iF YOU GAVE A DOG thumbs and THE ABILITY TO SPEAK, YOU'D GET SHIN YEJIN. she can run for miles without stopping and she wouldn't break a sweat (mostly thanks to the wolf in her), but she can barely remember what 9x8 is. if you want a werewolf stereotype personified, then it's yejin. though she might not look like it, she's the strongest wolf she knows, and she's proud of it. she's physically stronger than most, faster than most, can take more damage than most, but she can't for the life of her learn how to deal with her own emotions. she's known for being extremely impulsive, and always acting on her anger. it's common to see her get into fights, especially when a loved one of hers comes up in a not-so-friendly discussion. the slightest insult will poke and prod at her temper until she's growling and she's physically lashing out. once she sets her mind on something, that isn't changing. she acts without thinking all of the time, and the only person who is able to stop her is her twin brother. if you have a set of rules for her that she disagrees with, don't expect her to conform unless given an extremely good reason.

But she's not inherently bad. she just has a very strong moral compass. she only acts up because she has strong beliefs, and because she stands up for what she believes in. she's very opinionated, and is not afraid to voice that. if she doesn't like what someone's doing, or what they're saying, she speaks up immediately. like mentioned before, she doesn't like to think before she speaks. she isn't afraid of a stranger's opinion of her, and really only cares what her friends and loved ones think of her. once you're her friend, you're her friend forever. just because she's--as others would say--"stupid", doesn't mean she's easily trusting. she's not naive in any way, and can easily sniff out if someone is ingeuine and wants to befriend her for the wrong reasons. though many people say she would probably die without her brother, she believes differently. yes, he stops her from doing dumb things, but just because she's unintelligent in the studying department doesn't make her any less socially inept.

BACKGROUND:

Shin yejin was born fifteen minutes after shin yewon in a small village in china. her mother and father were both part of a wolf pack in china, where they had moved to a few years before their children were born. yejin was cute, beautiful, and rarely cried. her pack members said she'd make a wonderful little 'princess'. when she grew old enough to waddle around on her own, her parents were the most surprised when they found her playing in the dirt while her brother sat and watched her. they were very traditional people--they wanted their son to be tough and active while their daughter sat back and let her brother protect her. they did all they could to get her into dressing up dolls, or coloring, or even just some building blocks. she buried the dolls in the dirt, accidentally tore the coloring books up from the force of her coloring, and she built structures just to push them down with delighted giggles.

she was always a slow learner. reading for long periods of time gave her headaches, and staring at numbers for too long would make her squint and lose track of what she was doing. her entire life, she relied heavily on yewon to help her pass her classes. her parents were always angry and frustrated when they saw her playing sports with her classmates or running around instead of studying. it took years to convince them that yejin wasn't a visual or auditory learner, she was a kinesthetic learner. she did best in science classes where she could physically do an experiment, and then write a report about it later. yewon, who understood that the school system wasn't built for her, would find ways to help her learn the material of each lesson. they shared similar classes, and he was typically ahead of her in the material anyway so it wasn't hard for him to create his own lessons for her at home. for science, he'd take her outside and point to things and have her pick them apart to learn their functions, such as plants and photosynthesis. for math, he'd write a word problem for her so she'd be able to put the numbers to a real life situation. for history, they'd write flashcards together and draw pictures when she really couldn't remember something.

Over time, yejin stopped listening to her parents entirely. the only time she did listen to them was when they started talking about pack matters that would involve their children. the twins knew of their werewolf descent, and they knew one day they'd shift just as their family and 'family friends' have. a few months after the twins turned 14, yejin started complaining about how her body didn't feel like her own. even as she sparred with her brother and members with her pack, she was clearly doing worse than she normally would. once, she even lost to yewon who, at the time, could barely throw a proper punch.

yejin blames her shift on yewon. it was kind of his fault after all, though he wasn't even there when it happened. she hated sparring with jing the most. he was the pack member who knew just how to push her buttons, and he hated how physically strong she was despite looking like a stick. so he took advantage of her off-week, and challenged her to a sparring match. of course, he won, and she ended up on the ground with furrowed brows and a scowl. her temper was horrible when she was 14, and just the thought of losing to jing made her see red. still, she made an attempt to get up and just walk away with the loss honorably. yet, what he said next pushed her over the edge.

"you and your brother think you're both so great. you both are just shrimps who haven't even shifted yet, and that stupid brother of yours is the weakest in the entire pack. it's no wonder that your parents are so ashamed of him."

she could feel the temperature around her rising. her vision was blurring, and she could hear loud screeching. it took her a while for her to understand that the screaming was her own. she wanted to release her fury in any way possible, wanted to get rid of this lava-like heat. before she knew it, she lost consciousness. the last thing she saw was sharp claws inches away from jing's shell-shocked face.

she woke up to yewon holding her, who held her head tight to his chest. he murmured something about how surprised and angry their parents were going to be about her early shifting, but she could barely hear it over her own heavy breathing. jing's wolf form sat a few feet away, staring at her cautiously. she took in a shaky breath, and let her brother wrap his jacket before he carried her away from the training grounds. she apologized to jing a few days later, only because yewon had told her to.

even the densest of people could look at the shin twins and know how important they are to each other. yewon is the only person yejin listens to, and she'd do anything for him just as he would do anything for her. he's the one person who's been there for her her entire life without yelling at her to change who she is. they complement each other, since he's all brains and she's all brawn. most of the time, they're stuck to each other's side like glue. when they're not, they run to each other's side as soon as they can. they're twins. even without mind-reading abilities, they can almost sense when something's wrong with the other. she's said it thousands of times before, "no one will ever know me as well as yewon does."

to be quite honest, she isn't sure what jing is. she never told anyone, but she always thought he was really good looking and secretly had a crush on him when she was 6. he used to take care of her and yewon since he was older than the both of them by two years. then he started bullying her, and she started seeing him as this annoying guy who was born to ruin her life. but ever since she shifted, he's been acting really nice to her. he texts and calls her a lot, and he always goes out of his way to visit her when she goes back home. his friends tell her that he just always liked and admired her and didn't know how to tell her. she thinks he's stupid if that's really the case. she kinda likes talking to him. he gives relatively good advice, and she can tell he now cares deeply for her.

her best friend. her first friend after she arrived to the school. she got into a fight in the first week she was here, and seokwoo was the one who pulled her away from the boy who provoked her. he also dragged her to the infirmary and made her sit there as the nurse put bandages over her cuts and gave her ice for her bruises. somehow, from that, their friendship started. he's usually the one who has to hold her back from fights, and she likes to say that he's the reason why he isn't expelled yet. she blames her lack of female friends on him, but he blames it on the fact that she punched a guy in the face on the fouth day of the academic year. though he complains about her lack of femininity a lot, she helps him a lot by sparring and training with him, which has made him stronger over his years at the academy.

he's known her and her brother since they were in their diapers, since they grew up in the same pack. he's most of the reason why her and yewon are both at the school, since their parents trusted yuxi's judgement and sent them there. she likes to make fun of him a lot, but the truth is he's the only other person she listens to besides yewon. most of the time, at least. it's mostly because he's the alpha, but also because he's always been an older figure she's looked up to even when he shifted much later than everyone else. yuxi praises her when she deserves it, and scolds her when needed. he's kinda like the father figure she always wanted, but never received from her actual father.

"hey aaron-ge, since yuxi and i grew up together can you just give me an a in your class?"

aaron was the first moroi she met, and the only one she fully respects. even though he's under yuxi's protection, she never really wanted to talk to him until the day he spoke to her in chinese and she responded excitedly. she has admitted to aaron many times that she misses home, and so she sticks close to anything that reminds her of it (which is typically yuxi, her brother, and jing's frequent phone calls and texts). his and yuxi's classes are the only classes she goes to every day, and she goes to him to ask about things related to moroi and strigoi. he always tells her to go to hyosung since she teaches moroi history, but she never listens to him. she insists he's the only one she trusts teaching her these sorts of things.

LIFE STYLE. yejin automatically wakes up before the sun rises to go for a morning jog. sometimes she'll shift, sometimes she won't. it mostly depends on her mood, but no matter what you can find her bounding past the trees with a refreshed expression. she'll stop to watch the sunrise, then head back to her dorm and take a nap. this nap usually goes way past class time, but during the rare instances she does go to class, she is typically seen looking out the window. during lunch time, she finds her brother and they eat together. he persuades her to go to the rest of her classes, not just the ones she likes, and she listens. she gets through the rest of the day, then either goes to the woods or back to her room to train by herself. she eats dinner with yewon, and she lets him reteach her each lesson until she falls asleep and he carries her back to her room. her day then repeats.
