Dorothy has always been a nice kid with a very outgoing personality .
since she was a toddler , Dorothy has been very cheerful and friendly . She has always liked to meet new people and make friends. Moreover, unlike her brothers who used to be more quiet , she has always been a sort of "sunshine" who is almost always happy but also a kid who has never liked standing still and so is always up to something. Dorothy , indeed , is a lively girl who doesn't like to sit around doing nothing . She has always liked to learn new things , especially about her passions ( such as dancing, rapping, music and inventing stories) and to share them with the others (sometimes even when they don't like them) .
In fact, she is very talakative , especially when the main topic of the converstation is something that she likes . Anyway, also when you are talking about something she doesn't know she will suddenly start to bombard you with many questions XD .
She has also always been very curious, creative and endowed with a lot of fantasy . She is basically a daydreamer and likes everything that allows her to go off flights of fancy . In fact, she has always watched a lot of fantasy and sci-fi TV dramas, animes, cartoons and movies . Thank to her older brother, Richard, she has also become keen on books and novels (she likes especially the stories about magic and fantasy worlds) and started to create , first only in her mind then also in written form , short stories and fairytails. She also started to write lyrics recently (EVEN IF SHE doesn't think they are VERY GOOD).
Due to the fact that she was born and grew up in Australia , a very "Western Country" with a multicultural population, she is also very openminded and tolerant towards everyone ( especially about the LGTB community and the ethnic and religious minorities) . Like her parents and her brothers, she has always thought that every peson is precious, that everyone must be respected and that all the people are basically the same regardless , age, ethnicity,religion, family, ual preference and other things . In fact , she has always had both male and female friends who she has always treated in the same way .
Probably is also for this that she , unlike many other foreign people who became trainees and went to Korea to pursue their dream, still struggling to get used to the strict rules of Korean society that doesn't allow things like do the same kind of skinship to both females and males people (if you are a female you can't do the same friendly skinship you usually do to other females to a male ,unless he is your boyfriend . It's improper and would led you seems flirty).
She has always been very affectionate (she used to give lots of hugs and peck to everyone, especially to her brothers ) since she was a child Thanks to her labelmates and, especially , to the other trainees who are very understanding she is slowly learning to be "less affectionate" but she always likes to hug people, of both es, especially when they are sad, to show them support ,encouragement and friendship.
Dorothy , indeed , is very caring , kind-hearted and doesn't likes seeing people suffer , so , she is always trying to bring positivity and happiness to other people . Moreover, even when she is feeling down or is sad , she always try to be positive and to motivate others not to be negative and to smile more (but , unfortunately, she rarely succeds in doing it, especially with her FELLOW MEMEBERS who thinks she is noisy ) .
She might seems a very nice kid , right? Unfortunately , she is also very reckless and stubborn .When she set her mind about something is almost impossible to change it (and she has often a head full of ideas ).
The fact she grew up with lots of freedom , compared to her Korean peers, and her outgoing character makes her more indipendent and impulsive . Moreover, the fact she doesn't likes lying and she always try to give her honest opinion about everything makes her sounds a bit outspoken , sometimes .
Fortunately , when she realizes that her words or her behaviour might have offended or hurted someone she immediately apologizes and promise to not do it anymore. Dorothy is a responsible girl but she is also very naive, unselfish and tends to trust everyone . Both this and her recklessness may put her in trouble (FORTUNATELY THERE are hyemin and the unnies WHO always "save the situation " ).
Sometimes , anyway , she is the ones that help other people to get out of the troubles . Like wha happens to many kids and teenagers , her naivety could, indeed, turn into wisdom and her advices could be very useful for other contestants . Anyway, she doesn't likes giving advices to other people since she is a bit insecure about her skills and thinks that , since she is one of the youngest contestants of the show and only becomes a fixed trainee only in 2012 (even if she started to train since December 2009 during holidays ) , she hasn't the right to question who is older and more expert than her.

Dorothy Wu was born on November 30 , 1999 in Adelaide , the Capital City of the State of South Australia, as the second of four children of a Chinese father and an Australian-French mother. In fact, Dorothy's father , Robert Wu ( whose original chinese name is Wu Rong ) , was born in Guangzhou, the Capital of the province of Guandong ,located in southern China , but, when he was 5 years old , he moved to Adelaide with his parents due to his father's job. Dorothy's mother, Eloise Dupree, instead, was born and raised in Adelaide but her father was born in Paris,France.
Despite pursuing different degrees (in fact now his father is a computer techician while his mother his a literature teacher in Adelaide High school) Robert and Eloise , who were the same age (both were born in 1965), were able to met during their first year of College and to get married after 6 years and , then, to give birth to 4 children : Richard (born in 1995) , Dorothy (the only girl ; born in 1999 ) , Gilbert (born in 2004) and Thomas (always called Tom; born in 2005) . Compared to her brother, who are quite calm and a bit shy , Dorothy has always been a very lively, happy and outgoing child .
When she was a toddler she always smiled to everyone and , when she started to talk at 1 years old, greeted everyone . Dorothy was also a bit hyperactive when she was a kid . She was always up to something and usually made more trouble than all her brother put together . Since she was a little kid she has been always interested in many things , like daydreaming, inventing tales , discover new things, drawing, singing , dancing , riding the bike (first with wheels and then, at 6 years old, without anything) , playing many games , even if she wasn't very good in everything ( she likes drawing but , as she also knows, she draws very badly ) . She also started to read and write very early (she was like 4 years old) thanks to her older brother Richard.
Among all these things , she has always had an interested in TV . She used to watch not only lots of anime and cartoons but also movies, drama and especially music shows or similar kind of shows in which people used to dance and sing together . She has been always fashinated by those kind of shows where both the audience and especially the performers seems to having a lot of fun .
When she was 5 years old , her mother , slightly desperate because her daugheter had always too much energy and ends up to breaking precious things while playing games with her older brother and her friends , she enrolled her to a dance course in order to make her more disciplined and calm . Unfortunately , dancing managed to calm Dorothy only a bit , but let her knows new things (for example that there are not only one but several dance styles) and made her even more interested in the world of entertainment , since her dance teacher always made her students see the videos famous dancers' performance in order to learn them for the dance recitals the schoold made twice (at Christmas and between June and July) . Then , a year later, likes her older brother, she enrolled in a primary school in which , among the subjects , there was also music and children could start to learn how to play an instrument since the 3d grade ( Dorothy chose piano WHILE Richard had chosen guitar ). All the students also learned how to read the musical notes and to sing a bit. Moreover, due to her older brother's strong passion for music , Dorothy started to being interested also in listening to different music genres since she was very young . She and Richard , used to listened together lots of music , especially on youtube . Richard favourites type of music was rock while Dorothy's favourite type of music was pop and hip hop . They also watched lots of movies, cartoons , animes and animes' openings and endings together.
Due to his passion for music, Richard decided to start na youtube channel , when he was 12 years old , in 2006 . At first he started it only because many of his classmates had their youtube accounts in which they talked a bit about their hobbies and showed what they learned during music class at school but , then , he started to do cover of famous songs with not only piano but also guitar and other instruments , which he learned alone thanks to internet videos and online lessons . Sometimes he also sang and Dorothy's sang with him (especially in the cover of Disney movie's songs) . At first both of them were a bit tone deaf but then , also thanks to the advice they received by the viewers of their videos , they managed to improve little by little (even if Richard has always been better than Dorothy at singing). Later, Dorothy became a "regular guest" of most of the videos and , since she could dance unlike his brother , she also started a sort of "weekly broadcast" all for her in which she taught the choreography of famous songs.
In 2008 , she also started to showcasing her rap (even if at the beginning wasn't very good) and managed to create her famous " Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious rap" (basically a rap version of Mary Poppins' famous song) . Unfortunately , Richard's youtube channel , who is no more online ( don't worry , Richard made a new channel in 2010 but , since he is busy with University , he can't publish many videos like before) , has never been very famous even if he has always had many followers compared to his former classmates' channels. Anyway , the fact that made Dorothy interested in becoming an idol was the discovering of kpop music videos on youtube. All happened on a rainy day of January 2009, when she was still 9 years old. Also this time everything happened thanks to her older brother and his youtube channel(God Bless Richard! <3) .
In 2009 kpop was becoming more popular also outside Asia , especially in Australia and New Zealand , many viewers started to ask in the comments of Richard videos to cover several kpop songs . So , during a rainy afternoon,he decided to search the kpop songs the viewers had mentioned him on youtube . Dorothy was with him that day and they end up watching this video (A LIVE PERFORMANCE OF "hUG" BY by TVXQ ) . While Richard was a little perplexed in whatching peaple singing in an unknow language ( he didn't know that "kpop" meant "korean pop") , Dorothy immediately liked that video and sayd that he would have loved to do that job when she has grown up . She suddenly started to tormenting Richard asking him to find information about kpop search information about kpop and she found many kpop groups formed by boys and girls of almost every age . She fell in love with DBSK r and Shinee's music and started to try to find a way to become a kpop idol , with the help of her brother .
In june 2009, Dorothy found out that some agencies , YG , JYP and SM Entertainment (which was the agency of both DBSK and Shinee), was holding online audition for both Korean and Foreigner aspiring trainees and she decided to take part in it . Richard , despite being a bit concerned and worried because her sister was not even 10 years old at that time , helped her in recording a video to send to all the three Companies throught e-mail . The video , which was recorded on the beach near their house, showed Dorothy briefly introduced herself (both in English and in a very broken Korean learned throught google translator XD . ) and then doing some backflips , dancing and singing to the songs "replay" (by Shinee) and showing her " Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious rap" (in English, obviously) .
Richard , the same day, send the videos to all the three famous Korean Agencies but no one contacted them . Dorothy was a bit sad for this but then she moved on and decided to improve her skills and making more appearence in her brother youtube channel.
Anyway , everything changed in a cloudy afternoon of mid- october 2009, when Richard received a strange E-mail from "SM Entertainment" . At first , SINCE HE DIDN'T REMEBER THE NAME OF TE COMPANIES HE SENT dOROTHY'S AUDITION VIDEO, he tought it was SOME SPAM and deleted it but , then , he received another E-mail from SM Entertainment which object was "IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ. IT'S FOR DOROTHY (AUDITION) VIDEO!" . A bit worried he, FINALLY, decided to read the e-mail (WHICH wasn't written in a very good English) . Thanks to that e-mail, he found that SM Entertainment was one of the company he sent his sister'S audition video . The content of the e-mail said that they saw not only Dorothy's audition video but also many videos of his channel and , so, they wanted both of them as trainees . Finally , they stated that due to their young age (Dorothy was almost 10 years old and Richard 14 years old back then) they kindly asked to tell them how to contact their parents.Richard , after thinking a bit about the offer, briefly replied to the e-mail saying that only his sister WAS interested to became a trainee BUT they had to talk with their parents about this before accepting their offer. AFTER DOING THIS , he found out some informations about SM Entertainment and decided to show them and the e-mail to Dorothy, telling her that, if she was really interested in becoming a trainee at SM Entertainment, it wouldn't been easy to persuade their parents, especially their mother, to let her go alone in Seoul .
After thinking about it for almost three days , Dorothy told him that she wanted to go to SM Entertaiment and she was sure of her decision. She also added that she know that it wouldn't be easy to persuade their mother to let her go in a foreign Country alone but she was sure to find a way to do it, even doing all the housworks without any help. Unfortunately , nor Dorothy's willingness nor the fact she has had been always a responsible and indipendent girl despite her young age (she always tidied up not only her room but also her brothers' room, helped her mother in cooking, washing the dishes and doing other houseworks and also helped the theacher in keeping the classroom cleaN when she was at school. Moreover she did, without having any problem, many school trips and projects, one also in New Zealand, in which she was far away of her family even for one month) , her mother got very angry with both her and Richard and sayd that , instead of thinking to in Korea to become an idol , she should think about study and find a good job and both she and Richard should stop to staying on PC and study more . Dorothy , then, started to cry and got very angry , saying that both her and her brother , unlike many peple of their age, were always polite with other people, helped her with houseworkd and had good marks in all the subject . She also added that it wasn't his brother 's youtube channel's fault that she started to think about being an idol . Fortunately, her father managed to calm both her and her mother, persuading e his wife to talk with the person who sent the accpetance e-mail .
In the end after many e-mail and calls between the SM Entertainment employee who contacted them first and her mother , her parents reached an agreement : they would have sent Dorothy to Seul , to receive training for SM Entertainment, only during vaction (which in Australia are 4 times a year , one time every season) until she finished the primary school . Then , if she still liked to become an idol , she COULD move to Seoul definitely and enroll in a middle school There .
The first time Dorothy went to SM Entertainment was on December 2009 , during summer vacations ( In Australia summer starts in December), accompanied by her father and Richard (who was curious to see Seoul), and stayed herE for two weeks . She felt a bit scared , especially for the fact that she doesn't know Korean a part from some common words like "annyeong" , but then she gradually get used to that new place and , every time she come back to SM , she was more happy and less scared . At first , it wasn't easy for her getting used to training in SM Entertainment. Many trainees and employees looked at her in a strange way due to her age or her mixed ethnicity and ALSO had difficulties in communicating with her due to the language barrier . She also had lots of problems in getting used to eat Korean food. Anyway, she decided to work hard not only in learning how to become an idol (with singing, rapping, dancing , etc...) but also in learning Korean language and Korean habits ,also with the help of Richard when she came back to Adelaide for school . In this way no one would have said that she didn't worked hard because she wasn't a full time trainee like the majority of the other trainees who , unfortunately , weren't always the same she left before coming back home . In fact, a part few exceptions , many trainees (especially female trainees) usually left SM after few months . So , for a bit, every time she came back to SM for vaction she found almost all new people .
At first she didn't understand why so many people left but, when in 2012 she became a full time trainee and had to face the very difficult monthly evaluation and the hectic training of SM Entertainment she finally understand why many people had left . There were times , especially in the first half of 2013 , when her healths was very weak due to the fact she had problems in eating caused by the harsh diet every trainees had to do , in which she considered leaving SM and come back home but, then, she thought about how she would have been sad to come back home and to tell her mother that she wasn't able to pursue her dream . Probably , if she had left, she would have regretted it forever .She decided to stay and, unlike many other trainees, she started to annoy talk to the trainers, the employees and even some older trainees when she had a problem . Despite many trainers were a bit strict , there were lots of kind people in SM Entertainment building . Some of the employe also helped her in overcoming her eating problems.
Anyway, despite health problems and language barriers she managed to make some "friends" (anyway , Dorothy's concept of friendship is very wide so she considers every people she talks with at least twice a week as a "friend") during her training years . The majority of her friends were the older trainees she always met every time she came back to SM during her "part-time" training . Kris, Suho, Miseok , Chanyeol , Sehun , Jongin,Kyungsoo, Luhan,Tao, Yixing, Johnny and Ina (the only girl who didn't left between 2010 and 2014) were older than her and were usually busy their issues (training was hard for everyone, even for the future exo members) but they used to take care of her like older siblings and teach her lots of things , especially Suho (who was like the "mother of everyone") and Ina (who become like the older sister she never had) . It was thanks to them that she overcome the homesickness. The when she become a full time trainee she met all the other members of "The velvet" , including her two of her best friends , Velia Song, who she has always felt similar to her, because she is half-italian, and Min Yemin , a fellow australian 1999 liner who shares her passion for music ( they didn't like each other at first but , then , they became good friends). She also met Jongdae and Baekhyun , who had joined SM in 2011, and many NCt members (but this isn't important ) .

Trainee life Trainee life wasn't very easy for her . DOrothy , at first, in late 2009, started to train only during holidays and became a fixed trainee only in 2012. Anyway , since the first moment shE ARRIVED IN kOREA, SHE HAD A "cultural shock" . Korean society seemed very different from Australian one and this made the little dorothy strained . In fact, SHe had many problems not with the training itself but with becoming accustomed to Korean culture, Korean language and Korean food . She suffered a quite severe heating disorder due to both the fact that her stomach wasn't accustomed to Korean food and the fact that the DIET SM usually makes every trainee to follow was so strict that her period blocked for almost 6 months and she had to take many pills in order to regularize it . Fortunately, Dorothy managed to overcome everything because Many people (from her fellow trainees to the employee o SM) helped her a lot whenever she had a problem and forgave her when she forgot to speak formally with her eleders . Now, fortunately , she get used to both eating Korean food and speak formally to her eleders (even if , when she is nervous, she still forgot to call her elders "unnie" or "oppa") .
