woo actually helpful applyfic 'spill the tea' moment?? (aka im back ranting after idk how many years)

I think personally applyfics are harder to write compared to normal fanfics lol

You have characters with different ensemble (looking REAL hard at you people who have like 12+ girlgroups/boygroups) and dynamics and then with your own premise and initial thoughts and then having to write a whole new plot from your premise and different plot twists and relationships?

That and including you having your own life and other commitments, plus the only people who will comment would be your applicants (who, understandably, will not always write comments all the time).

That's really difficult and discouraging, and it's not surprising a lot of applyfics just never really come to fruition (many not even the first chapter). Some applyfics like bgs/ggs can create a lot of flexibility in the plot, yes, and most premises need to be as broad as possible anyways, but it's not the easiest.

But on another hand I also think it shows the abilities of the author and their worldbuilding (and writing) skills. It's a good way to train yourself if you're going to become a serious writer, and I can 100% assure you it's quite rewarding.

So yeah, as authors I think it's our responsibilities and challenges to be able to bring applyfics to fruition.

I agree! Sometimes you really have to be your own cheerleader when it comes to writing. of course, a break every so often is good in any hobby, but it's a good way to test your willpower. it's also a great way to teach yourself to work with "deadlines" or schedules

"It's a good way to train yourself if you're going to become a serious writer, and I can 100% assure you it's quite rewarding." 100% agree! I love the challenge writing applyfics gives, it really forces you to plan and consider angles you might not normally even realize are there simply because you're having to work with character who aren't instinctively familiar~ It's honestly a great way to learn not just writing but also self-pacing and self-encouragement since as you mentioned a lot of commenters tends to fizzle after the first few chapters so there's little to no external motivation with these types of stories ^^'' Anyway, glad to see someone else saying this as well!

I agree with “you have to write a whole different premise” which is why I get demotivated quickly but I’ll try to overcome it
I just don’t want to write kpop idol applyfics for now
