THE MUSIC VIDEO —
) Closes up on a tiny game spinner with three parts. It spins from the word "M", and suddenly stops at the word, "A". There's a "?" at the third side. Instead of focusing on "A", it focuses on "?".
) It changes to Dal's eyes, the left half of his face was covered with a white curtain. He had blue contact lenses, and took it off. He looks through, and suddenly averted his gaze to the left. Music plays.
) Dal starts singing in the middle of the table, in an empty room. He wore white long sleeved shirt (with spots of red), long white pants, and is barefeeted. There were minor scratches on his feet, hands, and arms.
) He sat down in a single chair, the sole object. Curtains had been ripped, blowing gently. All parts of the room were covered with white sheet. As it closes up on him, he was chained to the chair with cuffs. His feet were bound to the legs of the chair, and his eyes were hidden with a black fabric. The floor had large blocks of "CURIOUS" there, written in red. He hesitated for a while, trying to avoid stepping on it, but gets jolted all of a sudden, and becomes limp.
) Focuses back on the needle reverse-turning to "M". Dal's clothing still looked the same, but he had a black jacket covering him. His eyes didn't have the blue color. He was walking down a night market, a setting that had a remarkable Chinese culture. He was walking, and stared at his left palm, which was carrying two rings. They were both tied with a pink ribbon, one that was now cut with a sharp object. On his right hand, he held a mauve ribbon, and hid it back on his jacket. He looked much more heartbroken.
) As the song has reached the second verse, he walked again, this time finding the spinner next to a black munchkin cat with blue eyes. It was raining. Viewers saw that now it has nine needles, eight which stayed in a place, but one kept on spinning fast. He almost touched it, but was hesitant. He tried to chase the cat again, face scared, but the cat stopped, and turn back. The eight needles break into pieces, and the spinning needle stopped at "?"
) Focus changes. He went on a long corridor, all covered with white sheets and curtain at its windows. As the songs goes into the chorus, he runs, hallway full of nothing but sheets. It focuses on his eyes, which now had blue contacts. His black jacket has mysteriously disappeared.
) However, if he had turned around, sideways, he'd have noticed the curtains went red at the back of him.
) He reached a room, seemingly prepared. He opens the door, to find nothing but the spinner again, rotating next to a mirror. When he saw himself in the mirror, he saw the black cat. The song abruptly stops. Cuts to the black jacket left in the rain with the broken needles.
) The scene opens back again, silent, as he stood in the middle of the empty room, stepped on the "CURIOUS". The spinner board and the needle was broken. He looked peaceful, and held nine new needles at his right hand, walking towards the screen. He covered his hand, and the video ends.
SYMBOLISM —
— The "A" represents Aether, to "M" as Mundus. "?" meant an unknown at Noctiverse, and is suspected to be The Veil, as Dal did ended up going to a weird-looking room. He'd been getting from Mundus to Aether, but get to the underworld instead, many suspected, mostly due to malfunction.
(Which brings in the question: How did he even get there when its not supposed to be?)
— There, Dal lets go of his blue contacts, blue eyes meant holding deep knowledge. The fact that he lets go of contacts meant he lets go of knowledge that hasn't been part of him, as a sign to show the real him. Brown eyes represent independence, painting him as his own man.
— Curtains that hid part of his face meant he hadn't let go of who he was fully. Something is stiffling him. When he averted his eyes, he was showing the viewers as a caution for something, but people started suspecting he may actually want to show something.
— He was bind by something. He was caught, and most likely injured. The scratches resembled that from a small animal, rather than from attempts to get out. His barefeet indicate that he was actually free, but is now bind. He hesitated to 'step' on the word, pointing to his willingness to learn, even if it will cost his life (limpness).
— Fans recognized the place easily as Incheon Chinatown, so alluding to his chinese (taiwanese) heritage. His loneliness meant there was a rejection he had in that part of the culture (being that he didn't know any relatives he had from his mom's side).
— The rings most likely represented marriage. People suspected the pink ribbon was of a child, and the fact that it was cut meant the child didn't make it. As mauve ribbon represented him, it meant that he could've tie the rings, but he hesitated.
— The eight spinner had stopped somewhere, and many suspected that they represented the other eight members (as the end tip of the needle resemble the cutouts of their animals). The spinner that continued to spin was his, uncertain on where to land.
— Black cats have been known to bring bad luck. Rain appears in dramatic scenes to represent a bad time. The fact that he just impulsively picks it up, chasing the cat meant he wants to 'chase' the reason for his misery. But the eight needles breaking meant their 'bad luck' had come true.
— He ran down the long corridor, full of uncertainty. Fans suspected he actually didn't look like he freaked out, but determined. Meaning he knows of something, especially now that he had the blue eyes. But in the process, he lost the jacket (where he'd kept the rings), losing part of himself.
— When he approached the room, he'd seemed to actually know what the room really held, certain with the knowledge. But the spinner rotates, meaning that he was, still uncertain, after all things.
— "Curiosity killed the cat" In this case, he was both the cat and the cat's killer. His reflection on the mirror proves that. He really wanted to know what gave him (and nox) their circumstances, so he wanted the answer. When he had the blue eyes, he took the identity of the cat. He had the knowledge, but not an answer. But he was taken to The Veil, where the cat had most likely belonged.
— The red room was about something that had been chasing them both, but it's really unknown.
— "Satisfaction brings it back" When he'd stomp on his curiosity, he'd accepted his fate. The things that had tied him went off. He accepted that the world has once, is now, and would always be uncertain. The broken spinner represented the old him, and now he is no longer who it is. The nine keys was all about he and s, eager for a new world still uncertain, but he's ready to face them.
— He covered the screen to hide what he's about to do, something that is full of surprises.
