I AM THE NEXT
MARS.

JOO KYEONGSIL

> joo kyeongsil has endured enough. she endured her mother's absency, her alcoholic father, the alienation she suffered from her classmates as a child and losing right about every person she cared about in a span of fifteen years.

> people act like they have all the time in the world. they plan and theorize and talk full of entitlement as they do nothing. lucky for her, kyeongsil has stopped enduring.

APPEARANCE
> just a little taller than average, people remember kyeongsil to be shorter than she is due to her wider hips and wider frame.

> another memorable thing about kyeongsil is her blonde hair. she usually ties it into a ponytail as to not draw too much atttention to herself when she's working.

she has wanted to learn the language ever since she was nine so when she was fifteen and alone in seoul she stole a book and started learning.

OTHER NAMES/NICKS
> jung jiyeon | her go-to fake name. her boss and co-worker know her as jung jiyeon.

> kyeong | generic nickname, usually used by the solar assassins she's friendliest with.

HER STORY

PERSONALITY
a ticking time bomb dwelling on the past: quiet, active, impulsive, ill-tempered, distrustful, courageous, reminiscent
> accidentally similar to brooklyn nine-nine's rosa díaz

tick-tock goes joo kyeongsil. silently, of course. not much of a talker, that and her rather brash way of carrying herself and communicating lead to less than stellar people skills. why would you need to be good at talking to people if you don't trust them?

any meaningful connection she makes reminds kyeongsil of all the people she has lost so those who know anything personal about her shouldn't consider themselves too lucky, it's probably fake and meant to keep her personal life a secret.

she hates planning and sitting passively, it keeps her ticking and she keeps remembering. after everything that she has been through, she mutters a determined "this is useless" while the other assasins strategize. they should go headfirst into the action. waiting, to kyeongsil, is creating an opportunity for things to go needlessly wrong. getting involved and taking a stand is always the better option because it means no guilt even if things go wrong.

and then, seemingly without warning, the time bomb explodes like it always does, charging ahead with little care for the consequences because she's so sick of meaningless chitter chatter there are no consequences she can't handle. time bombs aren't any more scared of exploding (and its aftermath) than joo kyeongsil is.

a fire doesn't put out another fire, that's eminent when the time bomb is still exploding, cussing at everyone who's vocally upset and scolding her for acting to soon. "you'd rather i let a target get away?" she instigates with anger in her eyes. the explosion is even worse when she deems a target's actions inhuman, "they were children there, you sick , that didn't deserve to live another single second. no plan can change my mind."

HISTORY

tumblr_p9gmzpJCUS1w60hclo1_540.gif

ACT ONE:

kyeongsil tells everyone she's an orphan. she doesn't think it's a lie, she grew up without parents. the thing is they were both alive and kicking and, for a large part of her life, she'd wake up and her dad would be in the next room. one of the many times kyeongsil couldn't sleep and he came back home drunk, he told her her mom left when she was too little to remember.

she went to school sometimes. the girls didn't like her, they whispered a lot, so she approached a group of boys. they didn't like her too much either at first, but then kyeongsil proved she could punch just as hard and climb just as high as them and she began to grow on them.

some other times she didn't feel like going to school, mainly for all the crap she got for hanging out with boys and not having a mom. kyeongsil had always been quiet, so she never confronted anyone. she'd hide and wait for her dad to leave for work —or wherever he left, not that she ever knew or cared— and leave her cheaply made concrete house. she usually walked around her dangerous daegu neighborhood with a pocket knife she stole from her dad's drawer or talked to the japanese owners of the convenience store close by, who she called her best friends. she was nine when the store was robbed and they got shot. she became interested in japanese culture to keep their memories alive.

ACT TWO:

the fights started when she was nine too. she got into a petty fight with one of her friends but things escalated and he told kyeongsil that she was disgusting and that was why she didn't have a mom and nobody liked her. kyeongsil nodded and turned around, but a little voice inside her head whispered "why do you put up with this?". the next day, the boy showed up to school covered in bruises. kyeongsil grinned and the fights didn't stop, she got expelled when she was eleven.

she was twelve and she had been expelled from two schools when a friend convinced her to follow his brother while he was doing "a job". kyeongsil shrugged, she didn't have much to do so witnessing a robbery couldn't hurt.

kyeongsil didn't just witness a robbery that day. she saw an opportunity. an opportunity that, had she looked more clearly, she would have seen before. she could become better than her alcoholic dad, her absent mom and her obnoxious classmates, she could become rich. she and her friend started going on more jobs.

ACT THREE:

the little group of co-workers expanded and got under the radar of wealthy clients as well as other gangs. kyeongsil was fifteen, expelled from seven institutions —and counting— and she rarely ever went to school, which, as drunk as he was, she couldn't hide from her dad anymore.

one day he didn't allow her to exit the house and got very violent. later that same day her gang had a violent encounter with another grouping in which many people she had known for a long time died. kyeongsil went berserk. crying, she packed everything of value she found in her own home in a bag, smashed every bottle of alcohol she and took a train to seoul.

alone and a minor, kyeongsil sold everything she'd brought with her and got involved in the crime scene again. she heard about the solar assasins and decided that was where she was going next.

PRESENT DAYS
> kyeongsil has a cover up job at a convenience store in itaewon because weird always happens at itaewon and the extra money doesn't hurt. she constantly walks the line between losing it or keeping it, though, as she doesn't go to work if she's "not in the mood" for it. there's also the fact that sometimes she's in the mood for studying japanese at work and the quality of her customer service notably decreases.

TRIVIAS

she hasn't graduated high school.
but kyeongsil has learned many things from experience and, when she's thinking with a clear head, she surprisingly has a lot of common sense.
even small, crime-unrelated things (like speaking crutches or fidgeting) set off her temper but, due to her quiet nature, kyeongsil isn't vocal about them. she's stuck on the tick-and-explode loop.
kyeongsil gets even more impatient and impulsive when her target is cruel towards groups of people like children, women, teenagers, struggling families, etc.
always refuses alcoholic drinks. she thinks it's basic self respect, seeing how they shaped her relationship with her dad
she's more lenient towards other addictive substances, though.
if she has to go undercover, she'll gladly make up a fake name and a whole life story for her persona.
has considered looking for her mom once or twice, but kyeongsil has decided not to.
but she checks up on her dad once in a while, deep down she hopes he'll quit drinking
that's why she has devoted some of her time protect information about her dad from being found, he's a soft spot for her.
but she wouldn't risk everything for him. she'd hesitate, but she's willing to give up her dad if it comes down to it.
hates not being seen as a person just because she's violent.
in fact, she will go berserk if someone calls her a monster.
also if she gets backstabbed. kyeongsil would rather do her job without establishing connections because they can lead to backstabbing people or getting backstabbed.
has a lot of mixed emotions when she sees new young girls train because they remind her neither they nor she are going to get out of this lifestyle, but she also hopes they succeed and get over their hardships
has somewhat of a fascination with machine guns. since she usually goes for individual targets instead of groups, kyeongsil can rarely use them but she'd do anything to get the chance.

FOUND OR ENROLLED INTO THE TRAINING ACADEMY?
> enrolled.

HOW OLD WAS SHE THEN?
> fifteen.

CHOSEN WEAPON
> if the situation lent itself to it, kyeongsil would obviously opt for a machine gun. since situations never seem to do, her weapon of choice are nunchakus. hers are specially modified and have concealed blades.

SPECIAL TALENT(S)
> her experience in a gang makes it easier for kyeongsil to identify if she's dealing with an organization and what its hierarchy is on the spot.
> she's very good at stopping bombs from going off, pretty ironic. she likes to say it "takes one to know one".

MODUS OPERANDI
> "but it takes the fun out of it" kyeongsil deadpanned when she heard what a modus operandi was. there aren't many similarities between her target's dead bodies save for the fact that all of them have been choked and they all have the spear of mars carved on them.

BRANDED SYMBOL
> kyeongsil's branded symbol can be found in her right ankle. feet are what keeps you moving, so it symbolizes moving on from the past.

RELATIONSHIPS

FAMILY

> father | joo inshik | 47 | occupation | choi dukmoon
kyeongsil had somewhat of a symbiotic relationship with her dad, one of mutual ignorance. in the off chance they found themselves spending time together, she wouldn't say anything about him being an alcoholic and he wouldn't ask about her day. years later, kyeongsil checks up on him from the academy once in a while, hoping his life has improved. after all, she can't deny she feels guilty: she walked out on him just like her mom did.

FRIENDS
> friends | various names | various ages | assassins
not many people can handle kyeongsil's personality, but that hasn't stopped her from getting close to a few of the solar assassins. more information to be added.

OTHERS
tumblr_narm2xMFt51thb2lmo3_400.gif
> mentor | kwon boah | 31 | (former?) assassin | kwon boah
seventeen year old kyeongsil was enraged yet deep down excited when she met her match in kwon boah. while she didn't treat kyeongsil differently from anyone else, she eventually started giving her tips now and then. you wouldn't be able to tell from their coarse way of communicating, but boah and kyeongsil have a lot of respect for each other and kyeongsil wants her to be proud of her.

tumblr_nykvi2us7s1qglekyo1_500.gif

> former acquaitance | kang hojung | 20 | gang leader | lee seokmin
hojung joined the gang the year kyeongsil left and they didn't interact much. he's one of the few members who survived the shooting that took place the night kyeongsil left to seoul. manipulative, sly and definitely not a half-asser, he took advantage of kyeongsil being gone and made his way to the top of the hierarchy. however, a few years later, he hasn't even heard of kyeongsil, which he finds at least a bit alarming. sitting comfortably at the top of the pyramid, things are getting a little boring for hojung, who can't resist a challenge, so he might as well figure out whatever happened to her.

ANYTHING EXTRA YOU'D WANT TO TELL ME?
uhh... hi, i'm aggie, thanks so much for helping me figure out if she really fits a mars! (but!! i'm still not sure so go ahead and tell me if she doesn't)

> the lack of information about her mom was intentional so you can manipulate it to fit the plot :))

> guess who didn't give her girlie a love interest? me! if you'd like her to have a love story though you can pick anyone as her l/i (same or opposite , even hojung)

> also excuse the color scheme not being so mars-y, 'get it' rena is the scariest rena yet so yellow it was

SCENE REQUESTS!
> okay so kyeongsil finds pertinent information about her mom and it contributes to the plot and she cusses at her (or, alternatively, kyeongsil's mom turned out to be a first generation solar assassin... for reasons that i again leave up to you)

> the assassins are out there in the field and kyeongsil recognizes her former gang is involved in whatever they're doing.... turns out it was one of hojung's schemes to see what the she's up to. tom and jerry nonsense ensues !!

> kyeongsil makes meaningful connections with a couple of the solar assassins and learns how to deal with it

> but also one of the assassins tries to threaten kyeongsil into controlling her temper and she only gets more violent

> "what the ! since when do you speak japanese?" "none of your business" you guessed it, being a cool weeb finally pays off for kyeongsil
