at first glance, you'd only see shin yewon as this extremely handsome and tall individual who always has a straight face on. there's not much too him, just that he likes to read, and that he's always towering over everyone he meets. he doesn't show his expressions on his face, so many people find it hard to approach him and actually get to know him. his classmates know one or two things about him--he's really smart, but he rarely ever speaks to anyone that isn't his sister or close friends. It's not that he doesn't have anything to say--his mind is usually running wild with how many thoughts he has going on--he just doesn't think that most people should be bothered with hearing whatever he's thinking about.
it's undeniably hard to get close to yewon. he's stoic most of the time, and seems to have a wall around his heart. he doesn't trust easily, and it shows with how short his responses are when strangers try and talk to him. yet there's more under that mask of indifference. when it comes to shin yewon, there's more than meets the eye. once he cares, he cares way too much. he's the type of man to dedicate his life to his loved ones without asking for anything in return. he has strong beliefs that he doesn't voice to most, but he follows them without others knowing.
he's deeply dedicated to his studies, and anything he sets his mind to. he's the type of person who can read a book once or twice and memorize it's contents entirely. he's very smart, and uses this intelligence of his to his advantage during the most crucial moments. he isn't the strongest fighter, so he uses his brain to the best of his abilities as much as possible. he's the type of person who looks before he leaps--always thinking before doing. if you need a battle strategy, he's the person to go to. he can think of one hundred and one strategies that won't work, and he'll explain to you why, then he'll tell you the one strategy that will.
shin yewon fights with his mind and his intelligence, and he uses that intelligence of his to protect those he loves. he hates being not good at something, which is why he'll spend all his time posible to be better at things he can't do. he believes that if he's not perfect, then there's no point to his existence. he tends to have quite self-deprecating thoughts, and doesn't always believe in his own abilities. the only thing of his that he trusts is his brain. though he still can't really express himself around those he does like spending time with unless asked to, he tries his best to show that he appreciates the things they do for him by helping them with everything he can. for example, he tutors his sister and he spends time with hyungwon when he's lonely. even though yewon is bad with expressing his own emotions, he can easily read those of other people. he has a good eye, and since he doesn't talk a lot, he's great at people watching. to him, each gesture and every word spoken expresses some sort of emotion, and he's quick to pick up on it.
BACKGROUND:
Shin yewon was born fifteen minutes before shin yejin in a small village in china. his mother and father were both part of a wolf pack in china, where they had moved to a few years before their children were born. yewon was a thin and almost frail baby, and his sister jokes that she must've the nutrients out of him. he doesn't disagree, especially not since she was such a lively infant. while his sister would crawl ( and eventually run) around, yewon would stay in his playpen, fiddling with his toys. he usually only followed his sister around to instinctively watch after her. even as a baby, yewon knew he was the older twin, and needed to watch the younger and more rambunctious shin twin.
as he grew older, his skinny limbs always got him in some sort of trouble with his parents. he'd be scolded for not eating more even when he ate until he thought he was going to burst. he was yelled at for not running about like his sister (who was yelled at for running around in the first place). he was reprimanded for reading too many books and not going out often enough. but yewon's heart was with his books, and not with the grassy green fields that his sister seemed to adore so much. it seemed that no matter what he or yejin did, his parents would never be happy. yewon was too studious, yejin was too active. the twins were like two opposite sides of a coin, and maybe that's why they got along so well.
but it wasn't just his parents that seemed ashamed of him. yewon knew he would one day have to shift and be a werewolf like the rest of his pack, but until then he just wanted to do what he loved--read, and retain the knowledge he read about. yet each time he pulled a new book out, a pack member had to be there to insult him for not running around like the rest of the young children of the pack. and each time that happened, yejin was by his side in a heart beat, yelling at them to leave her brother alone. maybe yewon was the reason why she was constantly getting into fights, and because of that he couldn't help but feel guilty.
his thin legs could barely propel him forward, he was nearly half the speed of his sister, and everytime he tried to practice sparring with her, he'd end up on his backside within a minute. she'd reassure him each time that she was just born athletic, just as he was born smart, but he didn't care. at 12, yewon realized he had to do something about those thin arms of his if he wanted to stop being protected by his younger twin. so he set the books aside for late nights under his lamp, and he spent the days training with yejin and other pack members near his age.
training became a daily routine, and his twig-like arms became more muscled, as did his legs. he realized that even if he--a pre-teen who was born frail and weak--tried hard enough, he could achieve whatever he wanted. he ran every single morning, practiced sparring with yejin every afternoon, and trained with other pack members every night. he soon became one of the fastest runners in the pack, though his muscles seemed more for show than anything since he still couldn't properly throw a punch.
on their fourteenth birthday, yejin brought him to the woods and held out a knife to him.
"maybe your talents lie elsewhere, won. like how i use my fists and you use your brain, you might need something that requires more...thinking?"
she seemed confused when saying it, but he took it nonetheless and thanked her. he knew his sister had countless amounts of knives hidden away in their room, and he knew the one she had given him was one of her favorites. it was easy to wield, a long handle and a long blade so even if he swung mindlessly it'd be easier to hit his target. and though yejin had originally only handed it to him in hopes that it'd be better than suffering through his bad swings, she was pleasantly surprised by her brother's knife abilities. yewon wasn't perfect with his knife, but he was certainly better at it than with his bare hands. so she promised if he ever needed one, she'd always keep one handy for him.
a few months after the twins turned 14, yejin shifted. it was months earlier than everyone expected, especially since most wolves don't shift until they were 15 or 16. for months, yewon had to suffer through his parents murmuring about why the older twin hadn't shifted yet when the younger one already did. for months, yewon went to sleep praying for the inner wolf inside of him to come forth and prove his parents wrong--that his hard work would come to fruit and that he wouldn't be a useless wolf to the pack.
he finally shifted a month after he turned 15, but he still felt like the failure of the family. it took a month for yejin to convince him that she was abnormal, just weirdly in tune with her wolf side, for him to finally accept his "late" shifting. at 16, their parents sent them to st. moon flower where a pack member of theirs was a head guardian. the two twins reluctantly left home, but not without clinging to each other's sides.

LIFE STYLE. yewon wakes up from his 2-3 hour sleep and watches the sun rise with a book in his hands. sometimes, he'll join his sister on a morning jog. he heads to every single one of his classes, then eats lunch with his sister before going back to class. he practices his knife skills with a dummy before he eats dinner with yejin (which may sometimes involve hyungwon and seokwoo) and then reteaches her each lesson she missed due to 'oversleeping'. after two or three hours, he brings her back to her dorm once he can tell she's getting sleepy. once he's back in his room, he reads for as long as possible until he falls asleep with a book in his arms. his day then repeats.
