Remembrance

Miyoung met Donghae on a late night in the practice rooms.

“I’m sorry, sunbae.” she bowed politely and attempted to excuse herself from him.

“Ah, you don’t need to call me that.” he said in a friendly tone. “Everyone calls me Donghae.”

“It’s nice to meet you then, Donghae-sshi.” an eye-smile appeared.

“What do people call you?”

“Me? Miyoung...Hwang Miyoung.”

Miyoung became close friends with Donghae after that incident.

“What’s your favorite color?”

“Pink.”

“Favorite flower?”

“Rose, but Donghae, why are you--”

“Favorite artist?”

“DBSK; why are you asking--”

“Not Super Junior?” he pouted.

“You guys have just debuted!” Miyoung laughed. “Why are you asking me all these questions?”

“Well, if we’re gonna be best friends, I should know everything about you, right?”

She smiled.

Miyoung discovered that Sooyeon had a crush on Donghae.

“He’s just so,” Sooyeon sighed dreamily, “Perfect.”

“Yeah,” Miyoung agreed quietly.

“He’s so sweet and polite and funny and cute and I can’t stop thinking about him, so I think I like him?”

“Yeah.”

“Stephanie,” Sooyeon always called her by her American name. “Can you help me?”

“Of course I will.” Miyoung leaned forward so she could tuck her knees to her chest. “What do you need me to do?”

“Can you try and talk to him for me?”

“Sure, that’s what friends do.”

Miyoung was the one who got Donghae and Sooyeon together.

“Aw, aren’t they adorable together?” Yoona smiled, watching Donghae and Sooyeon share ice cream alone in a practice room.

“Stop spying on them, Yoona.” Miyoung scolded in a hushed whisper.

“They’re just such a cute couple.” Yoona frowned. “I wish I had a boyfriend like that.”

“Don’t we all wish that?” Miyoung murmured loud enough for her own self to hear it.

Miyoung grew apart from her best friend.

“The Super Junior sunbaes came to cheer us on for our first real performance!” Sooyoung beamed at Miyoung.

“Oh yeah, I know.” Miyoung nodded and pretended to be fixing her hair.

“Don’t you wanna say hi to them?”

“I will, I just need to use the bathroom.”

“Oh, okay.”

She ran to the bathroom, locked herself in a stall, and cried.

Miyoung grew close with her best friend again, thanks to a music video.

“Tiffany-sshi, I’m giving you the sole part of being a couple with the male actor.” the director said to her.

“M-Me?”

“Yes, I think you’ll do great!”

“Who’s the male actor?” Miyoung asked, tilting her head a degree.

“Hi, Miyoung.”

And there was only one person who ever continued calling her that after debut.

“Hi, Donghae.”

And somehow, she was back in his arms.

Miyoung met a guy named Choi Siwon.

“Oh, I’m so sorry!” Miyoung covered with both of her hands.

“Don’t worry about it,” a deep voice assured the girl.

Miyoung stooped down to help him pick up the dirty food that fell out of the containers. “I’m really sorry.”

“Like I said, it’s fine.” the man smiled handsomely.

Miyoung bowed her head in embarrassment and silently continued helping him.

Then he spoke up. “Aren’t you Tiffany-sshi? From So Nyuh Shi Dae?”

She nodded shyly. “I think you’re Siwon-sshi from Super Junior, right?”

“Weird how we’ve never talked,” Siwon chuckled.

“I guess so.”

“See you around sometime, Tiffany-sshi?” he stuck out a hand.

She shook it firmly and smiled. “Sounds good.”

Miyoung’s memory of Donghae was a faint one.

Backstage, Miyoung ran to Siwon and gave him a long hug.

“Good job out there!” he praised, her hair.

“I’m starved,” Miyoung held her stomach and smiled.

“Let’s eat then.” he pulled out a chair, pushed her gently into the seat, and brought some rice and side dishes.

“When are you guys going up again?” Miyoung asked.

“After SHINee,” Siwon sat across from Miyoung. “How do you like Los Angeles?”

“I love it; I feel so close to home.” Miyoung rested her chin in her palm and sighed.

“It’s beautiful here, Miyoung.”

She froze, and he noticed this. “Oh, I’m sorry, that just slipped out.”

“No, it’s fine, oppa.” Miyoung’s eyes turned up into pretty crescents.

Something felt wrong.

But Donghae remembered Miyoung.

“Do you think it’s weird that she hasn’t answered any of my texts or calls in the past three years?” Donghae frowned, staring up at the ceiling.

“I dunno, can you get off my bed?” Hyukjae tugged on Donghae’s arm.

“Seriously, though...”

“Donghae, maybe she’s moved on.” Hyukjae shrugged. “I don’t know that much about girls, but if she hasn’t communicated personally with you for years, I think she doesn’t care anymore.”

“Why?” he muttered.

Hyukjae grimaced, feeling sympathetic for his friend. “She has Siwon now, doesn’t she?”

“I guess she does.”

“And you have Jessica still,” Hyukjae tried to cheer Donghae up with a grin.

“Can I sleep in your room tonight?” he rolled over, ignoring what Hyukjae had said.

“Sure, whatever makes you feel better.”

At 3AM, Hyukjae woke up, as Mother Nature was calling, and he heard Donghae say something as he walked out.

“Miyoung...”

“I’m sorry,” Hyukjae mumbled.

The minute I saw that edit while randomly browsing Tumblr, I knew I had to write something.

So this was the result of maybe twenty minutes?

Does this count as angst?

I think it does, a bit.
