My Grievances with Hunus Part 2: An Annoying Start for Xeno-T

Just another something that I needed to get off my chest.

Yes, I’m back. And I’m pissed. I really don’t know what to say at this point. I just cannot understand for the life of me how a company can be so incompetent and so terrible as Hunus Entertainment. So, I’m sure by now, most people who follow the group formerly known as Topp Dogg, know that they have “redebuted”. Aka, after 5 years their group having more downfalls than successes, and having probably no new trainees to form a new boygroup, Hunus most likely decided that they wanted to begin anew. So with the remaining 5 out of 13 members (yes 5, we’ll get to that in a bit), they renamed the group Xeno-T. “Xeno” is supposed to come from xenogenic (currently not sure the reasoning behind this), and the “T” is for the fandom name, Topp Klass. Why they changed the group name, but not the matching fandom name is beyond me, but I suppose it doesn’t matter. Additionally, B-Joo changed the spelling of his stage name to B-Jyoo, which seems so pointless that I don’t see what the actual point is, but whatever. Yano now goes by his real name Sangwon. Sangdo, Hoojoon, and Xero are the remaining members whose names remain the same.

Anyway, after the events of the last blog almost a year ago, P-Goon, Nakta, A-Tom, and Hansol have left the group. P-Goon, like Gohn before him, left to enlist in the military and Nakta terminated his contract to work as a soloist. He now goes by the stage name “Kinda”, and to my surprise and delight, he has actually relased new music since leaving. He relased a full album in March titled Anointed. Hansol also left with plans to join the military. He’s been doing a lot of solo work and now goes by the name Minsung. He’d been doing fine for a while, but just recently gave fans another scare, appearing in a live Instagram video once again speaking about suicide with cuts on his wrists. Thankfully fans reached out to him with positive messages, but I’m still so worried about him.

Then there’s A-Tom. Well, after leaving JBJ…A-Tom was reported to have also been leaving Topp Dogg. Yes, after leaving fans in the dark for so long, Hunus finally let us know what was going on with A-Tom, and that announcement was his departure. Words cannot express how pissed I was about this whole thing. Though I didn’t follow JBJ, I know they were doing pretty darn well as a group. Far better than Topp Dogg ever did. And that fact that the group ended up disbanding only for the members to basically be left jobless makes the entire thing seem so pointless. If none of these guys were going to re-join their original groups, they may as well have just stayed as JBJ in all honesty. And in A-Tom’s case, it seems obvious that he realized how much better he’s had it as an idol with JBJ in less than a year as opposed to the 4 years with Topp Dogg. I imagine he realized that things would not change and he just decided to leave, which, if true, would be completely understandable.

Similarly, Hunus seemed to have realized that Topp Dogg was going nowhere and decided to re-debut them. At first I had a few issues with this, but I think I understand why they did this now.

The biggest question was, Why now? Topp Dogg had been doing poorly for nearly 5 years. Why after all of this time did they finally make this choice to re-debut the group with a new name in 2018? They could have done this years ago, and the fact that it seems so randomly done now just makes it weirder. I suppose the basic, obvious answer is that Topp Dogg…really wasn’t Topp Dogg anymore. I mean, they only had 5 members left. 5 out of an original 13 (16 if we include those guys who were in Under Dogg). This truly is a different group than the one who debuted in 2013, and as such it makes sense to start anew.

But here’s the big problem. So far…nothing has changed. Seriously, after all of this, Hunus hasn’t done anything differently as of yet. The company is still virtually silent regarding the boys activities. I only recently found out that Xeno-T has not 1, but 3 Twitters that get information posted on them. But it usually seems to be just pictures of the members. Not only that, but it seems that these are the only places where information is posted for international fans. Just a few days ago, Xeno-T released a new song, a Japanese single since it seems Hunus, after flopping with trying to promote the boys in America, now wants to try Japan. Why they would do that when Xeno-T barely has a Korean fanbase is beyond me, but I guess anything that will get them attention is good. But that’s not the problem; the problem is that the teaser for this Japanese single seems to have only been posted on those Twitters (and their fancafe of course), but nowhere else. The biggest issue with that is that not everyone uses Twitter. I sure don’t. And even for people who do use Twitter, they may not use it to look for K-Pop related stuff. So basically this new content for Xeno-T was released with very little warning and very little promotion, meaning it’s highly likely that fans may not even know about it. The highly slower than usual view growth makes me think that’s highly likely.

But to make matters even worse, the video wasn’t even uploaded to Hunus’s own Youtube channel. It was put on some random separate channel that many fans may not even know about. I mean, why would they expect that Hunus would upload a new MV on some other random channel with no prior warning. It makes no sense. That would be like if, out of nowhere, SM had another random channel (with no known association with the company) upload an MV for Red Velvet with no prior notice that that would be where the video was to be. It almost as if they didn’t want fans to be able to find and watch the video.

And that’s why I’m so pissed off at Hunus. They went through all of this trouble to rebrand and re-debut the group, complete with a new name, and new member names, but they themselves haven’t changed a bit. They still at promoting their group. It would not have been difficult at all to put Xeno-T’s Japanese single on their own channel (or at the very least, link an announcement to the other channel). It would not have been hard to put up a teaser on their own channel aside from just freaking Twitter. They could have easily done more for this, but they didn’t. And if this is how they act with this brand new Japanese debut, who knows what it’ll be when they finally have that Korean comeback. Their first one as Xeno-T. All I can say is, I hope for the best, but anticipate the worst.

I can only pray for good things for Xeno-T, but right now I can't say my mind is in a good place concerning the group.
