황새론 AND 김승민 ARE SERVING YOU!
BIRTHNAME 강새론, hwang saeron
NICKNAMES
ronsae it's not something most people would know, but ronsae is actually her lifelong nickname. to be fair, if saeron tried just a little harder, smiled a little more and actually talked to people, maybe she'd have more friends who'd call her ronsae.
ghost girl saeron rarely talks and not many people at school know much about her, they don't even know who she is. her tendency to enter rooms unannounced is definitely a little spooky, but she's the type to avoid people and go about her business peacefully. somehow, though, this has still managed to earn her a reputation as "ghost girl". she's even had people come up to talk to her to prove that she's a ghost. are you ing serious? boo, bye.
gangster, delinquent seeing how she reportedly "doesn't talk" (she just doesn't blab obnoxiously like some people), people at school don't know much about saeron. with her prickly disposition, resting blank face, vulgar words and her all black attire, the second most popular (but certainly less believable) rumor about saeron is that she's a gangster. no one's called her this to her face like they do with ghost girl (thank ing god), but she knows it's what some people think of her.
chef "well, my food is ing great," saeron says like she always does when she wants to convince the girls that she's unbothered. being a chef is saeron's dream and, ever since the pureuda girls discovered the effect that this nickname has on her, they've started teasing her with it. no matter how many glares and (highly) unsavory words saeron shoots their way, they refuse to stop. with someone as composed as her, it's fun to pierce her armor and finally see her crack. if you could see how shy she gets all of a sudden, blushing and trying to keep a straight face, you'd join in on it too.
AGE eighteen
BIRTHPLACE seoul, south korea
ETHNICITY korean
NATIONALITY south korean
LANGUAGES SPOKEN
korean native. the only words saeron doesn't use sparingly are cuss words, which embellish a good amount of her sentences. otherwise, her calm and steady voice isn't heard very often.
english upper intermediate. saeron supposes she's average at english or whatever, she's never particularly struggled with it at school. her pronunciation is very nice, but she makes grammar mistakes and her vocabulary is average.
i don't ing smell like meat

APPEARANCE if you need confirmation that people are dumb, saeron thinks the fact that people call her a ghost is proof of that in and of itself. she knows that if she bothered to brush her hair every morning and keep it out of her face, the idea of her being a spirit wouldn't cross anyone's mind.
the truth —that even saeron will deny and blush a little about later, when no one can see her— is she hides some really pretty and delicate features and a rather likeable personality behind those walls of hair and blank expressions. you didn't hear it from her, but saeron looks totally different when she has her hair up in the pureuda kitchen and peeks through the doors to see how the customers react to her side dishes. it's like the mask falls off, her eyes sparkle, and ghost girl is left behind like a halloween costume.
SUGAR AND ICE PERSONALITY
honest, protective, innovative, diligent, good natured
quiet, awkward, sensitive, cold, distrustful, unpleasant
STEPFORD SNARKER
leaning back on her seat at the corner of the class with her hair over her face, saeron doesn't look particularly approachable. her voice is quiet, her signature blank expression is semi-permanent and her vocabulary can get pretty pg-13. girls like saeron are made of huffs and darkness and they're probably plotting a way to either kill you or disappear without a trace.
except she's not. the collage of assumptions people tend to make about saeron are just misconstructions. she's an awkward kid at heart, a misunderstood introvert who's never been the most eager or the most adept in the face of... well, people. endearingly honest, saeron's the type to say "that was awkward" and make the conversation even more awkward than it was. her only claim to fame, being their school's resident ghost girl, is merely a result of the many times she quietly went about her business and didn't know how to tell her oblivious classmates that she was right there. that's so embarrassing.
deep down, saeron is a sweet kid. she's creative and persistent and surprisingly dilligent. when she's cooking, she zeroes in and sets aside all her thorny words to do the best job she can. she expresses her love through sarcasm and pretending to indulge her friends with her smiles, but her appreciation is genuine. she's not the friend who tackles you into hugs, but she looks after her loved ones in ways they might not even realize.
the thing about saeron, though, is that not many people know this side of her. for all she tries to hide it, she cares. it's not nice to be disconnected from her peers, to have no support from her parents and feel like she has no one to turn to now that her sister's far away. so the saeron she shows to the world is an aloof closed off girl who doesn't need anyone. misunderstood as she might be, saeron does her part in order to keep people away. she can be unnecessarily mean and purposefully do things to shut others out because she'd rather be by herself. in the back of her mind, she's afraid of being a disappointment, of getting too attached and getting hurt.
tl;dr: misunderstood emo kid and edgelord extraordinaire. quiet, #edgy, avoids ppl and pushes ppl away, pretends not to care, all that good stuff. mouth of a sailor and keeps up badass image but actually kinda soft and loving bc i'm cliche. loves cooking so much it's not even funny.
BACKGROUND born and raised in seoul, saeron's mom works an office job and her dad's a teacher, so she was no stranger to spending the afternoons after school in her grandma's house with her older sister while her parents worked full time.
it's hard to pinpoint when and where saeron's passion for cooking began to grow. maybe it was back in her grandma's kitchen while her sister watched tv, maybe when goo rani, once her best friend in the whole wide world, talked about her parents' bbq place like it meant everything to her. one thing's for sure: everyone can and will tell you that cooking is hwang saeron's thing.
that's why these last couple of years have been so hard for her (the term she prefers is " ", but i digress). with her sister studying abroad in the states, saeron's had to face high school and her parents on her own. cooking is a joke to them and their academic expectations of her get higher and higher as the days go by. so saeron has experienced a unique sort of metamorphosis, one in which she takes the awkward quiet kid she used to be and uses her closed off and seemingly stoic disposition to navigate this confusing world.
and that's what makes goo rani looking for people to work at her parents' place such a good opportunity for saeron. it's a way to gain experience, prove that she's serious about cooking and maybe even reconnect with her old best friend.
tl;dr: rani's childhood bff, has been into cooking ever since she can remember, parents aren't supportive of it. sister who she was close to moved to the states to study abroad. kinda going through an emo phase but less angsty... an edgelord phase mayb

PERSONALITY TRAITS closed-off, resonable, diligent, caring, snarky, observant, easy-going, inscrutable.
PERSONALITY seungmin seems like your run-of-the-mill kind of quiet but chill guy. he takes his time to warm up to new people and new situations but, whenever you see him, he has this lighthearted and easy attitude to him. he seems distant, maybe, but overall pleasant. truthfully, that can be just a little bit misleading. in actuality and simply put, seungmin is the embodiment of chaotic neutral. every single one of his friends can attest to the fact that he would sell their souls to the devil for a single corn chip if he was bored enough.
they probably get this (not necessarily wrong) impression of him because seungmin has his together a reasonable amount for a high schooler. he wouldn't say he has more willpower than the average person, he just uses it to practice good habits (you will not catch him awake at 3 a.m like you will some people). he's the friend who somehow, for some reason, stays sane while everyone else goes through their sad boy hours and/or dumb hours. many a time has he found himself catching other people doing dumb and unreasonable things, like how saeron tries to cover for her awkwardness by attempting to be badass or how rani insists she doesn't have a crush on na jaemin from chingu because he's "the enemy". like it or not, it provides him with a good amount of teasing material.
seungmin is part annoying younger sibling, part mom friend: he can seem like he couldn't care less about you, he will tease you for no reason, he might not be very wordy or very emotional, but he's always there for his friends. in that silent yet strong and sturdy way, he cares. whether you want to have a good time, to laugh at him grumbling in disbelief at the fact that you collectively share one braincell or to have someone make fun of your bad decisions (because you're a clown and you deserve it), he's your guy.
tl;dr: don't trust that face of his, mans is truly chaotic neutral. can be shockingly responsible though and has good habits, won't hesitate to clown anyone. easy to more or less get to know, hard to get close to.
LOVE STORY seungmin's family runs a convenience store in saeron's neighborhood. for years, it was saeron and bomi's go-to place to have junk food after school. nothing you can possibly buy in a store like that is exactly healthy or necessary, but even an aspiring chef like saeron can't help but wander through the aisles and leave with a sugary or sodium-loaded purchase.
so when her sister left, it made all the more sense for saeron to keep visiting the store. hell, she began stopping by even more. sometimes she'd just buy some juice and do her schoolwork there in one of their little tables instead of going to a study room or a hagwon. and that's how she discovered seungmin existed. some days, this little dude who was most likely her age would man the register. most importantly, though, he was the only intellectual who played rock music.
that's how they got to know each other. just small comments here and there about the playlist, then studying the same subjects separately, right across from each other, then bonding over music and song recommendations. before she knows it, they're sharing a table and going through a bag of doritos on a day when business is slow.
"they're sisters," seungmin says, pointing at the tv with the remote while an old irrelevant drama is playing.
saeron instinctively slaps him in the arm. this is betrayal. "you knew all this time?"
seungmin shrugs. "they always play re-runs!" he says in a what was i supposed to do tone, "and i didn't think you would get invested in dramas..."
"i don't get invested in dramas."
he just stares at her and laughs in response.
" you," saeron says as she goes in for a dorito. "wait! don't change the chan- i mean, it's cool."
so maybe saeron likes seungmin. maybe. but maybe he's just one of the people she's less awkward around and maybe he was her best friend when she felt like . maybe she does her schoolwork at the store not only give the education system the middle finger but also because it helps to see seungmin right across her actually doing his work.
the thing is seungmin, like all the other normal teenagers, has friends who he gets along with very well. friends who aren't saeron. and a good amount of them at that. so while saeron considers him her best friend, she doubts he has any reason to think the same. even if saeron did like seungmin, why would she tell him that when he probably considers her a stranger?
saeron is also scared because she can't hide many things from seungmin (he says it's because they're more similar than she thinks). if she were to talk to him about her feelings and he eventually said he didn't feel the same (the only possible answer, of course), there's no way he wouldn't notice her very dumb reaction to that.
what matters most is that they're still friends, right? and saeron is happy enough with that. what matters most is that they're still around each other. when she applies for the job at pureuda, she drags seungmin instantly. partly because she's going to miss him, partly because she's not sure she'll be able to function normally among all these girls she doesn't know unless her best friend is there and partly because his parents obviously don't pay seungmin for taking care of the store and if saeron has to hear him say he wants a real job one more time—.
