Personality

Minki´s personality can be split into two. His real personality and how he actually is and then his “on stage” personality, resulting from the image that has been pushed on him by the company and the fans. The image he would very much like to shed, as it isn´t him and because it means he isn´t viewed the same as the older members of Twilight.
Off stage personality:
Minki is a character. To him life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all. He likes to talk about what is – or better yet, to just go out and do it and he leaps before he looks, fixing his mistakes as he goes, rather than sitting idle, preparing contingencies and escape clauses. He lives in the moment and dives into the action –he is the eye of the storm. He enjoys drama, passion, and pleasure, not for emotional thrills, but because it’s so stimulating to his logical mind. He is forced to make critical decisions based on factual, immediate reality in a process of rapid-fire rational stimulus response. This also means that school was very tough for Minki. Not because he isn´t smart, but the regimented, lecturing approach of formal education is just so far from the hands-on learning that he enjoys. Also problematic is the fact that to Minki it makes more sense to use his own moral compass than someone else’s. Rules were made to be broken is Miki´s personal belief. Minki is full of passion and energy, complemented by a rational, if sometimes distracted, mind. Inspiring, convincing and colorful, he is a natural group leader, pulling everyone along the path less traveled, bringing life and excitement everywhere he goes.

Bold & direct: Minki is full of energy and there is no greater joy to him than pushing boundaries and discovering and using new things and ideas. He likes provoking and loves to see the response it gets out of people. He also doesn´t take from anyone and will call you out if you say something he doesn´t agree with. He prefers to communicate clearly and likes direct and factual questions and answers. Facts are more important to him than feelings or emotions, which means he can come across as kind of an at times. He finds emotional situations awkward and uncomfortable and his direct way of being doesn´t help. He has a lot of trouble acknowledging and expressing his own emotions. Most people would call him emotionally constipated, which is absolutely true.
Rational & practical: Minki is also very rational and practical. He loves knowledge and philosophy, but not for his own sake. What is fun for him is actually finding ideas that are actionable and then drilling into the details so he can put them to use. If a discussion is completely arbitrary, there are so many better uses for Minki´s time. This also means that he hates small talk and avoids it as much as humanly possible. It bores him to death.
Original: Minki loves experimenting with new ideas and new solutions. He puts things together in ways nobody else would think to do and comes up with creative and original solutions to problems. He´s very much a doer and an action-oriented problem solver. He is very much in his element when there is a crisis requiring urgent action, as he will think of a way to solve the crisis very quickly in a way that nobody else would be able to.
Perceptive: His originality and ability to come up with new ideas and new solutions is very much helped by the fact that Minki is extremely perceptive. He notices when things change, but also when they need to change. This combined with him being bold and direct, means he isn´t afraid to speak up and say something when he feels that something needs to change. He is an avid supporter of the LGBT+ community and often voices his opinions on these topics. He´s also not afraid to voice his opinions on the South Korean government and the thing he criticizes the most is the pressure put on many South Korean children to do amazing in school. Small changes in habits and appearances stick out to Minki and he uses these observations to help create a connection to others.
Sociable: Overall Minki is a sociable creature. He´s an outspoken extrovert to the max, and a natural born leader, although this isn´t something her actively seeks. He´s just good at making excellent use of social interactions and networking opportunities and is very good at convincing others about what he believes. Minki would love to be an inspiration to people and this is something he actively tries to achieve.
Self-assured to the point of arrogance: Minki is extremely self-assured. Despite his young age, he knows who he is, what he wants, and what he believes in. He believes that his opinions are the right ones and seeks to educate people on what he believes is right.
Impatient: Minki moves at his own pace to keep himself excited. Slowing down because someone else “doesn’t get it” or having to stay focused on a single detail for too long is extremely challenging for him.
Risk-prone: This impatience sometimes causes Minki to push into uncharted territory without thinking of the long-term consequences. He sometimes intentionally combats boredom with extra risk.
Demanding: This impatient-ness also causes Minki to be very demanding. As he doesn´t slow down, this means he demands a lot of the people around him especially in regards to teaching choreography to s. He isn´t good at slowing down and teaching them, but has a tendency to keep pushing on in his own tempo and this means that he often demands that the members learn choreography as quickly as he does, which is almost impossible for someone who hasn´t danced for 90% of their life like Minki has.
Unstructured: Minki sees an opportunity – to fix a problem, to advance, to have fun – and seize the moment, often ignoring rules and social expectations in the process. This may get things done, but it can create unexpected social fallout.
Defiant & rebellious: As mentioned Minki thinks rules are made to be broken. He won’t be boxed in. Repetition, hardline rules, sitting quietly while getting lectured isn’t how Minki lives his life. He is action-oriented and hands-on. If you try to push him into a box or set rules for him, all he will do is get upset and break those rules in the biggest and most dramatic way he can.
Doesn´t think things through: Minki tends to act too quickly, without thinking things through, and focusing too much on the current task at the expense of longer term or interpersonal issues. If he is caught up in an immediate crisis, he misses the forest for the trees, nor takes account of the sensitivities of others. He also has a tendency to turn to a new problem before the last one has been fully completed.
Misses the bigger picture: Minki lives very much in the moment and this causes Minki to miss the forest for the trees. He loves to solve problems here and now, perhaps too much. All parts of a project can be perfect, but the project will still fail if those parts do not fit together.

On stage personality:
Because Minki is the youngest male member of Twilight, and because of his pretty looks, Minki has been pushed by the company and by Twilight´s fans into being a very sweet, soft, and cute person when on stage. He isn´t viewed in the same light as the older members of Twilight and this is something that frustrates him tremendously. He knows however, that if he decides to just say screw it to his image and go against Moon Entertainments wants, he will end up being forced to leave Twilight. And despite not actually wanting to be an idol at first, he isn´t going to scew up his chance now that he finally has it. Therefore, he lives with it, until the day he can finally say, “Screw it,” shed his sweet persona, and be who he actually is. On stage he often acts cute and like the perfect dongsaeng, always doing what he´s told by the older members, and always using formal language and never forgetting his honorifics. Not even if the group plays the age-swap game, will Minki, stop using honorifics. It may be a game, and the purpose of the game may be for the younger members to drop honorifics, but Minki refuses to play always calling the older male members “Hyungnim/hyung”, the older female members “Noonim/noona”, older idols "sunbae/sunbaenim" and so on.

Background Hwang Minki was born in Mokpo city, South Korea on Christmas day (December 25) 1998. He was an only child in a family that missed nothing and was fairly well off.
Minki is very much what you would call a child of the industry. He was in Seoul with his mother to go to a family birthday party when he was just 7 years old, and they had forgotten to get a card to go along with their present, so they went into a mall to buy a card. Minki being only seven years old wasn´t allowed to stay alone in the car and followed along into the mall. Here a scout from SM Entertainment immediately took notice of Minki´s looks and approached them with the proposition of giving Minki singing and dancing lessons, (I know this seems extremely young, but if SM has no qualms about approaching Krystals parents when she was just five… I don´t feel like this is something they would be against doing.) Minki had never through about becoming an idol, especially being so young, but his mother immediately thanked the scout and when they got home to Mokpo she talked it over with Minki´s dad. They decided it would be a good opportunity for the family and thus said yes on Minki´s behalf. This meant that the family relocated to Seoul and Minki started his singing and dancing lessons. And everything was going fine until Minki turned 10. However when he turned 10 Minki began questioning why his parents had forced him to start training at such a young age. He had throughout his training discovered that he had ability for dance and absolutely loved doing it, and at 10, he started skipping his vocal classes and spent that time in the practice room dancing instead of going to his vocal classes. This caused SM to cut him after just 2 weeks of him doing this. Minki´s parents were heartbroken and they pressured Minki into auditioning for another company. This was in 2008 and Minki auditioned for Cube Entertainment in order to appease his parents. He hadn´t expected to make it in, but he did and thus he began training at Cube. However, his training at Cube only lasted two years as they quickly discovered that his habit of skipping vocal classes hadn´t stopped. So they cut him as well. Minki´s parents were sad as they thought it was because Minki wasn´t good enough. But they pressured him into auditioning again. So once again, on his parents request Minki auditioned for his third company, this time being Pledis entertainment. At this point he had almost given up on making it in, but they saw his dancing talents and he made it. But Minki didn´t really want to be an idol. He was tired of the training and not having any freedom. And he knew skipping vocal classes would get him cut. While at Pledis Minki enrolled in Sunhwa Arts Middle School.  And he once again skipped vocal classes and as he had assumed, he was cut from Pledis as well after a year. Now Minki´s parents were starting to get very annoyed with him. This was the third company he had been cut from, and they now knew why he had been cut. It was because of his behavior and they felt that he was being immature and not taking his training seriously. This caused a huge argument between Minki and his parents, with Minki accusing his parents of only saying yes to the SM scout back when he was seven so they could get a famous son. Luckily, the family cleared up the air and his parents assured Minki that they had seen an opportunity to give him and had taken it. This made Minki feel a little better about the whole becoming an idol thing and he decided he would give training another go, this time taking it seriously. And it was very hard for him to find a company that would take him, but he ended up at NH Media. Here he trained for another 2 years before it was decided in 2014, that he didn´t have what they were looking for. This was the fourth company that Minki had been cut from. He graduated middle school and decided that he would give becoming an idol one last chance. He had spent too much of his life training for this, to give up. So he auditioned for a company called Moon Entertainment. They knew of his history, but were willing to give him a chance and so in 2014 Minki was accepted as a trainee for Moon Entertainment. He also enrolled in School of Performing Arts Seoul (SOPA) along with a bunch of other trainees and idols in 2014, majoring in applied music. You most likely would have expected him to major in applied dance, however he chose applied music as he already had the techinality down in dancing from his many years of training and wanted to know more about music as a whole. He graduated in 2017, but due to training with the Twilight members, he was unable to attend the graduation ceremony.

She´s the second closest of the female members to him, despite their age difference. Minki often goes to her whenever he doesn´t feel good about his persona, but as he´s emotionally-constipated she essentially has to drag it out of him before he tells her. This is the case with most feelings for Minki and is a theme of their relationship.
— Fake-dad / TBA / TBA / Twilight member / Much like Minki´s relationship with “The mother”, Minki sees “The father” like the father he wishes he had had. Minki isn´t as close with this member as he is with some of the others, but he would love to be closer to him, as he has immense respect for the older man.
— Frenemies / TBA / TBA / Twilight member / Minki and “The sun” are alike, but also different. Real Minki adores “the sun” and finds her a joy to be around, however persona Minki doesn´t as much. Persona Minki is soft spoken and sweet and often finds “The sun” to be a little much.
— Frenemies v2 / Song Eunho / 24 / Much like Minki´s relationship with “The sun”, he feels different about Eunho depending on whether their on stage or off stage. Real Minki likes Eunho and finds him very fun to be around and the two get along great. He´s the member that Minki most often leans on and touches when not on stage. However when on stage, persona Minki finds Eunho to be a little much, and a little too 4D for his tastes.
— Brother from another mother / TBA / TBA / Minki and “The boisterous” are very alike. At least real Minki and him is. Minki finds “The boisterous” to be a lot of fun to be around, especially because he is the male that Minki is the closest to in age in Twilight. However “The boisterous” enjoys bossing persona Minki around and he often finds this quite annoying. However the two are a lot like brothers and they annoy each other just as much as brothers normally would. He is the person that Minki leans on and touches the most when they´re on stage.
— Sister from another mister / TBA / TBA / Persona Minki adores “The bashful” a lot. He finds her amazing and loves to be around her, however real Minki doesn´t agree as much. She´s a little too shy and soft-spoken for real Minki´s taste, however as the two are both main dancers they work together a lot, and therefore “The bashful” isn´t as quiet around Minki as she might be around some of the other members.
— Crush / Asuka Umeko / 19 / Twilight member / Minki loves Asuka. In fact he may have a minor crush on her. Nothing that is very noticeable, but it is there. She is the female member he is the closest to as he helped her with her dancing when she first joined the line-up of Twilight. He likes teasing her as she´s the only member of the group who´s younger than him, and will often poke her sides. Minki has immense respect for Asuka and how far she´s come in their training as Twilight.

Stage name Seraphinus - Means “fiery ones” and a Seraph is a type of celestial or heavenly being. The female version of the name (Seraphina) is used in the Bible for the heavenly winged angels surrounding the throne of God. Basically Minki is an angel, which fits very well with his persona of being soft and sweet. The company picked it and Minki himself likes the symbolism behind it, but doesn´t exactly agree with his persona and would therefore like to change his stagename to Minki if he ever gets rid of his persona. As a symbolic way of shedding the persona and instead using his real name because the fans get to see him as he is, instead of a persona.

Trainee years Because of his horrible habit of skipping vocal classes, Minki had a long training period and trained at a lot of different companies. He trained at SM Entertainment for 3 years, Cube Entertainment for 2 years, Pledis Entertainment for a year, NH Media for 2 years and then 4 years under Moon Entertainment with the Twilight members. This adds up to a training period of 12 years.

Trainee life Minki was scouted to SM Entertainment at the young age of seven. Because of his young age training at SM wasn´t hard as they were rather lenient on him. He discovered he had a talent for dancing and everything went fine until 2008. At 10, Minki began questioning why his parents had forced him to start training at such a young age, and he started skipping his vocal classes. This was not something SM took lightly and Minki was swiftly cut from the company. Minki´s parents were very sad about this and they pressured him into auditioning for another company and so Minki did. He auditioned for Cube. He hadn´t expected to make it in, but he did and thus he began training at Cube. They were tougher on him at Cube, mainly because he was now no longer a kid. However, his training at Cube only lasted two years as they quickly discovered that his habit of skipping vocal classes hadn´t stopped. So they cut him as well. Minki´s parents however hadn´t given up on making an idol out of Minki and they pressured him into auditioning again. So once again, on his parents request Minki auditioned for his third company, this time being Pledis entertainment. Therefore, he lives with it, until the day he can finally say, “Screw it,” shed his sweet persona, and be who he actually is.

Scandals 

— Late 2018 or early 2019? / Twilights Seraphinus should never have been allowed to debut / As Twilight rises in popularity so does the knowledge that people have of their past, and some k-netz dug up Minki´s problematic past. They decided that because of his poor attitude to training in the past (The skipping vocal classes as such) he shouldn´t have been allowed to debut, because they felt that it was immature of him. Not taking into account that he was still a kid and never actually dreamt of being an idol, but was pushed into it by his parents.
— Immediately after debut aka early 2018. / Twilights Seraphinus gay? / Because of his feminine looks, makeup-wearing, long hair and androgynous way of dressing rumors started up branding him as gay. It is false as he´s panual, but nobody apart from the Twilight members know about his uality.
— A bit into Twilight career so like… Mid 2019? / Twilights Seraphinus two-faced? / Because of the glimpses of his real personality that has at times slipped through on variety shows and how these glimpses stand in contrast to the image he has Minki has been accused of being two-faced and fake.

Comments Yes, I realize that Ren´s name is the same as my OC´s. I DON´T CARE. The name Minki is ADORABLE and therefore I am using it. That is all.  Also I´m very demanding I know. I want longhaired Ren and specifically Ren´s body from Good Bye Bye and… Yeah. Sorry. And I know his stagename is complicated AF and has A LOT of symbolism behind it, but like. I love symbolism. So. If you feel the name itself is too complicated, feel free to let me know and I´ll either just scrap it and use his real name or see if I can come up with something else that still has symbolism behind it. ALSO. Since we decided on Yugyeom for dance twin, I decided to go with Jongup for vocal and talking. Because he is so good, and such an underrated vocalist it is INSANE. Just listen to Try My Luck or them doing karaoke on Today´s Room. Yes, I love him. Also Minki is strongly inspired by idols such as Ren, Heechul, Jonghyun (I miss him so much), and Hyorin. Idols who aren´t afraid to express their opinions on things. Also I hope it´s okay that I made Minki crush on Asuka and made him the person who helped her with her dancing? I find her adorable and like... It felt right. So I hope you don´t mind.
