face claim

backup face claim

if i could turn back time, i'd do it in a flash

appearance: nothing too different from faceclaim; her hair is dyed brown and she has a mole on her right shoulder; she's on the shorter side (162cm) but her weight is proportional (59kg).

style: she prefers looser clothes like big t-shirts and sweaters and always wears jeans and converse sneakers. she hates sandals and sometimes wears flats when she's going to a formal event. at home, she likes to wear sweatpants and a plain tshirt. during the winter, she bundles up in a puffy coat, scarf, and hat and gloves and you can't even tell who she is anymore. she likes to wear red, pink, and blue, but usually, she ends up wearing black the most.

Personality traits:
+ outgoing, supportive, hardworking - whiny, stubborn, insensitive

personality:
sihyun is loud. she's the one everyone hears before they see, and she's the first one to greet anyone who happens to walk by. she's loud and outgoing and always ready to make friends, and she's touchy-feely, always hanging onto the person next to her. you'll never find her alone, and you'll never find her quiet. she's usually smiling or laughing or talking to her friends. she's also a great friend; she supports you no matter what you do, and she'll always make herself available as a shoulder to cry on or just someone to rant to. that's one of the rare times she'll be quiet. she genuinely cares about her friends' wellbeings, and she's willing to do anything to make sure her friends are happy. she's also extremely hardworking. she doesn't feel like she has many natural talents, so she works extra hard to keep up and improve.

but, as all things come, as vocal as sihyun is good, it's also bad. she's whiny. like, as . she'll always complain about anything slightly inconvenient, and you bet your she's the one groaning and about the test next week she hasn't studied for, or the amount of homework her math teacher gives, or how much she procrastinates... and on top of that, she's stubborn. she won't listen to a single thing anyone tells her unless they're authority or she thinks it sounds somewhat logical. she always says she'll change, but in reality, she keeps it up for like two days and then goes back to her own ways. she also has a tendency to say things without thinking, which makes her seem insensitive to other ppl's feelings. in reality, she might not really be like that, but it depends on her mood. some days, she just feels mean.

(ofc, you can definitely dampen her down because... well, her sister died! i was just thinking that maybe because her sister died and she's alone, she wants to make sure that no one else is alone and sad too, and that helps her forget that she's sad too)

Background:
sihyun was born on a day of early snow. her sister siyoon immediately loved her, and they had a fairly normal childhood and grew up together. sihyun wasn't always the most cooperative kid, which gave siyoon a hard time babysitting, but nonetheless, the sisters loved each other very much, and siyoon often took sihyun around town.

she was only eight years old when siyoon died. sihyun remembers because she couldn't fall asleep unless siyoon read her a book, but siyoon never came home, and her mom read her a book. she still couldn't fall asleep, and instead tossed and turned in bed. when she was just about to fall asleep, she heard a loud knocking and thought it must be siyoon. sihyun had just opened her bedroom door when she heard her mother scream.

at first, sihyun didn't know what to feel. she wasn't... sad, but she knew she should be. it just felt like siyoon had gone on vacation for a really long time. but then, at the funeral, burying an empty casket, sihyun felt something in her break, and she realized that her sister was really gone, and she'd never see her again.

sihyun fell into a depression. her grades fell, and she rebelled against her teachers and parents, running away to the park when she was supposed to be in school. her parents were scared and didn't want to lose their other child too, so they pulled her from school for a bit so that she could go to therapy and recover, as well as keep tabs on her whereabouts.

through therapy, sihyun realized that her sister wouldn't want her to be sad all her life. it took years, but finally, sihyun returned to public school for high school, ready to take on life again with a new perspective, holding her sister's dreams with her too. she got amazing grades, great friends, and was planning to study biology when everything turned upside down again.

relationships:
friend | shin yuna | 17 | bubbly, cheerful, cool, bratty | sihyun has a lot of classes with yuna, so they're pretty good friends. however, yuna can be a little annoying sometimes, so sihyun doesn't want to get too close to her (faceclaim: itzy's yuna)

mother | lee woohee | 42 | quiet, gentle, worried | after siyoon died, she rarely laughs or smiles anymore. she worries a lot about sihyun but understands that she has her own path to take and that she can't look after forever

acquaintance | ran yunkyung | 17 | observant, responsible, resentful | sihyun doesn't really know yunkyung, but they're in a few classes together, and she knows that she's good at skating. other than a few projects or classworks, they haven't talked to each other much

their story:
siyoon was a bright and cheerful person, cute by nature, and always willing to help anyone who needed help. she often volunteered at the animal shelter or at the retirement home, and most people who knew her liked her. she was an excellent student and was on the track to being a biology major in college.

being so much older than sihyun, siyoon naturally took up the role of a nurturing older sister. she took care of siyoon and from the time sihyun was five until siyoon's death, their mother basically didn't have to worry about sihyun at all. siyoon liked to take sihyun to the park to play with all the other children and help her with her homework. of course, there were times when sihyun was annoying and siyoon didn't want to deal with it, so she simply told her mother and locked herself in her room. most of the times, though, siyoon wanted to spend all the time she could with her baby sister.
while siyoon wasn't familiar with the convicted, she knew a few of the victims. haekyung was in her math class, and they sometimes texted each other to ask about math problems. euisik, as well, was in her math class, and though they didn't talk, she might have had a crush on him.

the funeral was simple and hushed. their family didn't have many relatives, so the only people who attended were the family themselves and a few of siyoon's close friends. the casket was empty and nailed shut, and when they were lowering it into the ground, sihyun broke down and had to be taken away. she wouldn't stop crying, and halfway through, it started raining, making the burial even harder. it seemed like the whole world was against them that day.

Does your character know about Noctis? no, what's that? some sort of videogame? i don't play those.

how did your character deal with your sibling's death/conviction? badly. i went to therapy for a long time, and even now, sometimes i just break down in the middle of the day because the pain hits me. i don't think i'll ever forget her, but i'm doing all i can to remember her.

describe how your character feels about being dragged into this situation? i... honestly, i have no clue. i'm scared, definitely, but also, if i can find out more about my sister's death... my parents never told me anything, but i want to know. i want to know what happened to her.
the world is cruel, and by god, i will not go down without a fight

Comments: i think i implied this already, but sihyun's parents didn't tell her anything about siyoon's death except that she was dead. also, i hope you don't mind that i used binnie (who's a 97liner) instead of a 95liner ;; i just thought she looked similar to sohee haha

Questions:
Suggestions:
- i put yuna in her relations because i wanted her to be the only friend to support sihyun through the whole story
- a flashback of the funeral
- maybe the 'clues' or whatever reference a tiger lily (or later in the story, there's a tiger lily at a very ominous part of the story) and sihyun just breaks down
- totally optional but sihyun could get a crush on one of the other characters (anyone goes)
