what he liked he was flourishing, he liked where he was.
A hurricane came through and threw the ship he was on and parts of the ship were torn off. The other parts were strewn around to some of the local islands, including Charles. He, along with seven crewmates, ended up on a tiny island with hardly any foilage, but enough that they werent going to burn.
Day five the first one died from his wounds, day nine two died from exposure, day twelve two more died and day fifteen the other two died. Charles lasted another four days with no food before he set the treese on fire to attempt a signal fire. He stood in waist deep water the rest of the day, hoping someone would see and come help. The one that saw the fire was the Nightingale.
It took days for Charles to come back to life, he was underweight and so dehidrated the ships doctor thought he was going to die. When he did come back the doctor was actually suprised.

Over the next few years Charles took to his new role as the ships sailmaster. Sure he was technically a criminal and could never go home, but he never felt like Newhaven was his home. He liked the ship and how the others acted, they were hardly never proper and messed around all the time.

LOVE STORY:

— Charles was the one who found Elly. She was huddled in a closet with some of the staff but he knew which one she was. He got her to the ship's hold and sat in there with her, pretty much to intimidate her. It worked. She was terrified and Charles liked it a little bit. Yes he felt a little bad but he still liked the power he had. It was at the captians instruction he leave her alone, after all she had her virtue to attend to.
The next day when she was brought up on the deck the pirates were leering and mocking her and she could do nothing about it, until she got a good look at Charles. Everyone stopped when she said his name, like his fully name. She demanded to know what the hell he was doing, she thought he was nice, not scum like he had been acting. He was taken aback, one because she remembered his name, two because she called him scum and he liked what he was doing. The minister is the one who was able to get her away from them and back down to the hold.
Eventually Charles went down to talk to her, softly saying he didnt think she would have remembered him, they hardly ever spoken. She snapped back she remembers everyone, its part of her role in Newhaven and she is disgusted by him now. His mother died, not that he cared and his father is a drunk now. Both his sisters were taken to Wintaberg and it was all his fault. Charles wasnt going to hear any more of it but Elly kept going, saying his sister's fiancé didnt want to be married to a pirate so he left her and she was forced to marry someone else, someone who often beat her and she was miserable. She just kept saying it was all Charles fault, the only way to shut her up was by back handing her hard enough that she fell to the ground and he left the room.
It was days before trhey interacted again. The crewman brought Elly up on deck in the middle of the night because no one would be up there and she could get some fresh air. He hated seeing a lady locked up all the time. Unfortunatly Charles was on deck, laying out, watching the stars. Elly didnt even notice him at first, she was too caught up in the sky. The stars seemed to be everywhere out here, nothing like what they were in Newhaven. They staid out there, on opposite sides of the ship, for hours just watching the stars.
Elly spent most of her time in the hold and she was bored out of her mind lookin for any excitement to come along. Eventually she got some. The ship was boarded and she heard gun fire. It didnt take long for pirates to get down to where she was. They took one look at her and decided they had to take her. They got all the way back to their ship before three pirates from the NIghtingale got to her, Charles included. The two of them ended up cournered, him with his pistols and her with a small knife she grabbed off the ground. For the most part he was keeping them away but one got close and Charles didnt see him coming. Elly stabbed him mulitple times, a little too many times, and she only stopped because Charles took her by the arm and started running. He kept her arm in his grasp even as he ran right off the side of the ship and into the water. She could swim but her dress was pulling her down, her legs were getting tangled in the lays so she was drowning. Charles did the only thing he could think to and started pulling layers off, which was incredibly hard with her kicking and lack of oxygen. Eventually he got her down to her chemise and she started gaining bouancy but she wasnt breathing anymore. They were hauled up to the deck and the surgeon stepped in to her her breathing again. When she realised how she was dressed she just curled up and wouldn't look at anyone.
Later that night Charles went to her to thank her for having his back and killing that man. She of course had a snarky comment about him needing her to kill people for him to be nice to her. He scoffed and stormed away.
The crewman was able to scrounge up some clothes for Elly to wear but they were mens clothes that were way too big for her. She managed to tie them up so they fit a little better but she still felt awkward in them. When she went up to the deck with him one of the pirates started laughing at her for her clothes and grabbed a hold of her to start feeling her up but Charles was not having that. The two of them started fighting, both landing a few good blows before the captian broke it up. Charles had blood on his face but he looked so angry, when he looked Ellys way she just looked away like the deck was the most facinating thing she had ever seen.
Elly was leary of the crew from then on, she only would be around the crewman, the missoinary and Charles if she absolutly had to. She also started having more freedom on the ship, the door wasnt locked but she didnt often leave, never if she was alone. She still had that knife and she did her best to practice with it, but all she had to practice was a timber in the hold, so she wasnt very good.
Charles came down one day because he had seen the timber covered in stab marks and he wanted her to try to stab him. She failed, of course but that was expected. He started taking time teaching her how to defend herself, saying he couldnt be around to help her in the future. She and wasnt getting any better, they didnt have the room in the hold to practice. They went up to the deck with the others who of course had to vocalise how terrible she was, that the missionary faught better than she did and she has better uses. Charles told her to ignore them and keep focused on him.
They kept working together but she didnt seem to be getting any better, he kept beating her every time and she never got a mark on him. He kept pushing her because he kept thinking about what she said about his sister and if she could fight than she would be ok.
The first time Elly cut Charles she dropped the knife and grabbed his arm, like it would help. He didnt't know how to respond so he just kinda froze. Once she realised what she was doing she dropped his arm and stepped back. Neither of them said anything for a minute before she walked away.
Both Charles and Elly sat in their bed, sewing and mulling over their thought. Both accepted they were feeling sometihng for the other but neither wanted to accept or admit it. Charles hated that he was falling for a rich from Newhaven, he didnt want to fall for someone, he liked being free. Elly hated that she was getting feelings for him, she loved Lachlan and wanted to get home to him, Charles was a pirate, a nasty one who liked tormenting women too. She wanted to be with Lachlan, not Charles, what was wrong with her?
Now every time she was out it seemed like Charles was there, laughing or studying his charts. He seemed so inteligent and charming, but he was a pirate, what was wrong with her. Charles was going through the same things, she was out more so he saw more of her, the way the sun made her hair seem to glow or the way she was getting her sea legs. She actually gave the first mate sass and he loved it.
They started training together again but not with knives this time. Charles insisted she learn how to break hand holds but he just wanted to get close to her, see if he maybe liked her the way he thought he did. When she tried to pull out she pushed her body against his and yup, he did have feelings for her after all. His face heated up, he pushed her away before turning his back. He didnt realise but Elly had done the same thing, she was blushing profusly and trying to smooth out her shirt. She cleared and started walking away.
Charles and Elly were talking one night and she eventually told him that she lied. Her mom did die but both his sisters were happily married. His father did drink for a while but had stopped and worked with his uncle's smithie shop now. They mourned him for a while but they had good lives now.
Charles argued with the captain, saying she could be helpful to the crew and they didn't need to ransom her back to her family. She could stay and learn to be like them. The captian said she was worth way more as ransom, she could make them enough money to have them set for years, the govenor just needed to pay up.

— Lachlan was raised in the military so he is proper, respectful and follows the rules. He does not like going against the grain, he would rather follow the flow. He is charming and all but fearless. He has been alone most of his life though so he is afraid of getting close to people because he is affaid he will loose them. He often lets his emotions lead him and had a habit of wearing his heart on his sleeve.

BACKGROUND:

— Lachlan Powell joine the military at age seven. He lost his entire family to illness and, with no where else to go, he just walked onto one of the ships docked at Wintanberg. He waited until they were out to sea before walking up to the captian and declairing his desire to join up. He was laughed at but they werent going to throw a child overboard so they kept him.
He quickly learned everything about the ship and how they ran so he also climed in rank quickly. By the age of 14 he was already a leuitenant, the only thing holding him back was his age, the commodore didnt want someone his age being in charge of everyone so he was held back.
Lachlan didn't mind much, he was doing what he knew and loved. The sea was his home and he didnt even want to have a house in Newhaven, all he wanted to do was be on a ship.

LOVE STORY:

— Lachlan met Ellyn Braunstone for the first time when he was 15. She was 13 and they were throwing a massive party for her birthday. All the leuitenants and up were there and it was the largest gathering of people he had ever seen in his life. There were tons of differant people there from every country it seemed, Gelboldihr included.
When he saw Elly it seemed like all the music quieted and the sun dimmed. She looked so beautiful and reagle, he literally couldn't put a thought to anything. Before he knew what he was doing he had walked up to her and the govenor and introduced himself. The governor laughed a bit about it but saluted him back. Elly smiled at him, curtsied and all but dismissed him. He felt like his heart crumbled but his superior officer pulled him away before he could do anything more embarrising.
A few days later Lachlan recived a letter from Elly and it smelled like lilacs and vanilla. It said that she appreciated him introducing himself and that she was looking forward to seeing him again. He felt like he was going to melt into the sea and he didnt even care the others were laughing.
Over the next few years Lachlan and Elly wrote eachother weekly, sometimes longer if he was out to sea longer but as often as they could. He got back to Newhaven a handful of times but not as often as he wanted.
At the age of sixteen Lachlan became the youngest commander in the Wintaberg navy. The govenor of Newhaven insisted on throwing him a slight celebration, nothing to elaborate just a few hundred people, an orchistra and a feast. So it was huge to him, regular nights to everyone else though.
Elly found him that night, looking even more radient than ever. They were seated next to eachother and the entire night they were talking and goofing off how ever they could. Lachlan's superior officers saw it but they couldnt exactly call him out infront of everyone. When the night was over and he had to leave Elly took him towards the sea and gave him a kiss on the cheek. He was literally floating as he went back to his ship, all he could think about was her now.
Fast forward ten years and Lachlan is made commodore Powell. The govenor insisted he come back for a smaller celebration this time, not as many pomp and circumstance. There was maybe 50 people, Elly included.
That night the govenor announced he decided who Elly was going to marry and that he was there that night. Lachlan's stomach dropped but when he looked at Elly she was just stairing at him looking as happy as ever. The govenor had known about their relationship over the years, and while there was no way she would marry a commander or leuitenant, marrying a commodore of the royal navy was a whole nother thing. Lachlan was stunned, he couldnt actually prosess what was going to happen and that he was going to end up with everything he had ever wanted.
Over the next few months Lachlan spent time in Newhaven with Elly, setting things up and getting to know echother more, in person. It seemed like a fairy tale but then everything had to come crumbling down.
Lachlan was out at sea when the news came. Newhaven was attacked and parts of the city were left in ruin, some of the worst damage was done to the govenors mansion. Among those taken was Elly and they had no leads to follow to chase them down. The ship was set to head directly back to Newhaven, full wind in the sail.
