from an early age, watching idol groups brightened ruri's day. once she turned fourteen she decided to audition for one: the newest group produced by akimoto yasushi, akb48's producer. her mom told her not to be too discouraged if they didn't pick her but ruri, a beaming optimist at the time, confidently replied that she had practiced a lot. "i know you did, sweetheart, but they might only want completely japanese girls..." her mother said.

but when she watched girl groups on music shows, ruri understood the training was necessary and she was impressed by the polish korean groups had in comparison to those in japan. she was motivated to adapt to the trainee system and guarantee her debut by going above and beyond her instructors' expectations.
ruri improved a lot as a vocalist and, while she didn't become a stellar dancer, she always got great feedback on her new and improved facial expressions and her ability to stay in sync. but, of course, ruri had to put a lot of effort to make that happen. she got to a point where she realized debut was nowhere near her and she got keyakizaka46 flashbacks.
