APPEARANCE : At 171 cm and 49 kg, Taeyeon is taller than your average South Korean female, but she’s also thinner, a fact that she blames on her genes -- (“It’s hard for me to gain weight, okay?”) -- but her friends blame her hyper focus on her academics and her ability to get sidetracked by a new piece. (“If you’d stop playing the piano for more than ten minutes at a time, this wouldn’t be a problem!” / “Let me live, Minho!”) As such, she’s slender and willowy, but with muscle that comes from years of toting around books of sheet music, textbooks, and all the associated course work. Her earlobes are pierced once each, and she tends to keep small, simple studs in the holes, and she tends to wear only necklaces and rings, as bracelets get caught on things. She always wears a watch -- simple, plain black leather band and analog watch face. And she has no tattoos -- nor any interest in obtaining tattoos. Howoever, Taeyeon does have a  bad habit of writing notes in pen on the palm of he rhand or on her arm, paticularly when she doesn’t have paper or her phone handy and she needs to be able to remember something. (“T, what is.... You have a bunch of scribbles [どうして君を好きになってしまったんだろう?]... Is that Japanese?” / “Yeah. Dōe Kimi o Suki ni Natte Shimattandarō. It’s a song. I’m going to learn to play it, make a good piano version of it.” / “Isn’t that a TVXQ song?” / “DBSK. And yes.” / “Aren’t there already piano versions?” / “Not very good ones.”)

FASHION STYLE :

Taeyeon has a very casual, comfortable style that she sticks to during the week. Her days are long, often ridculously so, so she prefers clothing that fits well and looks nice, but that she can also spend hours in without becoming uncomfortable. And she often does spend hours in it. This means a lot of leggings and jeggings, loose tees and jackets in the warmer months and long-sleeves shirts and sweaters in the cooler months. She always has a jacket with her, because some of the classrooms and practice rooms get very cold, and she hates beign cold. During the week she opts for sneakers, flats, and boots.

On the weekend, with fewer obligations, she dresses up a little. Tanks and camis with jackets, dresses. She opts for heels, flats, and boots. She’s more prone to wearing jewlery, too.

For dressy events, dinners, recitals, and performances, she’ll dip into a rarely-seen side of her closet, pulling out dresses and heels. While normally content with all colors and all patterns, her more formal events often boast outfits that are more simple. Plain dresses, plain lady suits. Her favorite dress colors for such events are black, red, and purple. For suits, simple black and pinstripe. She’s not a big fan of dressing to the nines, so don’t expect to see it outside of the formal events.

ELABORATION :

“Taeyeon is....good. Really. But she’s also kind of an idiot. In a good way. She gets so wrapped up in her work sometimes, I don’t think she understands that university isn’t just for academics. She should be networking, partying, living it up. She’s only going to be young once, and she works so hard all the time, living a little isn’t going to kill her. The girl probably has her music theory workbook finished through to the end of the month. And the number of pieces she’s learning just for herself, for purely personal and selfish reasons, on top of what her students and recitals require is ridiculous. How she has time to eat and sleep, I’ll never know. Don’t get me wrong. Taeyeon is... I admire her. She’s got this drive, this passion, that you don’t see all that much any more. She sets goals and he pursues them relentlessly until she’s there and has obtained them. She’s one of the few people here that challenge me and push me to challenge myself. But damn. How does she even do it?” -- Bang Yoonsung, friend & classmate

“You know that look someone gets when they talk about something they really love? Their eyes light up, their face lights up, their-- their everything. They light up, and they light up the space around them, the whole room. Taeyeon gets like that sometimes. When she’s talking about the piano, or her favorite songs. And composing. There was this time... It was during the winter of my first year. She was telling me about the first time she got to physically watch a K-pop group perform one of the songs she’d composed and arranged. I think she even helped a little with the lyrics, though you won’t see her name credited anywhere. Where You At, I think it was called. The group won first on the music program they were on that day. And Taeyeon was there in the audience. She skipped some of her classes that day just to attend. I’ve never seen her light up like that, the way she did when she described how they didn’t react at first, like they didn’t believe it. She said it was their first win ever. She looked so....happy. Happy’s bad word for it. Radiant. She was glowing. It was beautiful.” -- Seo Jimin, friend

“Taeyeon is the sort of person that, if you tell her not to do something -- or, perhaps more precisely, that she can’t do something -- you should sit back and prepared to be amazed as she does exactly what you told her she couldn’t do. And arguably just to spite you. It could be physically impossible, and she’d still somehow find a way to do it. She doesn’t take to challenges like that. Not well, at least. And she doesn’t like conforming. To anything. For any reason. And if you tell her she needs to, be prepared for war. And not even the physical sort of war, but like.. mind tripery warfare.” -- Kim Minho, friend & classmate

“She’s super sweet, very thoughtful. I’m not in any of her classes, and she’s always on the go, so I don’t get to see her as much during the week. But she’s really good about making time to sit down with me to help me with my projects when they come around. I’m a 2D art major, you know? And I prefer to have models for reference. Taeyeon will let me pose her, adjust her clothing, make strange faces or gestures and then hold them for me while I sketch it. I mean, she may complain when she has to sit still for too long, but she always comes back for more, even when she tells me she’s not going to. She’s so good to the people she cares about.” -- Park Seola, friend

I know I give Taeyeon a hard time a lot, but she really is a good person.  We don’t talk a lot between practices -- she’s so busy, always on the go. I don’t know how she has time to sleep, much less balance both of her majors and the additional practice workload. But when we meet up again after not seeing each other for a couple weeks, she’s always interested in how I’ve been and what I’ve been up to. She asks whether I’ve practiced, but she also asks how my parents and brother are, and we talk about how my classes are going and some helpful tips. I know we have two different major focuses, but a lot of the classes I’m in now, she had a couple years ago. When I have trouble with my music theory course and can’t get to the professor or the tutoring sessions, I can go to her, and she’ll explain things in a way that doesn’t make me feel stupid or incompetent. And she loves doing it. Like, if she didn’t love composition and piano so much, she’d  be an amazing teacher.” -- Lee Kisun

“I once watched Taeyeon walk into a bench. Straight up walk into it. I’ve seen her trip over air a couple times, too. Without fail, she’s always got her nose stuck in a book. Like, a book of sheet music. Not evena regular book, a music book. And once when I went into in a cafe just off campus, she was seated at this table, listening to something and looking over a notebook, coffee in one hand, and I'm pretty sure she was doing chords with the other. Chords! I swear, that girl lives and breathes music. But it’s kind of cute, how dedicated she is to it. I don’t think it’s just a major for her like it is for some people. Wannabe trainees that don’t make it, they turn to music in university to cope. A lot of them don’t make it. Most of them don’t. You see idols hit the books a lot, too, but not usually for this. Taeyeon makes it work. Piano, composition, she really loves them both.” -- Lee Kihyuk, classmate

“What do you want to know? She’s got this bad thing where she doesn’t like to rely on other people. It’s ridiculous. She’s so tired during our practices sometimes that her timing is off the whole song and it just gets progressively worse. She doesn’t like asking for help. If she’s overworked, she needs to stop doing so much, drop her second major or stop giving out extra practice slots. I only get one every so often as it is! And she doesn’t like telling anyone else what she’s doing. I know she’s good and all, but she’s not that good. Sure, she’s seen a little success, but that’s not everything. She didn’t even tell anyone that she interned at an entertainment company! I had to find out after overhearing a couple of her friends talking! If you did something like that, wouldn’t you want everyone to know about it?” -- Kim Seorin

PICTURE PERFECT?

Min Taeyeon was born in the late night hours on October 30, 1996. Her parents -- Min Taehyung and Seo Jiyeon -- loved and adored her from the first moment that they laid eyes upon her. Taeyeon’s childhood was full of laughter, love, and excitment. Taehyung was the manager and co-owner as an instrument repair shoped, and Jiyeon  was a choreogrpaher that worked with both dance studios and entertainment companies. Although not as well-known of a ame now, she was well-known in the late 90s and early 00s. Between the two of them, they instilled a deep love of music and the arts in their child, and their home was always filled with music.

Taeyeon’s childhood was, of course, quiet, but good. She was young when she developed an interest in the piano, largely in part to her father’s insistance that they keep an upright in their apartment despite the space it took up. Taeyeon practiced on it every day after school, much to her parents’ delight and their neighbor’s distress. But over the years, Taeyeon improved. And when she was old enough to balance her academics and extra coursework -- the tender age of te -- Taeyeon began taking piano lessons on top of her other schoolwork.

Composition was a tentative thing that began somewhere around age fourteen, but by the time Taeyeon graduated at age 18 in 2018, she’d composed several pieces as was well on her way to composing more.

She took a year off then, a gap year, to work and raise money to pay for her own tuition, and she moved from Daegu to Seoul alone in order to make it happen. She wanted the work experience so she could get a scholarship to the school of her choice (at the time, SNU). Taeyeon was lucky. SM Entertainment took her on as an intern and composer, and she took a second part-time job in a clothing boutique geared toward young women to help raise money. Between the two, she made enough to rent a small apartment for the year while still havign some left over.

After a year, Taeyeon applied for SNU and was accepted on almost full scholarship. It’s been three years now, and she’s still there on full scholarship. Her work credit, contributions, and sales have given her an edge that those offering scholarships for the music program want to see. By doing tutoring and recital practices/performances with the music department, she makes an additional amoung of money that goes to cover additional expenses that scholarships don’t. And rather predictably, her parents are incredibly proud of their baby girl.

ADVENTURES IN THE DORM

ROLE : Taeyeon cooks lunch and dinner and will cook breakfast if anyone is awake and there in the morning. She also helps to tutor the group in a couple subjects, and has been known to occasionally do laundry for people during late nights when she needs a study break or can’t sleep.

LIFESTYLE : Taeyeon mostly uses the dorm as a place to get away from practicing. Yeah, she studies there and has been known to sing and even work on her composition stuff, but she doesn’t practice piano. Piano doesn’t follow her back, and the people she accompanies and plays with don’t bother her there because she keeps her address a secret from everyone except her close friends. The dorm also serves as a home base. She eats there -- she actually sits down (or leans against the counter, close enough) -- and she eats a meal that consists of more than just coffee, a protein bar, and more coffee. She sleeps there, like in an actual bed, not slumped against a piano with her arms crushing the keys as her pillow. And she has something of a social life and is forced to interact with normal (or normal-ish -- how normal are college students, anyway? not very) people. Not music students, but a variety of individuals that don’t immediately settle on her wavelength and force Taeyeon to function like a human and actually converse. And it’s nice, too, to not constantly get caught up in the discussion of which band makes the most out of the exact same chord progression.

PET PEEVE(S)
― The kitchen has to be clean. No trash or food crumb lying around on the counter.
― Dishes done every night, both because they'll pile up with six people in the dorm and because piled dirty dishes tend to smell really bad really fast.
― If you visit her room, no feet on the bed.
― You break it, you buy it. You use it, you replace it.
― Absolutely no iling. It's not fair to the people that want to come home and sleep. If you want to do the dirty, go to their place. Or a motel. Don't bring it home and disturb the people and peace.
― Quiet hours. 12am to 8am. Even though everyone keeps their own odd hours, most people sleep at night. And most people sleep durig the late night/early morning hours. If they're not asleep, they're probably stuying. So be courteous.

ROOM DESIGN : [reference]
Taeyeon’s bedroom is pretty neat and tidy. Her bed, a double, is mostly in the corner of the room, covered with a multitude of blankets -- she likes layering up, even in the summer -- and four or five pillows. Strands of fairy lights cross cross her ceiling and adorn her walls, and there’s a dreamcatcher -- made by Seola for a project -- that hangs above her bed. The wall there by her bed hosts a number of shelves that she keeps msot of he rpersonal belongings on. Picture frames, trinkets, a couple bamboo plants, figurines. In the corner between the bed and wall is a lamp. On the opposide wall is a desk and computer chair, and beside that, carefully tucked away, is a keyboard and equipment she uses for composing, though she’d often rather go out to a practice room. It’s there, however, for the 2am and 3am moments when she can’t make the trek onto campus. On her desk is her laptop, her textbooks, another bamboo plant, and a speaker she attaches her phone to. Beside the desk is a bookshelf with her personal books, sheet music, movies, and cds.  There’s also a small closet tucked in the far corner of the room. She hangs all of her clothing in there, and she has ehr shoes neatly tucked away on the floor of the closet.
THE FAM, THE SQUAD AND THE OTHERS

fc: SugaBang Yoonsung (23, 4th year; piano & composition)
best friend, classmate : 9/10 : snarky, perfectionist, passionate, lazy | Slytherin
Yoonsung and Taeyeon grew up together. It could even be said Taeyeon followed him to SNU. (She didn’t, but that’s their parents’ running joke.) So while Yoonsung tends to quiet down around others, he’s known to be quite loud around her. Perhaps because in order to be heard, he has to speak up, and speak that much louder. Still, the two get along like peas in a  pod. Usually. Taeyeon looks up to Yoonsung and they have a sibling-like relationship, so they do squabble on occasion, but mostly over stupid . As they both have the same  majors, they have almost all over their core music classes together and they frequently team up for projects as well as knuckling down to study and do homework together whenever possible.

“Yoon. Yoons. Yoongs. Yoonsung. Sungie. Bang. Bangup. Banger. Bangalo. Bing Bang Bungalo.”
“For the love of-- what?!”
“Senpai, please notice me!”
“I will notice you with a fist to your face.”
“Please notice me in a less violent way!”
“Oh my god, okay. I’ve noticed you, what the hell do you want?”
“Your music theory class starts in five minutes and you’re a ten minute walk away. Also, I have a practice with Seorin here in a couple minutes, and you scare her. If you don’t leave, she won’t come in, and I won’t be able to get my hour of torture over with, and then I’ll be late to dinner. And Jimin’s cooking his mom’s kimchi jigae recipe tonight. ...so get a move on, heathen.”

Seo Jimin (21, 3rd year; photography & painting)
good friend, classmate, current/ex-roommate : 8/10: savage, blunt, loyal, fashionable | Slytherin
Jimin and Taeyeon met on Jimin’s first day at SNU. At the time, Jimin had just moved to the campus and was wandering after class when he happened upon Taeyeon. She was lounging on a bench outside the music building, reading over a new score she needed to learn while waiting for her turn in a practice room, the fingers of one hand moving gracefully in the air as she studied the chords. Something about the scene caught Jimin’s eye, and without bothering to ask permission -- click. Taeyeon has a thing about having her picture taken and was not enthusiastic about being his subject, but Taeyeon reluctantly allowed Jimin to explain himself -- you looked so....etheral there, so at home and somehow untouchable, I just-- I had to. It was the first time she’d been complimented like that, so sincere and matter-of-fact, and Taeyeon’s obvious surprise gave Jimin the courage he needed to continue talking despite the obvious strain of their initial meeting. The two spoke for a bit before parting ways, but not before swapping numbers and promising to meet up for dinner. Halfway through the year, Jimin’s roommate moved into a frat on campus, and Jimin needed someone to help foot the bills. More than ready to bail on a crazy roommate of her own -- one Kim Seorin -- Taeyeon was quick to take the offer. Unfortunately, Jimin fell into a relationship with another of his models (Sungho) a couple months back. While the two try to be considerate of the fact that Taeyeon is Jimin's actual roommate, they like to spend time together, and Sungho has kinda sorta slowly been moving in and the apartment they share really isn't made for three people. Taeyeon is also sometime iled when all she wants is sleep or food.

“Don’t move, Tink.”
“....what? Why?”
“Just...hold that pose...for another....there we go.”
“Did you just take my picture?”
“Mhmm.”
“I told you no pictures when I’m practicing!”
“You had that look on your face. That I’m-super-into-this-don’t-bother-me look you get when you’re--”
“--really into a song. Yeah, I know. Shut up.”
“So what song is it?”
“Just-- just a song. Shut up.”

fc: ChanKim Minho (20, 2nd year; composition & business)
best friend, classmate : 8/10: funny, inquisitive, messy, loud | Gryffindor
Taeyeon and Minho met through Yoonsung -- which is hilarious, because Yoonsung doesn’t meet people, and he doesn’t exactly make friends easily. But Minho is in their classes, and Minho has a lot of questions, and guess which unlucky sap was stuck answering questions one day when the teacher was out doing other things. You guessed it. Yoonsung is such a lucky guy! Minho followed Yoonsung to his lunch with Jimin, Taeyeon, and Sooah, and the group promptly hit it off. Taeyeon and Minho in particular get along pretty well. They share a similar sense of humor and even though Minho’s more for memes and dumb comedy movies while Taeyeon favors a more sly humor with puns, jokes, and witty comebacks, the two of them together are a force to reckon with. Be relieved that Taeyeon is at least vaguely responsible, or all hell might actually break loose

“Alright, memelord. Stop giving me that look and start talking.”
“Taeyeon, can you play this?”
“...Minho. Dude. Buddy, friend, pal. You realize that this is a MIDI file. Black MIDI. Made on a computer program.”
“Uh huh, and?”
“Fast foward to about two minutes and fourty-five seconds in. How many colors do you see.”
“Uh. Fourteen? Sixteen?”
“And...three minutes, fifteen seconds.”
“Holy shi--”
“How many hands do you think I have, Minho?”
“Not enough, holy .”
“Why don’t you go to four and a half minutes in. Or...five. Five would be good.”
“No thanks, I’m good. This looks impossible.”
“That’s the whole idea behind blacking, bud. It’s art, and it’s absolutely impossible.”

fc: SeungheePark Sooah (20, 2nd year; 2d art)
best friend : 9/10 : chipper,  sociable, guiless, realistic | Hufflepuff
Every girl has a best friend, a Tom to their Jerry, the peanut to their butter. Taeyeon’s lucky to have a couple great guy friends alongside her supremely excellent lady friend. And what a lady friend Sooah is. Taeyeon and Sooah met through an unofficial anime club that some of the students started. They hit it off immediately, bonding over mutual love for Your Lie In April, Your Name, and Tekkon Kinkreet. As an art student with a desire to become a mangaka, Sooah loved the colors and technique, and as a musician, Taeyeon was inclined toward the audible side of things. Together they enjoyed the story and brought more sound and color into each others lives. Because of their different majors and schedules, they don’t get to talk or hang out much, but they text and IM frequently, and they have a set night each week where thy’ll sit down and watch an episode or two of whatever anime they’re working on. Either together in Sooah’s dorm room or seperately while they spaz to each other over IM. They also read manga in their free time and rec to each other frequently. Additionally, as an art student that desires to become a manga artist, Sooah currently prefers to draw from models to get her work to be as realistic as possible, and Taeyeon is one of the few people she asks to model for her.

It was through Sooah that Taeyeon met Inha. Rather, Sooah found a flier with information about someone looking for roommates while out looking for good spots to sit and draw, and aware of Taeyeon's increasing issues with Jimin and his boyfriend, he passed it on to her.

“Can I move yet?”
“No.”
“My nose itches.”
“Sorry. Hold still.”
“I have to pee.”
“You’re so lady-like. Five more minutes.”
“Oh my god, Sooah, you that that five minutes ago! I’ve been posing like this for hours!”
“You’ve been in that pose for twenty-two minutes and....seventeen seconds. Before you ask, I know that because I’m timing myself. It’s not that hard to model, T. All you have to do is be still for a few minutes. Do you never stop moving?”
“No. To stop moving is to relinquish my soul back into the dark depths of the underbelly of the music department, and I’ve spent the last three years trying to crawl my way out. I’ve come too far to let it all slip away from me now.”
“How terrifying. What happens when you sleep?”
“I don’t. I’m a music student. I survive off caffeine, spite, and sheer willpower.”
“...incredible. And you’re good to move. I’m done for now.”
“Thank god! I’m free!”

fc: SominLee Kisun (19, 1st year; cello [strings])
friend, pain in the  of sorts : 7/10 : tenacious, scheming, witty, passionate | Ravenclaw

If asked to describe Kisun in one word, Taeyeon would probably answer with “scheming.” Or “Ravenclaw.” Excluding the whole Harry Potter reference, that actually describes Kisun with a startling accuracy. She’s sharp and astute, a keen intelligence about her. She’s an excellent student, and despite how difficult she can be (often intentionally, as Taeyeon likes to protest), she’s great to work with because she dedicates herself to her studies. But Kisun also as a streak to her -- that scheming streak -- that has her dipping her fingers and focus into the personal and private affairs of others. OF course, Kisun claims it’s for a good cause,  but Taeyeon really, truly, honestly has no desire to know why Kisun is suddenly so interested in Taeyeon and her brother. Kisun’s interest can only lead to trouble. (Maybe good trouble. It is Kisun. And it’s not like she’s evil or anything. But. ....it is Kisun.) The two most often interact within the practice rooms, as Taeyeon is Kisun’s favorite accompanist, and Taeyeon will hit the practice rooms at midnight or before dawn just to make time for her in an otherwise packed schedule. But they do encounter each other at the tutoring sessions (Taeyeon gives lessons in classes Kisun is currently taking), and occasionally on the weekend or at student/school-hosted events.

“Do you hate me or something?”
“Why would you think that?”
“You literally go out of your way to make my life difficult.”
“I don’t go out of my way!”
“Last month you changed your performance piece a week before the forum.”
“You’re an excellent pianist. I had no doubt you would be able to learn the piece and catch my cues.”
“We only practiced together twice. And you’ve very lucky that I was already familiar with the piece to begin with.”
“Taeyeon, think of it as....a lesson in how to deal with my brother.”
“A lesson in-- ...why are you giving me lessons in how to deal with your brother? What does Kihyuk have to do with this?”
“...absolutely nothing, Forget I said anything. Hey, Tae, did Minho show you that guitar version for I Giorni that he found?”
“I found it and showed it to him first. Kisun, your attempt to change the subject won’t work. What was that about your brother?”
“How hard do you think it is to learn the guitar?”
“......”

fc: YeosangLee Kihyuk (20, 2nd year; composition & vocal)
friend, classmate, crush : 9/10 : sassy, passionate, loyal, driven | Gryffindor
Taeyeon and Kihyuk don’t talk as much as Taeyeon and Minho, or even Taeyeon and Sooah. Despite having classes in the same building, they only have a couple elective classes together. But that doesn’t stop them from running into each other on and off campus, and it definitely doesn’t stop them from running into each other between classes in the music building. When they do meet and have a chance to talk, they get along well. Kihyuk’s a good guy, passionate about his work in the same way Taeyeon is, but also driven in a way that is inherently familiar. But he’s also got a bit of a mouth on him, and as much as Taeyeon appreciates sass, she’s got enough going on that she doesn’t need to be sassed herself. Which happens. Sometimes. Kihyuk goes to her on occasion for help with his classes -- they’re music majors after all, and everyone has to take theory and history of music. But because they’re also composition majors, Taeyeon is a reliable source ot go to when Kihyuk is struggling with concepts. Kihyuk is also good friends with Minho, and the two have been known to tag team pester Taeyeon about coursework, which she doesn’t mind. Mostly. And if she’s happened to develop a soft spot for him over the last year... Well, don’t hold it against her.

“Taeyeon! Hey, Tae, noona, hold on a minute!”
“Kihyuk.”
“Thanks for waiting, noona.”
“...you know I hate when you call me that. I don’t let Minho call me that, either.”
“I know. So don’t ignore me next time and try to walk faster. My legs are longer than yours. I’ll just catch up.”
“...not if I hide first.”
“What?”
“Nothing! What’s up, did you need something?”
“Actually... I’m tyring to choose my classes for next semester and I just found out I have a required class I have to add. The IPA one? It wasn’t in the offered courses when I was figuring out which classes to sign up for, but my vocal instructor said I needed to sign up for it.”
“Yeah. It’s... We have a lot of music students, but not as many vocal students. And because it’s a required class for vocal majors, but not cellists like Kisun or pianists like me. It basically teaches you how to properly sight read words and how to pronounce them while singing. So you may not know Italian--”
“I don’t know Italian?”
“--but you’re able to pretend you do with this course. First semester is English, Spanish, and Italian. Second is French, German, and Latin.”
“Why wasn’t it in the offered courses?”
“The school waits until they have enough students at the right level, then they offer it, so as many people as possible can take it all at once.”
“Oh.”
“I’m taking it this year.”
“Oh. You are? But I thought.... You’re a piano major?”
“I’m taking it to suppliment my composition courses. I got a crash course last year from my professor, but I decided to sign up this year as an elective. So if you have questions in class, I should be able to help.
“Oh. That-- that’s actually really relieving. Thanks.”

“You’re welcome. Minho will be in it, too.”
“That’s right. He’s a composition major.”
“Right. And because he’s pissed that Yoonsung leaves him messages written in IPA and it takes him hours and a textbook to figure out what it says.”
“....why?”
“Because Yoonsung is an who holds grudges over petty things, and Minho ate his favorite pudding two months ago and didn’t replace it.”

fc: SeulgiKim Seorin (20, 2nd year; vocal)
a student that Taeyeon can’t stand, ex-roommate : 3/10 : pretentious, confident, lazy, proud | Slytherin
A vocal music student that is constantly late to classes and practices, doesn’t practice properly, and always demands Taeyeon accompany her for recitals and lesson work. Taeyeon would refuse, but Seorin is also the daughter of one of the music professors (someone Taeyeon looks up to), and is her ex-roommate, and Taeyeon really doesn’t need the added drama of trying to explain why she’s ignoring their only child, so she agrees.

“Stop, Seorin. Stop. Just...stop.”
“Why? What did I do now?”
“Do you practice at all?”
“I’m at practice right now. Obviously.”
“No, I mean... It’s been a week. Did you practice at all since I saw you last Tuesday?”
“I’m practicing right now.”
“Seorin, that’s not what I’m asking.”
“I’m here. I’m practicing.”
“Your forum is next Thursday. You don’t have the song memorized, you’re flat in the chorus, and you keep speeding up.”
“Then speed up with me!”
“Seorin, this-- this is a ballad! A lullabye! Ninety-four bpm, not one hundred and...four? Five?”
“Does ten beats per measure really make that much of a difference? Just keep up.”
“Yes, Seorin. Yes, it really matters. This is for a grade. Your grade. Not mine.”
“...fine, then let’s try it again.”
“Okay. From the beginning?”
“Sure.”

fc: JungyeonYu Inha (22, 4th year; journalism & communications)
roommate : 7/10 : diligent, reckless, shy, a bit of a mess | Hufflepuff

Taeyeon and Inha get along decently well. Their majors are completely different, so they don’t share any courses, but Ihna did help Taeyeon find somewhere safe to live -- safe as in no iling, no crazy music students hunting her down or interrupting her minimal sleep, and a limited stress environment. So Taeyeon lives Inha. A lot. She’s a good girl, a good student, and she’s...nice. she’s nice. A little crazy, but enthusiastic. Genuine. And Taeyeon appreciates it. Although their coursework doesn’t cross over much, Taeyeon helps Inha when she can, whether it be helping her herself, or referring her to other students in the tutoring program. At the house, Taeyeon is happy to relax with her, watching movies or helping with chores and housework. But during week, Taeyeon and Inha don’t talk or hang out as much due to those conflicting schedules and Taeyeon being so busy.

fc: SugaBang Yoonsung (23, 4th year; piano & composition)
best friend, classmate : 9/10 : snarky, perfectionist, passionate, lazy | Slytherin

Be relieved that Taeyeon is at least vaguely responsible, or all hell might actually break loose.

It was through Minho that Taeyeon met Inha. Rather, Minho found a flier with information about someone looking for roommates while , and aware of Taeyeon's increasing issues with Jimin and his boyfriend, he passed it on to her.

Rather, Sooah found a flier with information about someone looking for roommates while out looking for good spots to sit and draw, and aware of Taeyeon's increasing issues with Jimin and his boyfriend, she passed it on to her. Still, it took Taeyeon another few days to actually follow up on the flier. She liked living with Jimin, and she liked his boyfriend. She just...didn't like the ling, or the being edged out, or thirdwheeling. But three days after Sooah gave her the flier, Taeyeon sought out Inha for an interview.

“Taeyeon! Taeyeon Taeyeon Taeyeon Taeye--”
“Yes?”
“Oh. You’re awake. Good.”
“It’s noon on Saturday. Of course I’m awake.”
“Great. So I’m having issues with this paper I’m writing for my media course.”
“Do you need a tutor?”
“....kind of? But not exactly.”
“Okay. So what do you need?”
“I...have no idea what to write.”
“What’s the topic?”
“I...might have been late to pick my topic, so I got stuck with media play in the media.”
“Oh. ....okay, I can actually help with this.”
“You can?”
“Yeah. Remember the resume I gave you when I interviewed for the room? I’ve worked with entertainment companies before. I....know a decent amount about media play, I guess you could say.”
“Oh. That’s great! Well, I mean, not great-great, but good for me-great!”
“Here, let me grab my laptop and I’ll meet you in your room?”
“Awesome, thanks!”

TALK TO ME

Hello! The name's Inha and I would like to ask a few questions if that would be alright with you? “Sure.” [A smile, quick and reflexive, but no less sincere.] “Go ahead. I’ve got a break for the next hour or so.”

Awesome! Okay, so as you can see, I am having a huge trouble on finding some roomies for the hugeass room which where we are right now. First things first, do you want to live here? “I…” [There’s a quick glance at the room, lingering on the closed doors leading off from the main room they’re sitting in. A mental tally of the doors: six. Five roommates, including the one interviewing her. Five is a lot. But manageable.] “I do. This seems like a nice place. And it’s actually a lot closer to campus than where I’m currently staying.” [Her smile darkens a little, wry and with a dry, almost snide twist to it.] “And as an added bonus, I don’t imagine you’ll unintentionally ile me every other night when all I want is my bed, comfy pajamas, and sleep. My current roommate does that. And as much as I love him and like his boyfriend, our two-bedroom was not made for three people. And I hate being the third wheel on the rare occasions that I make it home for dinner.”

What can you do? Can you do the laundry? Set up the appliances? Clean the whole dorm? Help us with our thesis? Oh, can you cook too?? [A nose wrinkles up, the far corner of her lips twisting back into an amused smile.] “I’ve been told I’m a good cook. I keep some odd hours for my major, [The smile widens marginally, smug and amused, because such is the life of a music major.] “but if someone makes sure we have the ingredients on hand, I can cook dinner before I head out to my evening class. My morning classes change by day, so you’d be on your own for breakfast unless you’re here when I am, but I generally have a clear period during lunch, so I can also make something then for those that want it and are around. I’ll also help keep the kitchen clean, since I prefer a clean area to work, but I would expect help.” [Her head tilts, a quick glance toward the wall to gather thoughts, then back.] “I can also help tutor in most music courses, both basic and advanced; psychology; basic chemistry, biology, math, and business; and the Japanese language. So it depends on what your thesis is.”

Can you make homemade kimchi? This is for homework!
“I can make homemade kimchi.” [This time there’s a flash of teeth in the smile, and laughter in her voice.] “I can make most traditional dishes. My mother loves to cook in her free time; she insisted I learn. I can also make some traditional Japanese and Chinese cuisine, if you’re curious, and a couple Western dishes. And if you’ve got a recipe you want to try, all I need is the recipe and ingredients.”

Ehh, what year are you? And your major? Do you have a minor as well? “I’m a third year. Instrumental music major with a focus in piano, and my minor is basically a second major – composition. I took a year off to raise money for part of my tuition and to get enough hours of work experience that would give me a scholarship for my composition classes.”

If I sleep on your bed just because it's more comfy than mine, would you kick my ? [A hand lifts, knuckles pressing to her lips to hide the smile and quell the laughter that almost bubbles forth.] “I told you I keep odd hours. When I’m done with my evening class and whatever practices I have scheduled, I usually take a couple hours to study my coursework and watch an episode or two of whatever show I’m on. You can sleep in my bed until I go to bed. Then you’ll have to vacate and head to your own or I’ll go crash in your room and wake you up whenever I come back to get ready for the day. And I’m not kidding about odd hours. You might end up at wide awake at six in the morning one day because I have a recital practice in half an hour.”

Ohhh, that's cool! I have this very important question--a life and death situation. Are you ready to answer it? [There’s no real answer, just an expectant noise as her hand lowers to her lap, other hand shifting to mess with the ring she wears.]

If I'm failing, please tutor me? *cues dramatic weeping effect* [This time there is a laugh, bold and bright and sunny, startled from her by the unexpected question.] “I can’t guarantee I’ll be of help, but I’ll do what I can. I did well in high school, and my majors required a few basic courses from other areas. If I can’t, I’m close with a few tutors for other departments.”

Alright! That is all for now, I'll be contacting you again once I get over your career vitae! Wait--you do have one right? [A page protector is passed over, the contents a handful of papers neatly typed and organized.] “My current roommate told me I should have one ready in case you asked, but I don’t think you’ll have much to get over. Most of this is a list of fellow students I’ve performed with or accompanied during recitals, and it’s boring to read over,” [A quick smile, almost apologetic.] “even for me. It does list what areas I can tutor in, and the songs entertainment companies have purchased. But again, still kind of boring.”
LOVE OF MY LIFE

FACECLAIM : Yeosang (Ateez)
BACK-UP FACECLAIM : San (Ateez), Hongjoong (Ateez)

PERSONALITY : Kihyuk is your average, everyday Gemini and Gryffindor. He’s bold, and bright, and beatific, with a positive and outgoing nature. He’s very much a people person, a social butterfly, flitting from circle to circle with ease, meeting new people and befriending a majority of them. It’s a good quality for musicians to possess, as it makes networking easy. But he’s also passionate and driving, boldly pursuing the things he loves with a passion that is enviable and admirable. Taeyeon admires his determination to work hard to do what he wants and loves to do, and she appreciates the fact that he understands when he’s out of his depth and is willing to ask for help when he needs it. He’s not perfect by any means -- he’s still a college student, still parties, sleeps in, slacks off, makes stupid choices. But he’s worked hard to get into the school, and he works hard to maintain his GPA and to stay on top of all of his classes.

FIRST MEETING : Kihyuk and Taeyeon actually met through Seorin who was Taeyeon’s roommate during Taeyeon’s first semester last year. After  a miserable first semester of being subjected to Seorin’s bad habits and party hard nights, Taeyeon bailed on her to room with Jimin. But not before meeting one Lee Kihyuk. As a composition student, it was inevitable for them to meet, but it was barely two weeks into the semester that Seorin brought Kihyuk over for a music theory study session. At the time, Taeyeon had been in the room, hunched over her desk and working hard on a composition for class. She didn’t look up when Seorin and Kihyuk entered, but it didn’t stop her from paying attention, partcularly as the duo settled down and got to work. They encountered problems immediately, but Taeyeon said nothing until, with a meek voice, Seorin asked her for help a little over an hour later. Taeyeon helped the with that particular question, outlined the rest of the assignment in easy to understand words, and left them to it. And that was that. At the end of the evening, Kihyuk approached Taeyeon, thanked her for the help, and left.

DEVELOPEMENT : here

INTERACTIONS :

Kihyuk came over a couple times each week during the semester, studying with Seorin and working on projects for their shared class. If Taeyeon had actually thought about it, she might have wondered why Seorin was a pain on the best days, and Taeyeon was only her roommate; she couldn’t imagine being in Seorin’s classes or partnering up with her. It didn’t occur to Taeyeon that Kihyuk might have been coming to see her -- or, at least, partially to see her. It didn’t occur to her until she moved out of the girls’ dorm and into Jimin’s place at the end of the semester.

And then Kihyuk caught her after class about a week after the start of the semester -- a couple weeks after Taeyeon had moved in with Jimin, arms loaded down with textbooks and expression one of utter misery.

“Help me. Please.”

For the next four hours, Taeyeon bounced from private practices with students to the study room Kihyuk had holed himself up in, back and forth, answering questions in the few minutes hse had between practices before disappearing back into the depths of the music building. But by the end of the night, Kihyuk had understod the assignment and no longer looked as if the world was bearing down upon his shoulders, or as if he wanted to pull his hair out.

The following Wednesday found him waiting outside of her class again, this time looking distressed and frazzled. And from the way his hair had clumped, he’d been struggling with the assignment for a couple days. But considering the rules of 17th century harmonies and hymnal music of the era, Taeyeon wasn’t surprised. It took fifteen minutes in the practice room to set Kihyuk straight -- fifteen minutes of playing examples and helping Kihyuk figure out which were right and which weren’t (and why) for him to understand. It cut Taeyeon’s break between practices short and ate into the time she allotted herself for dinner, but seeing Kihyuk smile like the world was no longer out to get him was worth it.

When he appears again the week after that, looking hopeful, Taeyeon sighed and brought him back to Jimin’s apartment after her back to back practices and walked him through what had been explained (so very poorly) in class. It was then that Taeyeon gave him her number, telling him that the next time he needed help, text her and she’d tell him when he was free. (This relieved Kihyuk gratefully, and that was when Taeyeon found out he’d looked for her for most of that first week before a passing comment from one of her vocal kids sent him in the direction of her classroom. It was also then that she found out that the reason he’d stuck with Seorin that first semester was because Taeyeon actualy knew what she was doing, and she made more sense that the tutors.)

It doesn’t take Jimin long to get used to Taeyeon’s study dates with Kihyuk. He thinks it’s cute, in fact, and toward the middle of the semester, he makes sure to tell Taeyeon that. She...doesn’t apprecate it, and she makes sure to host her study dates with Kihyuk in the campus library or one of the music building’s study rooms for the rest of the semester. Which is also fine with her, because the more time she spends way from Jimin, she safer she is. (The only problem, however, lies in the fact that she’s iled on numerous occasions after that, rarely intentionally, but always done nonetheless.)

The remainder of the year passes without incident. The following year, Taeyeon’s third year, continues in much the same way. This year, however, sees change. After moving out of Jimin’s apartment and into an apartment with Inha and four others, Taeyeon and Kihyuk also spend more time together. Kihyuk is, after all, a vocal student, and he’s expected to begin performing. Due to his familiarity with Taeyeon, he begins practices with her, and due to her comfort with him, their tutoring/studying sessions continue. This year, however, brings change. Kihyuk’s younger sister has joined the student body, and Taeyeon finds herself under fire from one very curious and very observant sibling.

In the months that follow, Taeyeon finds a somewhat easy routine, balancing her personal coursework, her private lessons and practices with the music students, and her tutoring sessions with her friends. Between that, she finds comfort in the peace and sanctuary of the apartment she shares with Inha and the other students. Every so often her friends visit, and every so often Kihyuk seeks her out for extra homework help or to work on a project. It’s....nice. It’s  comforting. It’s familiar.

And yet somehow...it’s just not enough?

TRIVIAS
― Kihyuk knows better than to tak vocal/piano stuff to Taeyeon at the apartment, but that doesn't stop him from taking music theory homework or other class assignments to her. It's a piano free zone, not a music free zone.
― When he comes over during the week for study sessions (as opposed to meeting on campus somewhere at a specified time), he always brings a snack or some sort of food, usually because it means he's catching Taeyeon after hours of private practices, and she's generally forgotten or neglected to eat. Yes. She makes food for the others, but she still forgets to eat something herself.
― He carries granola bars, power bars, and snack sized bags of healthy snacks in his bag so that between classes or practices, she can stuff one into her hands or her bag and "make sure you eat today!"
― Taeyeon thinks he's just being friendly. Her friends think it's cute and tell her as  much any time they witness it (Minho is usually the lucky one, since he's also a composition major). Kisun Knows Something and is Not To Be Trusted. Inha also probably Knows Something, but is trustowrthy enough that Taeyeon trusts her not to blabber it. (The others are Debatable.)
― Kihyuk actually likes her. Has probably liked her since his first year/her second year when she and Seorin were roomming together. Taeyeon is just kind of obliviou and wrapped up in her studies.
― They like to swap music. Taeyeon listens to a lot of instrumental stuff and she has a soft spot for some Kpop groups (particularly those she's composed for), but Kihyuk is a nerd for Krock, Jpop, and Jrock, and that often finds them writing out lists on sticky notes or texting/messaging each other songs or song links.
― Taeyeon got Kihyuk of listening to instrumental music and Ambient Mixer stuff while he studies. It does, indeed, help him focus. So it's not uncommon for find them in her dorm room listneing to some Hogwarts Common Room mix or a Coffee Shop mixer. (She listens to them on her own, too, but usually with headphones, so it's less obvious to the roommates.)
― Kihyuk is saved into her phone contacts as "Lee Kihyuk" (she's so creative, right?), but in her messagine apps, he's "☼ Kiki"
― Taeyeon's in his phone as "Taeyeon noona" and his messgaing apps as "☆ Taeyeonnie"
― Sometimes they have conversations (usually about their day) using only emotes or emojis. It's a game...challenge...thing. And anyone that happens to get a loot at their screens is generally either confused af or ridiculously amused.
― Kihyuk and Taeyeon usually team up for projects in their composition class, which means Inha and the others will be seeing him. (Which means they'll be catching on pretty quickly.)
- When it's getting late and they're working together either on campus or at Taeyeon's, Kihyuk keeps a close eye on the time and make excuses to leave when it's late  enough that Taeyeon starts yawning.
- When they're at the apartment, he also pointedly tells her to go to bed soon and to not stay up to work on things.
- He's slowly being integrated into the friend group. Minho already knows him well and is cool with it. Yoonsung knows him through Minho and similar courses. Jimin and Sooah are just getting there and they like him well enough. (They like the effect he has on Taeyeon even more.)
- When she's working on songs for a new group, he's one of the first people (usually right after Yoonsung and sometimes Minho) that she takes it to. She likes getting his opinion, since he's more into that music than she is, and she values his thoughts.
- So yes, he knows about the wins her music's gotten. And sometimes, if he can get off, he goes to music shows with her to see groups perform her songs.

IDEAL ENDING : I don't usually ask for this, but let them be together and be happy! Kihyuk is good for Taeyeon, reminds her to eat and safe care and think of things outside of work. She just. Needs a good nudge or two lmao

GOODBYE!

COMMENTS : Okay so just to let you know, I went with western years/age because sobs weakly it was making my brain hurt. Aaand it should absolutely not surprise you that a lot of the quirks and habits and such were taken from people I actually went to school with. Music majors are an odd bunch. Very odd. I was one, I would know. uhh the coding on the relationships area might be messed up, but I think I finally fixed it! I also added some info and uh. things. The stars next to the names are links to songs that would be their ringtones in Taeyeon's phone. They're also songs that make her think of them. I'll update this section with the roommates after they're chosen, because jdskfkgaksd ;w; I love musicy stuff and Taeyeon would absolutely give everyone their own ringtone and stuff. uhm. also the bio section is bad I'm so sorry I hate writing bios like ew how horrible how awful ich hasse die Biografie!

SCENE SUGGESTIONS
― One of the roommates hasn't seen Taeyeon in....a while. probably all day sort of thing, and even though she warned them she had a busy day and wouldn't be around, she literally wasn't around, so someone hunts her down and finds her asleep in a practice room on a piano and they have to drag her home.
― Someone walks in on her and Kihyuk cuddled up on her bed, watching a movie on her laptop. And even though they promptly scoot apart, and protest innocence, there's some teasing to be had.
― Please let the roommies be a little nosy/curious and ask invasive Dad Mode questions so she can just "I'm older than you why are you like this?"
― Taeyeon lowkey momming the roommies when it comes to making food and doing their laundry sometimes bc she's awake and needs something to keep herself busy
― The other roommies find out about her past internship and her songs being used by companies and geek out. And Taeyeon gets shy shy shy
