News came and it was out that Jongdae and his wife gave birth to their first child!

sudden announcement

Last January, Chen of EXO revealed that he has a girlfriend and are expecting a child. Through a handwritten letter, he announced his future plans regarding the sudden situation he presented to his fans. He stated that he was with someone that he really wanted to spend the rest of his life with.

Because of this sudden announcement, many opinions were raised by thousands, and even millions of people- fans and nonfans alike. Many k-fans didn't like it the slightest, even going to the point of having a protest for removing Chen from the group. But, most fans, especially international fans, raised their voices of support for Chen's personal life and his decisions in life.

toxic kpop culture

Though it was a sudden announcement to take in, it brought to the surface the toxicity of KPOP fans in nature.

Well, it wasn't new but it just emphasized it even more. The toxic culture of fans thinking they somewhat own their idols. The mindset that idols are deemed less attractive if they are dating, and even lose fans in their decision to be with someone they love. This causes the idols to have their relationships in secret from the public, just to not let their relationship be brought up and have many be opposed to their private life.

This mindset, I admit, is one of the mindset I had as an early KPOP fan.

Often times, our idols are giving us the service that they were our boyfriends or at least that kind of idea. As a young fan, I totally would swoon over my biases whatever they do. This would lead to me thinking of scenarios and even fantasies that this KPOP idol is somewhat in a relationship with me.

Reality striked when one of my biases that time, 2014, Byun Baekhyun, was revealed to be dating SNSD's Taeyeon. I immediately went into the bandwagon that I hated this Taeyeon for dating the bias of my life. I participated with the hate even if I do not know anything about this SNSD member that time, at all. Which is dumb and stupid. I know.

Which is why I understand the hate and negative comments that Chen received when he announced that he had a girlfriend and even expecting a child.

What I meant to say when I understand where these antis was that I know what mindset they were in right now.

But I am in no way condoning it at this present times. These fans, like my past self, were just being selfish and brutal for the idols thinking they were in someways in charge of the idols' lives.

What made me realize that this mindset was wrong was when I saw a quote, which I forgot who said, was "If you cannot stay after marriage, you're not really in for the music," which is not the exact words but the same meaning. It made me think that what got me into KPOP was really their attractiveness, but what made me stay for it was the music they were giving to the people.

So through this announcement that our Jongdae is now a proud dad of a baby girl, let's stay loyal and be happy that the man we supported came up to us to tell us the biggest blessing of his life.

Through the handwritten letter, I honestly can feel his sincerity of being apologetic but still proud and convicted to his own family now. He doesn't have to be apologetic for being a human being, that's how I felt when he apologized for this announcement, but really- would you apologize for loving someone? No. No one should apologize for being in a healthy relationship with someone.

That's why I am very much emotional over this whole thing because it just showed that Jongdae was such a sincere guy, not only to his fans, but to his own family now. Having a child is no joke. So he decided to finally come out and just lay it flat that he is going to be a father. And now he is.

So, Kim Jongdae, EXO's main vocal and our little dinosaur, we are happy for you.

And let's stay one as we are one.
