A Discussion on: Theory of Multiple Intelligences...

HOT Quick Note:

AND I don't need to...just send me your top 3 like:  Logic/visual/music

Greetings Fam & Random Readers!!!

For those of you who actually know me, you may or may not know, some of these facts about my private nature & personality…

  • I'm a 'word pig'…to the point where I read the dictionary and thesaurus to refresh vocabulary and update the multitude of meanings that any single word can hold.
  • I enjoy learning the origin and meaning of words and names to the point of 'collecting' baby name books in several different languages (Korean, Irish, Welsh, English, Latin, Pagan, etc.)…
  • I love to share 'war' stories about personal experiences from different POVs depending on who I believe had the better laugh, myself or the other people involved…
  • I do other 'strange' things that would drive most people to the brink of insanity, like detailed color enhancement on photos, linear-geometric shape drawings, color-coding my entire life (so it makes sense?) and research medicinal properties of herbs/flowers/trees…

Every person has talents--certain gifts, knowledge and abilities they we're born with--and I am a firm believer in the fact that these preferences make us who we are AND also manipulate how we learn or strive to enhance the inherently special qualities within ourselves…it attempts to focus your attention on your personal path and destiny.

The reason I'm writing this blog entry is to help you be more aware of HOW you learn, HOW your mind works and maybe eventually (hopefully) HOW to find your unique place in this world…all while pushing towards fulfilling your own personal genius, slap full of strengths, abilities and knowledge.

This can help you with career choices, college studies and even hobbies.

Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences (Breaking it down)

This data is blatantly transcribed from the original owners, all rights & 'fanboy/girling' need to be directed to them, please!!!

(Note: highly encourage you to check out this paper, especially Table 1, it breaks down each area with roles/career suggestions!)

(Note: this assessment only includes the first 8 areas of intelligence, it doesn't address #9, existential)

"In life, we need people who collectively are good at different things. A well-balanced world, and well-balanced organizations and teams, are necessarily comprised of people who possess different mixtures of intelligences. This gives that group a fuller collective capacity than a group of identical able specialists…” Howard Gardner, Ph.D., Professor of Education at Harvard University

Theory Highlights:

Many of us are familiar with three general categories in which people learn: visual learners, auditory learners, and kinesthetic learners.

Beyond these three general categories, many theories of and approaches toward human potential have been developed.

Among them is the theory of multiple intelligences, developed by Howard Gardner, Ph.D., Professor of Education at Harvard University.

Gardner’s early work in psychology and later in human cognition and human potential led to the development of the initial six intelligences.

Today there are nine intelligences and the possibility of others may eventually expand the list.

These intelligences (or competencies) relate to a person’s unique aptitude set of capabilities and ways they might prefer to demonstrate intellectual abilities.

The Learning Areas:

1. Verbal-linguistic intelligence (Word Smart):  well-developed verbal skills and sensitivity to the sounds, meanings and rhythms of words

2. Logical-mathematical intelligence (Logic Smart):  ability to think conceptually and abstractly, and capacity to discern logical and numerical patterns

3. Spatial-visual intelligence (Picture Smart):  capacity to think in images and pictures, to visualize accurately and abstractly

4. Bodily-kinesthetic intelligence (Body Smart):  ability to control one’s body movements and to handle objects skillfully

5. Musical intelligences (Music Smart): ability to produce and appreciate rhythm, pitch and timber

6. Interpersonal intelligence (People Smart):  capacity to detect and respond appropriately to the moods, motivations and desires of others

7. Intrapersonal intelligence (Self-Smart):  capacity to be self-aware and in tune with inner feelings, values, beliefs and thinking processes

8. Naturalist intelligence (Naturalistic):  ability to recognize and categorize plants, animals and other objects in nature

9. Existential intelligence (Grand Scheme Smart): sensitivity and capacity to tackle deep questions about human existence such as, What is the meaning of life? Why do we die? How did we get here?

Human potential can be tied to one’s preferences to learning…

AND…

Just because these five are not in your top three doesn’t mean you’re not strong in them.

If your average score for any intelligence is above three,

you’re probably using that intelligence quite often to help you learn.

LadyPJ's other five intelligence scores:

04)  Intrapersonal intelligence (self) - 3.29

05)  Interpersonal intelligence (people) - 3.29

06)  Musical intelligence (music) - 3.14

07)  Logical intelligence (mathematics) - 2.0

08)  Kinesthetic intelligence (body) - 2.0

I hope you found this interesting & please, take the assessment at the link above!!!

I'd be very interested in knowing HOW each of you learn...just because I'm weird like that, lol!!!

Happy Learning Everyone!!!

.... i love ur obsession about words XD
MissMinew
#3
1) Naturalist
2) Intrapersonal
3) Interpersonal

Those are my top three, haha. And according to the other 5, the only one I use regularly beside the top 3 is the linguistic, lol. All others are below 3, logic as low as 1.71 lmao.

Oh well, I think some of the questions are asked rather ... subjectively.
I know some of my answers were heavily influenced by my anxiety and my habit of downplaying my own abilities. But I can't answer with what other's have objectively said when it asks to my opinion. (:
