우주소년 / WHO ARE YOU IVAN KOH?

ivan koh

fc

BIRTHNAME : Ivan Koh Jun Kang
NICKNAMES :

Bern,  It was supposed to be a shorten version of his name, Van, but because the people of his native dialect can’t voice the sound ‘v’ it ended sounding like /bɜːn/ instead. Ivan had stylised the spelling into ‘Bern’ since it looks cooler.

Sargent,  He got this nickname because of his position as company leader of his platoon during his time in National Service.

1 Malaysia
Ivan is from a mixed race family which is why his friends often label him as ‘1 Malaysia’ which was a slogan for the harmony of all the races of Malaysia.

Vandevil, It’s a nickname that he got from his school years since he was quite the trickster and troublemaker in his youth

Prince of Malaysia,  Many loyal Malaysian fans had dubbed him with the tittle because he is a Malaysian Kpop idol and they want do something to appreciate his efforts in subtly promoting Malaysia and culture.  Ivan is quite embarrassed by this nickname since he feels that the fans are giving him too much credit.

DATE OF BIRTHMarch 13th 1992
BIRTHPLACE : Kuala Abang, Dungun, Terengganu
BLOOD TYPE : A
ETHNICITY : Chinese
NATIONALITY : Malaysian
LANGUAGES SPOKEN :

Malay, Native, It is his national language and the language he often use when speaking in public.

English, Advance/Fluent, He has a good mastery of English since it is a compulsory language to learn and master in school. He is comfortable in using English as he is with Malay and often combines those two languages to form a pidgin called ‘Manglish’

Jawi, Fluent, It is an Arabic alphabet for writing the Malay language and is used as an alternative script in Malaysia.  Ivan had picked it up after his Malay friends had taught him how to read and write it when he had curiously asked them what the writings on their school walkway meant.  He is able to write in it well and even joined a calligraphy completion at his school once.

Mandarin, Conversational, he didn’t grew up learning Mandarin and had only started to learn it seriously when he was 17 after his national exam. He can read, write and hold a conversation well but does have his stuttering moments from time to time.

— Korean, Conservational, When Ivan started his training period in South Korea, he had to attend a compulsory Korean language class where he had learnt most of his language skills. He isn’t one of the most well-spoken members but he isn’t the worst either. Despite being in South Korea for so long, he still can’t properly voice a few tones, causing him to mispronounce words (much to s’ amusement).  He often carries his language workbook with him, early in their debut.

Tamil, Basic, Ivan is not fluent enough in Tamil to form sentences other than the basic greeting, phrases and terms that he had memorised from his mother’s conversations with her siblings but he is still able to understand the gist of the language when use.

APPEARANCE

— Ivan Koh has straight and short black hair that is styled in a typical mushroom cut with the fringe combed to cover up his forehead. He has narrow, monolid eyes in the shade of chocolate brown that tends to appear lighter under the right lighting, giving him a youthful and rather mischievous look. He has a long face, high check bone, sharp angles with full lips and straight pearly white teeth. Ivan has an athletic build with lean, well-defined biceps, strong looking thighs and large calloused hands. He has a warm beige complexion that could be considered quite dark by Korean standards but perfectly normal from where he is from. He also had a few acne scars and blemishes on his forehead and a small beauty mark on the tip of his nose.

FASHION STYLE :

— Ivan has a smart and casual looking sense of style. He prefers wearing something that looks presentable in any occasion and would often wear plain polo or collared shirts in shades of blues, greens, or yellows with comfortable slacks or pants. He likes to wear short sleeve shirts and ¾ pants but South Korea is too cold for him to wear them comfortably. Ivan likes it when the stylist gave fake tattoos and glittery, colourful makes up that uses small jewels around his eyes or cheeks since he loves how shiny they are. Ivan doesn’t like wearing any accessories since he finds them bothersome especially rings and bracelets.

It's a secret.

PERSONALITY :

Ivan Koh is a generally well-liked person. He is nice to everyone he meets and is very mannerly in his interactions with others. He gives equal amount of respect (if not more to certain persons, such as his parents), to both his elders and his juniors. He doesn’t really like to treat anyone being beneath him or anyone treating him any differently because of his age and feels uncomfortable if someone starts to address him formally.  He prefers to have a much more casual relationship, especially towards his dongsaengs but remain respectful towards his elders unless they allowed him to informal with them. He is generous with his ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ and rarely forgets to be respectful. He is quick to bow down or bend down slightly when he is passing by someone older than him (or his sunbae) or receive something with both of his hands and would apologizes if he is only using one hand to receive it. He is friendly and seemingly always in a good mood, it is as if he sees the world being full of cupcakes and rainbows instead of being cold and harsh (Its either that or he is constantly being fed something suspicious). He is easy to get along with and is good at striking up casual conversations with the people around him, which is why he often can get along with pretty much anyone he is placed with. He has a warm, brotherly presence that makes people feel at ease when they are around him and it does not take long for them to feel comfortable around him. He is good at livening the interactions between his friends with his seemingly endless energy and silly antics, rarely would there be a time where a conversation turns into an awkward silence when he is acting up as a buffer and keeping up with the small talks.

Ivan does not suffer fools gladly and has an almost fool proof bull radar that he had painstakingly hone in after being exposed to the amount of trouble and bull his friends had subjected him with (and not to mention his bandmates after the years). He knows when to drop a well-placed “I told you so” (mostly muttered under his breath or just by his facial expression) and some anti bull advice since he would be trying his best to ensure that they learn from their mistakes, instead of making the same, probably dumb mistake. He doesn’t necessarily sugar coat his opinions either especially when asked. He might not always tell them what they want to hear but he will definitely tell them what they need to hear. However, he only offers his opinions when truly asked for and truly necessary, if not, then he is just content to sit back and watch or indulge people’s self-deception of themselves since it is easier and takes the least amount of effort .  He can be a little loud, judging by the amount of times someone would yell “Can you tone it down!” or “Inside voice!” at him, but what is Ivan without making any noise in way or another. He is not overly talkative (well, in his opinion that is, his bandmates may beg differ)but he does love to liven up the mood with his self-generated sound effects so, there is rarely any quiet moment when he is around. He would often finds himself occasionally cracking out lame jokes that sometimes only the older generations could understand while the rest of his groupmates would just laugh out of necessity (or sometimes out of pity) for his efforts.

He is reckless because he believes that he can do anything and is stubborn enough to keep trying. Tell him that he can’t do something and watch him as he tries until he does it or get seriously hurt, either one really. He just can’t take lightly anyone belittling his competence and abilities and will try his darnest to prove them wrong by either being better or achieving higher that their expectations. He had already done many stupid things out of petty pride before and he is alive so far so he didn’t see any reason for him to put too much thought in it. Ivan never admits himself as a patient person. He is easily irritated but years of practice made him gain better control at keeping his temper intact. That didn’t mean he never act on his temper since he prefers a passive aggressive method in expressing his irk. If his comments came off as a little sharper, being more blunt than normal, purposely dismissing his groupmates or giving them the silent treatment are a few ways that Ivan will show his annoyance until his temper has cools down to a shimmer.

BACKGROUND :Ivan started his humble beginnings in near the small and quiet town of Dungun. It had always been his ambition as a child to be a famous singer. Ever since his father had introduced him to the wonders of music through classical songs played by his grandfather’s old record player and old movies containing classic serenades of musical instrument. Little Ivan would be carrying around a toy mic and singing along songs through the radio or have a mini karaoke session in his father’s car. His parents were supportive of his dreams had encourage him to continue on singing, taking him to local singing competitions or talent shows and taking the time to drive him to competitions and auditions around Malaysia to help with his dream.  Ivan grew to his teens with charisma and talent for performing on stage something that most would find weird for a boy of Chinese decedent  but not unwelcomed since he will always be the first one to volunteer to sing in any school events and the teachers hardly says no because of his boundless enthusiasm.

At the age of 15, Ivan had auditioned for a reality show, Akademi Fantasia, for a chance to start his career in the entertainment industry. However, he was rejected for being too young for the show and because his vocal skill still needs a lot of work. Ivan was heartbroken  but it didn’t stop him from trying his best to get better on his own.  Two years down the road and Ivan had to face a national exam, SPM, that would determine his future to further his studies and it was around this time that his father took him down to the seaside one night and asked him if being a singer was really, what he wanted. His father didn’t want Ivan to throw away his future because being a singer won’t guarantee him anything and Malaysia is not a country that is kind to its musicians. His father wanted him to stop and focus more on his studies as his exam was getting nearer and nearer and stop chasing his dreams. Ivan was speechless and as he continued to stare at the rolling waves, he said, no. Ivan said to his father that he already knew about the hardship, everyone has already told him of the waste of a good future he was making, but he wants this. He doesn’t want to regret anything in the future and being a singer is something he really wants. He will study and do his best for his exam but he will never stop singing no matter how it will take for him to reach the top. They never spoke about it again and Ivan was grateful that his father had allowed him to continue with his dreams. Ivan joined ‘Bintang RTM’ that year but he only managed to make it to the semi-finals before he was eliminated. He finished his schooling and was call for national service before he began to audition for recording companies but he was either rejected or been put on hold. Ivan had tried to make a name for himself in Malaysia but he was not well received in the mainstream music industry where most of the singers were Malays so he didn’t get a lot of fanbase.

Ivan knew he won’t be very successful in Malaysia nor would he get the international recognition that he wanted from staying there so when his uncle has asked him if he wanted to continue his studies in Shanghai, Ivan immediately took the offer and migrated to stay with his uncle.  Few months there, his uncle told him about Asian Wave, reality singing talent show featuring contestants from many different Asian countries and had asked him if he wanted to represent Malaysia.  He went to sign up instantly. He passed the initial auditions and managed to reach for the top 16 contestant, however, he lost to fellow Malaysian and didn’t make it to the final round.  Ivan was once again disappointed in himself, thinking that he should had done better and he had failed on himself for ruining his chances again. That was until, an agent came and approached with an offer.  He was told that Yuehua entertainment would love to have him in their trainee program for him to debut in an idol group and he could expand his talent as a singer. He was given a business card and was told to come in for an audition, with how he had stood on stage, it would be easy for him to get in.  At first, Ivan was sceptical at the offer as it was around the time where idolism weren’t so wide spread so he wondered what is an idol or does it entails? So far he had only seen groups such as ZE:A and Cross Gene but it doesn’t tell him much about being an idol except a bunch of pretty boys performing.  Nevertheless, Ivan was getting desperate, he knows that the competition was his last ticket to fame and he had lost it. He is not getting any younger and he was not anywhere near his dream. After some digging about Yuehua, Ivan came up with the decision to take the offer and hope that he would finally be closer to his goal. You only live once.

CONNECTIONS :

— Father : Benjamin Koh / Technician/ Charismatic, Fun-Loving, Sometimes Serious /  9/10  FC: Micheal Ang
Personality wise, Ivan took after his dad and his father is his main pillar of support. He is the one that had helped Ivan be the person he is and the one that never gave up on him. His father is like Ivan’s #1 fan and often keep cut outs and print outs of Cosmic Boy’s article in a specially made scrapbook.

— Step - Mother : Rhogeni Murugan / Housewife / Gentle, Quiet,Opinionated / 9/10 FC: Tabu
She may not be his real mother but Ivan loves all the same. He never feels bothered about her being his step mother since she had been the one taking care of him for as long as he can remember and  he  is definitely his amma’s boy. He never fails to mention how much he loves his amma (and dad) on camera. He misses his amma dearly and is usually reluctant to Skype call her since he will feel homesick afterwards (the time zone difference is also one of the factors). His amma low-key fan girls at Cosmic Boy’s visuals and will get super excited if Ivan gave her the chance to speak with the other members on speaker.

— Real Mother : Elizabeth Lim / Lawyer/ Assertive, Independent, Stubborn / 7/10 FC: Michelle Yeoh

Ivan still maintains a good relationship with his real mother since Rhogeni (Ivan's stepmother)  insisted that he knew about his real mother and makes active effort to arrange family diners for them to be together. They are a little awkward sometimes but they are still good. Also, Ivan low-keys loves it when he gets to say he has 2 loving mothers instead of one.  Despite how much his dad and mami (Elizabeth)  don't get along, Elizabeth does try to be civil with her ex-husband and knows he is still a little salty over her choosing her career than family (since she had left the family when Ivan was a toddler and gave custody to her husband) but that does not mean they won't trade polite insults when Ivan is not around.

TRAINEE LIFE

—  2012-2014 (Yuehua Entertaintment)

Ivan’s training period was an experience all by itself. When Ivan first entered Yuehua’s trainee program, he has no idea what was in-store for him. He had never received any formal training other than what he had self-refined and what little coaching period he had received as a completion contestant. He had an intense but mostly welcomed lessons on how to improve his vocal skills and breathing techniques. However, since he was signed under an Idol training program, singing was not the only thing he had to improve and relearn from scratch.  He struggled in dance and often gets stressed out because he felt he was not giving his all. He usually finds himself being really tired by the end of the day. He had also discovered that his broadcasted vocal abilities was the only thing that actually kept him from being drop out of the company. He had a lot to improve if he ever wanted to be at the same level as the other Yuehua trainees, whom had been training longer than he did. He tries to get along with the other trainee but because of his accent and poor language skills, he was not really well received.  Months of training bleeds in to a year and Ivan had finally managed to keep up with the more skilled Yuehua trainees (in sense of dance and vocals). By sheer determination and hours upon, upon hours of hard work despite not being extraordinarily talented, not everyone can be a triple threat but he is constant enough to stand on his own. In his second year at Yuehua, rumours flies about a potential collaboration with a Korean company and by the time,  Ivan had knew enough about the kpop industry to know it was a big deal. He didn’t thought about it much since he was still in the middle tier when it comes to skills so it was a surprised when he was selected to be one of the few to be transferred to South Korea.

— 2014-2015 (Starship Entertaintment)

In Starship, communication was still a major problem for him. The environment was no different from when he was in Yuehua. He tries his best to be friendly with the other trainees but he never stuck with one group, jumping around between friends while making sure, he was right on the same level as they are. He did not get enough to eat and had to rely on whatever money he has from his savings and what the company had provided him with, which was not much. Ramen had been his best friend during these times. He can’t work part time either since he didn’t have the necessary docs and communication skills needed. There were days, he thought of quitting but he thought of the reason why he stayed and held on for so long made him kept going. Even though, he never knew when he could stand on the stage and perform again.

SCANDELS :

—Ivan Racist?!  :  He was caught using a few slurs during a vlive. He was not caught on camera but there was audio of him saying it. He was asked to make a formal apology because of it .

LIFE IN COSMIC BOY : Being one of the eldest but was introduced close to the last was never fun since there was a heaping pile of expectation for his song debut to go well. Ivan felt as if he wasn’t able to fully showcase his vocal skills through the song he was given. He tried his best to portray the emotions within the song even though he felt somewhat detached. It was not the song he wanted to showcase.

Ivan was given the image of the playful and witty member which was not much different than how he is usually so he didn’t have to craft an image for himself and decided to be the same fun-loving Ivan. The Ivan that entertains and is always smiling, Cosmic Boy’s very own mood maker. This is who he is and he has nothing to hide.

Being put together in a group this large was not ideal but beggars can’t be choosers and Ivan was just grateful that he even managed to debut even though he can’t get a lot of lines or get enough screen time during mv shoots or broadcast and was only known as one of the foreigner member. He had experiences in working with a group much larger than this during his time in national service so he was not too concerned on how he would tolerate being with them. He is forever thankful for Korean age system because he will never managed to get the members to do what he tells them to do without his using seniority. In the dorms, he was quick to take charge of the scheduling and the distribution of chores for the members to do.  Ivan tries his best to be the mature one in the arguments but his patients is running thin and it won’t be long until it runs out. He can’t play his role as the good older hyung forever.

Ivan feels rather restricted to his position as ‘lead vocal’ when he was so much more than that. he has far more experience than the majority of s but he was stuck in being one of the underrated one because he was over shadowed by the cuter, more loveable maknea line. He didn’t work his off, learning those dances and improving his vocal skills just only to be given the chorus line and one solo word in a song.

Ivan was well aware of the constant pressure of being in an idol group, he was not naïve enough to believe that everything will be smooth sailing but at the same time, he would rather pretend that those hate and criticism about literally everything they do don’t exist. Ignorance is bliss after all. No matter how much it stings when s would think less of him for not having any care of the world However, what Ivan didn’t expect was the bone deep tiredness of not being able to turn off or run away from being ‘Ivan’. Fans don’t want to see the Ivan that is not smiling or being a good sport in things he not comfortable in or not being his happy self as if they can’t see that he is human too. He has his off days where he would be frowning in annoyance or aren’t able to find it in himself to be cheerful. He also guilt ridden with jealousy with the amount of lines the main vocals would get when he is stuck to the background. He wanted more.

He didn’t sign the contract to ended up being somewhat a parent to 12 other people and he definitely didn’t sign up for any drama either. Ideally, Ivan wouldn’t want any part of it. Nevertheless, being in the hyung line and self-appointed mature one, it is sort of his part time job to ensure that s are not killing each other or get into unnecessary arguments, no matter how tempting it is for him to just smack them on the head so they will know how childish they are acting. Being dramatic won’t get anyone anywhere except for stupidville.

Hello! This is your review so yeah^^

No first off, I personally don't that Wenhan can pull of a half Chinese half indian. The rule with FC's was for halfing that faceclaim had to be half as well, Wehan is full chinese (same with Lay). (also my opinion Wenhan is very pale) So You might have to change ethnicity, or change FC to a more suitable fc, other than basics are good!
So personally you can change it to a different marriage? Or like he has a different mother? I think that sot of thing would work well for Ivan^^ (ALSO HAS THERE BEEN A MALAYSIAN KPOP IDOL IDK??? BUT THERE NEEDS TO BE ONE)
He is the two faced delinquent, you know the type of people who are respectful but is also an a**hole he seems so fun loving me gusta.
ALSO THANK YOU FOR MAKING SOMEONE FROM YUEHUA

Just fix the things mentioned above
- Ethnicity problem
