chO SEOYI

fc

BIRTHNAME : 조 서이, cho seoyi
NICKNAMES :

seo, the default nickname for seoyi that her friends use

, airhead, dumb blonde, walnut brain, loving nicknames that close friends use to tease seoyi for her rather slow way of processing information

DATE OF BIRTH november eleventh, 16
BIRTHPLACE : busan, south korea
ETHNICITY : korean
NATIONALITY : south korean
LANGUAGES SPOKEN :

native korean, seoyi's native language. she speaks busan satoori.

semi-fluent english, sure, she might make grammar mistakes and her vocabulary isn't anything to be proud of but that won't stop seoyi from saying "this is so sad alexa play despacito". despite having taken many english classes, most of the things seoyi knows she has learnt from the internet and movies.

Well Hello there!

FACE CLAIM : weki meki's lucy
BACK-UP FACE CLAIM : loona's go won, dia's somyi

APPEARANCE :

— taller than a goood amount of girls and shamelessly blonde, eyes are drawn to seoyi when she walks into a room because she's hard to ignore. her sister asks her if she's going to put some makeup on before leavin for school and seoyi, with a bare face and sometimes the occasional pimple, answers with a "right". then she proceeds to put on some mascara and fill in her brows.

FASHION STYLE :

— seoyi's style is pretty simple, bordering boring, and put together. after all, where do you think the effort she doesn't put into makeup goes? she's the type of person who always shows up with her shirt tucked into her jeans and her nails done. her accesories (thin necklaces and simple rings and bracelets) are always very tasteful instead of over the top. outfit-wise, a lazy day for seoyi looks like a big striped tee, high waisted jeans and a small necklace.

unobservant / superficial / tactless under certain circumstances

cho seoyi is a people person down to the t, she truly loves making friends and finds every personality interesting. she isn't your y type of popular kid, she gets along well with everyone at moon high even though she entered the school in sophomore year and people know who she is, that's her type of popular.

energetic but not too energetic, positive but not obnoxiously so and enterainingly rather than unbearably loud, seoyi is casual and friendly with everyone she meets. when it comes to friends, "the more, the merrier" and her heart is big enough to fit in every single one. she will do anything for a friend, constantly providing them with love and support.

when you end up getting close to her (because seoyi is seoyi and chances are that you will), you'll realize how slow seoyi is. she's not... that smart, she'd much rather discuss the fun things she did during the weekend than politics. you see, her ability to make friends comes from her will, not from her wit. she needs some time to get an indirect, to read the mood or to accurately assess a situation. luckily, she has many friends to rely on when she immediately begins telling someone about her day without noticing their withdrawn expression.

seoyi is definitely not slow at getting hurt, though. she's very sensitive, for example: she's likely to feel sad once she can tell someone else feels sad and, most importantly, she will feel wounded by snarky remarks intended to make fun of her. give her an apology, though, and she'll forgive and forget only to be surprised when you make the same mistake.

why? because the image she projects of herself is extremely important to seoyi and seoyi's confidence. what if her friends leave her? she's sure people will think badly and her self esteem can't take it. sure, some of her friendships are toxic, but she'd rather have toxic friendships than no friendships at all. and yet, underneath her universally likeable "nice-girl" traits, seoyi has an undying love for memes, jazz music, marvel movies, harry potter and playing the sax. not that she'd let the school know, imagine how weird she would look.

background

seoyi doesn't like to say her parents are rich because she doesn't think they are. her dad has a relatively high position in a conglomerate and he has provided for the family ever since he got it, so she does say that she has never lacked anything. however, seoyi's friends prior to moon high believed she was rich at first. she seemed to get new phones left and right, expensive sneakers, never ever asked them for money —everything was her treat!— and she played the sax.

her older sister's name is seohyeon and, when she first heard about seoyi, she was thrilled to have a younger sister. ever-so the overachiever of the family, she encouraged her to do her best all throughout her life. she loves seohyeon, of course, so she doesn't admit that following her advice and trying to be like her through thick and thin has had some major negative consequences.

she grew up wanting to be like her sister. seohyeon had so many friends and they all loved her so seoyi figured out a way so she would too, she had the prettiest clothes and the best toys so she got them too, she was great at everything and seoyi wanted to be great at everything too.

seoyi was nine when her dad was watching jazz musicians on t.v. her eyes, unlike her sister, who left the room, were glued to the screen. it was even cooler than seohyeon, but even as she began taking saxophone lessons, she was eager to show her sister what she had worked on.

school got harder and, while seohyeon's grades were stellar, seoyi brought her report cards home with a tinge of disappointment every time. it was okay though, because when she showed up to school she would talk to all of her friends and feel great again. she held those friends so close to her heart that she didn't mind if they made her feel hurt sometimes because maybe she couldn't be as great as seohyeon, but she could be great to her friends. she needed to be.

then came freshman year and seoyi felt too hurt by all the toxic friendships she had made. however, she didn't see a flaw in her mindset and her way of viewing friendships and, instead, she pinned the blame on the fact that she'd known these people ever since kindergarten and it was only natural they fell apart. she told her parents she wanted to change schools and off to moon high she went.

The Important People!

CONNECTIONS :

tumblr_perzivCTDW1xaiw61o3_250.png

— sister : cho seohyeon / college student / extroverted, witty, observant, over-achiever / very close
seoyi loves and admires her sister like no other. currently, seohyeon is  a university student in seoul, so the only contact she has with her sister is through phonecalls and the occasional visit. now that she's hours away, seoyi doesn't feel as pressured to be like her as she used to even though seohyeon never wanted her to be, she always thought seoyi and her were just similar since they grew up together and were each other's best friend. seoyi wouldn't dare to tell seohyeon she's in ghost club, she thinks it would be outright disappointing.

— closest friend : lee soonae / high school student / quiet, endearing, curious, artistic, insecure, easily stressed / very close
her parents said the last hagwon wasn't that good, that this one was better. seoyi thought they were desperate to find a place that would help her bring her grades up and she entered the room hiding her gloomy mood. why was this so easy for people like seohyeon?

then her eyes automatically found their way towards a lanky girl with black hair sitting by herself. she looked very familiar but seoyi didn't know why. she sat next to her and said hi with a big smile to see how, with complete surprise, the other girl said "hi! i'm so sorry if this question is weird but do you play the sax?"

"yeah" "i think we played in an orchestra together". so that's where she knew her from! seoyi had to sacrifice orchestra, spending time with friends or sax lessons in favor of her grades so she left orchestra. she only remembered her crush on a guy who played the oboe and that one of the girls playing the violin was nice. she didn't talk to soonae. in fact, it took her a year to remember she was the quiet cellist who always arrived early. during said year, they got very close as they went to the same hagwon and walked home together. then they started hanging out during their free time and seoyi can wholeheartedly say that soonae is the friend who knows her best. this has to do with the fact that they met each other under circumstances (orchestra) in which seoyi was more focused on being herself than like her sister, so that's the attitude she has towards soonae

— friend : kim hyemi / high school student / charismatic, reserved, observant, snarky, judgemental / not very close
it was her first class at moon high and two girls were laughing loudly as the teacher stared at them with daggers in her eyes. one of them asked for a pen, trying to contain her laughter, the other one didn't even try. seoyi lent her a pen and, after class was over, she walked up to them to properly introduce herself. the one who couldn't stop laughing was hyemi, she asked her some questions about her old school and her music taste (to which seoyi replied with a safe "i don't know, i really listen to everything" and a laugh) and she started hanging out with her and boram, the girl who asked for a pen, a lot.

hyemi is quite the one for cliques. she does it because she's very reserved and loves to have fun, resulting in her forming groups of people she's comfortable with and sharing the fun with them only. if she were to do a group project without her group of friends, for example, she'd be very quiet. this makes other people feel excluded as hyemi is very picky when it comes to the people she hangs out with and is overall a very judgemental person, first impressions go a long way with this girl.

what seoyi likes the least about hyemi is her mean sense of humor, her way of showing love by teasing. she teases seoyi for being slow, boram for being short and chaeyoung for being a good student and she takes it too far. but you guessed it, seoyi lets her do it every time because she's a great friend! minus the teasing, of course!

— friend : ha boram / high school student / snarky, confident, open minded, blunt / not very close
hyemi's best friend since childhood and member of the girls' soccer team, the reason these two get along so well is because: 1) they share the same type of snarky humor but 2) boram will not hesitate to call hyemi out on her bull. how this works is boram will make a joke about cheating off chaeyoung's test and chaeyoung will laugh because they don't have any classes together but when hyemi says something sarcastic about chaeyoung's gpa, boram will roll her eyes and tell her not to ruin it for chaeyoung.

the girl also has an unshakeable confidence that seoyi wishes was her own. every time hyemi says something about her height she shrugs and chuckles, unbothered. she's confident enough to give advice on topics she isn't the least bit familiar with. if she's wrong, she'll make it a learning experience. that's the the good thing about boram: she's open minded and willing to listen. however, when she speaks, she speaks the truth with no filter whether you like it or not. usually talks to seoyi about clothes and k-hiphop music.

— friend : yoo chaeyoung / high school student / intelligent, shy, pessimistic, decisive, organized  / close
seoyi was eagerly chatting with boram and hyemi at lunch and it was only the first day. chaeyoung was there, sure, but she was so quiet seoyi didn't feel like she made her presence acknowledged. the more she had lunch with her, the more seoyi got to know chaeyoung: the first thing she knew was that she got very good grades, the second was that she was shy, the third was that she believed in murphy's law, the fourth, that she met hyemi at drama club.

ironically enough, chaeyoung is seoyi's most pessimistic friend but the one who has her together the most. sometimes seoyi skips hagwon to study with chaeyoung instead: she balances school with the school council and drama club and does well in the three of them while still making time for her friends. seoyi has noticed how hyemi tends to point her comments towards chaeyoung the most and, as a result, she has gotten closer to her than to hyemi and boram.

— cool stranger, old crush of chaeyoung's : lee sanghyuk / high school student / eccentric, humorous, clumsy, sensitive / not close
seoyi and sanghyuk rarely talk, but they both know of each other's existence and they're friendly to each other.

when she told her about joining ghost club, chaeyoung revealed she was a member of the club for a year just to test the waters and see if it was interesting and ended up having a crush on sanghyuk. seoyi will eventually consider setting the two up together.
