PERSONALITY a tad bit socially awkward, but it's just in her mind / actually very well-liked, super sweet, fun to have around, good at making conversation / ambivert - loves meeting new people but also thinks that she's ok with only having one super good friend for the rest of her life / laughs a lot, especially when she's shy or awkward / really insecure...questions her own lines between modesty and a lack of confidence, and then confidence and self-absorption / ambitious, but keeps quiet about it / commonly misunderstood as ditzy and dumb / she's actually very emotionally intelligent - is quick to catch on to general vibes of people and can read rooms really well and notice little tells about other people's emotions / great listener / soft but strongly opinionated, will share her perspective and then laugh and say "but that's just me!" / good at being discreet in social situations (i.e. if someone looks uncomfortable about a topic but no one else is picking that up, she'll casually guide the conversation away from that subject) / her own greatest enemy...can be pretty hard on herself or just very underestimating. not so much that it plagues her life, but when it comes up, she doesn't give herself much credit

 

LIFESTYLE growing up, mango had always been a vocal child. she was a happy baby, always smiling widely and babbling noises. so it was no surprise that she grew up to love music. from enthusiastically clapping along to nursery songs to making random songs in her car seat, mango's affinity for music was early established. no one really knows where her vocal talent came from, much less that she has it. once she got older, mango started singing less in public (made insecure by the fact that she wants to be good but doesn't think she is), and she definitely doesn't go around flaunting it, especially since she never really got training or anything of the sort - she just enjoys it! but deep down, she's always wanted to be able to sing in front of a crowd...not even a huge one, the size doesn't matter, she just wants to feel free enough and not scared of doing something she likes.

 

going to uch had always been something of a fantasy of mango's - not exactly in the sense that it was her dream school, but something about living in los angeles was so romantic to her. the bustle of the city, the promise of nightlife, the endless opportunities. long beach had always been fun and was definitely her vibes, but mango always felt like she could be an la girl too! so naturally, she was ecstatic when she received the news of her acceptance into uch.

 

and she is truly living it up here! staying away from 8ams, going to parties, trying out local eats with new friends. college life is just as fun as she had been expecting it to be, but of course, just as much work as well. mango will wake up about an hour before her first class of the day and usually goes without breakfast, otherwise she'll grab a quick container of yogurt or a granola bar. her classes are pretty well-bunched into one time frame, so after the chunk of lectures she's free for the rest of the day. when she's not working, mango spends her free time studying at the library, watching tv shows, reading as she sunbathes on the campus lawn, and learning how to paint. she likes being outside, rather than cooped up in her room, and mostly hangs out with her roommates, preferring to stay close to them when they all go to events together, but she's always willing to go try new things by herself and meet new people! though she'd prefer a familiar face.

 she works as a barista at sweet life, a cafe 15 minutes away from school that serves boba, tea, and other drinks, along with a small selection of pastries and baked goods.

the four girls were all hallmates their first years - maggie and emma roomed with each other, and then althea was mango's roommate, and after getting along swimmingly at residence hall events, the 4 of them decided to join forces and rent an apartment all together. they all mesh really well together and are probably each other's best friends here at college, but are all outgoing enough to have plenty for their own agendas. their personalities are all similar enough that people joke that they're a hive mind (since they get along so well), but there are still ways to identify each girl - maggie is the wildest (highest alc tolerance, parties the most. looks like they could kill you, is a cinnamon roll), emma is the most studious (work hard play hard, that annoying classmate who sets the curve without even trying. looks like they could kill you, will kill you), althea is the mom friend (cooks the most, drinks the least. looks like a cinnamon roll, will kill you), and mango is the neutral good (designated driver, 2 nice that boyz will misunderstand. looks like a cinnamon roll, is a cinnamon roll).

 

  poppy kang / friend crush  mango has never met poppy before the interview, but that short half hour was all she needed to want to be her friend. her orange hair, perky smile, and excitable personality reminded her of a corgi, and she was sold. if mango joins the band, she'll probably gravitate towards poppy the most, and not just because she only knows her. mango will validate poppy's desires to want to make friends with the band and will always be one of the first to pipe up that she's down to hang out after. if someone lashes out at poppy, mango will silently protect, establishing her position through her expressions, unless things get out of hand and she needs to intervene with words. mango would love to have poppy open up to her and will feel comfortable enough to share in return and establish that mutual trust. if poppy is a corgi, mango is a golden retriever, standing loyal by her side and softly looking after her.

hi poppy!! i remember, i'm mango! uhh...to answer your question, i guess it just sounded cool? i've been wanting to make some new friends, and, i mean...i like music...so i thought it could maybe be nice? she shrugs, laughing.

yeah, well...so i actually don't know how to play any instruments...she admits a little sheepishly, chuckling. i took, like, one year of piano lessons when i was 8, and then i don't remember why i quit, but i've...forgotten pretty much everything. she barks out a laugh again, realizing she's not helping her case, and shifts gears. but, uh, i like to sing! i've always liked singing, so...i think that would be my main contribution. she smiles a closed-mouth smile, slightly regretting this answer.

ummm i hadn't thought about it...and i don't have much experience with any of that...but i'd be down to try! she thinks briefly about the various short phrases she's thought of in passing, the three line poems she jots down in her notebooks, but then stops thinking about them.

mango visibly lights up, especially as she senses the way poppy sort of closes in. she was already excited at the thought of hanging out with new friends, but seeing how poppy seems a little shy pushes her to be even more excited. oh, yeah, of course! that sounds like a lot of fun! i feel like that should be a given, no? we've gotta have our pre-practice meals and post-concert parties, right? she laughs, keeping her tone casual so poppy won't second guess herself.

oh, already?? 's a pretty short interview..! mango is upset that she can't talk to poppy any longer - she seems really sweet! umm i mean, yeah! totally! i don't think i would even have much of a say in any of that since i don't know much about...i don't know, like, the characteristics of genres? but i'd definitely be down to try new things! for some reason, mango doesn't understand or fathom that her applying for the vocal position means she'll be a frontman...her lack of experience makes her automatically feel like an inferior member, but she's a lot more talented than she thinks.
