"mom, what if i went to misul?" the reason ran is so inhibited is because upon proposing that idea to her mom, she realized how practical the lady was. ran had grown up watching dramas with her sister, surrounded by movies and books where the heroine decides to to follow her hert - she decides that everything will be okay as long as she gets to fulfill her dreams. ran just believed that that was how it was, but through the slow and minimal hints she sent to her mom about how passionate she was about music and the responses she got that were grounded in rejection, she started to surrender to her mothers way of thinking. being a singer isn't going to get you anywhere, you need to finish high school, go to college, make money in the future, etc. ran had dreamed so big throughout middle school back in busan - she was such a free spirit. but now in dugong in wonyeon, she's starting to submit to her mother's control, to conform to the idea of a mundane life, to realize that she needs to pull herself together and stop dreaming
 
and what does a mundane life mean? well, ran lives with her mom and sister, her dad having left them when she was a young child. no pet, sadly, since her sister is mildly allergic to animal fur. every day, she wakes up about an hour before she goes to school so she can get ready - maybe a quick shower, an efficient skin routine, light makeup. then she throws on her uniform and is out of there. school is same old, same old. laugh and joke around with minjung and sora, pay some half-hearted attention in class, stay on the lookout for good-looking guys, even though that hunt is becoming fruitless. school ends, the three musketeers all walk together for as far as they can until they have to go their separate ways, usually stopping by the convenience store for a snack, and ran is usually the second one to leave the group - sora going to hakwon and minjung dropping ran off before heading to his dad's bbq restaurant. ran heads inside her empty home, both mother and sister being away at work until around dinnertime. she does her homework for about 2 hours until she has to go to her own job, which she leaves for with a light heart, excited to see the animals and people she enjoys being around. cm is usually the highlight of her day - she's always smiling and feeling good, until the end of the day where closing shop drains the last of her energy and she dreads having to go finish up the last of her homework. but finish she does, and with another skin care routine and a brush of the teeth, she's in bed.

❀ ran's eyes light up in understanding and she nods. oh, okay! sounds great! she beams at hyunwoo, trying to calm her heart as she attempts her very first job interview.
 
well, first off, it's nice to meet you! let me ask, why do you want this job? he leans a bit closer, big eyes blinking, his head resting on his fist.
❀ oh, it's nice to meet you, too! she chuckles, then thinks. well...this is my first job, and i'd like if it was a special, meaningful one, you know? and cafe marguerite seemed like the perfect place for that - i mean, the atmosphere is so comfortable and homey and everyone is always so happy...it's almost magical! she looks around the room as she describes the cafe admiringly - her tone is one of excitement and stomach butterflies, but at the word 'magical', hyunwoo flinches. ran mistakes it for him being offed by her (was it??) lenghthy answer, so she immediately attempts to appease. sorry, that was kind of a long ramble...she chuckles lightly to lift up the mood.
 
oh, no, no you're fine! i just...i just spaced out for a bit there. he chuckles. alright, next question - how is your work ethic? (brush it off, hyunwoo, that wasn't too obvious!)
❀ and it was at this moment that moon realized she never understood the definition of work ethic ran blinked, suddenly caught off guard by the question. well...she spoke slowly. i'm a pretty hard worker - i used to live in the countryside when i was younger, which meant dealing with lots of planting and harvesting, that kind of stuff...so i kind of learned not to complain about dirty work since a young age and, well, i'm fine with doing anything i'm asked! and i'll always give it my best! she smiles cheekily at hyunwoo, trying her best to look convincing, and not like she's unsure of if she even answered the question right.
 
okay, and why should we hire you? (besides the fact that you'll attract more customers because wow, you really do look like kim soeun.)
❀ ran attempts to gather herself again - to focus and remember what her sister went over with her the night before. well, looking on the bright side of the fact that it's my first job means i'll be more attentive  and cooperative, more open to anything you guys want me to do...she moves her hands around in circles as she speaks. and i'm kind of really passionate about this place, because i...she clasps her hands together like she's wishing on a star. would love...to be part of your guys's family that makes so many people happy...so...yeah. she smiles firmly at hyunwoo who nods and writes stuff on his notepad.

❀ uhm...ran pretends to think and buy time as she internally ponders whether this is a trick question. is this to really get to know me or am i supposed to say i'm hardworking ?? i'd say...she thinks a bit more and hyunwoo chuckles. don't worry about being modest! this is the time to be as prideful as you can! ran chuckles, relaxing thanks to hyunwoo's effort in calming her down. trustworthy? hyunwoo nods understandingly. a lot of my friends say they always feel safe to tell me anything and that my image is just that of a very...trustworthy, nice girl. she lightly shrugs, showing that she doesn't agree, but hyunwoo nods with a smile. well, i agree! he says, making ran laugh and open her eyes wide, pleasantly surprised as she covers .
 
hyunwoo chuckles to himself. (she looks older than me, so it's probably wrong to think that she's cute.) okay, next question - are you comfortable with animals?
❀ ran's eyes light up, both pleased and surprised at the question. yeah, i love animals! i'd definitely have my own pet if it wasn't for my sister's allergy...and, i mean, my mom's scared of dogs, too, but she just won't admit it. she lightly rolls her eyes.
 
well, then you'll love cafe marguerite - we basically have two house pets (wow hyunwoo what are you going to do if she gets her hopes up good going)! anyways, already the last question - do you believe in magic? hyunwoo becomes serious all ofa sudden, half joking and half anticipating her answer.
❀ ran slightly furrows her eyebrows, not having expected this question at all, but then she figures that he just randomly asked it since she said the cafe was magical to her. well, i mean, i believe in the magic that this cafe has to attract and please all these customers! she laughs lightly, also having been put off a bit by hyunwoo's sudden change in attitude. thankfully, he stops being pretend serious and laughs with her at the cheesiness. ran decides to keep it to herself that she loves the fantasy genre and magic is something she loves thinking about.

❀ they meet at the cafe, obviously, and i feel like in order to get to the whole like/love relationship thing, the guy would have to be quite ambitious. ran, wile she's pleasant to talk to, isn't very good at initiating friendships, even if she wants to, so she likes people even morewhen they put in the effort to get to know her, to start conversations with her, to include her in activities, etc. i can see the other side being like this maybe as just a means to actually just be her friend, get ran to open up and be herself, but then gradually falling for her. and if the guy is good looking and charming, ran honestly might have been hooked herself since the beginning - since, hey, she always was a dreamer.
