in early 2012, she heard about the yg global auditions through some acquaintances that were into kpop. she first consulted with jooyoung about what he thinks and he encouraged her to go audition. with her parents permission, she applied and auditioned. she auditioned as a singer and sang her rendition of ailee's heaven to show her vocal range. then the panel asked if she can sing one of her originals since they've read in her application that she writes and composes songs. she chose to sing "neon rain" (link). seeing no reaction from the panel, she thought that she didn't make it until they announced that she was one of the four that was accepted to be yg trainees. in may 2012, she flew to seoul and lived in a dorm with other trainees. she signed a four year training contract with the entertainment. she wasn't put immediately into a group so she focused mostly on improving all her skills, especially dancing (where she's the weakest). it was then that she first experienced music equipment for producing songs. at first, she had no clue but thanks to individual training time, she was able to learn and get the hang of it. in october 2012, she performed her first self-produced song "my music" (link) and this earned her a praise from yg himself. later she was able to film a video singing her song for yg ent's youtube account. after that, she was quickly labeled as a music prodigy and she was given an opportunity to be mentored by teddy and tablo. in 2013, to improve her skills more, yg gave yeyeon permission to start producing for yg artists along with the other producers. it was also in that year that she joined 8 other girls and they were known as pink punk. she trained and bonded with them until the group had only 5 members left, including her. they were set to debut in the near future. yeyeon also co-produced and written some songs for the group which are: forever young, really and see u later.
in early 2016, the issue about minzy departing from 2ne1 became a hot issue and to counter the negative attention, yg rushed blackpink's (formerly pink punk) debut, but sadly during that time, yeyeon had a severe ankle injury from an accident during dance training and was unfortunately pulled out from the group (typical yg move hahahaha). with that, they decided to not use the songs they recorded before and use new songs which yeyeon didn't participate in producing. it was a bitter experience for her and luckily for her, it was the last year of her training contract at yg. after a number of discussions with the company, they sadly let her go but had an agreement that she will still have copyrights to the songs she particpated in making and will still be paid for them. after leaving yg entertainment, she lived with her cousin jooyoung, who was enlisted in the army that time. she focused on making songs for herself as her injury heals. she decided to be an independent artist with the money that she's receiving from the songs she co-produced back at yg. she also joined dance classes at 1million to stay in shape and worked as a freelance producer for underground artists. she had help from jooyoung (during his 4 day off from military) with finding directors and stuff. and in march 12, 2017, her birthday , she released her first digital single and music video as a solo artist with a self-produced song "show" (link). it gained attention from yg stans and netizens and she gained a fanbase. the same year in june, she released another digital single "oasis" (link). it was labeled a summer bop but since she cameback the same time as blackpink, her comeback got overpowered by theirs.
later on it was revealed that she joined the show the unit. on the booting evaluations, she perfermed her version of boombayah (link) with an original choreography (she got helped from 1million dancers) and got a superboot. and in the first mission, she was reunited with euna kim, both of them used to train together as pink punk back at yg and they were in the same group for the mission which they placed 2nd. week 1 of the first voting period, she placed 7th. she was glad that she made it in the top 9 ranks but at the same time she was anxious to keep stay in the top 9. since then, she kept on overthinking about it. on week 2, she went down into 8th place as well as the final week of the first voting period. she became really anxious about it and had a mini anxiety attack. on their self-produced mission, she took initiative to rearrange and took charge of leading the team. but because of some issues, they had to change their song so they chose big bang's last dance, and since yeyeon co-produced it, it was easier for her to rearrange and get the picture she imagined. but unknowingly to the others and the audience, she was overthinking and overstressing about it. she kept thinking how the public would react to her performing a big bang song. after the performance, she was praised for her performance especially when she hit the high note (matilda haena's parts) she placed 2nd in their group but they lost to the other female vocal group. it was okay for her though since she thought the audience didn't mind her singing a yg song until the second voting period ended and she dropped ranks to 13 and then 20. though she's still part of the show, this took a toll on her and her anxiety attacks worsened which made her leave the show. the unit explained that she left because of health issues.
when yeyeon's boombayah performance went viral, a big hit manager came across it. he was supposed to wait until the unit ended but he found out yeyeon left the show. he immediately searched a way to contact her and when he did, he asked if she is interested becoming part of big hit entertainment. yeyeon knew that big hit is rapidly rising as one of the top entertainments in the industry, but she deliberated whether she would take the chance to debut under a known entertainment especially since she's not in the best condition mentally. but she knew big hit is the type to take care of their artists and trainees not only physically, but mentally as well so, as if like a gamble, she had a meeting with the manager and talked about the conditions and terms and then she signed a contract, making her a big hit trainee. she became active again after the unit ended when she co-produced some of jooyoung's comeback tracks. he also revealed their relationship as cousins. then she made her debut as a producer under big hit when she co-produced some of bts which made everyone jungshook. later that year, she received an email from teddy asking permission if it was okay for blackpink to promote forever young, really and see u later and that he might make a few changes to the song to make it fit the current trendy sound. she would still be credited as a producer and will be paid for it so she had no excuse to refuse to his request. when the square up album was released, blinks, yg stans and yeyeon's fans were jungshook again to see yeyeon's producer name and came up with theories and conclusions. she then was contacted by unb's handler to be a special performer for unb's comeback which she agreed after talking to the agency. and later on she was put into the co-ed group and debuted as vrsa in 2019.

( trainee life ) : her trainee life at yg was literally like survival of the fittest. the competition between trainees was really intense. yeyeon thought she was good, but a lot were better. she had to strive to be atleast the same level as them especially with her lack of dancing skills. she had to learn something that can be her asset and since she knows how to write and compose music. she then started learning how to use music equipment and after a number of scoldings and critisisms every monthly evaluation, she was able to complete a song and perform it in front of their president. and after waiting for so long to recieve a compliment from him, she was able to get it and was even given the opportunity to learn under teddy and tablo. she started co-producing songs for yg artists and was grouped with 8 other girls, later named as pink punk. though at first they thought that they'll debut together, the later found out that they are all still competing with one another to be part of the final lineup. yeyeon's vocal and dance skills were improving day by day, and her producing skills were becoming more polished as she mentors under teddy and tablo. the experience and lessons with all the producers she worked with also helped. in the end, only five members were left of pink punk, including her. she also has co-written, produced and recorded songs for their debut. but when minzy left 2ne1, a lot of negative comments surfaced and all that, which made yg rush the debut of blackpink but unfortunately that time, yeyeon suffered a severe ankle injury from dance training and won't be able to debut with the other girls. yg deliberated of adding her later on, but then there would be comments of copying red velvet so he decided not to. yeyeon felt it was unfair for her especially since she has already participated in making the songs for their debut. so yg decided to not use those songs and yeyeon came to the conclusion of leaving the entertainment after a long talk with the agency.
she became independent since then and released two singles before joining the unit but then because of her severe anxiety attacks, she left the show. on the bright side, she was scouted by a big hit manager, explaining to her that he discovered her because of her boombayah performance and watched and listened to her two singles. she joined the agency after discussing the conditions and terms. she continued training alongside the other trainees, but she was also made a big hit producer immediately. she was put under the mentorship of pdogg and worked on two songs for bts' comeback in may. she then worked together with unb as a special performer in their black heart comeback. then she was put together in a group with two other girls and three boys and would be set to debut as a co-ed group in 2019.

"well for starters, when i found out i was picked to be like maybe one of the last members of group, i had mixed feelings, surprise, happiness, unsureness and stuff. coz well i formerly debuted as a soloist and my supposed to be group debut didn't turn out as planned, so maybe i have a bit of a trauma??? then they lay it out that it was a co-ed group and like woah. different thoughts went through my mind, are we gonna be able to do this? are we going to succeed? will we be accepted? but then them, we gonna rock."

"i'm in charge of being the main vocal and the dene-tator during the song recordings. i mostly be sitting next to potter oppa and the sound engineer during those times, scolding and shouting at them members making them do their part again and again until they reach my expectations *innocent smiles*oh and i also do some encouragements and giving advises to the members. in the dorms, i eat the left overs so there's no food going into waste. *blinks* what? not an enough answer?? uhmm oh yeah, i do the laundry for both the male and female members. i'm used to seeing men's underwear and boxers from living with my cousin"

( what were you thinking when bang pd-nim announced that bts would be the one observing your trainee life and would be the ones choosing for the group? ) :
"well i wouldn't say i wasn't the least bit scared and nervous coz i was. really was. i had the thought that with the experience that i have, they'd expect more from me and it was scary. i was scared to not meet their expectations so the burden was really heavy. but then, they were really friendly and are kind sunbaes. they noticed and told me to just relax and just enjoy what i do. i can see why they are well loved, they're an inspiration to many."

( personality ) : chan is a huge ball of sunshine. he's always smiling and laughing and it is contagious. he's the definition of a beagle. he's always active, moving and is pretty unpredictable and weird. people don't usually think that he's smart as he is because of his personality. he likes to tell jokes and goof around. he's friendly and doesn't have a hard time to befriend others, and people don't take long to come to like him. he's also hardworking and doesn't like worrying others, so he tends to keep his burdens to himself. he has a kind heart and doesn't think twice before helping someone. he also has good leadership skills and knows when to step up. he has good talking skills so he's most likely to be the first one to speak up about an issue or something. when he's angry, he gets quiet and it is pretty evident on his face. but he doesn't let it affect his work. he tends to overwork himself without holding himself back and is pretty stubborn about it. he takes pride in everything he does and is pretty hard on himself when he isn't satisfied with the results. he has a habit of putting others first before himself too so whenever there needs to be a decision whether he protects his image or something or yeyeon's. he would choose to protect yeyeon without any second thoughts. he's the type that also takes care of people behind the scenes despite having a loud personality.
( first meeting ) : they first met in 2016, when yeyeon just left yg. she joined 1million dance classes and attended a class where chan and his other group members were present. she was having a hard time getting the steps right so she reached out to the nearest person to her which was chan and asked him how the steps went. chan being the kind and considerate person he is, started teaching her one on one, in the end yeyeon paid more attention to chan than the instructor. at the end of the class, she approached him and thanked him for helping her.
( development ) : after their first meeting, they would greet and talk to each other whenever they attend the same dance class in 1million and would stand beside each other. when they found out they were the same age, things between them got more casual and more friendly. chan then said that his group would be debuting the next year, and yeyeon too broke out to him that she will be releasing music content the next year as well. he also told her about the busking performances that they're organizing and invited her to watch them. since the time he said that, she has never missed a busking performance by his group and afterwards, she would join them to dinner. sometimes, chan would see her home.
2017, yeyeon debuted first and chan was the first one that messaged her how he liked her song a lot. the day before chan's group's debut and album release, chan and her met by han river and he let her listen to their debut song and music video. she honestly told him her thoughts without surgarcoating anything and chan appreciated it. they spent that night with beers and deep conversations. on her 1st comeback, she also had chan be the first person to listen to her song. chan is like the jooyoung in 2017 since her cousin was still in military service. she found comfort when she's with him and assurance that what she's doing is right and there's nothing wrong with pursuing her dream. she also told chan about her yg days and how it affected her to be stronger and independent. later that year, yeyeon was the first one to tell chan about her joining the unit. and to her surprise, him and another member of his group, jun, will also be joining while the other three will be joining mixnine. he asked her why the unit and not mixnine, she told him she didn't want the pity of anyone.
during the unit, male and female idols weren't allowed to interact with one another. but whenever chan and yeyeon see each other in the hallways, they would wave at each other, put their tongue out or poke each other's waist. they also interacted a lot off screen and would tease or compliment each other when their performance ends. especially when yeyeon decided to perform snsd's gee. chan kept teasing and laughing at her after the recordings which led to her chasing chan around the studio and building. when yeyeon started having anxiety attacks, chan couldn't do anything since they had rules inside the building. but whenever they leave the building for their personal schedules, he would immediately call her and ask her condition. when chan heard her anxiety attacks got worse, he immediately rushed to her despite the rules, the staff allowed it knowing that they're close friends. euna kim and chan were both beside her when she was hyperventilating. he kept encouraging her that she'll be able to overcome it but she was too deep into her hole that the staff suggested that she should take care of herself first since her health is more important. she left the show, not after apologizing to chan.
to make up for everything, she attended the finale secretly. when chan was announced as the last member to join the final lineup, she cried by herself. chan mentioned in his speech that he would like show a more stronger side of himself for a friend, which she knows he's pertaining to her. she was allowed access backstage, she hugged the other female idols first especially euna before looking for chan. she found him hugging jun then he saw her and immediately went towards her. she smiled and opened her arms wide and hugged him, congratulating him. she saw him tearing up so she pinched both sides of his cheeks, scolding him not to cry while tearing up herself. they caught up with each other, yeyeon telling him she got scouted by big hit after she left and her agreeing.
since then, yeyeon is always updated with unb's activities and then she got an email from unb's management, asking if she's willing to be a special guest performer in their comeback. she knew that it'll be an advertising strategy of theirs since she recently made headlines after bts released their love yourself tear album and blackpink's square up album. after talking to her managemenet and considering her decision, they agreed. during the preparation, chan introduced her to the other members and grew close with jun, who's the closest to chan, being same 97 liners. jun is that friend of theirs that would tease chan and yeyeon when they're alone which makes yeyeon stare at him with an unamused face and chan laughing. during the photoshoots and practices, there are episodes of the two of them causing chaos on set and their loud laughs would be heard.
their friendship contonies to grow strong, neither of them realizing that their friendship will soon turn to romance in the future.
( interactions ) : these two are like two peas in a pod. they think alike, talk alike, act alike and joke alike. they sometimes even can finish each other's sentences. having known each other for more than two years, they are really comfortable around each other. they both don't mind doing skinship like sudden hugs or resting their head on the other's shoulder or lap or the casual hanging of the arm over the shoulder (though yeyeon can't reach chan's). they talk to each other everyday, and one might ask how can they possiblely not run out of topics to talk about, well who knows. they're in that point of closeness where they can tell what the other is thinking by just an eye contact. other than the usual behavior of best friends, digging deeper, chan is very protective of her and worries alot knowing yeyeon's past experiences. he is extra careful and treats her like a gem, though she doesn't know it. he's a gentleman around her, like holding her bag, opening the door for her and even cleaning up after her after eating ramyeon at 7 eleven. yeyeon also silently takes care of him by reminding him that it's time to eat and he shouldn't buy fast food or the like, or maybe fixing his clothes and his hair for him. they also pretty much know each other's phone passwords/codes. they like to share music with each other too and even funny videos and memes. they trust each other alot and confesses their troubles and problems with one another. both would always do their best to help the other through it. they're also comfortable sharing food like drinking from one straw or feeding the other. many mistake them as a couple but then that expectation gets ruined when either chan or yeyeon would headlock the other or maybe kick the other's or something.
