I am horrified.
Hi guys, I'm sure you've all heard about the Wuhan virus/Coronavirus and how it's spreading around to multiple different countries across the world right now. This blog post will be about racism, so I'll put a trigger warning right here. I have previously talked about this topic - I did not feel safe in my area because of the glares I got from Caucasians. Well today, March 13th, 2020, this situation escalated into something I never thought would happen to me.
I had just finished work and was heading home. It was nearing rush hour so I hopped on the train, looking for a seat because I had been working since 6:30 AM in the morning, and it was 4:05 PM at the time. I noticed an elderly woman, roughly 60-70ish or more of age, sitting with her legs up on the seats, holding a paper towel to . I thought this woman was being cautious about the surroundings, because of the outbreaks, which honestly, is quite reasonable. I didn't think too much of it until I took a seat across from her, and received multiple death glares from her. For the next 3 minutes, the woman sent glares, gave me the middle finger multiple times. I ignored her and the train stopped at the next station, where a Chinese man was talking on the phone, sat down two seats away from her. Then all hell broke loose. The woman started taunting the man, berating him with racist insults. The man hung up the phone and asked what the problem is. The woman then launched verbal attacks at the man, berating him, and the situation escalated where the woman went full-blown racist, calling Chinese people disgusting and so on. I had never felt so much anger in my life before. I filmed about 8 minutes of footage before my phone died.
This is disgusting.
Stay safe.
