perfectionist & insecure
Chiwoong is quite a perfectionist, if he does something he cares a lot about the details and doesn't like to deliver half work. For real he rather drop the whole project than delivering something he isn't satisfied with. His very perfectionistic behaviour comes from a certain sense of insecurity. Chiwoong has the constant feeling he has to prove himself and that he never is enough. His background definitely didn't help the kid to develop some kind of confidence, though he usually acts like it's no big deal and it doesn't affect him that much. He knows how to hide all the emotional pain caused by the hurtful thoughts but might break down one day.

social & openminded
Even though Chiwoong has a more introverted personality type, that doesn't mean that he isn't a people person. He is a very open and social person. He is quite emotionally intelligent and can read people pretty well or sense if there is something bothering the others. He is always up for some deep conversations but knows to have some random small talk as well to make people easily comfortable around him. Not only is he sociable, he is also really openminded. He doesn't judge people easily and tries to understand them. If he has questions about certain things he will ask people, but makes sure it doesn't come over as if he doesn't agree with them and their believes and motifs, even if he doesn't. He just wants to understand the others. 

hardworking & energetic
Once Chiwoong has a goal he will do anything he can to reach it. He has no problems pulling allnighters during practice or while producing songs. He used to work and train till he couldn't stand on his feet anymore. Though it's not because he works hard for his goals that he doesn't know when to give up. He stays realistic no matter what. He knows damn well he's getting older and if it doesn't work out at SM he might as well give up to be an idol. The thing that definitely helps to keep him going is his unstoppable energy. No one knows where he keeps it. Even when pushed to the limits there is always that little spark inside him that keeps him going on. He will be the first one to jump up again after the five minute break at a tough practice and motivates the others to do the same, always. 

forgetful & naive
Chiwoong's memory needs some training, perhaps that's why he wasn't really good at school. Especially his short term memory is a mess, he will definitely not know what he ate in the morning a few hours later (if he even ate). He is very likely to forget where he put his stuff if he didn't put it in it's usual spot. Not only is he forgetful, he believes almost everthing you tell him. This is the perfect combo to get pranked (Sol would love to victimize him). 

patient & punctual
When it comes to patience, Chiwoong is definitely one of the more patient members. He has nerves of steel and it's extremely hard to get him angry. When the unimaginable happens and you happen to annoy the kid a bit you will get warned by an eyeroll or even a glare. Even when you recieved the warning, it still takes a while for the volcano to errupt. That doesn't mean that he will allow people to fool around at crucial moments. He cares a lot about being puctual and meeting deadlines and expectations, probably because of his jobs, employers usually don't like it when their employees are late and won't hesitate to fire them if it keeps happening, especially  when it are part timers. Chiwoong has a quite mature way of dealing with things and it's definitely one of his more leaderlike traits.  

caring & gentle
Chiwoong has a lot of love to give and will do it in such a sweet and gentle way, it will make your heart melt. He will treat everyone with respect and is a true gentleman. He really is that guy that holds the door for you. He will treat the youngsters and the girls of the company, like princesses and the others like the bros they are. He will show small acts of kindness a lot (he might buy cookies for the members and write kind post its for them, he might do the dishes while it's not his turn to do so when the others are sleeping on a sleepless night, etc.). Chiwoong is the hero we all need but don't deserve.

emotional 
Bring this man some tissues because he might need them. Chiwoong is a person that's easily moved and has his emotions control him more than that he is in control of his emotions. He feels a lot of emotions very strongly and being the real man he is, he isn't afraid to show it (except for anger and insecurity). You'll always know how Chiwoong is feeling as he is rather expressive. 

takes things personally
Chiwoong is a person that easily blames himself when things go wrong. He is the one that didn't perform well, he is the one that couldn't lead the others better, he is the one to blame if their songs don't do well. Though it doesn't work like this when something succeeds. Then it's "our" win, or "because of the fans". Every bad remark feels like a personal attack to Chiwoong and he will definitely beat himself up for it. 

clumsy
this might be Chiwoong's main personality trait. Chiwoong has the magic power to break almost everything he touches, going from pens to lamps to even electronics. Chiwoong is only given the group ipad in supervision of the other members so they can step in when things go wrong. (probably chiwoong: "this add says to click it if we want to know how to become millionairs, should I?"). He isn't mr handy man and should not be trusted to fix physical things, it will only become worse.  
 

background

Chiwoong's life started of petty normal. He was the only son of a middle class family. Chiwoong and his parents weren't extremely wealthy but could give their son everything he wanted and needed. Wich made the first years of his life pretty good, but what was going on behind the back of Chiwoong and his mother, Park Juyeon, was everything but pleasant. The reason his father could afford nice things for Chiwoong was because of a loan he got from not not so kosher men. And when the man lost his job when his son was about 3 years old, he wasn't able to pay the men back. 

The living situation for the Ryu family got only worse and when things slowly got unbearable for Chiwoong's dad, he left a note and disappeared completely. Chiwoong had no idea where his father went and asked repeatedly for him. Everytime his mom would say that his dad was busy at work and would come soon. But he never did, at some point Chiwoong just stopped asking. It didn't matter what happened to him as long as he wouldn't come home, it didn't matter where he would be. 

With the main source of income gone, Chiwoong's mother had no choice to return to her own parents to beg for forgiveness and money. They were everything but happy with their daughter marrying Chiwoong's father and them getting a kid together. They barely even visited to see their grandson after he got born. The elderly weren't exactly happy with the return of their daughter but they finally got their "told you so" moment and accepted her and her son back into the family. Juyeon could work in the foodstall of her parents while Chiwoong went to school.

School was rather hard. Chiwoong was not the smartest kid but he was social and got quite some friends. Though after visiting his friends their places several time, it was clear that he wasn't on the same step in the social ladder as them, which caused him to never really invite people over. He was quite embarrassed to tell them he lived with his grandparents and that his father just disappeared one day. 

As said before, Chiwoong might not be the best student in class, he tried his best, but studying just wasn't for him. He might even get called dumb unironically sometimes, which of course hurt him but the kid knows an academic life wouldn't be for him. From a young age he knew he wanted to become an idol. Though because of money issues after school activities like vocal or dance classes were an issue, he would sneak into vacant classrooms of music academies or dance studios to teach himself how to play piano, guitar and drum, without sheet music, he just played random tunes and created some songs like that. 

When the kid turned 16, he had finally enough of school and dropped out. It was clear that he would never get into university and what would be the point of studying in high school if you can't make it to uni? The kid got several part time jobs, going from waiting tables to being in those mascot suits for companies to being cashier at the local supermarket. Name it and he did it. Because not only did he have to get money for his mother and grandparents now, there had been another addition for the family, a little half-sister, Park Youngji. His mother got in a relationship with a married man and thought that getting a baby together would keep her and the man she now loved together... that was not the case. And while they get monthly money to take care of Youngji, it was barely enough to support the family. 

While Chiwoong worked almost every waking hour, he still felt the need to pursue his carreer in music. He auditioned for several companies, including SM and YG, yet it was YG that accepted the kid in their company and the rest... is history. (and will be in the training section~)

YG 
Originally Chiwoong auditioned for YG as vocalist, he sang the song Wedding Dress by Taeyang. He presented them one of the songs he had written himself as well. And while he wasn't exceptionally good, Chiwoong got still accepted into the company.  Probably because they saw some potential in him as songwriter and because his looks weren't all that bad. They didn't put him into a vocal position though. It was pretty clear from the beginning that his voice was more suitable as rapper than as vocalist and Chiwoong, being the good and obedient person he is, accepted that decision. Most people who make the shift from singer to rapper in their trainee period don't become the strongest rappers out there, just because you're not a good vocalist, doesn't mean you'll be good rapper. But YG made the right decision with Chiwoong. Not only did he get a hang of it pretty soon, he also seemed to be quite talented in it. Was he on the same level as Bobby and Mino at that time yet? Not at all. But with some more practice he could definitely become a main rapper.

Though not everything at YG went well. Some of the trainees sensed some favoritism for Chiwoong. Chiwoong could continue his parttime jobs, he could sleep at home, while most of the trainees, even the youngsters stayed day and night in the training buildings, dorms or school. Also Chiwoong was a person that broke YG property several time (by accident) and could get away with some light scolding while the others got a harder time. Even though Chiwoong was a social and easygoing person, he had a hard time making friends in YG but Chiwoong wasn't there to make friends, he was there to become an idol. 

Years of training passed and Chiwoong neither got selected to participate in WIN or Mix and Match, which a lot. No, not just a lot he was very close to leaving the company and take over his mother's spot in the foodstall of his grandparents. Also YG  was getting tired of taking care of the mess Chiwoong tended to make. They made a deal with him, he would go to SMTM and if he came back before the mic passing round, he could take his bags and go, if he did better they migth consider giving him a solo debut. There finally shone a light at the end of the tunnel that was practicing under YG. Full of courage Chiwoong accepted the deal.

SMTM6
Show Me The Money was definitely quite an experience for Chiwoong, who went there with the stagename DYCE. Unlike the previous 3 years that YG sent trainees and idols to the programs, they didn't want to mention the kid was a trainee under them. Because they knew he would fail and didn't want to associate with him? Who knows. That was a mistake though. Chiwoong gathered quite some attention from the crowd after approaching everyone in a 10 m radius around him. Though no one expected the boy to be actually good. He didn't have that typical rapper appearance, not did he look very idol like yet. He was just a goodlooking schoolboy in most people's eyes. Though when Choiza finally stood in front of him people didn't seem to see an ordinary schoolboy anymore but a more than decent rapper. Yet the rap that convinced Choiza to give Chiwoong the necklace, didn't got aired on television. 

In the second round Chiwoong got more attention of the cameras, and probably for the wrong reason. He was still dressed as the ideal son in law and just sat there between all those baggy pants and oversized sweat shirts. But that was not the reason he got some attention. When it was finally time to  get to the stage in front of all the producers, Chiwoong's bad luck started. In the hallways to the stage, he bumped into Dean, one of the producers, causing the man to drop his drink on the YG trainee. So after throwing "no, it's my fault" back and forth for at least a full 2 minutes, Chiwoong moved towards the stage, with a huge stain on his shirt. But Chiwoong wouldn't be Chiwoong if his bad luck ended with just some dirty shirt.

Our boy was sweating... and not even a bit, but that might be because of the spotlights that shined very brightly. Or that was at least his explanation for it. After having a whole discussion why his shirt looked the way it did with the producers it was finally time to shine for the boy. He took a few deep breaths before the song started. Once it started and Chiwoong opened his mouth he realized that it wasn't the song he had sent in. The poor kid froze completely. While he was completely capable of freestyling, he just blocked completely. With the mic in his his hand, almost lifelessly dangling beside his body, he descended into the flames. And that's how he got eliminated on SMTM.

SM
Not only got he eliminated from SMTM, he got also eliminated from YG's training program like that.Of course, Chiwoong was heartbroken about this. Luckily for him his months out of the training  system  were  rather  limited  because  SM,  who  had  their  connections  with  snakenet -excuse me, mnet- informed them that this goodlooking rapper that apparently seemed to be a YG trainee, had cancelled his training contract with the company. SM didn't had to think twice when they rewatched his audition video again along with the unaired fragment of his rap. His visuals could work in an SM group as well. So they reached out to him. Chiwoong couldn't believe his ears when he got offered to become a trainee at SM. 

Training in the SLJK-B program was a lot different from YG. YG was tough but wowza what was SLJK-B. Luckily Chiwoong was used to pulling allnighters and practicing till his legs gave out because that was needed in SM. Though things were hard for him, he saw other trainees struggling more and would help them whenever he could. He makes sure everyone of the trainees is still feeling well after hours of practice and listens to everyone's intake when working on evaluation routines. He just wants everyone to do well so they could all debut together.

We have to admit, Chiwoong's nose doesn't look the way it used to do in the past. It's true that he had quite a crooked nose and got surgery for it right before entering SM entertainment, but probably would have gotten it even if he stayed in YG. He would be YG visual material with a nice nose. Of course because he got his nose done so obviously, there were rumors that he got other procedures as well, which isn't true. He tries to deny the fact that he got his nose done, but will get extremely nervous about it, so It's clear he's lying about it.

We love Chiwoong, but the kid is clumsy af. While wanting to go to the bathroom when shooting an mv, he rushed right beside a camera what caused it to fall. He has broken many things in his life but none quite as expensive as the camera. It was needless to say that  he wouldn't recieve any money for the next few months.

Even though Youngji is the daughter of his mom and a man Chiwoong absolutely hated, Youngji is everything for Chiwoong. He will do everything for his little princess and won't even allow s to see pictures of her. He will keep her away from fansigns as much as possible and would rather die than to answer the question "who in your group would you introduce to your sister." half of them are too old for her and even the youngest members, how much Chiwoong loves them, will never be able to come close to his everything.

 

"I don't even want to tell you all her name, you might look her up on facebook and start annoying her and before you know it you're my brother in law and that's something I would like to avoid." - Chiwoong, starting to overexplain when asked who of s he would allow his sister to date.

Jason and Chiwoongs friendship dates back from a few months before Chiwoong joined SM entertainment. The two of them were placed in the same block on SMTM and got to know eachother a bit before getting judged by Choiza. There was immediately some kind of click between the two of them and they couldn't be happier to find out that the two of them passed the first round. They got close in a relatively short time period as Chiwoong got eliminated on the show soon after. When the two of them met again at SM the two were out of their minds of happiness. Jason might not always listen to Chiwoong but he is more than a decent sub-captain, Chiwoong thinks.

Chiwoong and Dean met eachother at SMTM thanks to the coffee incident. Their whole first meeting was a mess but then there was their second meeting, which was... awkward. Let's be honest, nothing about this meeting could not be awkward. Not only did the older male spill his drink on him, he also sent him into the firepit aka one of the biggest embarrassements of a SMTM contestant. Not that Chiwoong was mad or so, it was sort of his own fault. Though after quite an awkward conversation they exchanged numbers. Chiwoong just really wanted to pay the coffee back and Dean, Dean just felt bad for the kid. What made the older feel even worse was the fact that YG sort of kept his promise, throwing Chiwoong out when he didn't meet the requirements. Dean was the one that kept on supporting Chiwoong and convinced him to accept SM's offer. Even though because of the thight practice schedule, the two weren't able to meet up or talk a lot, their friendship only grew more and more over time.
