「♡」Bang Sejung — is the miss right

searching for the Miss Right

let's start with small steps

birthname : Bang Sejung
nickname(s) :

」Bang - aside from being her surname, also refers to the English sound for banging on some drums. A lot of their fans will call her this at this point and most in the company will add "little Bang" if they are older than her.

date of birth : May 6, 1994
birthplace : Seoul, SK
ethnicity : Korean
language(s) spoken :

」 Korean - fluent  - native
」English - intermediate - learned in school and through a lot of self education as she is very interested in the bands of the west.

introduction :

」 Given her first guitar at five, drums at seven, Sejung is more known as the little sister Haejung in The Great Wonsung or for her cheeky character in Red Ribbon Ramen CFs than for her band DNG. Even though Sejung loves music, composing and performing it, the allure of stardom in the idol space has left her a little confused as to what her future will be. So here she is, joining a show with her company decides the future of DNG...and most certainly her own career along with it.  Does she think this show will give her a chance at love? Maybe, maybe not.  But that's not the most pressing thing, is it?

personality :

」 Creative,, Unassuming,, Reserved, Introspective, Awkward, Mannered, but surprisingly exciteable and tends to show a childlike wonder and excitement for things once she gets out of her shell. She is oddly marked by moments of eccentricity and devious brilliance that takes other by surprise. A complex creature indeed.

"Lose your temper already damnit!!"  Mild and even-tempered, Sejung is not easily exciteable. She doesn't let the little things bother her, and is a master of just shaking it off and moving on. Truthfully Sejung simply doesn't have the desire to expend the energy of getting angry. She doesn't like the person she is when she becomes angry, so Sejung is very careful and calculated when it comes to her temper. When she does lose her temper, Sejung can be a bit passive aggressive, and finds it hard to articulate her true feelings on a matter. She really dislikes thid about herself, thus she tries to avoid this side of her personality coming out if at all possible.

And because she is so mild, many tend to underestimate her. Not in a bad way. People find Sejung easy to be around: she's a go with the flow sort, and is generally good and pleasant company to those near her. But she is reserved and mannered. Polite almost to a fault, Sejung speaks very formally and never shirks her duties when it comes to good manners (respect the elders, thank the crew properly, be mindful of her youngers, etc).  Sejung has a bad habit of just living in her head: she thinks about what she's doing a little too deliberately, and lacks sponteneity in most circumstances. Is she a little dull? At first glance, certainly.

But Sejung really just minds her manners because truthfully she is just so...awkward in most social situations. Prior to debut, Sejung tended to just say the first thought on her mind, and without a filter, and more often than not it was totally not the right thing to say. She doesn't mean to do it. But sometimes she forgets her social filter. Amongst friends and family, it's fine. They know her, she knows them. But if its new people, her social anxiety just tends to sky rocket for a bit and she is prone to just spewing whatever nonsense is in her head. So. Manners and reservations. It keeps her from making a fool of herself at the cost of making her a little dull. Better than inserting her foot into right away though, right?

But even if this reserved, polite, awkward girl appears like this at first, those who get to know Sejung find her to be less awkwardd, and just a little eccentric. The most random of things can spark her to drop her reserved image so easily. Sejung loves to live in the moment of her interests. An article on the latest machine intelligence and how SK is contributing to it? Oh, Sejung will jump all over that and brightly engage anyone in conversation on it. Speaking freely and comfortably, you might not recognize the initial image of Sejung in these moments. Arguably, this is the real Sejung. Not the mannered, unassuming girl. The young lady who can extrapulate on her interests and open up without worry about making a fool of herself is the one those close to her see. And, much to their chargrin, those she grows close to realize something else about Sejung...

While Sejung lives in her head a lot, she is also really, REALLY thinking things through. The idea of a chess player thinking through their next set of moves well in advance is a pretty close amalgem of Sejung. When Sejung decides to put her mind to it, she can tackle most situations with strategems. Has she used this power for evil and tricked her bandmates into doing something to get her way? ...All. The. Time. Don't worry. She won't do this to you...unless she likes you. If Sejung likes you, then you might need to worry a little...

trivia :
- If music is playing, she will idly either drum her fingers with the beat or even mimic the movement she would do on a piano against a hard surface if available.

- When thinking hard, she often goes through a motion of twisting her hair, appearing to twist it up into a messy bun, and then releasing it so it cascades back around her face. She will repeat this countless times if she is frustrated and trying to consider what to do.

- Currently has a CF deal with Red Ribbon Ramen resturants and has appeared in three commericals.

- She can actually play all of the instruments in the band, and even has a little bit of vocals. Why is she the drummer? No one else could do it honestly. And she does have a lot of fun performing with them.

- She's quite a comic book, video game, and tech geek honestly. Get her into one of these topics, and its one of the moments her child-like glee will shine through.

- Music too honestly. A critical discussion on technique and composition will also engage her tremedously.

- Honestly, Sejung doesn't really want to be on the show. She's not fond of variety, and feels awkward and almost dishonest when put on the spot since she has been told to

- Is the master of reading something while walking without running into things.

- Master of the subway. Tag along with Sejung if you never want to miss a train.

- Loves cats. They are her favorite animal, and she has quite a few cat themed items. An ideal gift for her could have a cat theme.

- Her favorite food is by far bibimbap. Simple and delicious.

- Really hates hot drinks. A hot coffee will be allowed to cool to room temp if she can.

- Doesn't really like to dance either. She feels weird doing it.

- Currently attends university and working on her degree in musical theory.

love experience :

」 Tri Ent didn't really have a dating ban, so all of the girls in the group have had basic dating experiences. Sejung had a boyfriend in highschool she dated for a year before her debut, and it was typical high schooler cute stuff.

While filming the Great Wonsung though,  Sejung met the actor Choi Jaehyung (27, envisioned to look like Jung Joonyoung) who played the lead role of Wonsung. While they played siblings on the drama, on set there was a definite chemistry between the two.  Jaehyung is a noted charmer and has been known to have dated Korea's Sweetheart at one time. Despite this, the flirtations were genuine and it can be said the pair did genuinely like each other. However, due to rumors and the risk of scandal, nothing came of the interactions. This has left her a little bitter about the restrictions being in the public eye means for a social life, but what can you do?

light up as if you're going to disappear

stage name : Sejung
occupation : Idol Band Drummer/actress
company : Tri Entertainment
debut date : October 17, 2015

group name : DNG
members :

Kim Soyeon -  (envisioned as Jiyeon from fromerly T-Ara) - February 1, 1992 -  Frontwoman/Vocalist, Guitar as needed - The ourspoken, shameless leader of DNG. She has known Sejung since they were children and was the one who had dreams of grandeur.. She founded the band with Dayeon and Sejung, and they played small gigs up until Tri Ent signed them.
Park Dayeon - Guitar/Rap (envisioned as Jieun from Secret) - January 7 1992 - , Dayeon is truly the sweetheart of the group when interviewed. Sweet, kind, and a little naive, she pulls off s more fierce persona on stage when playing her guitar.. Chatty and a bit of a goof, she and Soyeon are known for acting a little bit like fake maknaes. Dayeon easily gives in to her bandmates, and she isa bit of a pushover.
Jung Somi - Keyboard/Vocals  (envisioned as  Heo Youngji of Kara) - July 19, 1995 - Quiet and demure,  Somi has the most regal air about her. She often acts more like the leader and oldest of the group. She is also a good vocalist and dancer, and has mentioned being in a "band" was never her thing. Would proably be the happiest to redebut as a girl group honestly. But she is also a decent actress.
Jung Hyemi-  Bass/subrap and vocals (envisioned as Heo Youngji of Kara) - July 19, 1995 - Sejung's closest friend in the group these days. Bright and bubbly, they compliment each other well when they appear on shows and such together. While he is a decent vocalist and dancer, she enjoys being part of the band and works a lot with Sejung to improve. Arguably the main money maker of the group along with Sejung these days.

star history :

」 Tri Entertainment had a problem. While known for their actors and models, they wanted to get into the music scene. And to their delight, they realized they actually had a trainee by the name of Kim Soyeon in their ranks. Soyeon was the founder of a band named DNG (Dream Now Girl). She was able to convince her to recruit her two friends as well into the company. While Dayeon and Sejung were certainly talented on the musical front, they didn't exude enough "idolness", so Tri placed two of their trainees into the groups as well: the Jung twins Somi and Hyemi.  The band trained together for a year and debuted in the last quarter of 2015.

It did not exactly go well. Bands weren't the big thing, let alone an all female band. Add in that Tri really wanted DNG to go the route of more "idol-like" bands like CN Blue and FT Island. And DNG had trouble gaining attention. Lacking the star power and charisma more lively girl groups had, DNG was close ot being a flop. Many even commented that Tri tried so hard to make a "girlgroup" that the company would do better redubting all the girls in the band into a girl group.

However, shortly after the release of "Without You", maknae of the group Hyemi appeared in the drama "Under the Moon" in a secondary role that garnered her some attention for her ability to steal the spotlight from the main female lead. Many a fan were suffering from second lead syndrome, though with the female lead instead.

With their more pop appeal and Hyemi's star power, DNG  started to gain some popularity during their Get Out era.  While not outstanding, they were receving opportunities outside of music: Somi went on to appear in the family drama "Welcome Home", and the five of them also appeared in a 6 episode web series called "My Funny Darling" in 2017 before Get Out about a young man who couldn't laugh and ends up living with 5 girls (DNG).

This was Sejung's breakout. She played the girl who finally made the boy laugh, and a post on the instagram of popular soloist Kim Saemi proclaiming her love of  the short drama, and now they were a bit of an "it" thing. Dubbed the "Darling of DNG", Sejung along with Hyemi found themselves being asked onto shows and interviews.

Despite not being one of the actress trainees, Sejung is finding others seems to like her in the acting space. DNG begins getting CF deals,  starring in MVs, and  honestly, are finding success...but not as a band. As individuals either in variety (Soyeon and Dayeon) and acting (Somi, Hyemi, Sejung), and with the relatively lukewarm reception of Moya, there are rumors that DNG will be disbanding, and that Tri will redebut them as a more performance/dance oriented group.  This would require intense dance training for some of them.

Sejung herself would much rather quit the idol nonsense and go back to making music, but the allure of stardom is strong, and she is at odds with trying to figure out what she actually wants at the end of this show.

singles :

」 "We Are" - October 17, 2015 - Marked by little success and poor promotions, the song was written by the girls as a means of announcing their arrival. But it's sound was very indie and not well recieved by the greater public.

」 "Without You" - February 11, 2016 - aiming for a more  widespread appeal, the group managed to gain some more attention as the song hit a more pop-like feel. However, it should be noted they were very much "nugu" and honestly, everyone expected them to fail.

」 "Elvis" - May 21, 2016 -  Thanks to Hyemi's starpower and their more pop-like sound, while not overly popular, DNG is gaining a bigger fanbase. As Girlbands are not all that popular, they still didn't neccessarily chart high, and definitely weren't winning awards. But this does mark a noticeable quality improvement on their MVs.

」 "Get Out" - March 20, 2017 - (Pretend the dancing parts are band sections, and the girls all share different parts between 5 and not 7) Contuing the trend of improved MV quality, Get Oit is probably they're most well received single. This is due in no small part to the success of My Funny Darling and the promotions of the singulr members.

」 "Moya" - September 3, 2017 - Despite their relative success with Get Out, Moya failed to live up to expectations and had at best a lukewarm reception.

Dramas :

」 "My Funny Darling" - January 2017 - Sejung played herself opposite another actor trainee, and thanks to a shout out by a popular soloist, Sejung found herself in the spotlight a bit.

」 "The Great Wonsung" - August 2017 - Sejung plays the younger sister of the titular character Wonsung (Haejung).  It's a drama about a young man trying to become a magician, and the antics that ensue. Sejung has secured herself the beginnings of a sweet spot with the success of this drama, though if she continues this path she may have to give up a music career.

scandals and news articles :

」 "Tri Entertainment to re-debut DNG as a Girl Group?" - this article has been spreading around for the last 2 months. And while nothing has been denied or confirmed: it is true to an extent. Depending on how the show goes, DNG might be disbanded and some of the members redebuted in a new girl group. Sejung may or may not be part of this.
」 "Bang Sejung and Choi Jaehyung confirmed to be dating?" - false. There was chemistry between the two on set, and someone leaked they were dating. But it has been firmly denied. Tri Ent made sure very quickly to put a stop to it. Sejung was warned to watched her image, and that while there wasn't a dating ban on her, she had to consider her growing fanbase. In part, this "scandal" is what prompted Tri to send her on the show.

if we're together, it's like a harmony surrounds us

hello, please introduce yourself to the viewers :

」 "Hello, I'm the drummer of DNG Bang Sejung." She speaks very formally, bowing slightly., "you might also know me from The Great Wonsung. It's my pleasure to be here," she stands up straight, smiling a closed mouth smile.

HOW OR WHY DID YOU GET CHOSEN FROM YOUR AGENCY :

」 "Well," Sejung shrugs a little, giving a soft giggle, "I honestly think I had the most open schedule out of our band?" That earns her a laugh from the crew, "In all seriousness, I think my company wanted to give me a chance to promote myself more in a different format."

Also, Sejung is fully aware that the incident with Jaehyung might have played into this decision.

WHAT WERE YOUR REACTIONS WHEN YOU LEARNT YOU'D JOIN THE SHOW :

」 "I'm...a little anxious I suppose?" Sejung shrugs, looking just a little uncomfortable about the question, "Well...I mean, the intent is to date and meet others right? You're putting yourself out there a bit for everyone. Of course I'd be nervous!" She laugh a little at herself.

Truthfully, Sejung doesn't know how to feel. The well rehersed line was her saving grace. She remembers how at first, she was a little angry. Tri had given her such grief over the little bit of flirting she did with the actor Choi Jaehyung, and then they tossed her on this show? And when would she be back in the studio working on their next song, if at all? Nervous, sure. Anxious, certainly. But not for the reasons she stated to the crew.

AS A CELEBRITY, WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON DATING AND LOVE :

」 "My career usually comes first," she is honest here, "it's a choice I made, so I'm not really leaving myself a lot of time for love and dating. I'm not banned from it, but it wouldn't be fair to devote my time and energy to dating when I should be focusing on my band and our fans for now." Again, this is all true and honest.

"But everyone is entitled to love. So...if I find something here, would it be wrong for me to pursue it? For those celebrities who do find love, whether they do it openly or secretly, you have to find the right balance. So regardless of my personal situation, as a celebrity, you need to ensure your love does not interfere with your work. If it does...ah, well...then you might have a problem, right?"

WHAT IS YOUR IDEAL TYPE OF PARTNER :

」 For a moment, Sejung considers saying Choi Jaehyung, but stops herself.

"I like someone who can talk to me. That sounds weird, I know.  I mean," Sejung taps her chin a moment, trying to figure out a way to explain this, "At the end of a long day, you want someone who, when you send them a message about your days, can honestly say they understand. They don't have to  understand everything, just that your day was long. Does that make any sense? This is why I'm awful at interviews," she laughs in self deprecation.

Sejung refrains from rolling her eyes when the interviewer presses her to actually name a couple of people as her ideal type. She hums a little in frustration...

"Lee Hongki and," wait who was that guy Hyemi was really into...oh, right, "Ewan Seo."

WHAT DO YOU DISLIKE IN A PARTNER :

」 "Apathy," she says immediately, "and jealousy. A litte of both is fine, but when you are too much of it...ugh."

HOW DO YOU ACT AROUND SOMEONE WHO CATCHED YOUR INTEREST :

」 "I...act like...myself..." Sejung has to wonder if this is a trick question, "I mean...I talk a lot to them and take interest in what they are doing..."  She thinks back to how she interacted with Jaehyung, and realizes she also tends to let herself laugh more often and be less formal...huh. Funny the things she realizes when she thinks about it.

IDEAL FIRST MEETING :

」 pedestrian crossing
」 museum
subway 2
」 coffee shop
aquarium 3
arcade room 1
」 library
