the smell of freshly crushed coffee beans. waking up at exactly 8AM every sunday morning, the feeling of warm sunlight on your face easing you from a night of good sleep. lined notebooks with pages and pages and pages of writing in neat cursive tucked into a plain canvas tote bag. frayed dusty rose ballet flats and a stray strand of hair hanging loosely from a messy bun piled high up, natalia moon is a collection of anchored beliefs and irrevocable grace that comes easily. she's the girl who walks with perfect posture wherever she goes, head held high up in the air along with her firmly set aspirations. almost never will you find her appearing harried in the least, her composure usually being able to fool anyone that she has her life exactly how she wants it to be, when she wants it to be. intelligence and wit are what she holds close to her heart, and behind the easygoing facade she keeps up is a girl with ambitions roaring to burst and an impatience for her own essentially, unattainable goals to be reached as soon as possible. natalia moon isn't just an overachiever, she's the overachiever, and she's a busy girl, with a constant mountain of events to attend and tasks waiiting to be fulfilled by her. so even if she doesn't explicitly say it, if you're not up to her personally qualified standards, you're not cut out for her to waste her precious time on. watch out, world, because natalia moon is here.

natalia romanoff it's sorta been a running joke of sorts since natalia's english professor from her first year in ucm wrote multiple emails, gave comments and letters to natalia addressing her as natasha, despite the multiple times she attempted to correct him. ever since, pretty much every halloween, she dresses up as black widow and fully embraces the whole thing.

the minimalist a white shirt tucked into washed denim boyfriend jeans cuffed at the ankles topped with a plaid blazer and with a pair of off-white worn supergas are usually natalia's go-to outfit of the day. she's not really much of a skirt girl, but on days where she puts in more effort the occasional a-line skirt or flared skirt makes an entrance. wrap dresses are reserved for the more formal events, as with her only two pairs of heels - one and one stiletto. otherwise, natalia's not really the type to put much thought into fashion, and in an ocean of stussy tees and tennis skirts, natalia can be said to adorn a much more minimalistic style. her entire wardrobe only contains clothes in shades of white, off-white, beige, tan, grey, and faded blue - you'll be dead finding her wearing any other colours.

natalia's never been someone easy to get along with off the bat, because of the stony expression she usually wears and her dogged determination to get things accomplished. though her actions are generally always careful and measured (unless she's under the influence of too much alcohol, but that's a whole different story), she tends to not mask her thoughts, culminating in the words she utters hurting people unintentionally. nonetheless, at ground level, natalia never means any real harm - she's just someone who'd prefer the cold hard truth instead of sugar-coated lies, so that she can form a plan to work towards solving that. rational and perceptive, she's a great problem-solver, which means she's always going around helping others clean up their messes. though it may be a little difficult growing close to her, especially when she tends to keep herself a little detached from others unwittingly, once she's decided that you're someone precious to her, she'll stick to you fiercely and with unending loyalty, standing up for you in any situation. she's also an excellent pep-talker and getting people to do their , even if it comes out a little harsher than expected. at the end of the day, she's just an ambitious girl taking steps to attain the unreachable goals she's set for herself. because while she may come off as too high-handed in the eyes of those around her, the person she's the most unrelenting to is herself.

undefeatable body clock natalia firmly believes in the concept of 'early bird gets the worm', so she's cultivated a terrifying habit of waking up at latest 8AM every morning, without fail. she's pretty much the only student you'll know raving to sign up for the earliest lectures, the only one fresh faced with steaming coffee ready in her starbucks tumblr and sitting eagerly with her pen and notebook out at the best seat in the lecture theatre. this includes days where just the night before she was at a party. you'll never find her still in bed after 8AM - if she is, it just means there's something bad that's happened to her.
dancer from kindergarten all the way up till midway through high school, natalia learnt ballet, and loved it. she dabbled in contemporary dance as well, but really, ballet was her first love. though from young she's always had so much going on - violin lessons, aikido training, gymnastic courses, recreational fencing, nothing compared to the passion she had for ballet. for a while she'd entertained the thought of going professional, but after the incident (no one dares to bring it up because she just goes stone-faced instantly) where she'd fallen down during the most pivotal part of her performance in a renowned ballet compeitition she'd (literally) worked her bones for and broken her leg for more than six months, having to go through physiotherapy and give up not just ballet, but also all the other activities related to sports she'd been partaking in, that dream's pretty much vanquished.
coping syndromes after a breakup with her ex-boyfriend that she'd dated for two years, like any other normal girl, she dabbled in some questionable activities to get herself back together - in her case, holing herself in her room all day and binge watching all forty-three seasons of masterchef, america, canada, australia, italia, and junior. after emerging from that, she began cooking vats and vats of food for everyone around her - her family, friends, church mates, professors, strangers in the street, et cetera. it's not that her food tasted bad - in fact it was anything but, but one had to admit, her behaviour then was the craziest you'd witness in a bit. nowadays she's recovered from that spiel, but she still believes in cooking rather than opting for takeout all the time, making her the designated cook in pretty much all the clubs she's in, whether it be hangover soup for the kasa members or delicately crafted pasta for the kids at kcm.
track record natalia has a beautiful portfolio till date, being in student council in elementary school, middle school and high school, with stellar grade point averages anyone would be envious of. college's actually the first time she isn't in student council, though she supposes, kasa kinda counts. korean-american student association, secretary as many have, you might ask - what the hell is someone like natalia moon, who lives to wake up bright and early in the morning and deploring the stupid frat events that pi alpha phi inc. throw, doing in kasa, who are literally famous for their loud- parties that extend till way too late? the answer: edward park.... and a few other factors, of course. regardless of the reasoning, natalia had joined under the impression that kasa was just going to be a group to meet other korean-americans, which was a community she'd never been part of before, in her mostly white populated schools before. three years in and all the partying is never something she had foreseen when filling in the application form, but she can't say she regrets handing the form in anyway. they've evolved to become so much more than just a club, and though the number of members are always steadily growing and natalia can't say with confidence that she's close to every single one of them, what she can conclude is that joining kasa has been one of the best decisions that she's ever made. from making the acquaintance of friends that she knows for sure that'll be lifelong, to learning more about herself through all the sheananigans that she goes through with all of them, the existence of kasa in her life makes sure natalia's days never go by without a laugh or a semblance of the structured predictability she's grown so used to. natalia does her job as secretary pretty damn well, though when she'd first gotten the role her reaction was "why the hell y'all need a secretary for?" meticulously taking down everything they need to note and serving as the human reminder system for all of them, natalia ensures that everything's always going in order, backing edward and hannah with all the logistical details they need.

being roommates with hazel sohn and ashley im so far? has been just about the greatest thing that's happened to natalia since she became an upperclassman and moved out of her dingy dorm at under. it's not just the fact that they're both joys to be around, but also the fact that they're way cleaner than natalia's old roommates who gave her nightmares because of the rat infestation that happened on their floor. it's also a lot more conducive and a great environment to rush write a 5000 word essay in a night at! a peek into her room features pale off-white walls, light blue curtains, numerous books stacked haphazardly on top of each other on her cluttered light wooden desk, a hand-designed bulletin board with polaroids, a calendar, a few post-it notes and scrap pieces of paper with grocery lists, and reminders on what to write in essays. bedsheets from ikea. a neat closet and a bamboo laundry basket right beside, filled with worn clothes from the day before. although natalia tends to give off the impression that she's a neat freak, she's anything but - outside actual academic work, she really doesn't mind things being messy, and because she doesn't spend the most time in her room, its main purpose purely being to house her sleep, it's not always in the best condition. that doesn't mean it's in a constant state of disarray though - she tries to clean up at least once a week on the weekends. weekdays are just too packed for her to bother caring.

natalia likes to make the full use of her day, and with a pile of work constantly on her to-do list, whether it be academic related or social wise, she's always organizing her schedule and arriving from place to place promptly without missing a beat. working at we bean business takes up a fair share of her time, but it's a good source of income not inclusive of the added perk that natalia absolutely loves the atmosphere there (unless nathan's rushing in and spilling his coffee on the floor for the umpteenth time). because students mostly go there to study and there isn't always a steady flow of customers coming in with orders, natalia keeps her macbook open behind, and when there's no one to tend to she busies herself with her own work as well. besides, she's decided that being a barista and properly mastering the art of making coffee has decidedly become one of the best life skills to pick up - and the most satisfying too, when she finishes the final touches of latte art on the froth of elijah's order of coffee. the owner's pretty chill about it so her job there is really something she genuinely enjoys doing a lot - even when edward's on the same shift as her and peering over her shoulder as she types out the fiftieth draft of her essay, throwing in unnecessary remarks about her use of language as he absentmindedly sketches diagrams of cells in his notebook. when she's not at class or working, then she's probably with her friends at various locations, whether it be at the beehive with annie, milksea with landon and hazel, or serendipitea with hannah.

landon's actually the very first person natalia was introduced to when she first came to ucm. while showing her the way to her dorm at under, edward'd bumped into landon, the latter side-eyeing the bags he was carrying on natalia's behalf. "oh, you're with a freshie?" he'd asked, edward rolling his eyes and explaining the situation about their families. "okay, cool. i'm landon, welcome to ucm!" because landon and edward are almost always together, natalia's too often for her liking exposed to the company of landon. funnily enough, though they bicker as much as, if not more than natalia and edward do, they also get along extremely well, to the point where there was a whole period of time landon would swing by and ask "where's natalia?", cueing an indignant look shot from edward who had expected the question to be "where's edward?" as usual. natalia claims landon's every cliche she hates in a guy - she'd recoiled in horror when landon had announced that he was going to run for pi alpha phi president. "i refuse to be associated with.... the president of a frat.... oh god...." still, despite all her empty words, the two of them are almost like brother and sister. it also helps that unlike edward all the way in the science campus, they have professors in common, a few of the subjects they take shared. edward complains every time they hang out without him - "stop leaving me out!" "dude, it's not our fault your building's at the whole other end of the university." "then is it not your fault that you showed landon the entirety of my grade school photo album?" ".... i have no regrets."
annie kim, third year: the ride or die.
best friends since high school who came to ucm together, annie's natalia's ride or die, and whatever there is to know about natalia? annie knows it. they don't take the same major and hardly share any classes in common now that they're juniors, but that doesn't stop them from being as close as they were back in high school groaning about ap calc. natalia takes time off to support annie at every single one of the rice breakers' competitions (the con of this is that she has to see daniel too many times for her liking. she drags eliza with her sometimes though, so it's not too bad because at least she gets to watch their interations). out of the two of them, annie's the one who's always way more excited about kasa's parties than natalia, often the planner of said parties, dragging natalia around from corner to corner of the room, flitting away being the social butterfly that she is. annie's an absolute sweetheart, and together the both of them have each others' backs, balancing each other out perfectly and swearing that they'll never let anything get between them.
hannah lee, fourth year: the big.
since joining, natalia's stuck to the belief that hannah's the best part about being in kasa and so far? that statement hasn't proved her wrong just yet. during freshman year when hannah heard from edward that she was "the girl he grew up seeing every year" her reaction was "who'd be able to stand being around you for so long?" and she immediately picked up natalia as her little. words can't describe just how grateful natalia is for hannah having appeared in her life - from all the tips on which professors to get on the good side on, which courses had the cutest tas, talks over dinner at fire nation lasting till the last customer's gone and jay had to come to ask them to leave, hannah's been an integral part of natalia's college life so far, and they've transcended far from just being bigs or littles to each other but incredibly close friends. edward's always complaining that he can't be comfortable around hannah anymore because she'll go on to spill everything to natalia, and vice versa, but they're a team now and does edward's opinion matter? no.
ashley im, third year: the roommate.
though ashley and natalia'd already known each other since they entered kasa in the same batch, it's really only after natalia moved in to the apartment that her and hazel shared that they grew a lot closer. ashley goes crazy whenever she's accidentally woken up by one of natalia's 8am alarms because she's definitely not a morning person, but natalia makes it up by making pancakes and washing up the dishes afterwards without a word. admittedly, they're not as close as hazel and ashley are, but they still get along well enough for them to stay up together scrolling through instagram profiles, beer bottles on the floor and the "oh my god, she got a customized birkin bag? goals." conversations to take place.

being from the same church back in iowa, jae was the one who lugged natalia over to kcm in ucm, insisting she joined. because of him, natalia's community of christian friends in ucm have definitely expanded by dime a dozen, and though she doesn't spend all her time with the kcm members, she tries to pop by once or twice every two weeks or so, though jae's constantly pestering her to drop by more often. it's also because of his recommendation and introduction to everyone that natalia's now part of the worship team in ucm, which is a duty she never expected herself to fulfil - still it's a great opportunity to connect stronger spiritually after a tiring week, and jae's brought a lot of that to natalia.

when natalia steps into kcm's clubroom for the very first time, the only other familiar face besides jae is elijah - not because she's personally acquainted with him but because she's seen him in passing whenever landon drags her over to pick up his belongings at the pi alpha phi house. it's a little disconcerting to see someone who you've witnessed doing body shots of annie during one of the kasa parties outside of a church, but clearly elijah has a similar line of thinking when he sees her, because there's a flicker of recognition that passes across his eyes for a split second when she walks into the room. later on when they've all split up into their own little groups elijah approaches natalia and properly introduces himself. though natalia's uneasy around him at first (rule number one is her books is to never trust a frat boy), it's hard to avoid him when someone he's always wherever she goes - with landon at the house, at any kasa mixer, or at the kcm meetings. they're a lot more comfortable around each other now, though natalia's always calling him out for skipping out on kcm meetings for "that stupid emergency pub-hopping activity landon called for????"

cullen because edward's edward and he happens to share the same name as the vampire from twilight that natalia had a whole phase for during her teenage years. she often complains about how he's nothing like robert pattinson (edward agrees, saying he's better. natalia violently disagrees.) this nickname is exclusively used by natalia, and sometimes when their friends are teasing them things like "just go to your edward cullen and keep quiet already, lia"

for as long as they've known, natalia moon and edward park's parents have been the closest of friends. which means that since birth, natalia's had edward in her life - the boy left alone with her in front of the television whenever her parents drive over to the parks' place for a gathering. they're only a year apart, the adults clap in joy. they look lovely together! i say they be best friends, they cry out as they joyously clink their wine glasses together.
except it doesn't turn out that way. you don't put two headstrong, stubborn kids together, constantly enclose them within four walls and instantly expect for them to be the best of friends. a bratty girl with hair tied up in pigtails turns to the boy with the bored expression next to her, bowls of mac and cheese prepared by mrs park in front of them. "don't talk to me, i want to watch this show." he glares back at her. "what makes you think i want to talk to you either, huh? i don't want cooties!" she's five and he's six, and this is how the majority of their 'playdates' play out.
through the years, much to his chagrin, edward's forced to attend every single one of natalia's violin and ballet recitals, just as she's lugged by her parents to support edward at all the baseball matches they can make it for. though they wind up not going to the same elementary, middle or high school (they both breathe out sighs of relief) after the parks move to another state too far for their visits to be as regular as when they're kids, the moons and parks still make it a point to meet up at least once every year. which means that every christmas, the two exchange snarky comments with each other whilst both piling achievements on their trophy shelves. they're both incredibly intelligent kids, and with the frequent remarks from their parents - "lia, lia! you've got to hear this - edward's won the science statewide competition! for the second year in a row! that boy is a genius in the making, i say." "mom, i don't care, stop telling me all this.... he's such a nerd" "eddie, eddie, come over! lia's made it to the finals of the nationwide spelling bee? isn't that amazing?" "we're korean, why's she so good at english for?" - they get increasingly competitive as well. there's always some sort of weird tension between them whenever they meet, but unlike before, it's not built entirely off hostility. puberty's done well for the both of them, and edward's no longer the shrimpy kid with thick frames, but the boy with broad shoulders and a tall stature taking its place, just as natalia's curves have filled out and she's become the girl boys dare each other to go up and get a phone number from.

easter 2014. "so.... i heard you're student council president now." lia mumbles. she's seventeen and he's eighteen now, just about to graduate from high school. both of them have stellar gpas and stunning portfolios to match. "i know you're in council too, lia. what're you trying to play at?" "can't i congratulate you without you suspecting me like that?" he narrows his eyes at her. "fine, fine. what uni are you aiming for?" he rolls his eyes and gives her the answer they both knew was coming. "as if our parents would let us go to anywhere else but ucm."
he's right. both of them end up at ucm, edward entering a year earlier than natalia. when the moons send off their daughter to university, they make a huge fuss out of it and the parks join in on it, calling edward over with gusto and insisting petulantly, that their dear darling eddie take baby natalia under his wing and make sure she doesn't get hurt. natalia argues that she doesn't need help settling in and she's not going to get hurt (and frankly, she's right), but edward's a nice guy and though he huffs, picking up a bag of hers up, he inexplicably does it anyway.
