+ loyal, motherly, humorous, thoughtful
= whimsical, realistic, distrustful
- impatient, rash, violent, moody

elaboration /
► moonhwan is loyal. if he likes you and you've done enough to gain his trust, he'll follow you to the ends of the world. this isn't always great, though, since he could get involved with bad ppl like criminals, but he's smart and usually doesn't get in trouble. usually, that is. he's also the resident mom friend, even though he's young, and he will smother you in affection, whether or not you want it. his affection is actually sort of greasy, like a y older brother type, but hey, if he likes you, you can't escape it. it's also nice since he genuinely cares, and he'll take time out of his own schedule to listen to your problems. he'll help you try to solve them too, and he'll try to give you advice on how to deal with it. he's the kind of person to notice the small details, like how badly does that injury actually hurt, oh you don't want to talk when you're in a bad mood, you like this food and this other person likes that food, etc. he remembers the small details and tries to make his friends' lives that much better by catering to them specifically. he's also quite cheerful and has a strong sense of humor. of course, it's mostly dirty and/or self-deprecating (" is using a feather, is using the whole chicken..." / "what does a 75 woman have between her that a 25 year old girl doesn't? her navel LOL" reference to saggy lmao). but fr, due to his thoughtful nature, if you need a real pick-me-up, moonhwan will have one ("a man showed up to a duel with nothing but paper and a pencil. he then proceeded to DRAW his weapon").

what a boy lol. but this boi has like zero patience. he asks you smth and if you didn't hear him or you need to think about it, almost immediately, he gets all pissy and ask someone else, cursing at you under his breath. like ?? give me a single second? due to this, he's also quite rash and makes on-the-whim decisions. oh, you didn't apologize to me after you accidentally bumped into me? LET'S GO BRO. seriously, this dude is dumb when it comes to things like this!! it's almost hypocritical lol. if it wasn't already obvious, moonhwan is slightly violent... ironic for a mom friend? he's already ready to fiteTM and actually, he can knock out some pretty good fighters. he's not bad at fighting despite his small physique and knows how to use the surroundings to his advantage. of course, being violent isn't necessarily a good thing, and he gets hurt a lot when he does it. his mood literally changes like lightning, like if he's originally in a good mood but then smth displeases him, even if it was trivial, he'll get angry like god himself sent down a thunderstorm. on the contrary, it's almost scary how quickly he can change from angry to happy. like if he's just ranting about smth and you approach him (you have nothing to do with the matter), he'll immediately perk up and face you all cheerily like he wasn't just muttering death threats about someone...

if everything is going smoothly, moonhwan gives off the vibe of a cheerful, airheaded kid. he can be fairly whimsical and just talk about the randomest things ("do you think animals can fall in love with us? what do you think happens when we die?"). he enjoys some deep talk, but the downside to that is he usually feels really sad afterwards ;; (nothing a good sleep can't fix though). he's surprisingly realistic, having grown up poor, and does not harbor any high-flying dreams. all he wants is revenge... but we'll talk about that later. it might seem conflicting to have both distrustful and loyal as personality traits, but moonhwan honestly doesn't trust many ppl. he doesn't like to be vulnerable, so he trusts only those who have proven themselves, which means he doesn't make many true friends since, well, most people leave. however, when he does make friends, he's loyal to them for just about the rest of his life.

background
► moonhwan grew up in a large port city in hwail. his parents worked on the docks, and he had an older brother, moonchul, who was two years older than him. for the majority of his childhood, moonhwan thought that his life was pretty normal, if not great. his father was made dock/pier manager when moonhwan was five years old, and he made a lot of powerful connections. one day, one of his father's friends came to stay at their house. back then, moonhwan was a shy kid, so he didn't really want to socialize with his father's friend. but the friend had a kid too! the kid was called wooyoung, and he was around moonhwan's age, so they quickly became friends. wooyoung, being much bolder than moonhwan, often dragged him around town to get into trouble. although moonhwan was slightly intimidated at first, he eventually grew to love adventure just as much as wooyoung.

they didn't see each other often, since wooyoung was a part of a band of pirates who only stopped in town every four months. in the meantime, moonhwan went to school. he genuinely loved to learn, but he also wanted to run around outside and play. as a result, he didn't have very good grades, although many of his peers liked to hang out with him. his brother, on the other hand, was an excellent student, and his parents often scolded moonhwan for not paying attention in class. "you're the son of a manager! if you don't do well, people are going to make fun of you!"

when moonhwan was 11, his father was demoted for seemingly no reason at all. moonhwan and moonchul were pulled from school, and the family ended up living in a small dirty shack in the middle of town. everyone seemed to be sad, and it seemed like moonhwan was the only one in the dark about what had happened. moonhwan's father found a manual labor job, but the money wasn't enough to keep the family fed. moonhwan and moonchul often sat on the streets and begged for money or food, but in the bad part of town, no one cared about two starving kids because everyone was starving. in the midst of hardship, a gang of older kids came and 'adopted' moonhwan and moonchul, teaching them how to survive on the streets. like that, moonhwan became a prolific thief, stealing to help his family survive. his parents, of course, didn't suspect a thing, and just thought that people took pity on young children. for a while, life seemed okay again, even if they were still poor, and moonhwan thought that he could get used to this life.

when moonhwan was 12, he came home one day to blood all over the place, his father gone, and his mother half-dead. with her last breath (is this too dramatic?), his mother revealed that his father was the son of a prominent beorc official in yul who believe that the laguz should become extinct. his father, never having believed in this philosophy, left for hwail and married a laguz tiger girl. now, however, with war on the horizon, the beorc official ordered his son be brought back to him, and if he refused, to exterminate him and his entire family. moonhwan had always known that he was branded, but he never imagined that his own grandfather would be hunting him down. before dying, his mother begged him to run and disappear from the public eye.

the brothers sank into their own deep depressions and stayed with the gang of older kids. the gang leader, jinhoo, offered to take them in permanently. 'you'll be safe with us, no one cares who you are here.' moonchul wanted to take him up on the offer, but moonhwan knew that he couldn't. after the numbness wore off, the only thing left in him was anger, destroying him from the inside. he needed to avenge his parents. he needed to make sure that his grandfather died a painful death. his brother, in a rare show of vulnerability, begged him to stay, but he just couldn't, not until his grandfather died by his hands. the day he decided to leave, he passed by the docks again. oh, right, wooyoung would be coming back today. moonhwan took the chance to tell wooyoung about what had happened and what he planned to do, but wooyoung responded extremely badly. he didn't even let moonhwan finish speaking before leaving, and though he was sad to lose his friend, moonhwan supposed it was better than getting him mixed up in everything that's happened.

all moonhwan knew was that he needed to get to yul. he was ready to resort to anything. with only one dagger and a knapsack of food (courtesy of the gang), moonhwan set off. he knew he had to steal, but it was just sheer luck that the first person he stole from was an assassin... it was really pure luck that he didn't die right then and there. as it was, the assassin, seunghyun, decided to take him in and train him. [here it gets iffy because i'm not familiar with the game DD: but basically seunghyun is a beorc who has no problem with laguz and when moonhwan tells him why he needs to go to yul, he totally supports him but he needs training.]

when moonhwan turns 16, he's like yo i'm ready and they go to yul. they probably take a while and go through the woods, and i'm thinking they maybe portray themselves as mercenaries (moonhwan pretends to be mute so he won't have to open his mouth) and just do odd jobs while trying to figure out where moonhwan's grandfather is?? and maybe they're still trying to find information but they're really close to killing his grandfather when suddenly moonhwan gets drafted into the war on yul's side. seunghyun promises to kill his grandfather for him, but now, moonhwan's goal is to kill as many yul soldiers as he can without getting caught, or at the very least, impede his platoon and stop them from killing anyone. he's still pretending that he's mute, so he can't talk at all and can barely smile.

during training for the army, he meets a boy slightly older than himself called jinhwan. jinhwan is short, but he's an experienced fighter, and he decides to take moonhwan under his wing without question. moonhwan's not sure what to make of this. jinhwan doesn't question his muteness and oftentimes speaks on his behalf, but on the other hand, jinhwan hates the laguz with a passion for no reasonable reason. still, moonhwan decides that it's too dangerous to hate him right now, so he makes sure to get along with jinhwan. when they're separated into tents to go into war, moonhwan and jinhwan are paired up with two other guys, junhoe and wooshin, and moonhwan finds with surprise that he actually quite likes all of them. they all take care of him because he's the youngest, they all like to make jokes, and when they're just hanging together, he can almost forget that they're at war and that the other three discriminate against the laguz...

they're allowed to write home, but moonhwan never does. he can't expose seunghyun. the other three realize this and assume he's an orphan (they don't know any better; moonhwan never told them about his family), which makes them take care of him even more. the conflict tears moonhwan apart; during battles, he has to keep up a front of attacking when he's really doing nothing, and sometimes he even kills the other people in the platoon. but he genuinely shields his friends and doesn't want to see them hurt. what is he supposed to do, abandon them once they can't avoid killing hwail? is he supposed to tell them the truth? moonhwan doubts that they'll accept him if they find out the truth... that's a bridge to be crossed once they get there.

once his grandfather dies, moonhwan thinks that he'll leave yul. however, he finds himself caring a lot about his tentmates (not much about the rest of the army, though) and he almost wants to stay just so he can definitely continue to protect them. it's somewhat of a conflict for him, and there are pros and cons to both. if he stays, he can continue to be a mole (although unknown) for the hwail army, but if he leaves, he'll be able to act on his own accords and join the hwail army. regardless, though, he knows that he's been dragged too deep into the war to just leave and meet up with seunghyun again.

► jung wooyoung | branded | swordmaster | wind
wooyoung was moonhwan's best friend as a kid, but they never saw each other often since wooyoung was always at sea. when wooyoung heard about moonhwan's plan to go to yul, he ran away and they haven't seen each other since. sometimes, moonhwan wants to see him again and explain his motives. fc: ateez's wooyoung

► song seunghyun | beorc | assassin | wind
seunghyun was the first person that moonhwan stole from on his journey to yul. thankfully, seunghyun didn't kill him because he'd also been there once, and instead took him in and trained him. after a while, moonhwan felt comfortable enough to tell him about his plan, and seunghyun totally supported him. when moonhwan turned 16, they headed off to yul to help him avenge his parents. fc: ftisland's song seunghyun

► kim jinhwan | beorc | rogue | wind
jinhwan took moonhwan under his wing when they joined the yul army. he's prime dad friend material, took pity on the mute kid, and decided that he would become his friend. he took it upon himself to take care of him, but he's also extremely prejudiced against the laguz for no good reason. jinhwan doesn't talk about it a lot, though, since he realizes that it makes moonhwan uncomfortable, and his primary goal is to make sure that moonhwan feels cared for.

HQruK6b9_400x400.jpg
► koo junhoe | beorc | warrior | anima
junhoe is another soldier in moonhwan and jinhwan's tent. he has a tendency to joke around, which brings him closer to moonhwan, and they can trade dirty jokes all day and night. however, he is also extremely biased against the laguz, believing them to be the scum of the earth. he does not have any subletly and is extremely opinionated, and it makes moonhwan digusted when he talks about his opinions.

tGmos-Oa_400x400.jpg
► kim wooseok | beorc | sniper | light
wooseok goes by the name wooshin, and he, by comparison, does not hate the laguz or branded half as much as jinhwan and junhoe do. he's also a bit of a mom friend, taking care of his tentmates like a true mom would. moonhwan sometimes fights with him to take care of their friends, but in reality, moonhwan likes wooshin better than the other people in the tent. probably.

//// yul////
class / thief
affinity / ice
weapon / knife/dagger

brand / moonhwan's brand is fangs. they cannot be passed off as simply long canines since they very obviously extend past his bottom lip when he smiles. his power is the ability to project a shield around himself and his allies for a set amount of time. the time of the shield depends on the range of the shield, which depends on how many allies he has. the more allies, the lesser the time and the more energy it takes out of him. he needs at least two hours of rest before he shields again, but sometimes, if he uses up all his energy, he'll need a day or more. when he uses up all his energy, he'll pass out right then and there on the battlefield.

uniform /
► he wears a maroon jacket with a white shirt underneath (like in the picture at the top of the app) and black pants and black boots. he wears a black cloak and a belt for his knife and long leather gloves that go up to his elbows (something like this). he also wears a mask around his face.

a typical day /
► moonhwan usually wakes up first, conditioned by his training with seunghyun. he's the one who makes the fire and starts breakfast. he eats separately from the others and very quickly since he's at risk of exposing his brand (the others are used to it by now). after breakfast, they're assigned missions. usually, since he's a thief, moonhwan is sent on recon missions, where he'll scout ahead and report back about the terrain and enemy status (if they're close enough to be seen). sometimes, but not always, moonhwan will lie in his reports. he'll try to hinder the yul army and sometimes even give the advantage to the hwail army, but it only happens sometimes because he'd be dead if they knew he was lying on purpose.

at night, they'll sometimes sit around the campfire and talk about life.the others will drink, but moonhwan doesn't since it'll reveal his brand. other times, they extinguish the fire and look at the stars. moonhwan has a habit of opening his mouth when he sleeps, so he wears his mask to sleep as well (he's told the others that his mouth is severely deformed from an accident that happened as a kid, so no one questions it).

//// i'll do whatever it takes, even if i have to betray myself ////
final words / oh. my. god. this is so bad i'm so sorry OTL i came up with a story but it wasn't complete at first so i went back and filled in the gaps... i hope you like it though rhjdrxdgr i tried--
scene reqs /
► a scene where maybe seunghyun writes moonhwan about killing his grandfather (cue moonhwan freaking out because he wasn't supposed to write!!)
► moonhwan not being able to speak and only being able to write but it's totally inappropriate for the situation so it becomes funny
► flashbacks to his life back in hwail
► jinhwan being a dad (maybe arguing with junhoe because 'look you've made him uncomfortable!')
► maybe his tentmates do find out and they're all very cold to each other and moonhwan sayss smth about 'it's only ever been about revenge' and escapes and then they meet in battle again and he doesn't have the heart to harm them

Moonshin's review is up! I'll have him up on the Yul page and his intro up soon.
