music taste ??? what influences it ????

This is super random, but I was just thinking about how everyone has different music tastes and I thought: What influences your music taste?? How do you define it??

A friend of mine (let's call her friend A) told me that all of EXO's songs , and 'Peter Pan' was the only song that actually sounded good. My other friend (friend B) said that 'Monster' is EXO's best song. She also said that 'Wolf' is horrible, but ANOTHER friend of mine (friend C) said that 'Wolf' is one of her favourite songs by EXO. So I was thinking, it's the exact same song, but why are my friends' opinions on it so different?

A classmate once said that she'd never ever listen to kpop, because it's "cringey" (no hate tho). She listens to pop and alternative music, and jams to P!atd's 'Hallelujah' at least twice a day. Another classmate would rather listen to Frank Ocean's album forever than listen to kpop.

What exactly affects/determines people's music taste?????

Hm...maybe our experiences? Music can make us feel so nostalgic and bring us back to a time in our lives when things happened--whether good or bad...And maybe our dreams too? Like what we want to be/wanted to be.

Or maybe it just ties in with other media; like movies that showed the songs/commercials that played the songs/TV shows/radio stations we accidentally stumbled upon/friend recommendations/family or music from our cultures/ trying to fit in with a crowd etc.

For me it depends on the situation and mood. But I usually like to listen to sad ballads . I also like to read and pay more attention to the lyrics.. So the lyrics have to be deep and meaningful . I think a person's personality also kinda influence the type of music that they listen too .
