Nothing Without You

Okay so I've calmed down enough so I'm here with some lame song reviews!

1) Nothing Without You (Intro.)
Wow, pretty vocals. And the lyrics cleverly fused all the three new songs together. Sungwoon's vocals slay and stand out so much in this song.

2) Beautiful
This is a song that I instantly like. It is like they are telling a story as the rap and the vocals on the lower range build up the story slowly and steadily, and then bursts into beautiful fireworks with Jinyoung's killing part, "I miss you so much". And it just spirals upwards and upwards until it reaches a small at the chorus. And then the story telling continues with slightly more intensity than the beginning with Woojin's rap. After the second verse and chorus (Jihoon slayed the "but why didn't I know" part oh gosh I get goosebumps there everytime), you can tell that the story is nearing its with the intense rap, but then there is a brief moment when the song is soft and all (with Minhyun's angelic vocals), and then Jaehwan busts out his high note and you feel like a thousand flowers have blossomed in your heart as the song es. The story ends with a soft note again as Daniel does the ending part, and finishes the story telling in a calm way, as if nothing has happened.

The more I listen to this song, the more I love it. Maybe because it's an autumn release? Autumn releases often offers the right amount of sadness, yet it fills you up with a type of bittersweetness? The lyrics are plain sad though, but like the way they introduced this song, I found comfort in it, and it's a very healing song and comfortable to listen to. I feel that Wannables are going to cry a lot if they listen to this after they pulled the d-act later.

(Also, watch the choreo of this song! It's so beautiful, like the title!)

3) I Wanna Have
When I first listened to this song, I feel like it's just a mediocre song, but it turns out to be really nice and have a cosy feeling to it. This song would be especially suitable to listen to in the middle of a rainy or snowy night. There is a slight electronic sounding twist in the middle (which could be the dance break) that ruins the mood a little, but it picked back later and overall, it's a really nice and warm sounding song. It sounds pretty innocent too, just a chill song.

OR SO I THOUGHT. I nearly choked when I saw the choreo of this song. A choreo can really affect the feeling of a song! It became a really y song when choreography is added (I know the word isn't very appropriate since there are still minors in the group). And wow, they DO look good with fitting clothes (not oversized) and in all black. The choreo doesn't involve any abs showing and hip ing (thank God for that), but the thing they do with their jackets... oh gosh. I'm so smitten and whipped by those boys. Also, whoever gave Daehwi a leather jacket and made him dance in the center during the dance break both deserve awards.

4) Twilight
The one song that sounds slightly brighter than the other new songs in the album. It has a really addicting undertone to it, and to be honest I haven't listen to it many times since it doesn't have a choreography (yet), it's only my third listen when I'm typing this, but my mind is already singing "Twilight, twilight, twilight" to the song. I feel like this song is being outshined by the other songs. Don't get me wrong, all three songs are equally good, but honestly though I think Twilight is slightly underrated compared with others. It's a good song to listen to when you're working out, and it gets you hyped not unlike in a way those songs with epic beat drops do, even if it doesn't really have a big beat drop. The rap line really did a good job with this song. Their baritone voices give the song its groove as the song ascends to its chorus. Seongwoo's bright tone colour really complements the chorus. Also, Jinyoung and Daehwi harmonising got me weak, even if it's just one short line.

5) To Be One (Outro.)
I was shocked when I first listened to it because I never thought it would be just a sad version of the To Be One intro in their first album. But then oh gosh, I looked up the lyrics and I almost cried because part of the lyrics said this:
Time is runnin’ out, we’ll be back soon.
There’s still so many things we want to tell you.
Time is runnin’ out, can you wait just a bit?
There’s so many things we want to show you.
To be one.

Not that I'm complaining, the lyrics reminded me the cruel truth that there're only like one year left for them to remain as one group, as Wanna One. After that, they would disband and return to their respective companies, and Wanna One will be no more. I dread for the time to come, but I know it is inevitable. This is a sad outro, in fact some of the saddest lyrics I've heard before, not because it's about love, but because it reminds us of the cold reality.

Conclusion: All the new songs are so good, but I must bring a light to the prequel remixes, because they're like... UGH. Energetic remix is slightly better, with the slightly exaggerated beat alternations, but Burn It Up is a whole other story. Burn It Up is such a good song, but the remix ruined it. Some intelligent mind decided to go alternate the chords and made the song sound really weird. At some parts, the beat is also louder than the vocals and I just couldn't enjoy the song properly. In other (blunt) words, this remix is just awful, and the original song sounds way better. But of course this is just my personal opinion!

On a whole, Wanna One had done a good job on the songs, no matter new or old. Jinyoung got to shine his vocals more in the new releases, but Jisung and Guanlin got significantly lesser lines than the others. (I hope they get more lines in the future!) I'm not in the right place to say that there are still small imperfections in this album (like the remixes), but I hope they get better and better, and I'll continue to watch them grow fondly.
