after graduating high school, hakjoon enrolled into knpu (korean national police university) and became one of their best students, officially graduated and posted into one of the police detective teams in one of seoul's station.

ON THE CLOCK hakjoon is stationed in one of seoul's police station in a police detective unit. he comes to work at 7.30 or 8 am with his car and get off work around after dinner time or 11/12 pm. for days where complicated cases are given, hakjoon's unit are forced to pull an all nighter as they'd go for stake-outs or other investigations. when fairly easy cases are assigned, they'd often go home at night. dinner are mostly eaten together with the team, often ordering take outs or eating out—sometimes woori would stop by and bring dinner for the whole team. hakjoon's days off are on friday and saturday in which sometimes he doesn't take his days off at all.
OFF THE CLOCK hakjoon start his days off by jogging in the morning and cooking breakfast. he'd take woori out if she needed to shop for groceries or other necessities then play video games with baekho or laze around reading with his cat. the bestfriends goes out to eat sometimes and afterwards goes to a batting cage or play baseball with their friends if they could gather them.

BETWEEN THEM who would've known the cop who helped them with woori's case was going to be his unit captain? it turned out go daeho has been transferred back to seoul department a year after his sister's cae. back then, he seemed so cool in teenage hakjoon's eyes that when they met again as team leader and subordinate, he was let down by his uncle-ness (old fashioned humour etc). but he supposed its bound to happen as you age.

"YA, SON HAKJOON!" daeho's loud voice cracked through the radio. hakjoon waited a few minutes before he brought the radio to his mouth and let out a cold, "yes."
"why is the coffee taking a long time?!" the old man whined.
calmly, hakjoon replied, "because you keep disturbing the sacred process, sir." he reached out for the sugar and put in two spoonfuls of it...and realized he just added in salt.
"joon!" the radio crackled.
"coming." hakjoon took the two cups of black coffee, sighing at his accidental mistake--seemingly out of habit. he gave the coffee full of salt to his captain and made a beeline toward the back of the station.
the radio crackled again. "ya, son hakjoon!"

SCENE I: ENTER JUNG EUNJI they met in june 2017. that day, eunji had a concert in ewha women university in which woori attended. kang seungyoon was also present as he made a surprise appearance. woori had texted hakjoon that seungyoon was there, sending him photos. hakjoon was finishing his late dinner and preparing to go on his way to take woori back home when she chatted him. when he arrived, the place was already quiet. he called woori's phone only to see her waving at him from the hall's entrance with yoon and a woman he knew quite well from yoon and woori, who's her fan. apink's jung eunji."joonie-ya!" yoon called, letting go of his seoul dialect. hakjoon approached his old friend, shaking his hand and gave him a fleeting hug. "did you get taller?"

"sorry, nothing's wrong," she replied. he notice the slight tremble in her voice. "i didn't know who else to call. i'm just...actually, everyone, is shaken up, still." there were a few seconds of pause before she confessed. "i'm scared."
hakjoon felt her fear through her voice. "should i stand by and watch out the dorms?" he offered, worried.
"i can't make you do that," eunji sighed, she knows just how tired hakjoon must be too. "just...talk to me?"
that was how hakjoon spent the night talking, holding a record of his longest conversation yet, until eunji fell asleep. it was his first look at her inner, vulnerable self and compared to the boyish demeanor she always has.
SCENE III: BEFORE THEY KNEW IT; NOV '17 they had their first fight as friends (at least they think it was because they care each other as friends) when eunji uploaded a post on her instagram for the man threatening her group. he advised her to take it down, afraid it'll tick the one who threathened them more, but eunji thinks otherwise. against stubborn eunji and hakjoon who gets bolder as he's sure of himself, they left the scene hurt and with slight regrets. hakjoon was the first to reach out for truce on christmas eve. after a month of not contacting each other (partly busy, partly still not reconciled), hakjoon started to feel a little empty and becomes sensitive when he hears eunji's name. he drove to her dorm in instict and called her. "open your window for a while," he told her. after she poke her head out and saw him, hakjoon wasted no time to apologize. "i'm sorry. i know how hard it must have been for you," he said through the phone.
eunji chuckled. "you're only apologizing now?" she jokingly asked. "actually, i've deleted the post. i'm...more sorry."
he paused the call, checking her instagram and it was indeed deleted. hakjoon looked up and gestured an ok as he put his phone to his ear. "so, we're okay?" he breathed out.
"i have something for you," eunji said suddenly. she told hakjoon to look out for people and disappeared from the window. hakjoon did as told, scouring the place and when he went back to his car, eunji was already standing beside it. "hurry, get inside!"
once they got settled, eunji put out her hand, holding a blue collar with fish patterns and a maroon collar with jewels."ja-an! for gyeolie and yeong-ung." hakjoon shook his head, saying she didn't have to. "it's nothing! put this on them and send me a pic, okay?"
"alright," hakjoon chuckled, taking the present from her hand. eunji watched him inspecting the collars, unknowingly, her eyes fixed itself on his face. this man whose voice she's heard alot of compared to seeing his face, has been her shelter for the hard half of the year. maybe it was because that's part of his work, but she always feels safe. in the midst of everything they got to know each other and eunji found herself thinking of him at the end of the day.
"are you okay?" hakjoon's voice cut her thoughts, his eyes searching her face. "are you cold? i shoud've turn on the heater. wait."
"i'm fine." she rummaged her coat pocket and held out a small, black box. in the most casual voice, she said, "yours. it's just i thought you might need it."
hakjoon took it and opened the box, finding a neatly tucked watch inside. he shook his head. "i didn't do anything to receive this."
you don't know how much you've done for me. but she couldn't say that. instead, eunji grabbed his hand, taking off his actually broken watch. "look, this isn't working anymore!" she took the watch from the case and put it on, ignoring the fact that her stomach was getting butterflies. "ooh, it looks good. i was scared it wouldn't," she said, looking at his face for reactions. but she was caught off guard at how intense his gaze was.
hakjoon tore his gaze away and eunji let go of his hand. he was so close in confessing. so close to ruin this bond that they have, whatever they call it. "thank you." he ran his thumb over the watch. 11.31. "it's late. the members might be worried."
"they were all tired, they wouldn't miss me," eunji sighed. for some reason, she wanted to stay with him for a while longer.
was she stalling? hakjoon couldn't even believe he thought eunji was stalling. mentally, he slapped himself to get to his senses. "aren't you tired?" he asked. hakjoon leaned closer, "i see panda eyes."
they began to have a friendly banter for a few minutes before eunji decided leave. hakjoon looked around the vicinity then said it was safe to go. they left each other on a good note, despite the hidden feelings they each buried.
the feelings they buried however, began to grow. watered by their late night phone calls, hakjoon's small, gentle gestures—supporting her in anyway he can, always worried for her health, making her feel better by sending funny pictures of his pets, his whiny, embarassed face when she forced him to pick up her video calls—and eunji's many charms—off stage and on stage. before they knew it, they started to realize just how much the other occupy their mind and heart.

SCENE IV: I LIKE YOU; JUNE '18 they had a housewarming party for eunji's new house in june with yoon and woori. needless to say there were drinking involved and since hakjoon was going to drive, he didn't drink. when yoon and woori passed out, eunji moved to go to the rooftop for fresh air. "if you're coming, can you bring my guitar?" eunji asked hakjoon.with that he followed her, guitar on one hand and the other ready to catch eunji if she trips despite the fact that she didn't drink much. once they arrived at the rooftop, eunji asked for her guitar. she sat down on the rooftop's bench. "aah, i don't know if my voice will sound good," she started, warming up her voice.
hakjoon sat beside her. "i watched your tipsy live, i doubt it'll sound bad."
"okay, honestly speaking, do you watch everything i'm in?" eunji gave him a suspicious look. hakjoon shrugged, holding her gaze and said,"what are you going to sing?"
"what do you want me to sing?" she asked back. before hakjoon could answer, eunji had started to play her guitar. with her beside him, singing, hakjoon's feeling just burst out the seams. his chest felt so stuffy the more he stared at her and the more her emotional voice tickled his ears. he knew he fell for her, but he never knew he fell so deep.
"...eunji-ya." the woman faced him, waiting expectantly for hakjoon to continue. it felt like the perfect moment to say how he feels. the words just hanging at the tip of his tongue. but his heart decided to close the door of opportunity. he took a last look at eunji before standing up. "you chose a good place. look at those stars!"

"what do you think you're doing?" he whispered. "you drank and yet you drove here? you could've called me if you needed something. you didn't need to drive all the way here!"
"yes, i needed to." eunji took off her mask and stepped closer to hakjoon. she can smell his shampoo from the distance they were standing at now. without a warning, she grabbed hakjoon's hand. "i need to tell you something. face to face."
hakjoon was honestly freaked out by eunji's drunk-driving to notice the signals his heart gave him when eunji slipped her hand through his. "you have tomorrow."
"can't," eunji quickly said. "unlike you, i can't hold it back. it's driving me crazy."
"what's crazy is—"
"i like you." eunji squeezed his hand as the air turned tense. she hadn't felt this nervous for anything other than going on stage. pls, she hasn't confessed to anyone outside drama scripts. "i like you, son hakjoon."
hakjoon froze. eunji's confession echoed in his ears but it sounded like a foreign language. he looked down at his hand, held tightly by eunji. his logical mind blaring a dangerous alarm. "eunji-ya, you're still drunk—"
"i'm sober." she watched as hakjoon avoided looking at her. she wasn't going to let him run and hide. she reached for his cheeks and forced him to lock eyes with her. "i. like. you."
it was a knock down as hakjoon saw sincere in her eyes. his shoulders lost its strength, defeated. "if i tell you how i feel, will things change?" he began. "i...know how much being a singer mean to you. how much your fans mean to you. how you want to be in this star-studdded industry for a long time." he put his hand over hers. "that's why i'm scared it'll be taken away from you because of me. because of how i feel."
"and what do you feel?"
"i feel my head get jumbled up when i'm with you. i feel the beating of my heart run thrice as fast. i feel happy just getting texts from you and at peace when i hear your voice. i feel like...i might go crazy being so close to you." he paused, catching his breath. "i like you. i like you, jung eunji. a lot. maybe too much."
eunji's hands moved down to his neck. "how do you keep all those feelings inside?" she sighed. she moved closer before wrapping her hands around his waist and pulled him into a hug. "i'm sorry that things will change. but more than that, i want us."
hakjoon hesitated before he hugged back. he closed his eyes as he tighten his hold. "can i be selfish and wish to have you all to myself?"
"i guess, you can for tonight."
"eunji-ya," hakjoon said after a few minutes. "i'm still upset because you drove here with alcohol still in your system."

first date 3 weeks after they started dating. it wasn't much of a date as they stayed in the car parked near hang river. hakjoon had a tough few days and eunji told him to sleep. thus, it consist of hakjoon sleeping and eunji watching his sleep.
work, work, work as both their jobs tend to get busy, they understand how occupied they can be. plus they have their worries about each other's job. hakjoon worries about eunji's diet and eunji worries about his safety.
first kiss first week of september '18. they were belatedly celebrating her birthday at hakjoon's house—having the house to themselves (woori went back to busan, baekho had to work overnight). when eunji had to leave, hakjoon threw his hesitations and kissed her. "you're going to be busy with your solo comeback—i don't know when i'll see you again," was his reason in which eunji returned with another kiss.

SCENE REQUESTS
SCENE REQ.1 lots of fluff because hakjoon is a fluff master. but on another note he's also a master in spontaneous actions uwu eg. back hugs, saying he likes her out of the blue, him singing her a lullaby by request despite his so-so voice etc.
SCENE REQ.2 a jealous hakjoon will be fun to read. especially since eunji has a lot of male idol friends and has had kiss scenes on dramas.
