kpop and world cup?

i just want to say that this is my opinion, i don't mean to harm and/or offend anyone, please read to the end before commenting, heh.

am i the only one who isn't so excited that kpop won fifa's poll on twitter about the song they are going to play in the closing of the world cup? i don't know, i feel like, it's a world cup, a big football event in the world. i'm not saying that kpop songs are too underrated that they don't deserve to be played in the world cup, no. but it's about football and the game itself. the songs have nothing to do with football. for something that has been going for more than 80 years, that only happens once in 4 years, world cup is surely waited. and using a song that doesn't even relate to football in any way for the closing,,, i don't know, would anyone be interested? did those who voted also watch the matches from the very beginning that they knew what they did to vote?

am i the only one who feels this because i watch football?

promoting kpop worldwide isn't wrong. it's probably one of the things that most of kpop agencies would do, to promote their artists. but in this kind of event, is it the right thing to do? fifa put the songs in the options because they're requested. but really? in world cup? did they expect the sport experts, former coaches, commentators, professional former football players, football supporters all around the world to dance to a love song and/or a song that has nothing to do with football? ah, if the song was something like shakira's famous "waka waka eh eh" song or knaan's "waving flag", it would have been better. ah, i missed world cup 2010.

because of the poll, i heard that the voters literally did everything to win it, like making many twitter accounts only to vote. it ended up as if it was a war; "my fandom is the greatest, the world deserves to hear it." i don't know, man, i feel like it's too much. if the poll was run by mnet, billboard, melon, any other music awards, it would have been fine since it's about music itself. but world cup, it's about football. the closing song should be about football too, shouldn't it?

eep, i never thought that i would end up writing that long. i hope this rant doesn't hurt anyone since i only want to share my opinion. i watch world cup, i love football even though my favorite team was eliminated, so that's why this is getting my attention

I don’t really watch the World Cup after Denmark got eliminated and football isnt really my no 1 sports interest but i get what you’re saying. Honestly, when I saw the poll at first it felt like ... why?
Not because the song needs anything to do with football because - idk, to me it doesn’t but ... it felt more like adding fuel to fire in the kpop community as well. Had there only been one kpop song we could have united as a fandom yet instead it became some sort of war of “who’s best” and it was ... it feels to detrimental to the World Cup which, at least here, unites the entire country to root for the country. We’re all Danes during the World Cup, none more than others.
Choosing more kpop songs felt like splitting the kpop community. Oh well. I’m not going to watch the ending even though I absolutely love Power (and honestly, rather Power than any other kpop song) uwu

Remember that time SJ made “Victory Korea” for the World Cup? (I think it was the World Cup but I’m not sure. A sports event anyway) More of that, Korean Entertainment Agencies :3

As a fan of both kpop and soccer, I see your point. Soccer is already an aggressive sport because fans get really worked up and start their own wars, kind of (at least...from what I've seen. If soccer has been a 100% peaceful experience for you, then I envy you so much LOL). We didn't need to add even more aggression to the mix by having an EXO vs BTS war (which....ugh. that's a whole other comment in itself. But I will say, Power can be applied to sports....in a small sense...Fake Love...IDK how)

Anyway, I know my comment didn't make sense (it didn't make sense to me, that's for sure). But in simple terms, I agree with you.

Well in itself I truly didn't understand why some songs were even in the suggestion? Fake love? Despacito? At least power made some sense even if winning something wasn't the primary message of the song, I don't remember what was the last song, I think it was Avicii's. Anyway, in the end it's only one song and it's not like it's gonna be on replay the whole time. think it's more abt marketing? I mean I have seen so many tweets abt kpop stan watching the world cup just because of one song, don't know for ur country but the main channel in mine beat records in terms of ratings.
Anyway, I don't have any interest in football so tbh I don't care that much ^-^'
