Helpful and empathetic: Despite being a little brat who loves to pull pranks, his parents had teached him great values while growing up. He was teached to help and care for people, and when someone is in need of help, Jianyu will be ready to do so. No matter how much you like Jianyu, no matter how much he likes you. The family didn't have too much to share either. While his parents were out farming, Jianyu was the one left in charge of the household, taking care of his three younger siblings. Growing up poor and in charge of three baby siblings has teached him a lot, and despite Jianyu being the playful prankster bratty kid that he is, he knows how to help, share and take care of people. This side isn't the one that is shown the most, the dark side of the tidally locked planet that is Jianyu, and the star is SJLK2. Meaning that his motherly side never gets shown. Well... not really never, when its absolutely needed, this side magically appears. And the staff was the first one to notice, so this might just be why he was named as co-captain.

Protective: he might still be very young, Jianyu is used to being the oldest of his family, having three much younger siblings. Being in charge made him extremely protective over the people he loves. He once lost one of the kids who ran out while he wasn't looking and it was the scariest experience little Jianyu had ever had. He was only 14, he really didn't know what to do.  He projects that fear and protectiveness on the friends around him. If someone leaves without warning Hua or Jianyu, he'll go wild trying to find out where they are at. When one member is scared he'll be there to protect. He just wants the people he loves to be safe at all times.

Sociable and chatterbox: Jianyu is an open book. He loves to talk, he loves to make friends, and prank them of course, but he is the type that would want to surround himself with many friends, and include every single one. A member that is a bit more quiet? Jianyu will still drag him along to participate in everything. He's a very talkative person. He'll always have something to say or yell. And he won't stop until his story is told or his point is brought across. He's too much of a chatterbox sometimes. He won't let you go if he wants to talk to you. Not everyone likes that.

Playful and mischievious: here he comes, Jianyu the prankster. Ever since he was a little kid, the little free time he got was spent roaming on the streets, playing with friends, pranking random people. It always gave him so much excitement and fun. He loves toying around, frustrating people, making people chase him after they stepped in one of his traps. This is the side the other members mostly see. The playful nail in everyone's coffin. He doesn't listen to anyone except for maybe two people. He always does his own thing and it will always annoy at least one person.

Prideful: Jianyu is very proud of himself, he has heaps of pride. He's proud of his skills, he's proud of his heritage. But he walks the thin line between being positively proud and annoyingly proud. He can really get on people's nerve by acting too proud and disregarding other people's skills, but other times everyone loves it, because he shows how proud he is of s. He's co-captain, he has to be proud of what his boys are capable of. He might not seem like a co-captain at first and he'll have to learn a lot from Hua on how to lead a group that's not just a bunch of kid siblings, but he was picked for a reason, and he'll show that in the future.

Bratty and childish: Yeah, Jianyu is a co-captain in disguise. It will show up when it's needed, but when Jianyu doesn't have to do co-captain duties and Hua doesn't need his assistance, Jianyu will just be an extra child to take care of. He's very childish, still living like he's on the streets of Langde Miao village. He never had much time to be a kid, so he still wants to be one from time to time. He reacts to conflict in a very childish way and will often act bratty when he doesn't get his way. He wasn't spoiled at all as a kid, but he acts like he's the son of the damn prime minister. Jianyu will get his way, somehow. He can be so annoying, it's a headache for hua. But when he has caring and protecting to do, he will come through. His motherly instincts need to be awakened, because they're in a deep slumber without his siblings around. I guess he's kind of like the type of dad that's all about playing and making stupid jokes and pranking the kids and making the mom complain, but when a kid is feeling troubled he'll be there for them and try to give advice. Oh, and he has the dad reflex of protection, like when someone's about to fall he'd react in a split second and grab them so they're saved. True dad reflex.

Naggy and stubborn: this is kind of an overlapping between his two sides. He'll nag at you no matter what, if he's being his bratty self or showing his sweet side, he'll always nag. Nag at Hua to give him candy, 5 minutes later he'd be nagging at Saeran because he has to do the dishes. You can never get this damn roach away, if he has something to say he'll keep coming back, he'll keep nagging until you have done what he wanted you to do. He's very stubborn, unwilling to give in. It's extremely hard to argue with him because even when he's in the wrong, he'll stand by his point and try to get what he wants. It isn't easy to change Jianyu's opinions unless someone gives him a real harsh wake up call. Again, he'll always try anything he can to get what he wants. But sometimes, the thing he wants isn't actually what he wants in his head, but something one of the other members wants. It's not only for himself. Keiko wants head pats from Ryosuke? Jianyu will nag at Ryosuke for HOURS to give Keiko head pats. No one can stop this kid. Except for Marelaine. His weakness.

[ Traditions and siblings ]

Jianyu was born in 2002 as the first child of a young family of Miao people. His parents were farmers and traditional performers in the traditional village they lived in. Most of the people of the village were teached to perform and show traditional performances since a very young age. In his first years of life, Jianyu would always be on his parents' backs while they were working, but once he got older he spent his time roaming the streets with his friends. He didn't have many things growing up, so he got fun out of pranking people and playing with friends on the streets of the traditional, beautiful village. Once he was old enough to perform for the traditions and tourists, Jianyu started doing it. When he was 8, he got a little sibling, and another one, and another one. Suddenly he had to watch three kids while his parents were out working. At first, it wasn't an easy feat, but Jianyu learned to love, protect and care for the little baby siblings. At the beginning, he wasn't too good or too strict because he was a little kid himself, and would often take the little ones on the streets to play anyways, but then the scare of his life happened when one of his siblings disappeared while he wasn't looking for just a bit. Jianyu was so scared that his sibling would be hurt, or was kidnapped or something. He spent a few hours running through the town, crying and screaming for his little sister. When he found her, hidden away in a corner and scared, he never felt so relieved. Ever since that moment of great fear, he got way better at caring for the little ones, and he'd watch over them like a hawk. That fear would chase him all his life, and if a friend now leaves without notifying him, he'll be scared, no matter how old they are.

[ Traditional or modern music? ]

When Jianyu started to grow a little older and his siblings were able to care for themselves better, he got more freedom. He often went to the library with friends to use the computers, because in this traditional town, having computers was rare. That's where he ended up discovering modern music. In August 2015, little 13 year old Jianyu discovered a brand new artist, a young, fierce girl who was good at rapping, singing and dancing, and Jianyu was a huge fan immediately. Marelaine Li was her name. He was also fan of a guy named Zhang Yixing, but Marelaine was Jianyu's absolute favourite. He wanted to be like her. He wanted to be an idol like her. He wanted to be popular and loved like her. But his parents weren't happy when they heard about it. He had siblings to take care of, he had traditional performances to do. This wasn't what Jianyu was meant to be doing. It caused tensions to get higher than ever, and Jianyu would often throw tantrums because of his parents not encouraging him. In the room he shared with his siblings, he'd practice Marelaine's songs, imitate her, improve his skills by performing her songs. after a while, his parents finally turned a new leaf, and they allowed him to go to a company once he wanted to. He wanted to join Marelaine's company, but then the news came that she went MIA and had left that company, so his second choice was going to Korea, to Zhang Yixing's company. SM entertainment. It would be a big shot, but Jianyu wanted to do it so badly that he just tried. And it worked.

[ Wait... What? ]

In March 2017, little 16 year old Jianyu headed to Korea to audition for the company where he wanted to be. Of course, Jianyu performed a Marelaine song at the audition, Queen of queens, her debut song which was very rap focused. It was the song he could do best. Because it was a Korean company, he had also prepared a korean song, which was La La La by Bigbang, very old school. It worked, and Jianyu got into the company. The judges were grinning to themselves, cause he had a big storm coming. And the storm came when Jianyu saw a stunning figure strut her stuff in the maze of corridors that was the training facilities. Holy snuggles. It was Marelaine Li. Jianyu almost tripped on the spot. What the hell was she doing here?

[ Baby steps ] 

Jianyu joined SM entertainment as a 16 year old foreigner that barely knew Korean and had never gotten any professional training before. The only thing he knew how to do was to perform Marelaine's songs, he knows them all by heart. He got in mostly because he showed potential and had lots of charm and visual (learned from watching Marelaine lol). It was kind of a slow start because of his lack of skills, but once he kinda got started, the ball started rolling and he started to grow quite well. He'd never be the best idol, but he's definitely a good one. When it comes to talent, he was just there. But he was always ready to help other trainees if they needed, often staying up late to just help or be some company for a trainee that was having late night extra practice. That caught the attention of people.

When Jianyu found out that his big idol, Marelaine, was in the same company, he went wild. This was the first time that he ever saw her in real life. Marelaine loved it, she found him super adorable, and ever since, she has been looking out for him, helping him out and teaching him lessons. Sometimes Jianyu would just watch her training and try to imitate her. He wants to be the flirty, popular heartthrob like Marelaine, so he always tries to imitate the presence she has on stage that just pulls everyone in and makes them have heart eyes for her. At the beginning, he was way too feminine because he was just imitating Marelaine, but she helped him out and made his presence even stronger. She loved him and his adorable little celeb crush for her. He was now her baby.

[ The program ]

Jianyu pretty much got into the program because of his helpfulness and because Marelaine kept talking him up, and the staff noticed. He was asked to audition. This time, he actually didn't do a Marelaine song, what a surprise. He performed born hater by epik high, and that's how he got into the program. Madame Kang's words were 'you're in, but you have to seriously work hard to be able to stay.' So Jianyu worked his off. He himself and the staff have concluded that his dancing will never get special, but his rapping and presence is so strong that they kept him. He often annoyed staff members and madame kang with his antics, but then he'd stay up all night to help someone improve their rapping, or stay at night dancing with a weak dancer, or he'd just sit and nap in the corner, just so the other wouldn't have to walk home alone late at night (this was mostly for the girls but also for boys like Hua and Jasper who are scared of the dark lol). It definitely gave him bonus points to stay in the program, and it even got him the co-captain position somehow. He definitely wasnt mature enough to be a captain, but he was the ideal helping hand you could ask for. Well, not really ideal cause he is the nail in Hua's coffin and takes no authority from him but he is like the protector of MLSM, and thats definitely needed.

PREDEBUT TEAM 

At first, the people in charge didn't know where to put Jianyu, so he has been in both Thunder and Hail to see how he does. Heck, he has joined Sweetz and Sourz practices too, he has basically been with every single team. And in the end, he was made part of the lil hailballs. It was mainly his visuals and presence that made him end up in the lighter group, but he'll definitely be the flirty, kinda cringy one of the group of absolute bubs. Hail is a mess, poor Hua. He needed a co-captain, but it wasn't an easy decision to pick out who it was. The staff wasn't exactly happy with the decision, like, who would even think of appointing this brat as co-captain? But Madame Kang had her reasons. He's always ready to help and offer comfort when it's really needed, so that's the main reason. But if no one needs help, Jianyu will just be an extra annoying child for Hua.

He was known since pre-debut as the flirty boy of Hail, the one who was always doing fanservice, which he learned from his idol Marelaine of course. But also the prankster, fun baby that was also ready to give advice to fans if they had any concerns. He was quite loved but some people also found him annoying. He takes no authority from anyone in the two SJLK generations. He doesn't listen to Hua, to Liam, to Sam, to Sieun... Except for one. He will always go 'nyehh I do what I want!' until Marelaine taps him on the fingers, tells him to behave, and he'll behave like a puppy. The others have learned to just get Marelaine when they need Jianyu to listen. He only listens to her.

She can speak quite well too, she usually repeats sentences from members, mostly Jianyu but also others, but her most used phrase is holy snuggles. Jianyu always gives her kisses when he gets home from training. When Jianyu is gone she'll be in a cage but when he's home (or someone else who knows how to handle Mari) she'll roam freely in the dorm.

Chenxi is now the one who is in charge of the household when the parents are out working, and it has made her way more mature and empathetic, just like Jianyu. She used to be a bit of a brat, a deviant, often trying to get away from Jianyu, pull his hair, , but she is changing a lot now. She's still sassy though. She loves her big brother heaps, and it's mutual. Chenxi is probably Jianyu's favourite sibling. She was also the one that ran off and scared the out of Jianyu.

Jiayi is super adorable, very vocal and very smart. He can even be a smartass sometimes. He is a really sweet, loud and playful kid but he also loves learning new things, so whenever he sees Jianyu, he'll always ask lots and lots of questions. He's a sweet little bundle of sunshine and was never really annoying or hard to deal with in any way.

The tiniest of tiny babies in the He family. The ray of sunshine of the house. Bubbly, cheerful, playful, energetic. He's always there melting people's hearts with his adorable smile and cute little words. He never seems to be sad and is always bouncing off the walls, dancing around, jumping, falling, getting up again and climbing on things. He's rambunctious and it's always a joy to watch. Junyi was very young when Jianyu left for Korea, so he mainly sees the baby grow up through internet, which makes him quite sad.

Marelaine is the reason why Jianyu is where he is now. He wanted to be like her. Be the flirty idol she is. He auditioned with a Marelaine song. He flirts on stage like Marelaine. He is like a male younger Marelaine when he goes into idol mode. It's what he wanted to be since she debuted. He didn't know Marelaine was under SM when he joined, so when he saw her he was the most shocked he has ever been. He couldn't even talk and ended up just running away. It took him some time and heaps of courage to start talking to his idol. Marelaine loved him immediately because he was so adorable, and they're now close friends, even though Jianyu is still super shy around her. She's the only kind of authority that he listens to. He'll always go to her for advice, and will always ask to teach him tips and tricks for becoming the flirty heartthrob he wants to be. Marelaine considers him her baby, and will always baby him and drown him in love, making Jianyu completely weak. (of course its not real love but motherly love cause the real love is kept for Gong Myung and Kun)
